We went to Famous Dave's for dinner after reading reviews. We arrived at 6:30 on a week day and did not have to wait. We noticed they have a large waiting area so it may get crowded on summer weekends. We settled into a large table for 6 in a rustic log dining room with lots of space. The table service was quick and friendly. They brought an appetizer tray quickly so we could munch on various meats while waiting for our main dinners. Drinks were also served quickly. I had their beef brisket. It was so tender it fell off my fork. My friends also enjoyed their choices. My only complaint was when I asked for a Caesar salad as a side instead of their usual sides. The kitchen couldn't handle that change so I was served a separate Caesar salad (a menu item) instead of as a side. Their food is served on tin trays rather than large plates. I ended up with 2 of their tin trays, one for the salad. But my table did not really have room for 2 of their trays so I had to set the salad away while eating the brisket. As for quality, I won't bore you with details but lets say that Famous Dave is a meat place, not a salad place. Don't order their Caesar salad. Get all their meat items and their usual sides. We had a good time and their BBQ meats were perfection. Service was friendly and fast. Famous Dave's is a great place for anyone on a low carb diet. I'm not sure if a vegetarian should go there. What it has going for it: - nice big tables - plenty of parking - good location - food was consistent with other Famous Dave's - food was out relatively quick - no line to get a seat (Thursday during lunch hour) What it has going against it: - prices are inching up So we have been to other Famous Dave's on the east coast. Every time a new BBQ joint opens up and after we try their food I always compare what I just ate to what I get at Famous Dave's. It's the benchmark for me. All the food is never dry or overcooked consistently every time we eat there. The only negative I could find is the pricing has increased for the full slab of ribs.... but they are still worth it to me. Looking for good BBQ, this is the place. It had one handful of lettuce with mostly lettuce ends. $10! My friend had the shrimp and fries. It was bland and the not a good meal. $6.50 for the tall beer and $5.25 for a pint. Although we like dining in at Dave's in Kalispell, we often like to order a take-out. Today, we wanted to do this for our guests and just relax at home. I called 4 times and the phone was picked up and laid down each time. No one ever picked up the phone to take my order--ever! I could hear people yelling , yes, yelling, in the background. I ordered a baked potato with barbecue chicken, I got less than a tablespoon of chicken that was crunchy and hard and cold. We arrived after flying all day from Portland and were really hungry. It was just after 8:00 pm and all the outside lights were off so I went up to the door to check their hours. Yelp and the sign on the door both said open until 10:00 pm. The door was open so I checked with the hostess and she said they were open. I told her their lights were off and went to tell my wife to come in. When we walked back in the door the hostess informed us that they just told her they were closed but didn't tell her why. I did a BONE HEAD thing today.....I ordered a LARGE ($140+) to-go order. Mackenzie Bolster took my call, answered my multiple questions, reviewed the order for accuracy and was overall very knowledgeable and super friendly. When I went to pick up the order.....the folks behind the counter seemed puzzled. I live in MISSOULA and called this KALISPELL store!!! I thought my phone and Google search would default to the nearest location, but clearly it did NOT. Nor did I bother to check the address, shame on me. The Missoula location quickly re-fired my order, but then I had to call this store to apologize. I offered to pay in full, but they refused to take my funds. I talked to Mackenzie again who did NOT make me feel stupid and was more than gracious and understanding. I will go out of my way to visit this store in the future and give them a solid 10 in terms of customer service. BRAVO!!! And of course, the grub was excellent. Kudos all around. We sat at the bar. Staff was friendly we ordered a Guinness. Came from Co2 not nitro in a warm glass because their refrigerator doesnt work to chill the glasses. Today was my first time to this place because well...I'm not a Montanan, and my brother-in-law wanted to take me here to try this place out. The staff is friendly but the service can be a bit slow. From what my sis and BIL said, we pretty much placed the order right when the waiter came to avoid waiting over 20 minutes to see a server and getting our food. We ordered the combo platter for two that consists of grilled chicken, half a rack of ribs, potato wedges, corn, cornbread, beef brisket, beans, a slice of bread, and coleslaw. Because there were four of us, we ordered an extra full rack of baby back ribs that came with garlic mashed potatoes and Mac & cheese. The coleslaw and corn were pretty good in addition to the brisket. I can't say the same about the rest. -Slice of bread -soggy -Beans-can't say since I don't like eating beans, but my BIL likes it. -Corn-can't