Went for lunch the other day. Stopped in on Keys Cafe & Bakery. I went with ge hot roast beef sandwich with mash potatoes. Old school best describes what I got. More than you can imagine for meat between 2 slices of gravy covered bread with a generous portion of gravy covered potatoes. Yes I ate all of it. Never waste a good meal. My server was pleasant and attentive, just the way it should be. I give them a 4 star. If you in Forest Lake MN. You have to go to Keys. Nancy had eggs Benedict with crispy hash browns. read more

Traveling up 35 and decided to give this place a go with a friend. It's turned out to be a lovely spot for lunch! There is plenty of free parking! And lots of surrounding businesses. The staff here were terrific! Very friendly and the waitress did a great job checking in! When it's time to pay, you will walk up and pay at the register. The vibes: This is where they lost a star. We were sat at a booth (yay!) But there was duct tape on the seat. It appears they could use a little upgrading. The decor in here is 90's at best but did have a "homey" feel to it. It was also clean! The food: The portions are generous here! The food options are similar to a Perkins or Bakers Square. I got the Alfredo and added broccoli. It was swimming in sauce, which I loved!! Extra to dip the garlic bread in! Very tasty!! At the end I purchased a brownie to take home to my boyfriend and he said it was REALLT good! Three of us stopped in for an early lunch. I started with a cup of turkey wild rice soup. It was great. I also enjoyed the Mom's meatloaf. It was really tasty and plenty of it. We also had a loon omelette that was very good. My wife had a "half and half " combo that consisted of a half Reuben sandwich with vegetable beef soup. That was also very good. Service was friendly but the kitchen getting food out took awhile. The Farmers Omelette was loaded with ham, shy on hashbrowns and cheese was completely forgotten. I didn't realize because the portion I ate, I had ordered a side of sausage gravy which was a little thick and lacked salt. The homemade sour dough bread was good. I took home most of the omelette and when I reheated was when I realized there was NO cheese. We also had the Cajun breakfast which was fine. Ordered two slices of pie to go. Coconut and blueberry, which were tasty but the edge of the crust was so thick, you couldn't cut it with a fork so was basically inedible. Disappointing meal to say the least. read more

Local, family owned (Hunn Family since 1973!) restaurant & part of the many Keys Cafes throughout the Twin Cities. This location is in the end of a strip mall, so there's plenty of parking. This Forest Lake locale also offers beer & wines to accompany your meals. You can't go wrong with one of their Eggs Benedict choices. but today I was in a warm soup & Reuben grilled sandwich. Loon omelette was not good. So much rice, dry and no flavor. Mushroom gravy atop was meh. It was also expensive at $22 with adding hashbrowns and they charged $1.50 for a little little extra gravy. Biscuits and gravy was probably the best dish. Biscuits were tender and gravy was good. Eggs benedict was fine. Nothing special. Hashbrowns overall were very greasy, tasted of margarine. This is the epitome of home-style food. I am not 100% sure, but I think I have eaten at every Keys in the twin cities finally after eating at the Forrest Lake location. This is one of those places where it's a bit hard to make a selection: does one want Breakfast or Lunch? The truth is you can't really go wrong. I go with breakfast most of the time, but their roast beef, turkey, and Meatloaf dinners are always awesome, and one better bring an appetite because you're gonna get a bunch of food. On the breakfast side the Italian hash is pretty good, as is any of their benedict options. If you are looking to satisfy your sweet tooth, there are a couple of options you can go here. get your savory breakfast, and then hit the bakery to take something with you, or you have the options of pancakes, waffles, and French toast....Cinnamon French toast is pretty solid. The pancake and pick 5 ingredients omelet were lacking. The pancake was not golden brown as a pancake should look and it was thin, a bit dried and not flavorful. The omelet was loaded with ham, green pepper, and onion and spinach, but was way too coated in clarified butter or buttery oil that killed flavor. I've had better food at Keys in WBL. I would normally have said something but did not and decided to post this review instead. WBL seems to be better and since this was my 2nd time in FL I will probably not go back to this location. This is based on the house cake---chocolate cake with a vanilla frosting. It is AMAZING! Usually cakes at restaurants have a chemical taste to them since they are massed produced. Not this cake! This cake tasted HOMEMADE. The cake was moist and the frosting had a hint of almond flavoring. So very good for only $5.50/slice. Friendly staff too. This is so good the food is good and there is a pretty big menu. And they even have happy hour.

