To the Management and Staff at Famous Dave's in Westland, Michigan, I wanted to take a moment to recognize the incredible staff who were working the evening of my visit yesterday. This is not a complaint--in fact, it's the complete opposite. It's a heartfelt thank you. I had ordered a Feast for Two as a birthday dinner for my husband, with a pickup time of 8:45 p.m. On my way to the restaurant, a severe storm rolled through. I tried calling several times but couldn't get through. When I arrived, I discovered the power had gone out. I know situations like that can be incredibly stressful for a restaurant. Customers are disappointed, phones are ringing, and everyone is trying to figure out what to do. Through all of that, your staff remained calm, kind, professional, and genuinely compassionate. They checked to see whether my meal had been completed, explained that the power had only gone out a few minutes earlier, and apologized even though the situation was completely out of their control. They took my name and phone number, assured me my refund would be processed once the power returned, and even offered to remake the meal the following day if I wanted. When I explained that it was my husband's birthday and that, unfortunately, this was the second birthday celebration that had gone sideways, they truly cared. They wished him a happy birthday over the phone and even offered us pie to help celebrate. That simple act of kindness meant more than they probably realize. I've eaten at many restaurants over the years, and when unexpected situations happen, it's often the attitude of the staff that determines the experience. Your team's attitude was outstanding. They were patient, empathetic, and treated every customer with respect despite the difficult circumstances. I'm a very easygoing person, and I understand that Mother Nature doesn't check with restaurants before ruining dinner plans. We ended up finding another place to grab takeout and still enjoyed some wonderful pie for dessert. In the end, we were reminded that birthdays aren't really about the food--they're about spending time with the people you love. Because of the way your staff handled this situation, I will absolutely be back. I don't even live close to your restaurant, but you've earned a loyal customer. I'll gladly recommend the Westland Famous Dave's to anyone looking for not only great barbecue, but exceptional customer service from people who truly care. Please pass along my sincere appreciation to everyone who worked that evening. They deserve recognition for the grace, professionalism, and kindness they showed during a situation they couldn't control. This is my first visit to any Famous Dave's location. While I generally avoid chain restaurants, this visit was chosen by a friend and it was better than OK (3-Stars). I ordered the 2+1 lunch special; smoked sausage, St. Louis ribs and Wilbur beans. A cornbread muffin is included. Everything was served hot, thank you very much. The smoked sausage is very flavorful and cheesy. The ribs were not fall-off-the-bone tender, but were sufficiently tender. The Wilbur beans rock and included a bit of fatty pork. The cornbread muffin is sweet and the cornmeal is a very fine grind - I prefer a coarse(r) grind. Service is reasonably and knowledgeable. No complaints. Why not 5-Stars? I REALLY prefer my ribs to be fall-off-the-bone tender. The venue is BBQ Rural chic. Appropriate. Predictable. Will I return? Perhaps. I avoid chain restaurants and this is yet another mega chain that has not (yet?) been ruined by the usual private equity vultures (Roark, Blackrock, Vanguard, etc) read more

Let me start off by saying I come to this Famous Dave's every 2 Weeks. Never ever had a Bad Experience, except this time. The Crazy part is the Manager took my Order. Ordered a Big Slab Rib Meal. Center-Cut extra $6 dollars. Sides Wilbur Beans and Mac & Cheese. Then ordered a 1/2 Pound of Brisket with Coleslaw & Fries. I come here every 2 Weeks like Clockwork, so the Lady that usually helps me knows my order, which the Manager told her back up I got it. Upon looking at my Bill the Manager Ala Carted the Sides on the Brisket instead of making it a Meal. So I was overcharged. 2nd- I like all my meats to be Cooked a little longer with the Grill marks. Manager tells me I got it, because the young Lady working knows how I like it. Brisket looks Rare, Mac & Cheese bone dry. Ribs no char. It's like she did it on purpose. Food Undercooked, Underwhelmed & Overcharged, and who do I complain to, I guess Corporate, because the Manager was the Problem. Please see pictures of Food. The food was absolutely great! Phyllis was a phenomenal server!! Very attentive and made sure we had everything we requested.

I spent $1000 on ribs, chicken, brisket, beans, and mac & cheese. The ribs were dry and uncut. The brisket was dry. The mac & cheese wasn't cooked enough. All of it was thrown together carelessly. The three previous years were so much better than this year. I've wasted $1000! Never again! I will never order from famous Dave's barbecue ever again!!! On top of it all they wouldn't take my check when originally placing the order even though they had two weeks for it to clear, but they will take business checks. I had to come back the next day with cash. This place has gone downhill rapidly. The food was absolutely substandard in every way. I rarely go to sit down restaurants. Service has gone downhill and tipping has gotten out of control in some areas. But our server Jenn, was amazing. Her service is worth the 20%+ tip. When I tell you Jenn was one of the best waitresses I've come across in a very long time!!! You can tell she loves her job and ppl!!! The mgr was super friendly and an asset to their company. The food was ok, but I was disappointed in the portion size. Ordered the 2 meat combo with fried chicken and brisket. Brisket (to me) tasted processed. This was my first time having it here. The other times I had brisket it was from a smokehouse or authentic bbq place so I thought it would be good, but it wasn't. Recently, the company I work for decided to have Famous Dave's cater our annual Christmas party. We had BBQ chicken, and ribs that were very delicious and tasted great. Likewise, the mac & cheese, and mashed potatoes were fantastic, and had some serious flavor. The catering team arrived on-time, set everything up in the conference room. They provided us with some great extras, including several bottles of "Sweet Baby Ray's" BBQ sauce in different flavors. All-in-all, we had a great time. In the future, if you're looking at having your company event catered, the staff at this Famous Dave's will make it happen. read more

Famous Dave never contacted me about the dried out rib tips they put in my carry out order and I paid extra for white meat chicken and they gave me thighs instead of breast that I spent $60 plus I used my $10 rewards. It's been 2 weeks and not a peep like they are the only BBQ place. They give carry out orders their burnt, dried out and scraps. Then when you complain they tell you to go to their website with issues and they don't even reply. Spend your money elsewhere because they don't care what they serve their customers. I want to give zero stars because Famous Dave's has really gone down in food and service over the last few years! read more

I haven't been back to visit Famous Dave's Bar-B-Que in 10+ years so I recently had lunch here with a longtime friend. Since it is a standalone building, the restaurant has their own private parking lot which always has plenty of open spaces. The dining area consisted of two separate wings for seating, but only one was open when we came. The interior décor was on the gaudy side with their list of awards and trophies hanging prominently on the walls. Despite the pandemic, for some reason the host decided to seat us at a booth adjacent to another party when there were plenty of open tables elsewhere. The two-sided menu offered plenty of choices including non-barbecue fare like sandwiches, salads, and burgers. The combinations were the best deal so my pick was a two-meat combo that came with two sides. My selections were Texas Beef Brisket, Hot Link Sausage, Garlic Red-Skin Mashed Potatoes, and Sweet Corn. When my food came out, I was surprised to see BBQ Chicken instead of brisket. I asked the waitress what happened, and she said she heard me say barbecue chicken which was what she wrote down on the order slip. Even my friend confirmed that I had requested brisket so to have chicken served on my platter was a faux pas by her. The spicy sausage did not resemble what I have sampled down in Texas hill country as it was closer to a bratwurst. The sweet corn came as two cob pieces which was also unexpected as I had thought they would be kernels in a small dish. The flavors in the meat were alright, but with the ordering mistake that was made, and the other areas that did not meet my expectations, the most I could award was three stars for the dining experience. read more
