Service is great, very attentive and friendly. The food is what earns this three stars. I tried a stuffie, German onion soup, a Farmhouse burger, and a key lime Mason jar. The stuffie was a little small, and most of the flavor was imparted by the ham and the squeeze of lemon. The German onion soup, I'm not sure why it was German except to not be French? Outside the name difference, the onions were way too large, and there was a total lack of flavor going on in the soup. The crock was very large too. The burger and fries looked pretty good, and I enjoyed the flavors here. The fries were rough hewn, so there was good crispness from all the edges. The toppings of the burger, and the bun, were also hearty. Unfortunately, my medium rare burger was more like raw meat with surface browning. I'm a big fan of rare steak, but ground beef needs a little more cooking. Also, the house made ketchup is really more of a marinara sauce. If I'd ended up eating more of my plate before they took it away to re-fire the burger, I would have asked to replace the ketchup. The key lime Mason jar was e everything you want to wrap up a meal. Great flavor, lightness, citrus. I did have to bring most of it home but, unlike the burger they brought back in a box, I'm excited to get back into the key lime. From an accessibility stand point, there is no ramp to get in nor handicap parking, so the evidently don't want your business. Once you're in, there are some seats you could get in, but if this place were full it would be difficult to navigate for anyone. The bathroom is a single room, but very spacious and nice. So, mixed bag for access. Your mileage may vary, but I'm not racing to return.

We started with the Arancini and Cozze Marinara. The arancini were perfectly crisp with creamy risotto inside, and the marinara sauce was excellent. The mussels were fresh, plentiful, and served in a flavorful tomato garlic broth that was hard to stop dipping bread into. For entrees, we ordered the Bucatini Carbonara, Spaghetti Alla Vongole, and the Spaghetti Genovese with grilled chicken. Every pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, but the Carbonara was easily my favorite. Rich, creamy, and packed with flavor without feeling too heavy. The Vongole was fresh and simple, letting the clams shine, while the Genovese had a nice herbaceous pesto that paired well with the grilled chicken. Dessert was just as impressive. The crème brûlée had a perfectly caramelized top, and the Strawberries alla Romana was surprisingly one of my favorite desserts of the night. Fresh strawberries topped with an enormous serving of house-made whipped cream made for a light finish after all the pasta. Service was friendly throughout the meal and our server checked in regularly, although there were a few stretches where we waited a little longer than expected for drinks and dessert. Nothing that took away from the experience, but enough to keep it from being a perfect service score. The dining room has a classic old-school Italian feel that's comfortable and welcoming. It's not flashy, but that's part of the charm. You can tell this is a place people come back to for birthdays, anniversaries, and family dinners. Overall, I'd rate the food 5/5, service 4/5, and atmosphere 4/5. If you're looking for authentic Italian food in Rhode Island, Trattoria Romana is definitely worth the trip. I'll gladly make the drive back.

Entire staff were all well dressed. Bread was fantastic as were our two entrees. Plenty of parking near the entrance. Right amount of lemon and capers. Pasta was excellent as well. Just a great dining experience.

The two met when they both worked at a brewery in Honolulu. Once returning to Rhode Island, the couple decided to open their own gastropub in Stephanie's hometown of Westerly. Dubbed "The Malted Barley", the business focused on craft beer paired with gourmet pretzel sandwiches. The pretzel dough is made fresh daily, and every pretzel is rolled and stuffed by hand. After much success, the Bennetts looked to franchise their business model. After signing a licensing agreement with investor Ron Koller, a second Malted Barley opened in Providence in March 2016. In March 2023, the Bennetts closed the original Malted Barley in Westerly so that they could focus on their flower farm, Echo Rock Flowers, as well as their family. The Malted Barley in Providence continues to run under the ownership of Ron Koller. I visited the original Westerly location of the Malted Barley in 2014 while I was on a craft beer bus tour. I was so impressed with their excellent craft beer selection and delicious gourmet pretzels that I decided to make the gastropub a stop on my craft beer bachelor party bus tour three years later. I was very sad when I heard that the original location closed down, but I took comfort in knowing that a second location still existed in Providence. I recently visited the Providence location for lunch while I was passing through the area. When I walked in, I immediately smelled the freshly baked pretzels. For food, I ordered the "Barley Bacon Beast Burger" (75 % beef 25 % bacon patty, pepperjack cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, more bacon w/ a side of ketchup) on an Everything Pretzel. It really hit the spot. I must add that these pretzels are essentially a hybrid between traditional Bavarian pretzels and New York-style bagels: salty and crunchy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. While looking over the beer menu, I was surprised to see that the Malted Barley now brews their own house beer in addition to guest taps. I ordered a taster flight that featured Malted Barley's "Banana Bread" (Traditional Ale) and "Monster Juice" (Hazy IPA), as well as Long Live Beerworks' "Invisible IPA" (hazy IPA) and Phantom Farms Brewing's "Coarse Woody Debris" (Saison). All of the beers were very refreshing and paired nicely with my pretzel sandwich. I still miss the original Westerly location, but it's nice to know that you can still find delicious pretzels sandwiches paired with craft beer just a little further away.

The interior is from the 1950s. Small, cramped booths, servers that look like they have been there forever, and a great casual family atmosphere, energy. I had a salad with creamy Italian ( delicious), a great big piece of chicken parm (delicious!) that came with a side of spaghetti. Oh yeah. They also serve you with your meal, Scali bread and butter. The food was served hot! I loved it! It seems like most places serve you warm food these days. The food was all delicious, friendly service and a really nice time. I tried to get a few slices to go, but they only serve their famous pizza as whole pies. The pizza is the star of the show here, but I would say everything was the star. Great food, reasonable prices and a great atmosphere! I'll definitely have to go back there for their pizza. Beware if you are a little bit uh, big or Alan Thicke as the booths are very tight, a bit small and a bit cramped for my liking. It may be because I'm a little bit big( 6'2" 240 lbs.). I get it. Places generally weren't made to accommodate people my size. If you have never been here...why not?! Total Class place.

The place looks like a diner from the 1940s and probably hasn't been renovated or updated significantly since it opened in 1937. It's well-worn but the dining room was clean and comfortable. Since they are famous for their pizza, we ordered a cheese pizza with mushrooms which proved to be tasty. We also got the chicken and eggplant parmesan which was good but not particularly special; above average diner food. Service was excellent from 2 staff that probably have worked at the place for decades. Portions are generous and prices competitive. We'll definitely return!
