Before we even arrived I needed some help with directions and asked one of the store clerks for some help. Upon mentioning my destination, her eyes lit up and with a big smile expressed what a great choice it was and we will love it. So, this already had me excited to go. The street level we walked into hosts the market with various and even some unusual fresh produce. There was dragon fruit, smoked garlic cloves, the worlds tiniest cherry tomatoes which were the size of peas, pine berries, sharon (kaki) fruit, duck eggs sold right along side the free-range chicken eggs..I could go on it was so cool! There was also a vast selection of international spices and goods. They had meats, cheeses and seafood. There is seating as well if you wanted to eat something from the deli counter. We went downstairs to the wine cellar because dinner upstairs was not being served until 6pm. The walls downstairs are lined with shelves encompassing wines from all over the world. I also spotted what appeared to be a huge book of wines to go through as well. Very pretty downstairs, there were tables set above barrels with stools and they also had large tables with chairs. We had a meat and cheese platter with some wine, everything was fantastic and the service was good too. From the amazing wine selection in the cellar to the magnificent market on street level this place should not be missed. read more

I'm a huge fan of the shop and the wine cellar, but recently went for lunch upstairs in the restaurant and was really impressed. The room is beautiful, like a wonderfully light filled French brasserie, and the prices are great these days. The staff were fantastic. I went with a coeliac, and they dealt fantastically with it. They outlined what on the menu could be eaten, and what they could adapt and how. They also immediately provided gluten free bread. We had some tasty salads, and very reasonably priced kirs. The staff continued to be helpful and attentive throughout. I'd definitely go back. It's a great place for an elegant grown-up type lunch for cheap. read more

The wine bar downstairs is one of my favourite nighttime spots for catching up with a friend. There's an extensive wine list, with varying price points. The staff are well turned out and attentive, even though this place gets very busy from Thursday to Saturday night. All the wee nibbles on the menu are delicious - the potato wedges with basil aioli are substantial and hard for me to resist if I'm enjoying a couple of glasses of wines. I associate many good memories with this place - celebrating a new job, getting over an old love, catching up with old and new friends! Its a treat I'd never deny myself, though its probably becoming more of a habit than a treat! read more

Food inspo heaven! You can get all sorts here. Fancy recipe with some unpronouncable ingredients? You can probably get them here. The employees really know their stuff and aren't afraid to give you a few tips. Seating area at the Cafe is tiny as is space between aisles so sometimes hard to bend down to see bottom-shelf goods without having to move for people every few seconds. Really wanted a sandwich after fondue and got a humdinger which was FANTASTIC--but took a really long time for them to heat it up. They said it would be 5 minutes to heat up the soup (deal for soup and sandwich that I wanted) but didn't say it was also 5 minutes to put the sandwich in the one of four panini presses...anyway, first time I ate in here so I thought I'd update! read more

Michelin recommended, the restaurant is on the 1st floor, above the grocery store. Their lunch course menu is very well priced and the portions were rather large. 3 courses for 25€, I almost didn't get the dessert, but it was definitely worth stuffing yourself for. Fallon and Byrne is very much like a smaller version of Dean & DeLuca with a restaurant on the first floor (Europe) and a banquet room (called a function room here) on the second floor. It's on Exchequer street which is jam-packed with bars and restaurants and as a result there is a very lively feel to the area. My guess is that it's the foodie heaven in town or at the very least one of them. The restaurant has a definite Soho or French bistro vibe; authentic aged wooden floor, high molded ceilings, columns, old distressed large framed mirrors and a large bar that would fit right in a Paris restaurant. The service is attentive and efficient with the time immemorial uniform of black pants, crisp white shirt and a white apron (you get the idea). Now that the stage is set, per se, it's time for the food. Right off the bat we were served a wonderful tomato and fennel bread that was marvelous. I followed that up with a Foie Gras, with small slices of brioche toast accompanied by a peach rhubarb relish and pistachios, and with a and baby green salad it was more than marvelous; it was heavenly! Alicia had an equally delicious starter, a Roasted peach salad with fresh goat's curd & serrano ham that came accompanied with with wild rocket (arugula to us Americans), aged balsamic, pumpkin seeds and soda bread crisp. Here is where this review gets a little off-beat. I opted for their Cheddar and Bacon burger which is something I rarely do in Europe. Why you ask? Well, when in Europe I maintain a strict "When in Rome" policy, usually trying all sorts of local dishes and I NEVER order a hamburger. Ok I lied, I had one once this June for lunch in Spain but that was on the Camino de Santiago and I had just hiked 15 kilometers and needed a hardy lunch!! Well I shouldn't have ordered this one. It was ok but not memorable, next time I'll have the Yellowfin tuna I almost ordered. But no harm, no foul because Alicia had a delicious Pan-roasted cod with charred Chinese cabbage, red dillisk mash, miso carrots and enoki mushrooms. The excellent wine list, with superb wines by the glass, the starters and the fine service make Fallon & Byrne a place to return to. read more

