We went to Mackenzie river because I saw the lodgepoles online and was craving it hard core. They did not disappoint. I got some more to go. I also got the Steak Frites with cowboy butter. So so good, but I drank tons of water after lol sodium We also got the huckleberry flatbread I thought it was tasty. Needed more huckleberry. My aunt didn't like her meatloaf and potatoes I had huckleberry sangria that was good too. Service was decent. It wasn't too loud inside and felt clean. I enjoyed the birch trees. read more

My friend calls this her place where she takes everyone when parties can't decide what they want. Makes sense, the menu is huge and seems to be something for everyone! We came here twice while I was visiting, love the atmosphere and food. Service though was not the greatest, we seemed to get attention at first but then eventually it became what I call "I just want to give you money". Server stopped coming by both times (different females) and just made the experience drag. Food was great! It's not easy finding a good meal after 9pm in Whitefish and Kalispell, but McKenzie's stays open till 10pm! Godsend if you're working late like I was during my work trip. Friendly staff kindly seated the five of us at 9:15pm, near the bar area. Bartender did double duty as our server, nice guy! Cocktails here are tasty and about 2/3rds the price of what you'll pay in my hometown of California...my Huckleberry Lemon Drop was fabulous! Large Cobb Salad $16...I was watching my figure due to my work trip, but this salad was huge! Loaded with lots of chicken, avocado, crispy bacon, hard-boiled eggs, tomatoes & crumbled bleu cheese all on top of some decent lettuce. This was not a very comfortable dining experience. The tables are some of the smallest I've seen. There were four of us; two adults and two children (7 &13) and even without ordering an appetizer, the table felt overcrowded. Once our plates and drinks arrived, there was barely any room left, even for silverware. Because of that, I wouldn't choose to dine in again. The food, however, was good overall. We ordered the chicken Alfredo, and the chicken was cooked perfectly with delicious seasoning and sauce. The kids' pizza portion was quite large! We got a cheese pizza, and my son really enjoyed it, especially with the side salad topped with pieces of pear. We also tried the thin crust cheese pizza, which was good, and a Philly cheesesteak. Just finished eating at this spot and had to write this review because this restaurant is AMAZING! My server was incredibly kind and attentive; the service was perfect and welcoming. I had the grizzly burger and huckleberry ice cream. Oh my god you cannot go wrong with huckleberry ice cream anywhere in Montana but MacKenzie was top tier. Super clean inside and good atmosphere. The Greek salad with chicken was large and delicious! Chicken was a tad dry. The Caesar salad with chicken was smaller and a little wilted. Not nearly as good. The flourless chocolate cake wasn't really a cake - more like a dense mousse. Flavor was excellent and it felt rich to eat, but was the dessert with the fewest calories. If I could give this place 0 stars... I would. We arrived late at night, hungry after a long day of hiking. The hostess ignored us standing there for a LONG minute until we actually asked if we could have a table for 2. She then snapped into action and got us to a table. We were seated near the bar. It was darkly lit and surrounded by TV's... typical sports bar vibe. I ordered a spicey chicken sandwich which when arrived was literally a flat piece of bland chicken on a soggy bun with a couple pieces of pineapple on top. My husband ordered a bison burger, medium rare. When he went to cut into it it was literally so tough that it sent his knife flying across the restaurant. Upon further inspection, it was not only well done but burnt. We sent it back and the server said she would get another one to us as soon as possible. When the remake arrived... it was well done again. At this point we had been sitting at the restaurant about an hour. I had eaten my (disappointing) chicken sandwich alone and my husband was just done with the whole ordeal and wanted to leave hungry. After sending his burger back again, he informed the waitress he wasn't willing to pay for his meal. She did take it off the bill. As we were going to pay for my sandwich, someone sidled up to our table and only said "Hi." Now, he was wearing a uniform but it was pretty weird. My husband was like "um, what's up, how can we help you?" Which then prompted him to say he was sent by our sever because "we wanted to speak to a manager." Which we never actually asked to do... but he could have introduced himself. We explained the situation and he did apologize... about a hundred awkward times. The apology was a great start, but not an actual solution. The solution only came several minutes later when my husband brought up that the whole meal should be comped. Brought my wife and the kids to Mackenzie River after church. We ordered wings, frites, pasta, a burger and a cheese pizza! Everything was delicious. It