There is really not much to it -- I'm a HuHot lover through and through. I don't think I could be a bigger fan of this restaurant model. There is nothing that gets me quite as excited as piling up heaping bowls of meat, noodles, and veggies and cooking them with the HuHot sauces/oils. I've never left a HuHot location unsatisfied and the Cedar Falls location was no exception. Service and ambiance are always great, and I'm lucky that I'm accompanied by the best company whenever I come here. We do love Hu Hot. Our servers have been really good the many, many times we have been there with our kids and grandkids! Tonight we actually had an exception. I will preface this with the fact we found out it was her 3rd shift as a hostess/ server here. Grace and understanding applied for that...and they saved a star by the way they removed us from her server duties and spent time going over the SHOULD HAVE BEEN 'non-issue' she had turned into an awkward situation for all. I have family in town from out of state visiting us as I am battling inoperable stage 4 cancer. We recommend Hu Hot saying they are always good! Our servers have always been fast and friendly! Our server came and she introduced the process and 'one bowl' rule to our visitors. (All in late 70's and 84 yrs old and never been to a Hu Hot) I have never had them push that ONE BOWL rule except on the sign. But...ok. Asked about drinks and I asked for a bowl of lemon wedges for all the waters then ordered drinks. My aunt opted for just water, I ordered an ice tea, wife ordered a lemonade then my uncle said, very clearly, "ice tea please" and my aunt said "me too, I will have the ice tea". All 5 of us were very clear on what was ordered. She dropped off 1 ice tea, 1 lemonade and 3 waters and the lemon slices. We noticed 2 missing ice teas NO BIG DEAL! EASY FIX! and I told my wife we would just flag her down. A different server came by and I asked for the 2 missing ice teas. He said "Sure! I will let your server know". The original server came back and set down 3 ice teas on the end of the table and said "Here's the 3 ice teas but you said 3 waters! But I will replace them anyways". Very rude tone! Our jaws actually dropped and 3 of 5 of us all spoke up and said "nobody ordered 3 waters and we all heard ice teas. She walked off in a 'whatever' manner and we all stared at each other in a bit of shock. Really!!! Mad at us because she messed up the order we all heard?? Wife went up to the same server at the bar to make sure we weren't charged for the 4th tea and explain that we ordered what we wanted...in a very calm tone. Server said "I don't like the way your talking to me and am getting a Manager! Mind blown again. The assistant Mgr came out and had a good , calm, intelligent talk at the table (learned it was her 3rd shift) and they made adjustments in the staff to get us a server we could talk to who did a great job. The food, (good as always)second server and assistant mgr earned the 3 stars. Really do NOT know what this young lady is going through in life...plus a new job...so Grace and possible extenuating circumstances mindset applied. I do hope it's not as bad as inoperable stage IV terminal cancer. . Even fighting THAT, I can't be that intolerably rude. We do pray she finds a peace that allows her to answer a Mis-heard order with a "Sorry about that! I'll be right back with your _______ ." Or something friendly like that! We will adjust our statement made while suggesting Hu Hot to my family and friends in the future to saying "The food is always good and the service is ALMOST always fast and friendly". It seems like HuHot must have talked to some of the employees who were causing cooking problems on the grill line. We decided to give the place a try again last month, and things have been a lot better. Still, during the peak hours (like lunch or the busiest noon time), food does get a bit burned. It's nothing like it used to be, though, so I'll be returning more often. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I love Mongolian grills and hibachi stir fry. We have chow baby in Atlanta and they do a great job with their stir fry. Now, let's get into this review: the restaurant was not clean, I am vegan so I was expecting to have more vegetable options on the bar along with brown rice and wontons. I was also expecting to have seasons to add to the stir fry bar. The grill was very dirty and they were using spatulas on the same stir fry as the other food next to my stir fry, which had meat in it so it was a lot of cross contamination going on. The food was bland and the vegetables were not cooked properly because of the heat on the grill. This restaurant chain is a fresh concept of creating your own meal. With rows of meats, vegetables and sauces, you become your own food master. After filling your bowl, you hand it off to the chef who cooks it on a huge grill and then gives back to you to carry off to your table. You are free to go up as many times as you wish. I like to get smaller portions and try new sauce mixtures. It's a good place for vegetarians, but make sure they tell the chef so they keep meats away on the grill. Well I am just disappointed, there was a couple that worked there a line filler and a cook a little over a month ago and they always made my experience great! She would aways ask how I was and the line was always pretty and full, he cooked my meals perfect and always had a smile and a joke. After a couple weeks they weren't there and I finally asked if they were on vacation and I was told they were terminated. When I asked why the young server with dark long hair replied because they are messed up people. Twice, my wife won't through the line. She made eye contact with the grilling folks and told them she's gluten free. They proceeded both times to put the food on the grill and use the same spatulas as they used on others food, so she had to go back through and redo her bowl. Love this place!!! You pay 10 or 15 bucks or so for a full meal and you can make your own wok basically. Fill your bowl as many times as you want with delicious meats and veggies and sauce. They cook it for you in front of you. It's a really cool experience and the food is super good too. You get a bowl of rice with a meal and it really brings it all together. Super good. In fact I would say this is the best restaurant for everyone in your party to get what they want in this shopping center. There isn't a better restaurant in this area. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants to go to. Some people would say that they do not want to try it because it is Mongolian, but it is basically filling a bowl with meats, noodles, and vegetables and then adding sauces. Service is decent, but you mainly serve yourself. This is done by going up to a buffet like bar and adding meat, followed by noodles and vegetables and then sauce to a bowl. You then go to a grill and they cook the dish right there, with it taking about 4 minutes. I recommend trying a variety of things to find out what you like most. I also so highly recommend the s'mores at the end. They are $8, but well worth it. They bring a little tray like camp fire to your table and you make them right there. 5/5 stars. read more

