I know, I know. Yelpers generally swear off from chain barbecue but at least Famous Dave's is a known quantity and I'll be honest: I wanted a good rotisserie chicken. So I stopped in to Dave's and at least ordered it to go. The gent who took my order was polite. My chicken took about ten minutes to be prepared and was brought to me at the small waiting area for to go orders. When I got it back to the hotel, it was packed properly and my order was correct. Fortunately, I'd grabbed some cutlery from their display station as none was included in the bag. The chicken was a dry rub, not wet or covered in sauce. This was great as most sauces are loaded in sugar and carbs that are no good on my keto diet. The chicken was tasty and meaty and cooked properly. I enjoyed it. I love Famous Dave's-- it has to be one of my favorite chains! We only have one in Ohio so I always get excited when I am traveling and see a Famous Dave's nearby! I was on a road trip with my sister and brother-in-law and we were driving through SD. Figured it would be best to stop in Bismarck since it's the capital and more options to choose from. I of course got very excited when my sis told me there was a FD! I was sold! This FD is bigger than ours in Ohio. Felt like it was newer, but still with the same old vibe that makes it a great BBQ joint! We were seated right away which was great-- it looked like the parking lot was full! I will cut to the chase and say that my meal was great-- which it always is from Famous Dave's (I LOVE the Cedar Plank Salmon, corn bread and fries!). What makes this location lose two stars for me is the service. Our waitress REALLY didn't seem like she wanted to be there. Was very offputting and rude. I haven't had a waitress like that in awhile so it was a turnoff. I always try to give the benefit of the doubt (maybe she just broke up with her boyfriend, maybe she just got in trouble at work? Idk!) But given that this was our only time outside of the car in a 12 hour drive across the state, it would be nice to have someone more welcoming! She also didn't give us silverware right away so our food came out and we asked for silverware. The manager then came over and asked how everything was. We had to tell him we didn't know because we didn't have silverware to eat anything. He quickly brought it out and then our waitress soon followed with some extras that we'd asked for (ketchup, extra sauce, etc). It was still the same great FD meal I'm used to, but the unwelcoming attitude of our waitress really turned me off. I love FD enough that I'd of course go back if I lived in this area. But I was just disappointed in the service. For those who haven't been here before: The Rich and Sassy is my fave sauce. So zesty and flavorful with a hint of sweet! The fries are my fave. I love wedge fries. And the cornbread is cooked to perfection! My only request is that they bring back the drunken apples. Those were also a family fan favorite! read more

As a Tennessee resident, perhaps I had unrealistic expectations on this place. The atmosphere was fun, which is the reason for the 2 stars I did put on it. I got the burnt ends and they were so bad, I didn't even want to eat them. They tasted like they had been cooked in the microwave- they were rubbery- not like the burnt ends I had back home. The rest of the family's meal was average. I cant remember what they got. Another sign of how bad this place is, as I look when I drive by, there are never any cars in the parking lot. Grabbed lunch here with our family of 5 ( kids are 3, 7, and 12) and ordered the Famous Feasts - Feast for 2 and a cup of chili. It was a generous portion. Food was delicious as expected and the staff was friendly and attentive. Even though we sat in self serve, staff brought our order to the table and cleaned up as well as we finished up. Too expensive for what you get and not worth it at all I'm forced to write more and I don't know what to write except it's not worth it

My husband was hungry for chicken barbecue and all the fixens. We found Dave's on Yelp, and it was perfect, just what we were looking for. Waitress was super friendly, and service was fast. The booths needed some work, ripped seat cushion, and the table felt a little sticky. Food was decadently delicious. We split our meal, as usual, so we felt that it was plenty. Coleslaw was really good, chicken tender and had just enough barbecue flavor for our taste. We would stop at a Dave's again when we see one on our travels! read more

The fat guy up front is very rude. It was my families first time eating at this establishment. We was told it's self seating the right side is counter service the left side is full service. We went to left side and picked a table immediately the fat fcker came in a very bitchy tone with is finger out saying no I said left side this is for 21 and up on and I said sir this is left said and he again said no this left side. We made it a few days ago and I want to say even though the waitress kept rushing us by asking us if we wanted anything else in the middle of eating our meal . Best thing going in Bismarck!!! This one is easy! In six weeks, I've been to Famous Dave's five times. Since I spend a lot of my off-work time alone, Dave's is the perect spot for me to go, sit in the bar, and watch the NBA Playoffs while I dine. I've had the ribs, chicken, ham, catfish fingers, and cod fillet. All are good! The corn, cornbread muffins, baked beans, and cole slaw are all good! All of the sauces are good! The sweet tea is perfectly prepared! A mini bread pudding tops off any meal, whether I finish my food or not, simply because it has the best sauce I've ever tasted - even in New Orleans! Service is adequate and a bit friendlier considering the area (see my Bistro review). Famous Dave's serves award-winning bar-b-que and is, arguably, one of the best I have encountered in the country. read more

While visiting my daughter we decided to go Famous Dave's for lunch. I had the Georgia chopped pork. Interesting since I live in Georgia. The pork was very good, the fries great. Got the baked beans but they came out barely warm, so any flavor was lost because of that. We got the "burnt ends" appetizer. This is no pit masters secret of the brisket. It is all the fatty pieces cut off and seared crisp to mask the fact they are scraps of meat meant for the garbage. I paid $8.99 for fat scaps cut off the brisket...did I mention how few of them there were? My daughter said the green beans were awful and to NEVER get them. Also, we got some banana pudding to go, but some of it was oddly laced with some garlic flavoring. Really?? Yes, really. I would give them a second try because the pork and fries were good, however; for what it costs to eat here it is two strikes to be out, not three. Snaps for great decor and great service. I like to think I know good que when I eat it. Famous Dave's was a very pleasant surprise here in Bismarck, ND -- the land of walleye. I had the hot link and brisket combo for lunch and it was very good. The link had a good char and was obviously made with a natural casing because it popped when I bit into it. The brisket was very tender and had a visible smoke ring. The Devil's Spit sauce was nice and hot. Their sauces must cook for a while because they are very smooth without any raw flavors or grit. This place has such a cool atmosphere it's so fun and goes really well with the theme. I love the inside of the restaurant and all of its decorations. We decided to get Famous Dave's through food dudes for supper. We have never had a problem with our food before. This time we didn't get all our order right and the food did not taste very good. The mac and cheese had a metallic taste, we didn't get hardly any chicken strips, we didn't get any sauces on the side, my kid didn't get the sides they ordered they got different sides. This is a chain, so lets not pretend that we are going to be getting world class BBQ. I stopped in on a Monday night. They were closing early for some reason, but still (reluctantly) decided to serve me. After hailing down the waitress in the bar area, I ordered a beer ($5.99). After getting my beer, I decided to order a burger. I settled on the Devils spit burger ($11.59). The burger was average at best (2.5/5), which was a bit disappointing. Perhaps I was there on a bad night, but staff was really unhelpful and generally disinterested in helping me out. I've had their BBQ at other locations before and it's actually pretty good - but this was a different experience. I can't recommend this place with a mediocre burger, and I'm probably not going to be back. read more

Had the Ultimate feast. With ribs brisket and chicken. I think they do a great job on their chicken. The brisket is very good with a nice smoke flavor and it is tender as well.
