We used to frequent this restaurant when it was on Wayne at Avondale. Being from California, it was the closest thing to what I was used to from my old state. Food was always fresh, employees were always very friendly, and we loved them!! Then we saw that there was a fire, and just like that, our favorite restaurant was no more. We heard they finally reopened on Ford road, and we've been looking forward to trying them again. Sadly, it took us until yesterday. As always, we were greeted by a smiling face! The menu was just like it was before with a few new items. My Fiancé got her go to Taco Salad, I got my go to Carne Asada Burrito, and I couldn't leave without my absolute favorite, lengua tacos!! We also got an apple empanada as well. Everything was just a we remembered, maybe even better than before. Watching them make the tortillas from scratch is a huge plus! Our meals were decadent! The new owners are not newcomers to the restaurant business. When the original Taqueria Alameda had a fire, they took a few years off before buying this place and starting over, but with the same staff and menu. Service could not have been better on our visit tonight, with our waitress being so cheerful, friendly, and helpful that we'd come back again just to be waited on by her regardless of the food. Thankfully the food was wonderful. I highly recommend their al pastor which you can get the regular way or with extra grilled pineapple. I opted for one of each to compare, and they're both fantastic, with the latter being my top pick because I love the flavor of grilled pineapple. My husband got chicken enchiladas with green sauce. The cheese on top is delicious and the sauce brought most of the flavor to the chicken, which was cooked well and moist but a little plain tasting. He said he'd ask for chicken tinga or beef next time. Their salsas are tasty, with the smokiness of the spicy chipotle salsa and excellent flavor and kick to the green jalapeno salsa being great choices for those who like spicy food, and their regular salsa a delicious choice for the less adventurous. Turning into the driveway is tricky if you're heading west on Ford, so if traffic is heavy, to avoid a potential accident turning there you may want to go past and turn around. I was so happy to see this place had finally reopened and I found it by accident. Apparently the old place (different location) had a fire and they had been closed for a long time. One day I drove by on my way to work and couldn't believe this was the same place. I read some reviews to make sure it was the same place and then ordered some carry out to make sure the food was still the best Mexican around. The guacamole is always fresh and seasoned perfect. I also ordered a Gordita which was my all time favorite, a beef taco and a steak quesadillas for my husband. Everything was so good we ordered again the following weekend the same order except we tried the fried quesadillas instead of flour tortillas and liked that just as much of not better. It's a cute little place with good service we just usually like to do carry out but either way you'll thoroughly enjoy it. read more

My wife and I have been regulars since before the fire in their original (I think) Wayne Road location. We were so excited that they came back, now in the Ford Road building. The food is always so good, and the service is friendly. I really enjoy their Mexican-style tacos with the hot brown sauce. I also had the barbacoa dish, and that was great, too. I'm a little on the fence with this review so I'm going to itemize what we ordered and review each separately. First was the service that started before we even entered. The bldg is listed as wheelchair accessible and it is - in part. There is no ramp into the front or back door. You have to maneuver the chair up a curb and then awkward turning into the door. (This doesn't seem like much but as a person in a chair it was a bit scary) The waitress saw us beforehand and rushed to hold open the doors which was nice. Staff was incredibly nice to everyone in the place. It was super clean inside. We ordered an Acqua Fresca and a water. Drinks arrived with a small basket of chips and multiple salsas. The chips were not house made but a bag of el Milagro sat behind the counter. They were fresh. The salsas were great. We ordered the watermelon acqua fresca and they were out so we got mango instead. Was really refreshing on such a hot day and such a nice change from Water, Tea or pop. Ordered Chix tacos, Barbaracoa tacos, cheese enchilada, rice, beans, large Guac and a rice pudding empanada. The meat in both tacos was plentiful but extremely dry. The barbaracoa looked as if it was a few days old and came in huge chunks as opposed to shredded making it difficult