Pretty solid visit today at lunch. We were seated right away and our waitress came and ordered our drinks right away. I love that they have the coke machine with all the different flavors. We came at the right time because the frill wasn't too busy. I got my standard items I always get: beef , crab, cabbage, green beans, carrots & baboon shoots and rice noodles. I tried their seasonal black pepper sauce , it was really flavorful. I just did one ladle of it anymore and it would have over powered it. The waitress was really attentive and kept our refills coming and dirty plates cleared. She didn't smile much but was in no way rude. It was $31 for my dad, me and my seven year old. Not too terrible, better than going for dinner when they charge you the larger rate for a Noel of soup or a salad. I just wish it were cleaner. #vegan I went here for supper with work colleges. I didnt actually realize it was an all you can eat buffet and super overloaded by bowl the first time haha. The place is next to the mall in Cedar Falls so good location. The place is quite large. They were able to accomodate our group of 13 people. They do not take reservations and half your group must be present to start the seating. There are atleast 3 'bars' of food You grab a bowl and start with your base. I skipped the meat and went for the noodles. I had to ask which noodles were egg free and there are 2 choices. The next bar has all the veggies. Now I am not a huge fan of veggies so luckily there was TOFU. I wish it were fried tofu... but it is something. I only wish they had some other vegan options as far as toppings (yes besides the veggies haha). The next bar is sauces. There is a sign that offers suggestions for certain flavors but you can do whatever you like. The tip I was given is add extra sauce because alot of it will cook off. Then there are some oils and toppings. You then get in line around this massive stone-like stove where the cooks circle round, cooking the food, banging there utensils. It is loud and hot but neat experience. I got up twice for food but I was so full!!!!!! I want to go back again as there as some more options I want to try. It cost $16. I think it is a GREAT DEAL. Waitress was nice but I didnt get a chance to get another drink.... the water tastes nasty. Overall good experience and Im actually craving to go back! read more

Huhot is a fabulous restaurant. Pay for an all you can eat buffet filled with meat and vegetables. First, you pile up your choices of uncooked meat and raw vegetables and you can add different seasonings and oils on top. Take it over to the grill and the chefs will cook it for you. Everyone watches their expertise, and then they give you back your bowl. Off you go back to your table and they'll give you a bowl of rice. Go back as many times as you like. What I liked best about HuHot is that they have an allergy chart for the sauces. The chart indicates soy, peanut, wheat, and some other allergens in the sauces. I could figure out which sauces to use. Yeah! So, once I got to the grill, I told them I had a wheat allergy. The chef double cleaned a wider area for cooking, and then shouted "Allergy on the table." At this point all chefs made sure that their products did not leak over to the allergy free area. They also use clean spatulas to cook the food. By the time, you get your food, no one really knows who has the allergy or not. I don't really care if people do know that I am wheat allergic and thought it was great that they all took my allergy seriously. The wait staff was great about finding out if certain menu items had allergens. Everyone was fantastic! I had a great time. I was in Cedar Falls for the University of Northern Iowa job fair, and came here with a friend, and then later went there again alone. They don't have these on the West Coast. Too bad! The food is very good (and plenty of it) for the price. But the atmosphere and entertainment is poor compared to other HuHot's I have been to. Many of the others I have seen have had very energetic chefs who are engaged with the customers and sing "HuHot Songs" while they are grilling. At this location, it seems like all the chefs are struggling to stay awake and beat the heat of the grill-- very unenthusiastic and lacking of any emotion. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice place to go for lunch or a weekend dinner. But the experience could be a lot better. read more

We used to frequent to HuHot in Orlando back in the day, but after it closed and we didn't live anywhere that had one, I kinda forgot about this quirky Mongolian BBQ place...thankfully, we re-discovered it on this trip back to Iowa and had an enjoyable meal. For about $12 at dinner, you get unlimited trips to the grill + soup or salad. I like the sauces that allow you to make your own kind of pad thai. The grill cooks have great manners and they are efficient - they care! And the quality is great! Probably one of the worst wait service we've experienced. It took the waiter 20 minutes before he brought our drinks even after asking politely multiple times. When my husband told him we were getting thirsty he rolled his eyes like we were putting him out. He was too busy flirting with the girls two tables away to bother with us. He couldn't even bother to bring our bill and we eventually went up to the bar to pay. After our meal my husband went to the restroom and a man in there left without washing his hands, then saw him in the buffet line picking out his food. Just went to HuHot tonight to have a quality meal and spend time with friends. My friends and I ended up staying about an hour past closing, but the staff were very accommodating regardless and insisted on helping us enjoy our visit! Our waiter was David, and he was very helpful, always attending us throughout our visit and making sure we had anything we needed promptly. I very much hope David gets a raise! I absolutely loved the food and atmosphere at HuHot and will be coming back many times over in the future! :) read more

I went to one of these in another town like 6 years ago, couldn't believe how popular its gotten! We had a 15 minute wait! You go on a weekend expect to pay $10 per person and have a minor wait. Here's how to make this place work: do your first bowl small, to get the sauces right. Then either continue doing small bowls for different flavors or have your second bowl your main course.
