I went to Famous Dave's last night for my Dad's Birthday and had a really good time. I ordered ribs (of course) and loved the flavor! Like others have said, it may be a chain restaurant, but it definitely knows what it's doing. The selections of BBQ sauce were great and each had their own great flavor. In addition, the portions were huge and I happily have leftovers to enjoy today! The service was very kind and treated us well and the area we ate in was very clean. I rarely write bad reviews but.....Won't be eating here again. $80 for a family of 5 (that's with 2 meals off the kids menus, 1 soda, waters and no appetizer) we made a comment walking out we should have went next door to Taco Johns. First thing I noticed was it was DIRTY. Even my 8 year old said something before I mentioned it. (That's saying something) We sat down at a table that had a card that read "Not here Rona" assuming this table was clean. Nope. Crumbs. My son had to wipe crumbs off with his hand. I sat down and instantly my butt stuck to the seat. Sauce. "Rona" must not live on the chairs here. Our food was semi warm. "Red skin mashed potatoes" were clearly out of a box. Emergency door was open. It was 45 degrees outside. The lack of care at this restaurant is telling. On the walk out I accidentally dropped my tooth pick in the waiting area. I left it bc I looked around at the floor and didn't want to touch the floor. This place hasn't had a deep clean in a long time. With their Covid ordering you order at a counter like a fast food place. You have to go up and get your own refills etc. Basically like eating at Culver's but with an $80 price tag for a family. Great flavors. There was more fat on the rib tips than I would have liked, but the bbq sauces and cornbread really were quite delicious. The coleslaw was great and really fresh! I had ordered Mac and cheese as a side, which I highly do not recommend, and exchanged them for the green beans with no problem. Service was great. 3 stars for too much fat in the brisket and rib tips and the creepiest bathroom I have ever been to. Be warned, ladies. There are way too many pocahontas paintings within the stalls and walls that gave me quite the fright. I was never so eager to get out of a bathroom in my life. Decent barbecue. I wasn't impressed at all. I've never not finished a plate of barbecue, I barely ate any of it.

Great food, great staff, prices are a little high for frequent visits, but the quality of the treatment and food validates it.

We have been regulars here since it opened in 1998. Throughout the rotation of management and staff over the years, we've had great service and food in general. Despite the big wing chain moving in a block away, Dave's business doesn't seem to be suffering too much. This can only be attributed to their superior buffalo wings and other food as well. read more

The word that keeps coming to me is "mediocre." Not the Famous Dave's I remember. Good spices but rib tips were mostly bone and half were overcooked. Not terrible (food has to be really bad for me to complain), but for $15 you can do a lot better. People were nice, but there needs to be some basic policy training revisited. After the entree, you should check that everything tastes ok 'once.' Checking in four times is a bother and not worth the interruption. read more

For a chain, this place is really quite good. I had the chopped pork meal, my friend had the same as a sandwich. They have a bunch of sauces to choose from, all of which are good, and represent a variety of styles (Texas, Kansas City, Carolina). Even the hottest one isn't that hot, so if you like a LOT of heat, this may not be your place. The sides are also quite nice. Their chips are freshly made and really good. I had sweet corn (which, since it's summer, and Iowa, was local and fresh), and the mac n'cheese. The mac n'cheese has corn and jalapenos in it and is awesome. They also have very good coleslaw, and I am picky about coleslaw after being spoiled by my mother's. The cornbread comes as a cute little muffin and was pretty good. All in all a great experience! Love the loose atmosphere and eclectic surroundings. Service was just gearing up for the dinner rush but our host and server were ready. Food was spot on and gave my boyfriend and I just the kind of satisfaction we were desiring. SASSY SAUCE!!!! Wings were just the right medium crunch but tender at the same time. Don't neglect the burnt ends! Sounds daunting like something out of a bad horror flick but trust me when I say you'll be missing out on a BBQ connoisseur must. read more

Came in around 9pm (they close at 10pm) our waitress was very friendly, attentive and very sweet even though we didn't waking out until 5 minutes after close. Have never had bad service or tried anything that wasn't amazing! Highly suggest catfish fingers as an appetizer if you're a newbee to Famous Daves. Wish we didn't live almost 20 minutes away, we would be here for every dine out night! read more

I have eaten many Famous Dave's restaurants. This one is the worst I have ever been to. The food has sometimes been served to me cold, the cornbread muffins which I usually love from Famous Dave's are 10-20 % smaller than I get at other Famous Dave's and seem to be consistently over cooked. (Seems like they are baking the amount of time they are supposed to but since smaller than should be, not as moist and perfectly baked but rather more on the dark brown side, crustier than normal and dry. They sometimes run out of cornbread muffins at the end of the day. If you get there after 7:30, staff seems to be unavailable. One time, I walked out after sitting at table and not being even acknowledged after sitting there for over 10 minutes. Too bad as Famous Dave's is usually good. After eating here multiple times, it is easy to see why Texas Roadhouse has a waiting line and you can get right in to this restaurant...... you just might have to wait a long time to get waited on! read more

If you enjoy paying quite a bit of money for great barbecue, Famous Dave's is your place. It is a bit expensive, but the meal and environment make up for it. My personal favorite is the "Feast". A feast of different meats and sides all served on a trash can lid. The feast will feed a large family easily, and is comparable to other sit down restaurants in price in that way. Not an everyday meal, but definitely great for special occasions! read more