Haven't been in a while. Was one of our favorite places. Today, we sat for 10 minutes waiting for our server. And when the server came she asked if "ya wanna eat??" Then we waited over 30 minutes for our food. The sandwich had "shards" of dried up dark meat Turkey only. Definitely a terrible sandwich for the price. So sad. And waiting in line to pay your bill while she multi- tasks. Another almost 10 minutes! We won't be back. read more

We stopped for breakfast as many have told us that Key's cafe is the best. It was our first visit here. The food was ok. The service was fine. The problem is the a la crate pricing and the newly added 3.7% for use of credit cards or debit cards. The 3.7% fee is being passed on to consumers abruptly at checkout and I don't feel like paying and extra fee for a business that I spent time, gas and energy bringing my family to. It makes about as much sense as it would for me to charge the business a fee for traveling to it. You could easily redo your menu pricing (and while your at it, reconsider charging $2.95 for a cup of coffee that cost about $.05 to make) This is the first restaurant I have ever been to that doesn't include coffee with their breakfast menu options. Anyway, know before you go. Keys cafe will cost you an additional 3.7% to eat there. read more

The food is always good at Keyes. The servers are generally friendly. The annoying part is the cashiers. They don't tell you about their surcharge on credit cards and that it includes debit cards which it should not. I called ahead on Thanksgiving to see if they had a pumpkin pie. They said they did and took my name to reserve it so it was already packaged when I arrived. At dinner later that day we discovered they had given me a pecan pie. Very disappointed. Service was very good, and ambiance is fine! We have been coming up to Minnesota for many years and on occasion stopping to eat at keys! But although you get plenty of food for a meal it has changed, I had Walleye, grilled mashed potatoes and green beans instead of broccoli. The walleye wasn't grilled very long and was tasteless, and the green beans weren't drained, consequently my fish was flooded with water from the beans and just ruined the fish that needed more grilling. Went on July 5th. Wanted to eat in Lindstrom but most of the sit down places were closed. Hostess said 30 min wait but we were seated in 15 minutes. Only 4 waitresses for the whole place! Hostess brought us coffee and water in the rare moment she wasn't taking reservations or seating someone. Our waitress scored me the last Pecan roll for me!! The Loon omelet never disappoints. Even though it was busy and short staffed our coffee cups were never empty and the staff did ot make us feel rushed. We saw great teamwork between the staff. Being new to Minnesota, I was looking forward to going to a restaurant when they opened back up for indoor dining. I'd never been to a Keys Cafe & Bakery before, but my husband said he enjoyed some food he was getting at work from this location, so I was excited to try it out. It didn't disappoint. It reminded me of my favorite breakfast place in Illinois. It has a wonderful mom & pop feel. The waitress we had was so kind and attentive. She made you feel very welcomed. I didn't realize that you pay at the cash register when it was time to leave. One of the kids working there was observant and saw us sitting after our meal and directed us to the cash register. I was so impressed by the whole experience. The food was good and served to us extremely fast. If you're looking for a good family-style, home cooked meal in a welcoming, friendly atmosphere then this seems like the place to go. A lot of places aren't great at this, but the kitchen did great on these. Steak was medium-rare, as ordered. Coffee cups kept full. Bill provided quickly upon request. Y UM Y U M Y U M M Y PASTRIES This is a busy, happening, newer restaurant located in a strip mall. They seem to be very good at burn and turn. The menu is ginormous, but it was easy to decide which breakfast to have. It wasn't super busy there even though it was an early Saturday morning, and we got our food really fast. However, I can't figure out why my scrambled eggs were so cold when we got the food so fast? Since it was a business meeting, I just smiled and ate them cold and didn't complain. Otherwise I would have returned them. :-) The Christmas decorations were still up and they were absolutely adorable. Someone had taken a lot of time to pick out really nice items and strategically place them. A real homey touch. Really really cute! On the way out, I spy a pecan pie in the bakery window. I never did get a pecan pie for Christmas, so I thought, here's my chance. I don't make pecan pies, I always try to find a great bakery that has a great pecan pie. I will never be able to make one as good as my Auntie Natalie did with pecans right off her neighbor's tree in Phoenix Arizona. Just for the record, I do make Pecan Danties and I won the purple ribbon at our County Fair in Utah for them, 2 years in a row :-). Boy were the other ladies mad! First just let me say I love Keys. I been there many times and will continue to go there. Also, I personally like the social distancing rules some restaurants have in place. When I don't feel like the people at the next table are listening to my conversation I feel much more comfortable. Now about this visit to Keys. The food was good as it usually is. I enjoyed my Italian Hash with eggs thoroughly. Keys may be the only place I go that I don't dip my toast in the egg yolks. The jam is just too good to pass up. Service was meh. I was extremely thirsty and our waitress didn't stop back once to see if we wanted refills on our drinks. A lil disappointing. A couple things before this review goes live. I get it. It's a business trying to make money. But there were elderly people walking around without masks. One waitress wore a mask that more resembled a splash shield, or a sneeze guard like you see at Subway. Another elderly lady was coughing like her lung had chosen to exit her body. Thankfully into a mask. Then the ultimate was when the super spread came in with his "Sturgis 2020" jest on came in. Sat at a table near to ours and knuckle bumped his lady friend as soon as they sat down. I promptly put my mask on, told my wife to do the same, and asked for our check. Now each table had hand sanitizer bottles on them. So if you're showing me that your business is taking sanitation seriously by doing that, then why aren't you doing the other things to make sure EVERYONE is safe? Why are people, including your wait staff walking around without proper masks? Again. A lil disappointing. P.S. Please cleanup under your tables.
