Always liked this location of Family Dollar. Friendly staff and near my house. Sadly, they're closing in the next week. In the meantime, they had 75% off everything in store and I stocked up on a bunch of candy I shouldn't have and it was just a couple of bucks. I was on my way to the DMV and needed $5.45 in cash. As someone who never carries cash, I stopped by Family Dollar on my way to buy something and get cash back. I explicitly stated what I needed and was told the minimum cash I could get back was $10. Since I was pressed for time, I agreed and bought a pack of gum, letting them know I needed $5.45 exactly and then the remainder of the $10 could be whatever combo of bills and coins. The employees agreed, and I was instructed to use Apple Pay and tap my device. I did, and the transaction went through but didn't give me cash back. The employee told me it was because I used a credit card and I needed to have used a debit card. Now, I'm not an expert in getting cash back. I have never had to do this before, so this was not common knowledge to me. This is something the employee should have told me. Nevertheless, I shook it off and asked for a refund, so that we could redo the transaction using a debit card. The employee begrudgingly refunded me, as if I was asking for something completely out of the ordinary and making her go out of her way. Then, we ran it with a debit card. The employee hands me a $10 bill. I asked if she could break it, which she had agreed to and acknowledged understanding before, and she told me "I already closed the register." I left at this point. I felt disrespected during the entire time I was at Family Dollar. I've lived in the area for 4 years and this is the first time I've ever been to this store, and definitely the last. read more

Where the "Beer to Go" sign is bigger than the Family Dollar Store sign (when do they have beer to stay?). Where you can gather and check-out with Pedialite, TP, and bean dip within 5 minutes. Where you can gather and check-out in 20 minutes with one box of pads because the baby momma in front of you is allowing her child to fondle everything in sight while she decides what items to put back, and then she rechecks the total each time she puts something back. Where I can go to Redbox (right outside) and hear some cranky, gnarly bitch slapping her hoof down repeatedly while I'm trying to hurry up and get my movie. Where people run out the back door and down the street with their cart of stolen goods. Where you can drive over a live electrical power line running across the parking lot behind the building. Where I can wear my polka dot robe, flip flops with socks, an eye patch and no one even looks twice. Where the employees are like bartenders: super friendly, ask personal questions, sometimes have a story to tell, and make you feel like you need a 2nd round. P.S. I have finally figured out that it is a requirement when you are in any $-type store to be on your cell phone screaming profanities throughout the store. Smelled like straight rat piss in this place. Employees sitting at the front counter with a head wrap and a house robe, playing on their phones. The store wasnt even being prepped for closing, this would have been the perfect time since there was only two people in the store, my friend and I. I asked to use the restroom as a paying customer and they stated there was no public restroom as if I looked as homely as they did. You win some, you lose some. I made my purchase and went to a smaller and cleaner establishment that allowed the public to use the restroom. As a courtesy I bought some gum. No star rating even worth it. read more

OK, so there's nothing spectacular about Family Dollar, but it is the closest store by foot to my home at Mueller that I don't have to cross a major road to get to. So when I'm in need of Coke or organic milk, it's the place to trot to with a stroller. It costs $1.25 for a 500 ml (ish) bottle of coke, and $1.25 for a 1.5 litre (ish) bottle. While the units of volume aren't important, all I'm saying is that the volume of cola doesn't impact the pricing of cola bottles. So extrapolating, the actual cost of cola is zero, and it's all about bottle costs. What's that all about? read more

This location has everything you never knew you needed but, will tell yourself you did once you stop in. They have a small parking lot but, I have never had a hard time finding parking. Of course you can get your cheap lunch stuff here like Ramen and cans of soup but, the best part is everything else. I have purchased cheap gym shorts and tank tops from here as well as necklace and earing sets that were $3.00 each but, I get so many compliments on them every time that I wear them. I also love their home goods section because they have a lot of unique finds for cheap and if you are on a budget and are looking for home accents that will make it look like you spent a bunch to make everything match, this is your place. The discount section always has great deals as well! The staff is always very friendly and after me shopping here twice they remember me and always ask me how I am doing! I'm a devoted Family Dollar shopper. I first "discovered" Family Dollar when living in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. In a town of 3,000 people, this was the only store that was open during posted business hours (besides Walmart). Moved to Santa Fe and continued my "relationship" with Family Dollar. Love the clothes and accessories. Oh yes! Ladies, you can get some cute stuff here at crazy cheap prices! Recently moved to Austin and love the Airport Blvd. Family Dollar! Yes, I agree with the other reviewers, the staff (shout out to Annie) are super friendly and the other customers provide "reality show" entertainment. What's not to love? read more

This is your standard, run-of-the-mill Family Dollar. If you haven't been to a family dollar, it's can be describes as in-between a convenience stop and a Walmart. You're not getting items any cheaper here than anywhere else. It just Feels cheaper. There are groceries (including some cold/freezer items), clothing, stationary, pet supplies, household items, holiday decorations and even a little bit of non-assembled furniture. I'm usually disappointed with the furniture (shelves, hampers nightstands etc) although if I rig them up I can get them to work (if I just don't move them too much). The grocery section is a bit of a joke but they have enough for a person that doesn't care what they're eating to get a snack. The staff is usually more friendly than helpful. But I'll return because it's close. read more

Most of the time I find what I need and I'm in and out with no issues. But this morning, the lady working was so rude. Apparently my need for assistance was too much for her this morning. I guess she wasn't ready to deal with people as she chose to ignore me, the only soul in the place, until I rang the counter bell. She then proceeded to shuffle her self to the front to sigh at me when I asked for something behind the counter. She was snippy and rude through the entire interaction. She made me so uncomfortable that I'll probably take my business elsewhere. It's such a shame too. I have lived in Mueller for 10 years and have never had an issue like this. The people that opened the place were so nice, I hope this isn't indicative of what we can expect from this place in the future. read more

The store has made some improvements. Once the improvements are complete I would give it another star. So far it looks like there is more room, and it does not have a cluttered feel to it. The registers are in a better place now. They are no longer blocking the entrance. The food products are on the right side of the store(as you enter). Okay, honestly: why on earth do people shop here?? I went in not expecting everything to *literally* cost a dollar, but at least expecting to see some bargains. WRONG. I price-checked many of my usual grocery staples from H-E-B, and literally almost EVERYTHING costs more here. Milk is $4/gallon vs. $3.29 at H-E-B. A six-pack of Fudgsicles is four bucks. Even a 12-pack of DP is $4.50 (vs. $4 at H-E-B). Color me disappointed and extremely unlikely to return. (Note: I did not check out the non-grocery part of the store, so I have no comment pro or con there.) read more

It's messy, that's for sure. And if you wear shoes in the store you will probably stand out and people will ask you questions thinking you are the assistant manager.. But if you just need a gallon of milk or a pair of tweezers and you don't want the hassle of Fiesta or Walgreens, then it can be convenient. But this place really needs to be one of the stores that gets replaced if and when an Airport Blvd revival happens (spurred by the Mueller redevelopment). read more