was pretty busy but only had to wait 15 minutes. The waitress was awesome! Even though it was super busy she was able to provide excellent service. I had the frites and they were delicious. Was in town for business decided to walk to somewhere nearby to grab dinner. First place i stopped at didn't take AMEX so on to the next spot and here i landed at MacKenzie River Pizza. I had a seat at the bar and it was a popping place. I would say 75% of the bar stools were taken so that has to be a good sign. I ordered an amber ale and a bison burger with fries. I was a little concerned because the bartender didn't ask how I wanted my burger cooked so I expected well done instead of medium like I prefer. Burger came out medium well so that wasn't to bad but the fries were cold. Like they had been setting under a heat lamp for a long period of time. The burger was juicy and the huckleberry-jalepeno BBQ sauce had a nice little sweetness then a little heat at the end. Nothing crazy but pleasant. Bacon was nice thick and crispy as well. This is one of our family's goto spots for dinner. There is something everyone enjoys. The atmosphere is pretty good. We've gone at some busy times and haven't had much of a wait. We do go either a little before or after six just to avoid the rush. The food is tasty. Not all Mackenzie's have a full menu but this one has the full menu. We love this place so much we ate here twice for lunch in 3 days! Hands down the baked ziti was my favorite dish, their pasta overall is just to die for. The flavors are just perfect and I'm salivating thinking about it. Our Uber driver from the airport mentioned how good their pasta was so we had to try it :) I also had a Cobb salad w/ ranch and loved it as well. I would highly suggest the restaurant putting the small salad in a little bit wider of a bowl. Its extremely hard to mix up without getting salad everywhere lol. The only reason I gave this place 4 stars is... Service is subpar: I totally understand places are still recovering from Covid but our waitress rolled her eyes when I asked for a beer flight... I know flights are a pain in the ass but come on I tip well, I'm not a jerk, and I smile a lot. No need for the annoyance :). Some of our requests for condiments or drink refills were never brought and I had to go to the bar for additional plates bc our waitress disappeared after our food was delivered. My moms pasta she ordered was forgotten to be rung in (admitted by the waitress) so we ate our food and 15 mins later my mom finally got our pasta. But, the pasta was worth it so like I said... Ugh. I went in for a late lunch at 3:00 pm. Nathan was my server and It took a while for him to come to the table. I placed an order for soup and salad. 20 minutes later I asked him if he could bring me my soup. "Oh Yea" I get. The Mediterranean Vegetable Soup and Salad come. The soup had maybe 5 beans in it, the rest was broth. Took another 10 minutes to get his attention to ask if the soup should have more vegetables in it. By this time I just wanted him to take the soup back when we finally talked about it. The salad was good (I ordered a small salad as I thought I was having soup.) Asked for the check, it was $12.50. I paid in cash with a $20 and he asked me if I wanted change. REALLY? A 60% tip for that? $8.00 change was provided ("I don't keep change he said." So as a result, I left $2.00, not $2.50 for a tip. Wanted to try a local place. Thinking the Chic-FilA across the street would have been far more reliable and quick for soup and salad. An hour start to finish. UGH! read more

This is a great place in Kalispell. Came for dinner one night while staying in Somers, MT. We sat at the bar and the two guys behind the bar were awesome. They were attentive and told you exactly what they thought of their cocktails and offer sample of The beer. We decided on the Hot Hawaiian pizza with a small house salad. The salad came first and was the perfect size for 2. It was fresh with a variety of ingredients. The blue cheese dressing was homemade, rich, and plenty of chunks. Now the pizza was outstanding. We got the original crust which was thinner on the bottom with a raised puffed crust. Just the right crispness with a softer center. To me it was perfection. The bbq sauce with the jalapeños and spicy sausage and pineapple was heavenly. So so good. The bar scene was lively, local, and very friendly. We had great service and food when we visited on a Thursday for lunch. The place has fun ambiance and a very large menu. We had a huckleberry ricotta flatbread with caramelized onions ($10). It was a great mix of flavors. We also had a small southwest chicken salad. It was made with fresh mixed greens and grilled chicken. The food is a great value for the portion and quality served. Five stars because over many years (probably almost ten years now!), it has become a default spot to eat for us! Lots of variety--pizza, pasta, salads, a few taco options, and chilli. We have had one bad experience (Mediocre fish tacos) in our many years going here, but I don't think that's enough to put a dent in the five stars.
