I discovered this place several weeks ago and was impressed with the high rating, but was disappointed when I learned that they weren't open on Sundays. This time we were looking for a breakfast spot on a Saturday, and it was a beautiful sunny day, so this seemed like the perfect place to go. Unfortunately, their outdoor tables were not set up for some inexplicable reason. You don't get very many sunny and 70° days in Michigan, so when you have the equipment to serve outdoors, I don't understand why you wouldn't take advantage of it. Regardless, we decided to go ahead and eat here anyway. Jocelynn, our server, was very friendly and attentive. The food, however, was a bit of a disappointment. We both got Benedict's, with mine being a Cali Benedict. I asked for the pesto hollandaise because it sounded interesting, but I didn't realize it just meant they dumped pesto on top of the existing hollandaise. This was my second time coming to Family Table Café in Auburn Hills, and it absolutely did not disappoint. My buddy Steve loves this place, and I can completely see why. The food and service are both amazing every time. One extra bonus for me--it's in the same building as my all‑time favorite pizza spot, Pizza Pl. / Larco Brothers, so it already gets major points in my book. Our server was fantastic--very attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was perfect. I ordered the Southern Benedict, which was a sausage patty topped with a poached egg on an English muffin, smothered in gravy. It came with crispy potato chunks and fresh strawberries, and wow... so delicious. Comfort food done right. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. This update is WAY overdue! especially since my original impression was too hasty. It's almost 10 years after my first visit and review and I'm still going there 2 to 3 times a week. Had I remembered that I had left this review. I would have updated it long ago. Sorry guys! The food is very good! Much better than your advantage breakfast - lunch diner. The produce is always fresh. I've never experienced wilted lettuce or a bad tomato here. They put a little unique touches to there recipes that makes this place stand out. Their soups are ALL very good. The one thing from my original review that I'll stick to is, I wish they had a few more typical diner items on their menu, like a tuna melt, a Reuben maybe even coneys. Since I'm there, so often, it would be nice to have just a little more variety on the menu. The staff is very friendly, and the service is normally pretty good. On occasion, it might be a little slow if they've had some wait staff turnover but that's usually pretty short-lived. If I had to sum this place up in one sentence. MUCH better food then the advantage diner at about the same prices as the advantage diner. read more

Great breakfast spot! Best Biscuits and Gravy I have encountered in Michigan. The biscuit was homemade with flakey layers, and the gravy was ok- the star being that biscuit! The breakfast burrito was stuffed with eggs, potatoes, chorizo, peppers, onions, and cheese, then grilled to perfection. They have street parking in front and off street parking in the rear, entrances on both. There are some outdoor tables in front on the sidewalk which would be perfect for warmer weather. Our first visit yesterday; came in w not knowing what to expect, and were pleasantly surprised by this gem in AH! We arrived at noon and were told it would be a 10-15mins wait. We were seated in 10mins or less. Staff was hustling to turn over tables, and doing a great job keeping things clean and ready for next customers! Service was fantastic; our waitress (Alyssa G.) was personable, answered our questions, and even mentioned items that are their best sellers. First off: can I love on them for just a second, because they offer two different roasts of coffee (went with the dark roast, which was good)! I ordered the Wild Mushroom Omelet, choosing Parmesan grits and biscuit for my sides. The omelet was delicious; fluffy and perfect ratio of cream cheese to mushrooms. I also loved that the green onions were cooked into the omelet's exterior! The Parmesan grits were tasty (they cook Parmesan on the grill directly making it crispy!). Biscuit was buttery and soft. This is a cozy local gem I ordered the black bean burger that came with house chips and it was great My friend ordered the berry salad with grilled chicken and it came with a tasty homemade chive biscuit. Both were delicious The restaurant sits nestled in a strip of businesses along the main drag of the old downtown area of Auburn Hills and is notably a local favorite. I would like to make only one suggestion and that is to let people know that they can sit wherever they want and that someone will be with them to take their order. Every time I eat here, I always think of how I would've rather eaten anywhere else. It's not bad, it's just incredibly mediocre. They're always slammed so it takes forever for the food to come out and there's constantly the ambiance of slamming dishes in the kitchen right next to you. I end up paying more for my meal than what I feel is justified and I always leave unsatisfied, thinking "why did I come here again?" To add insult to injury, you'll always leave smelling like burnt foot. The servers are genuinely kind and courteous, at least. Family table is just criminally meh. read more

