So I came here on a whim, and the food made it worth it. On the day that I came, the service was not super great. But everyone has bad days. I had to wait like 10 minutes just to get water and a menu (there were only 3 other tables occupied so it was not crowded). For it to not be full, it felt like they forgot I was in the corner. But again, it can happen to anyone. Now the food was a different story. I got the double cheeseburger and fries. The waitress said that the French toast was "off the chain" so of course I had to try that too. Sounds like gluttony, maybe it is.. But whatever lol. Once I got my waitresses attention, I was all good good. Paige waited on me and I appreciated her asking and remembering my name. Gave it a personal touch! So the hamburger was more of a homemade kind of burger and not something you would expect by being a pre-made patty. It gave off kind of a picnic kind of vibe. And I like that! The French toast was amazing. It looked like regular bread as all French toast does, but the amount of cinnamon they put on that joint was amazing. It was perfectly flavored. You can taste all of the cinnamon and all the nutmeg. I only get two slices of bread, but I would have got a third piece if I had known the first house is going to be that good! Also to note, they have a bar at the front where you can do your own food in a buffet style. I didn't get that because I wanted to get breakfast and burgers, but they have other dinner things. Like beans or mashed potatoes. It's just an option. But I would love to go back, for a full order of french toast, if nothing else! Once the service guy going, the service was good. Wow! A truly unexpected hidden gem in Duluth! Everything about this place was awesome. When you walk in, it's like stepping back in time to your cute Grandmother's house. It's nostalgic! We were greeted instantly by several employees, all with genuine smiles. My husband and I had our two year old son with us, and everyone was so kind to him! A few employees came over and entertained him, made him smile. So helpful when he was having a mini meltdown. I noticed too, such a family atmosphere. Everyone that worked there was smiling and laughing, chatting with every customer, knowing many by name. It was undeniable, you could feel the strong family atmosphere. After reading the great reviews, we were excited to try the breakfast here. The staff was very welcoming and attentive. This is a basic/no frills restaurant, which is fine, however I didn't realize we would be eating on paper plates and utensils. Not sure if thats due to Covid, or its their standard practice. My husband had the eggs, toast, grits and a pancake. Pretty standard. I had a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit. That was good.....However, after one bite of those seasoned home fried I had enough. They taste and smell like fish. Oh no! Urgh! I asked the waitress if they deep fry them in the same grease as fish, she said no and asked me to give them back (so she could let the cook taste it). Never heard back on that, but I did ask for hash browns instead. Those were better. We just really didn't find anything special here worth coming back for. :( Apparently they do offer some sort of meat plus 2 veggie lunch that may be popular. read more

First time to try this place and we loved it! I'm so happy it's so close to our house and now we have a local favorite to go to! I was looking for a local, home style breakfast place and we found it. The owners are really sweet and are a family operated business. The husband is cooking and the wife is at the counter. The staff are very kind and attentive and I could tell they knew their regulars. The food was hot and fresh and everything was delicious. The biscuit was just what I was looking for!! Hot and slightly crispy on the outside and super fluffy and soft on the inside. This place is a gem in Duluth. The have the BEST cheeseburger in this region. Kenny, the owner, uses Angus beef cooked to perfection with fresh shredded lettuce, tomatoes and onions. Better than Shake Shack. I usually get it with Tater Tots. The hot food line during lunch is also fantastic. You can get one meat with two side dishes and biscuit/cornbread AND a drink. The biscuit with a little jelly is heaven. I think it's $8.99 for all this food. The selection is great. I usually go with the Salisbury steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. So this restaurant has been around at this location since 1988. I have driven past this place innumerable times, always wondering what this place is like. I mean, the name does't not give you any indication on the cuisine. And no Yelp reviews at all! But finally I decided to give it a try and write about it. How bad could it be? Turned out, not so bad at all. This place is located right next to the another southern food dive, 'Duluth Rexall grill' and pizza hut. It's a very old building inside and outside. They serve southern food, sandwiches and burgers here. Before we talk more about my experience, let me get one thing out of the way. It's a typical dive, so if you come here expecting food that's made from scratch at the restaurant, you will be disappointed. They are open only for breakfast and lunch, from 5.30 am to 2 pm on Monday to Friday and from 6 am to 1 pm on Saturday. First thing you notice when you enter is, the buffet bar with various southern food option. And then there is a second seating area with more tables. They ask you upfront if you want to see the menu or choose one of the lunch buffet options. The buffet is not unlimited. You have three options, 1) one meat, three vegetables, one dessert, bread and tea for $7.49 2) one meat, two vegetables, bread and tea for $6.99 3) three vegetables, bread and tea for $5.49 And the menu includes, 1) breakfast items - eggs, pancakes and stuff like that 2) Sandwiches 3) wings 4) Burgers 5) Hotdogs 6 Salads I ordered, Philly cheese steak with fries($6.99) and salmon sandwich for to-go($4.39). The Philly cheese steak was surprisingly good - they give a lot of meat and enough steak melted on it. I doubt the bread is amoroso, but it was good nevertheless. And I didn't see much mushrooms, then again, i liked it overall. The fries was good but wasn't seasoned at all. That's fine by me, I can douse it in ketchup. The salmon sandwich is basically ground salmon patty. It was quiet salty, hard to eat and quiet frankly nasty. The service was good. The waitress was very attentive and filled my water as I emptied it. So, I will go to this place again only for quick and cheap food and perhaps for very early morning breakfast. 3 stars read more

The wait staff have memorized our orders (my go-to is the #1 with over easy eggs, grits, and whole wheat toast with a coffee) and are extremely friendly.