to chew. Rice and beans were unremarkable. Neither good or bad. They were pretty much the same you'll get anywhere. Cheese enchilada was loaded with chicken. Sent it back and I got a replacement that really was not good. Guacamole was chock full of fresh onion and cilantro. Very little avocado. Unlike any I've had and surprisingly delicious. It wasn't brought until our entree's arrived and we were out of chips. The rice pudding arrived flash fried in a flour tortilla with cinnamon. It was both chilled and warm. A welcome finish. This is my first time at their new location. I am giving them 4Stars because what was good was really Good and what wasn't so good could have just been an off day. Service and Friendliness of staff. This was the old Taco Macho, just wasn't that good. Bright beautiful dining room, fast friendly service with a smile. I found that owners from Mexico City has Pambozo that was the clue. She's had a mega Chicken Botona spot on wonderful . I seen a photo from a couple days ago on the Facebook page, that's what got me in the door. Absolutely blown away by the very best ever Eaten Asada Chilaquiles Rojos is a traditional Mexican breakfast recipe featuring crispy fried tortillas that are tossed in a homemade spicy red chile sauce. A explosion of flavor in each bite OMG where have you been all my life. Topped with 2 Eggs I drizzled with Salsa Verde and Smoked Red Salsa for the win . Could only eat half leftovers were great too. I knew this was going to be a good experience when they answered the phone and spoke clear engles and were extremely patient as my order changed over and over again because I didn't know what to get lol I just want to say thanks to the hubby for finding this place! This is the definition of a hole in the wall, that you MUST try. They are only open for takeout and you should definitely call and order ahead of time- otherwise expect a 20-25 minute wait time. Many of their menu items are fairly priced and they deliver on quality and taste. They also have a mini Mexican market to buy your own ingredients and have a friendly staff. They offer both Mexican and American style tacos. This nifty place is perfect for a snack or even a whole meal when craving authentic Mexican cuisine. What I ordered: 5 Mexican style tacos- 3 asada, 1 lamb, and 1 chicken (as pictured). The asada was my favorite, the lamb was good but contained a lot of fat, and chicken was ok. I asked for spicy salsa as well. Their nachos are loaded with meat but they seem to miss other popular items that typically are paired with nachos such as lettuce, jalapeños, and pico de Gallo. This is my FAVORITE restaurant...I have been through many "loyalty" punch cards, and will go through many more. The food is exceptional and the staff is great (shout out to Melissa). I finally made it over here with my husband. I had promised to save this one for a time when he could come with me so it took a minute as he works teh crazy hours. I really liked the tacos in here. I had some of my standby Al Pastor and of course I had to sample some of the cabeza, which indeed was the best version I have had. If you have not yet delved into this taste sensation I have to urge you to give it a whirl here at least. If you do not like it here then it is not the thing for you anywhere. Such richness. James got the taco combo and I ended up stealing his beans. I did not feel guilty a bit as they are not his thing. He has no clue what he is missing really. He enjoyed his rice at least. I like the atmosphere here, friendly and fun. Definitely like you are in someone's kitchen, you are nearly tempted to ask to pitch in and help. It's that kind of authentic. James likes the grocery items a lot and had fun browsing while we waited and after we were done. We also plotted what we will try on the next trip, a great sign for my husband that he really did like it. This is strictly standard behavior from me though, I am always thinking a meal ahead. When I walked in the door I thought there was some kind of mistake. It looks like a cross between someone's kitchen and the tiniest corner party store that you've ever seen. They have about 5 tables and a small aisle of good looking groceries. My wife didn't see any egg dishes on the menu and asked if they made eggs with cactus. They had both a lunch and dinner version. I had carnitas and ground beef tacos. EVERYTHING was great. None of the tacos were dripping in fat; they tasted great; the tortillas were superb. They also brought out some chips directly from the fryer. All the flavors were distinct and clean - tacos came with cliantro and lime, just how I like them. I was asked if I wanted the $1.49 tacos or the $1.99 tacos. The difference was a 4" or 5" tortilla. I got the larger ones and they