Shopping in Kaneohe, Oahu, Hawaii... I've heard good things about Family Grocery Store and finally got a chance to check them out! Located in the same building with Chi-Chan's Okazuya and Valentine's Nails and Spa (on the ground level), Family Grocery Store is packed with merchandise! There's all kinds of local snacks like li hing mui and mochi crunch (arare). They even have candy (such as Snickers) and Chinese soup ingredients (example: white fungus). I got some salted duck eggs and pickled mustard cabbage. I'll give them to my mom to prepare... LOL! Gotta keep her busy and useful, right? THE BEST li hing mui on the island by far. And to be greeted by Aunty and Uncle-they have such great memories-they remembered me when I'd come home on breaks from when I was living on the mainland and would remember what I would buy. They would even ask about how my mom is doing because she'd buy the whole store to send me care packages filled with local snacks. As many other peeps recommend, the jumbo sweet li hing mui is bomb. There was a point in time when it didn't taste the same but it's back to it's high quality flavor again. I used to really like the licorice cherry when it first came out-this one can be hit or miss. I can tell if it's going to taste stellar by looking at it-if the licorice looks like it's integrated with the dried cherries then it should be superb. If the licorice appears to be sprinkled on over shiny, plump dried cherries, then it probably won't be as good but still enjoyable. They sell all sorts of goodies here. Gummi candies, almond cookies, li hing mango (wet or dry), spices, canned goods, soda, frozen treats, haw flakes, Chinese muscle rub, affordable lighters (and cigarettes so I've heard). I'd recommend paying in cash to avoid credit card fees. Free small lot of parking in front of the store. Be careful when you're leaving the lot-locals will usually be nice and let you turn if you signal and be patient. Don't forget to throw a shaka! read more

I only started coming here because I heard the Crispy Chinese Pretzels that you see at Long's is made (or distributed) by this store, so I wanted to go straight to the source to see what it's about. It's a small grocery store in Kaneohe Town, owned/operated by a Chinese couple. I try to buy pretzels from here instead of at Longs because the price is lower, and I'm supporting a small business. If you're planning to buy a lot of bags, call ahead to make sure they have them in stock. Their lemon peel gummy bears are delicious too! Came across this store on Instagram and was pleasantly surprised when we browsed the store! Crack seed and snack galore. If you like lemon peel candies, check out this shop! Picked up a basket of lemon peel goodies, and li hing snacks. My dad finished an entire bag of candies right when I brought it home. They also sell cigarettes which I think is cheap but since I don't smoke don't quote me on that. I always come here for their seeds like dry sweet lemon peel and their coconut candy read more

Great convenient place in Kaneohe off Kamehameha highway to get Chinese snacks, candy, seeds, chinese pretzels, and also Chinese medicines in Kaneohe . It will cost more than Chinatown but the convenience outweighs the savings. Small but adequate parking lot. They sell their chinese pretzels at places like Longs Drugs CVS and Foodland but you can get them fresh here. read more

Family Grocery Store is conveniently located right across the street from Taco Bell on Kamehameha Highway. It's a tiny store in a strip mall but you can't miss it. The signage is quite prominent. Quite a bit of parking Is located conveniently right outside the store. They have so many different kinds of seeds and kaki mochi. I went there specifically for the Extra Sweet Li Hing Mui but I ended up getting other types as well. The woman who was working was pleasant. read more

I went to this store to get my mom lemon peel gummy bears after she watched the Frolic video saying which ones were the best on island. They also have actual lemon peel which is awesome because no place else I looked has it! There were also lots of other seed stuff here and a small Asian grocery selection. It is cash only. read more

I was at Long's one day and passed by a bag of lemon peel gummy bears. They were the best I've ever had. A delicious tropical blend of gummy bears with a soft chewy texture, and layered with the perfect blend of sweet and tangy lemon peel pieces. It was so good that I drove from town to Kaneohe to seek out this store and see what else they had. I stocked up on several bags of the lemon peel gummy bears and picked up a few other items. The crispy pretzel was surprisingly one of my favorites too. It's almost like a thinner, crunchier version of a fortune cookie. Light and addicting. The lemon peel gushers were also amazing, a tasty twist on a childhood classic. This place is cash only and has parking in the lot. Definitely will be back again. read more

I LOVE their Sesame Seed Peanut Candy. Every time I go home I pick up a container of this wonderfully soft, not-so sweet, and crunchy treat.

I always drove by this store and maybe a few years ago I made a stop here. Bring it the year of the dog this year and I'm celebrating it with my dog, I went to Family Grocery to pick up some of their famous Chinese pretzels and almond cookies. But this store is a hidden gem and I hate to let the secret out! They sell crack seeds, and so the lady at the register said all her seed is good. Well, I say the seeds are delish here! Love the Crispy Pretzel's sold at Longs Drug Stores. These chinese pretzels are crispy and non-greasy. The label says it's packed by Family Grocery Store in Kaneohe. There are 5 huge flower-shaped pretzels in one bag retailing for about $4.99 a bag. They used to make them with black sesame seeds dotting the pretzels which gave it a senbei taste, but now they only come plain. That's okay, they are still the best chinese pretzels around and easily attainable at Longs. read more
