Family Corner in Astoria is literally old reliable. George and the staff are incredible and always make you feel welcome the second you walk in. The food is fantastic, classic, and exactly what you want from a neighborhood greasy spoon. Grilled cheese, soup, breakfast... everything I've had here has been consistently great. We unfortunately live in a world where old-school luncheonettes are slowly disappearing, but Family Corner is still carrying the torch. Places like this are getting harder and harder to find, and Astoria is lucky to have one that still does it right. I usually order the seven island omelette (which has feta, spinach, tomatoes, and mushroom) or the small Greek salad with grilled chicken. This time around, I chose the salad. For a small salad, it is very filling. Every component of this salad contributes to its big flavor: feta, tomatoes, onions, finely shredded lettuce, kalamata olives, peperoncini, cucumbers, stuffed grape leaves, well-seasoned grilled chicken, and the dressing that I just want to straight up drink. The salad comes with soft, fluffy, grilled pita bread on the side. My SO always gets eggs over medium, sausage, french fries (instead of home fries), and toast. DISRESPECTFUL NASTY HOSTESS/ OWNER! STEER FROM ORDERING! A restaurant that can't follow the costumer is always right we'll be shutting down sooner or later. I order for delivery, 2 coffees, a side of bacon and 3 toasts. The first time I called I forgot to add the toast in the order so I called again. He told me the first time I called, the order is $10.16, no problem. I called the second time and he DID NOT in form me on the price change. I get the order delivered to me to it being $16 because of 3 toast. $6 for 3 toast? I didnt have the cash so I called back to put it on card but asked why is it $16. He responded back with disrespect " oh you thoguht it was going to be free" no I knew it was going to be a charge but not $16 because of 3 toast. I said " no I get that but you could have informed me" and he said "no you thought it was going to be free? Get out of here" Then HANGS UP THE PHONE ON ME. I was kindly talking to him, called back to put it on card. Then I had my boyfriend call back, he talked to him nicely as well " my girlfriend called etc" the guy responded back with "give us the $16 dollars and this is going to be the last time you order food" Charging me the whole price of what they buy for a loaf of sliced white bread. Five stars just for Family Corner's avgolemono! It's $5-10 and satisfying with its creaminess, loads of lemon, and oodles of orzo. You can also select it as a side for some of the entrees. I've also been pleased with the Greek wrap ($9.75) and pork souvlaki plate ($14.95). This diner is on the mini side so I can imagine it might get tight during popular times. The employees/owners are nice, and service is efficient. Their Yelp blurb says they've been around since 1990, impressive! Family Corner closes at 3 PM on Saturdays and is not open Sundays. If you want to dine in on Saturday, try to arrive well before 2:30 PM to be seated. Looking forward to trying their breakfast sometime! read more

There isn't much seating inside but it's comfy and cozy if you want to eat inside! They have everything on the menu that you could possibly ask for - from breakfast to dinner and the prices are very reasonable. REVIEW OF FAMILY CORNER. What to make of Family Corner ,2102 31st Street? I've been pondering this all week. How do I grade them? I came here last weekend for breakfast. I was thinking of ordering the 'BEC' more commonly known as Bacon Egg and Cheese, on a roll, but because I was really hungry I ordered the breakfast burrito with egg bacon and cheese instead. What I received was not a burrito. I thought this is odd (see photo); ;this is something else? It later turned out that what I received was a breakfast wrap see photo of check. At least it was not as expensive as in other diners. Price of breakfast $14.15. I left a tip of $5. I can be generous! From the outside their entrance is rather subdued even suffering a bit of wear and tear along the awning. Inside it is a different story. Family Corner's layout is that of a very old school diner with stools up at front of the counter. The diner is so small that you could fit it into Mini Star, and still have some seating left. Size wise eating at family corner is like eating in a railway car with a mini kitchen at the far end. Even their plastic menus are a throwback to the past, reminiscent of Howard Johnson. I had not seen those around in years. Yes the lighting has held up Steve Siderakis It was easy to read their menu without glasses! The diner itself is definitely family friendly. Many of the diners knew each other as well as the staff. While waiting out a mini rain storm I asked what was on the dessert menu? I was told nothing except for an apple pie, which had seen better days. Fine, I was only going to be there while the rain lasts I struck up a conversation with what appeared to be the owner. I mentioned how small his diner was compared to Mini Star. His response.- they are closed! He was quite friendly as was the waitress who served me. Lily made us feel like family-and fed us like family! We tried the Avgolemono soup (a creamy Greek chicken soup with orzo and lemon), Pork Souvlaki with Pita and Tzatziki, egg cream and chocolate chip Pancakes. I didn't try the pancakes, but everything else was absolutely wonderful. Lily asked us all our names, and remembered them (including when she chased us out the door with my husband's backpack. a nice old school greek american diner in astoria that has plenty choices on the menu from typical american grub to greek delights. stop by during lunch after some good shopping in the area and had a decent turkey burger deluxe with a slice of blueberry pie for dessert. small space interior but enough booths and by the counter stools seating which allows plenty of room to enjoy breakfast , lunch , dinner .prices are reasonable and portions are more then average. plenty of options to pick from the menu and overall i can say that the food is very good. next time we will try some breakfast on our next visit .4 stars on my yelp meter. read more

My boyfriend and I came here this morning. We were actually on our to grab bagels and decided to stop in here instead! It's a small cozy place but we had no trouble grabbing a table. I believe this place is cash only, so make sure you have some on you. They do also have delivery on yelp and grubhub as well though. We were told to take a seat whoever and sat in the back. The waitress came over soon and took our drink order. We decided to order a bacon egg and cheese and blueberry pancakes. Everything came out fast and was cooked perfectly. The only complaint I would have is that I wish my pancakes had more blueberries! Overall though all the people were friendly, the atmosphere is a local cozy diner and the food was delicious.