were worth every penny of it. I was stuffed at 3 tacos. Sigh.... I feel dirty. Not only have I officially become a Janelle W. groupy, but after her last review, I feel like I just had dirty seconds. Taqueria Alameda does have wonderful cabeza, which is beef head, which really should be identified as beef cheek. It is a wonderfully buttery and tender cut which this Taqueria does very very well. My dining partner who grew up in L.A. boldly stated it was definitively the best he has ever had. Personally, I felt that the meat by itself was a bit under seasoned, but a splash of salsa and a dash of salt will remedy that quickly. In addition to the Cabeza, I had the Al Pastor, and the Carnitas. Both were generous and good, but I did like the flavors a hair better at my regular haunts near Mexican town. I do appreciate that these tacos felt very homey and comfortable, like a Mexican grandma was making these just for you. This is accented by the fact that it takes a bit of time for the food to get to you, which really attests to the fact that they are making these items from scratch and with care. We drove in town and was looking for a quick bite and stopped here based on Yelp reviews. This is the figuratively "Hole in the Wall" type place. It appears to be family run which, IMO, is a plus. It's a very small restaurant in fact it's so small if you need to use the bathroom then you, literally, walk through the kitchen, which is a negative. They lost a star for that. I ordered the Taco Salad - first it was plenty of food , in fact it had the most meat of any taco salad that I've ever gotten at any restaurant. However, the meat lacked seasoning IMO. I also ordered a beef taco. It was a little different from the basic taco. This appeared to be a sealed taco with ground beef, laying flat, with sour cream and lettuce on top of it. Different but fine. There was only one waitress, she very nice, but lacked on services. I never got a refill to my water. She only came back when we called her. The positives - portions are large, the food wasn't great but not terrible. The negative- literally, walking through the kitchen to the restroom. Taqueria Alameda has a perfect rating going for them in Yelp. That's almost impossible to do as a mexican restaurant in Michigan. Because of Yelp and since I trust Janelle W's reviews, I had to try this perfect rated place myself. Basically, it was not just amazing authentic taste of mexican food that would give this place 5 stars, I would give it more then 5 stars for the impeccable service and the high quality of the food! I walked inside and it was a grocery store with partial dining area. I'm use to this type of set up since I'm from Korea and lived in LA. I sat down and looked over the menu and I wanted to try everything. I ordered carnitas taco and al pastor taco plus chipotle chicken tostada. I asked for avocado on the tacos and they put it on the tostada also! Bonus! I taste the tostada first and I was so happy that I have discovered something so delicious that I started to plan the next visit here after just few bites. The tacos are the classic mexican tacos, (2 corn tortillas, meat, onions, cilantro) and it was awesome. Reminds me of Taco Truck tacos but cleaner taste to it. Basically not as greasy. The avocados were so fresh and had no brown spots what so ever. The waitress was spot on for everyone in the place. Very attentive and worked very hard to please everyone. I noticed checking out what other people ordered that there is the "other style" tacos like the deef fried flour shell, cheese, lettuce, etc. I also saw few menudos (tripe soup) being ordered which makes me thing they are delicious. I also saw guacamole that looked so fresh that even when I was full, I thought about ordering it. I could tell it was freshly made. As for my list of the best, it just moved to the #1 best Mexican Meal in Michigan. I'm in planning stage of when I should go there again and which of my friends would love this place much as I do. For your information: --- It's not a big place. Small groups of less then 4 only. It has probably 5 tables and that's it. --- Also they take credit cards but bring cash for tip! You can not add tip to the charge. The awesome waitress told me not to worry about tipping her since I couldn't add the tip the the charge but luckily I had few singles in my pocket. :) --- i don't think they give you complementary chips and salsa but since everything is cheap there, not a big deal to spend a little for chips and salsa. --- I will haunt down anyone that gives less then 5 stars for this place. --- Janelle W should get free food here for life since she started the Yelp following of this restaurant. read more