This establishment was good for the value, but 15-20 per person for breakfast here us simply not worth it. Love supporting local places. The owners aren't friendly and simply do not seem to care about their customers. This is sad, because the price for breakfast o. One item went from 7.99 to 10.99. This was a great find! Everyone in our party really liked the food. They have more creative things on the menu, but not too crazy. For example, I had the special which was grilled cheese with goat cheese and blackberries with bakery type sour dough bread. It was delicious. The staff is friendly. Downtown Auburn Hills is cute. Family Table has been on my list practically since they opened but this was the first time we stopped in to eat. We met our monthly lunch group (seven this time) here for brunch. We had two tables pushed together, then our server took our drink orders and left us to study the menu. My wife decided to try the Veggie Breakfast Bowl while I ordered the Apple White Cheddar Omelet and added Biscuits and Gravy as well! Our food came out after about ten minutes hot and fresh! The intriguingly-named Omelet was surprisingly delicious and slightly sweet. For the Biscuits and Gravy I have to say advantage Gravy; it had the right amount of peppery flavor but was not overwhelming. My wife's Veggie Breakfast Bowl was good but she mentioned she would have like a bit less Potatoes and more Veggies. Generally everyone was satisfied with their choices. Service was great and our Coffee never got empty, although my wife did swap water glasses with me when hers was empty. I ordered the meat breakfast bowl with no eggs (I'm not an eggs person) and a side of toast. It was about $8 for the bowl and $1 for the toast, which is very reasonable. I regret not ordering the monkey bread because as I got up to use the restroom, I walked by a few orders of them, and they looked delicious. This was my first time here and we came here because we were attending an event at Michigan By the Bottle (across the street) later in the day. There is a plentiful amount of FREE street parking in front of the restaurant and I found out later that there is a big parking lot in back of the restaurant, as well. I usually opt for savory when I go out for breakfast. Instead, I went with sweet - the banana/walnut pancakes + asked them to toss in some chocolate chips. Pancakes like my mom used to make. Delish! My friend got a veggie bowl with egg - looked amazing. I took the maple harvest salad home for dinner + added salmon. It was SO good. The maple/dijon dressing is really good. Nestled in the heart of tiny downtown Auburn Hills is the Family Table Cafe. It's a smallish breakfast/lunch diner kind of place with the usual things you'd expect to find on the menu. A few stand-outs to note include the many variations of avocado toast. There were around 7-9 different combinations, easily more than I've ever seen on an menu. They were actually listed in the specials board so YMMV. We started with a lemon, blueberry scone which went perfectly with our coffees. This was delicious and they had other flavors of scones available. Our order today consisted of a couple of our top hits. She got the club sandwich. It was sliced into halves instead of the usual quarters and was as tall as your basic coffee mug. The fries it came with were freshly fried, thinly sliced potato chips. I couldn't have just one. I ordered the breakfast sandwich, exactly the way I used to get at the lunch place in a building I used to work at for many years. Definitely an old favorite of mine that I had been missing: sausage patty with fried egg and cheese on a croissant. It was so good, I ordered another one after finishing the first one. Initially it seems like a real hole in the wall but their menu is really unique and amps up the diner feel to include dishes like mushroom omelette with cream cheese, apple grilled cheese, veggie bowl with goat cheese, and a variety of artisanal salads. I highly recommend for any breakfast junkie. I took off one star because occasionally you can wait awhile for your dish but that is a part of any unique restaurant not doing solely short order. The staff seemed very nice and accommodating, and I even heard one server singing, which was kind of cool. I loved that they have the option of light roast or dark roast coffee. I love coffee, but I don't like it strong, so this was a good thing. They also had flavored creamers on the table, which I also liked. And, the light roast was very good. Their menu was interesting. They had lots of choices and some unusual omelets. But, I opted for the ordinary -- a spinach, feta & mushroom omelet. They offered a choice of grits, home fries, hash browns or a pancake. I got the home fries, and I chose biscuits for the bread choice. The omelet was seemed of small, considering it was made with 3 eggs; I've made larger ones myself with only 2 eggs. But, that was just a point of curiosity. The problem was that it was WET! The spinach was fresh, so I don't know where the liquid was from. I was going to send it back, but I wasn't all that hungry. The biscuits were okay -- kind of bready, for my taste, rather than the crisp outside that I prefer. They didn't come with butter, so I asked for some. What they gave me was a cup packets of butter-like SPREAD. I'm sorry, but margarine is NOT butter, and I don't understand restaurants that don't give you the option of both. They were good about filling up my coffee. However, the last time they filled it up, the coffee tasted it like it was the dark roast -- and like it was old. With that, I decided I was done. I took the leftovers home with me and will cook them more to my liking. The home fries were the bright spot. They were perfectly golden brown (and perfectly cubed, which leads me to believe that they were not homemade), a bit crispy and very tasty. Maybe I'd set my sights too high, and while I liked the neighborhood-like atmosphere and the friendliness of the people, I just didn't really care for the food. read more

Our coffees were continually topped off by a very sweet and attentive waitress. Best of all, we were offered complimentary monkey bread, which was delicious. Today, I returned for lunch, ordering a buffalo chicken wrap and Tater tots. Loved all the crisp, fresh veggies in the wrap. The chicken was crispy and well seasoned. I'm a tater tot snob.
