He then proceeded to call us cheap and slammed the door on the way out. Maybe this company has some nice, professional technicians, but Will is not one of them. I'm glad I was visiting and he did not come while my mother was home alone, as he came angry and only got more hot-headed from there.

The problems were temporarily solved, but usually never on the first shot. There was always a follow up visit or a missing part that the servicemen did not have on hand. Since we're not from the area, we just kept going back to the same repair company because we didn't know any better. After trying to get said Norwalk appliance repair company on the phone, no one picked up when they were supposed to have been opened at 8 am. Then after a voicemail and finally a third attempt at eventually speaking to someone, my wife was on hold for 20 minutes. When she spoke with customer service, they said they couldn't help us based on her description of what was wrong with our dryer. When she asked for a referral, she was told to try Google. I don't want to name the other company, but like they said, you could probably Google it. That was the last straw. My wife called Dobson based on a recommendation from another service provider after a bit of a wild goose chase trying to find someone who could help us. They were available to come the next day, even as it was a 2-person job, since the washer and dryer were stacked. They showed up when they said they would. They wore masks the whole time. They diagnosed the problem. They pointed out what was wrong. They fixed issues that the prior service men neglected to fix the first time, in order to ensure our washer and dryer ran smoother. Apparently, the dryer vent wasn't hooked up properly, which may or may not have been the prior service providers fault, but Dobson made the fix nonetheless. They cleaned our ducts, as we asked. Then they fixed the dryer and tested and then re-tested to ensure it worked properly. We highly recommend Dobson for reliable service that solve problems the first time around.

They said DVS did not contact them until 9/11!! It was determined yesterday that it is not cost-effective to repair my appliance. No one contacted me. Also, I forgot to mention that the day of service, repair tech was supposed to be at my home between 12-4 (I originally scheduled for 8-12, but they changed it). Tech showed up well after 4 and proceeded to sit in my driveway for another 20-30 minutes on a PERSONAL call, as if my time is not as valuable.

Appliance Repair Pros was the first company we came across, and since we were in a rush and on a tight deadline before our family gathering, we went with their service right away. We usually call a few companies and compare prices, but this time it was difficult to make time for that. I've replaced belts, timers, heating elements and a set of wheels that a drum was supported by on an older unit years ago. I tell you this to submit that I am more than handy when it comes to fixing things. When I phoned Barry, I had the make, model and serial numbers written down and I was prepared to read them to him. He wasn't interested. He said "if it's the bearings, I have the four most common types on my truck at all times. I'll be able to fix it." I asked him for a rough estimate. He said "140-165". I booked him for Monday. He told me between 10-2:30. He showed up just after 10am. He popped the top off the dryer, looked inside and said "you need a new dryer. This one isn't worth fixing" He handed my wife a bill for $113.79 He said he could fix it, but it would cost over $300, so we should just buy a new unit. This dryer was a very inexpensive model and that's why it wore out so fast. We rent, so I have no idea if it was bought new. It can't be 5 years old. It's a modern unit. So, my take on this is as follows: shame on me. I should have forced him to acknowledge the make and model to determine whether the dryer was a cheesy unit or one that was constructed in such a way that it could be repaired for a reasonable amount of money. But then, he might not have made $113.79 for having spent 20 minutes here. If we ever need an appliance repair again I will not consider calling Barry's Appliance Service. Barry Bernheim/owner