I stopped in for lunch one day and had a great meal, however this review is for their catering. I was hosting a party for about 20 people and remembered that there were a variety of party trays advertised on the wall. For $130 we had plenty of food for the whole group, what a deal! 24 each of tacos, burritos & tamales, rice & beans, chips and salsa and all the fixings. I was able to call the day before and everything was ready exactly when I arrived for pickup. They do need a deposit on the food when ordering, so if you call in you'll have to make another stop. read more

The service here was wonderful. Very comfortable and pleasant. The place is snuggled in with a small Mexican grocery store and has a very family-like atmosphere. I was served tortilla chips with fresh salsa (both regular and HOT). The salsas were great! Very fresh and obviously homemade with lots of flavor. They ended up bringing me another large bowl of the regular, as I took to mixing the two. The food arrived in not time with fresh lime, cilantro, & onions. The flavor was out of this world, especially the campechano & al pastor. The chicken was good, but beside the other spices was slightly overpowered. I was in taco heaven! The sopa had just the exact mix of ingredients, and the texture & flavor were perfect. This is a must go place if you like authentic Mexican food. This place is small and cute, and we almost missed it because we weren't expecting it to be in a strip mall. They have 99 cent tacos 11-3 and they were pretty great. We tried the chicken, steak and marinated pork (they also have crispy pork) and all were great (steak was the best). They've got a tiny dining room and tiny grocery section with all sorts of Mexican cookies and beverages etc.. But serious, da hella greatness that is going on in there. I was going to wait until I tasted the lamb stew but heck with it. It gets better every time. My brother and I have become addicted to the 'crispy' beef taco. I can barely describe it, it's like a pierogi size corn hard shell pouch stuffed with seasoned meat, and NOTHING else. After gushing about having some great. Mexican food last month a friend of mine asked if I had ever been to this place and I had not. Laurie told me that it was excellent and that I should give it a try. I decided today would be that day so I stopped in for a takeout order. It is located in a small space and the entrance is nearly obstructed by one of the strip mall's pillars. After entering you will encounter a couple of tables with chairs where most people sit down at awaiting their takeout order (there is a larger dining area to the left of the order counter). The employees at the counter were friendly and helpful with my ordering. I decided on the two taco meal (beef) which included refried beans and rice. I also ordered a 'Make Your Own' burrito for later with chicken. As I waited for my order there was a steady stream of people coming in to either sit down and order in, pick up an order or place a takeout order... I was more confident that this was going to be delicious. I was not disappointed! The tacos had fresh cilantro on them (I ordered them in the soft tortilla shells) and I words cannot describe how delicious they were! The fresh lime juice squeezed into them really made a difference in taste! I've not had a taco that tasted that good! The burrito? Just as great 5 hours later as I watched TV! This is a tough review to write because I trust the tastes of some very experienced Yelpers who reviewed before me, but I have to say with brutal honesty that I thought it was good, but I wasn't blown away. First of all, the atmosphere is awesome. Having dinner in the middle of a Mexican market is super cool, and I'm a big fan of anywhere I can go in sweats, and still look better than the average customer. The chips were awesome and hot, and their salsa was perfect. I ordered a combo plate of a taco, tostada, and enchilada. You can't mix and match the meat on the combo which was disappointing since I generally get sick of the same taste easily. However, I ordered my combo with grilled chicken. Um, again it was ok. But it came with rice and beans and they were cold. Also the chicken was a tad dry, and since it was in EVERY part of my combo plate, I felt a little robbed. I did end up getting some flan that was awesome. So between the chips and salsa, flan, and the cool supermarket environment, it was a pretty good experience. I'm going to keep this place bookmarked so I can try it again with a different flavor. Expect an update eventually. read more

We did the head! :) I dragged my husband there and we ate way too much... but we wanted to try everything. He ordered the head taco but I took a nibble. Not as scary as I was expecting. Reminded me of brisket without the BBQ sauce, or the beef ribs at Gauchos.