go wrong with corn...then again I like grilled corn -Ribs (2 types)- hard and dry. If you want off the bone ribs, this is not the place for you. You will need to work a bit to get those meat off the bones. I love the places in Cali better; however, I love the restaurant in Columbia Falls way better!! They have good ribs and awesome fried bread. I rather take that 15-20 minutes drive to Columbia Falls just to pick the ribs up, which I do every time I come here to visit my sister. -Garlic mashed potatoes- hmm it's so bland that you can't even taste the garlic! -Mac & cheese - blah that's all I can say. My niece and nephew pretty much refused to eat it. -corn bread- a bit too dry -chicken- it's...okay. If it's a little bit more moist than it would be better. I guess you can say I am not a fan. Famous Dave's is a nice family spot that gives you this hoedown feel. Our waiter Lance was very professional which is strange to me cause I know him personally and he's a weird fella. The pull pork was a little dry but I sauced it like Lil Uzi Vert with Dave's "special sauce". Besides hearing how's it going cowboy when people enter the vibes were amazing. The Mac and cheese was creamier than my poops after Taco Bell. Corn bread was dry and gritty like talking to a girl that obviously doesn't like you. Last time I was here it was a year ago and food was way better than I had in Washington. I got more in my portion than normal. My family always gets the family feast for 2-3. (It was more like 3-4) This trip to Dave's not impressed not a lot of people in the restaurant and Later it filled in. I had a hole in my glass dumping water everywhere. Asked a server to exchange it and she just looked, gave me an okay and proceeded to walk back to the front to seat another group. So disappointed. Wait time 40 minutes. Actually 60 minutes after they let several in in front of us. Not organized at all. Wouldn't let us go to bar to get drinks but let others. Always excuses. We got food two hours later and breed brisket was actually burnt ends or shredded beef. $12 for a few pieces of burnt ends and flavorless Mac and cheese. Only thing good was the potato wedges. Of course I know this is not the corner BBQ stand ran by family, but sometimes you find yourself here. My husband had a BBQ jones on and he is the last person I thought would come in here. Service was fine and the food seemed a little off compared to what I have experienced at Dave's. Some of it was on the cooler side and I just was not feeling it. We split the giant garbage can lid for two, and boxed more than half of that. I am not sure why they gave us a compartment box for slaw and beans that were going to run loose the minute we closed the lid on them. I told my husband to ask for a small container for his BBQ sauce, but he just didn't and by the time that hot mess got back to the room it was like BBQ Armageddon. First, let me state that , I'm from the South, so I know 1st hand how BBQ is supposed to taste. With that in mind, you can take with a grain of salt my statement of, this is not how BBQ tastes back home in the Great State of Louisiana. However, we are not in The Great State of Louisiana, we are in Montana and Montana restaurants have a bad habit of "dumbing" food down to suite the taste of Montanans. That taste being that of bland. Fortunately for all of us, it hasn't dumbed down too much, like most flavorful food, because I have to say it isn't half bad. I've ordered quite a few things off the menu, and while it isn't Louisiana good, it's pretty darn good...good enough to keep me going back. We ordered carry out from Famous Dave's last night as we're in a hotel here in Kalispell. I ordered the loaded baked potato. The potato itself was fine with a nice buttered and salted skin, but the "loaded" part was pathetic! I asked for no bacon. The 1/2 cup plastic container had butter, grated cheddar and about a tablespoon of sour cream. It was enough to barely "load" half of the potato. Plus they were out of their muffins which are always a favorite. No attempt was made to offer me another side or to reduce the cost of the meal. The coleslaw was delicious as usual, but the container was half full, not filled as it had been on other visits. My husband LOVES their burnt ends appetizer so my 3 rating reflects that and the deliciousness of the nonexistent corn muffin and the flavor of the skimpy coleslaw. We ordered a rib combo to share, which was really good, and cooked perfect. We also order a side of brisket that was fork tender and very tasty. We almost ate it all except for a few ribs that came home with us for a later snack. The one thing is that the service was really slow. It was a LONG day traveling and I was hungry. I have eaten at Dave's Famous in other locations. This was exceptional. I had a combo plate of Baby Backs and Burnt Ends. Wow. Moist and succulent. Well seasoned ends full of flavor. The onion pickle was a great accompaniment. Ribs were just right. Slight caramalisation and smoke ring made these so tasty. As was the Going to the Sun IPA. (20 tap beers to select from.) I ordered the fries and they were crispy with no grease. Easy dish to mess up. These were perfection. Beans were ok. Great service and they open till 11 pm.