Fallon & Byrne is pretty unique in Dublin I think. I've never shopped there (even though everything looks fabulous) but I've eaten and drank in it a number of times. I had dinner in the restaurant upstairs one night a while back and it was all I expected and more. I also had lunch there another time and I was very impressed with the Caesar salad. I'm a big Caesar fanatic and it's amazing how many restaurants just get it wrong. I've also had vino and antipasti downstairs, which is a great spot to while away a Saturday afternoon. They serve massive glasses too - not that I'm complaining! - and you get to enjoy the view of the shelves that are lined with a massive selection of more than 600 bottles of wine. There's a great buzz down there too - a mixture of all sorts of people eating, drinking, browsing and shopping. read more

Initially, I thought this was a large supermarket, but on closer inspection is was a "super deli" with things of surprising origin and content! Specialist products from all corners of the world and from the locale. An incredible selection of mushrooms, wonderful cheeses and amazing fish! Upstairs is a classy restaurant, which I couldn't wait to try! I had Wild barramundi ravioli, bok choi, tomato & ginger broth (€12.50) to start followed by Confit pork belly & langoustines, roast baby potatoes & salsify, lemon & rocket dressing (€26.00) both were delicious! I'm a major fan of Fallon and Byrne and have been for years...memories going back to the €1 corkage Monday days. Great food hall that always has something different to offer or has that mad ingredient you need for a recipe. Good soup and sambo deal on a lot of the time, but queue and collect system can be confusing when it's busy. Grub off deli counter is perfect for a supper or cheap dinner. And the coffee is exceptional and consistent. All the baristas actually care about the coffee. Fab place. Hope it survives it's financial difficulties. read more

The food is delicious and the wine assortment on the menu was fabulous! The wait staff will assist for the perfect pairing. I had the Thai chicken salad paired with the Verdicchio...delightful! The menu offers a choice of traditional rustic dishes or light bites. Brunch is available on Sundays from 11-3. The main floor is a "food hall" with delicacies from around the world; a Deli and coffee counter; Irish and European cheeses, fish, and meats; and beautiful fresh produce. "The Restaurant" on the first floor features local and seasonal slow food with seasonal cocktails and a pre-theater menu. Lunch is from 12-3 Monday-Saturday and 12-4 on Sunday. The top floor is a special event area. A large wine-tasting was taking place while I was there shopping. The wine cellar, which is downstairs, is a nice place to venture for lunch. The deli part is very nice to browse and if I lived here, I would certainly splurge and buy some of my groceries amid all the packed isles of local and fresh food. I ordered the Asian salad, which was 12.50 euros. It was very tasty, but not huge. I think Dublin in general is a bit pricier than what I am used to when eating out, but it was a nice treat and I imagine would be even better with wine and a book! read more

Such expensive and impressive produce. We grabbed lunch pastries and coffee there. It is not elegant dining but it is real good fresh food. The bakeshop is particularly impressive. This place is the best grocery store in all of Europe! On my trip to Dublin, I bought a crapload of food here to take back home to Germany. They have everything that an American expat needs, and fulfilled my cravings of somethings I can't get in Germany. They have TimTams too! Which is perfect for Australians. They also have a wonderful deli in the back, and have a great selection of sandwiches and other foods you can have for a nice lunch. Best place ever! I'm considering going back to Dublin in a few months just so I can go back here and buy more food! read more

Even if you cannot afford to buy anything practical here, it's a great place to browse. There is a fantastic selection of confectionary and speciality chocolate to ooh and aah over. The deli is also fantastic. It's often crowded, but they have a nice grab-and-go section if you don't have time to wait in line. Great meal with visiting friends from the US. I had ribeye steak, most of the rest of our part had sea bass. All dishes were excellent. Service was top notch. A delight for the senses. This place is a lovely well- stocked deli style shop upstairs and a fabulous wine bar/restaurant downstairs. Ooh this place really excites me! When I go in and see all of the gourmet deli foods my mouth waters! I havnt been to eat in there, but I have gotten groceries and some of the homemade raviloi, cheeses and sauces and they have always been fantastic! The meatballs are amazing too! Whenever I want to treat my boyfriend, or really myself, I load myself with all of their posh foods (which I can never pronounce but can definetly eat!) and cook up a storm at home.
