Sometimes I'll pull it up on my phone and put it in front of my sweetheart at restaurants :-) Very cool! A little history, Major League Baseball (MLB) has been broadcast on television since the 1930s, with initial broadcasts on the experimental station W2XBS, the predecessor of the modern WNBC in New York. The World Series was televised on a networked basis since 1947, with regular season games broadcast nationally since 1953. Fast forward to 2002, while 47,000+ fans in the stands at Yankee Stadium watched as starter Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez throw a first pitch strike to Texas Rangers outfielder Todd Hollandsworth, at precisely the same moment another 30,000 fans from 60 countries around the world accessed a new technology developed by MLB Advanced Media via a media player just larger than a postage stamp, becoming witnesses to digital media history as they watched. That was MLB.TV's first-ever live streamed game. After its debut in 2002, MLB.TV earned its share of praise, but of course there were some detractors too. But rather than go through the ups and downs and growing pains let's talk about MLB.tv today. In 2021 MLB.TV is part of the free MLB app, which is available on a slew of devices, from phones and tablets to computers and game consoles to streaming boxes and smart TVs. A subscription for live games is great but you get a lot more than just the regular season baseball. Spring training games are also available as part of the subscription, and you'll also get access to a huge trove of on-demand content, documentaries and more. For all you need to know, go to: https://www.makeuseof.com/what-is-mlb-tv-everything-need-know/ There were rumblings of boycotting last year however opening Day 2021 was the most-watched day in MLB.TV history, surpassing previous highs set on Opening Day 2020. Users watched a total of 121 million minutes of live games on MLB.TV. We used to go to Fenway for games and local TV was never a problem in New England because they were always sold out but retiring over 1200 miles away our go-to option is definitely streaming on MLB.tv. #RedSoxNation Blackouts stink! Not only are your local team's games unavailable on MLB.TV, but nationally televised games also fall prey to blackout restrictions. Games on ESPN, Fox, FS1, MLB Network and TBS can be blacked out on MLB.TV, which can be terribly disappointing when you attempt to tune into a game and are greeted with the blackout notice. [PRO TIP] A VPN on your phone, tablet, or other device can fix this issue :-) Bottom line: At $130 for the year, MLB.TV is too pricey for casual fans but certainly worth it for serious baseball geeks who live outside their team's home market. There is a veterans and military discount of 35% ($84.49)

Currently all Comcast customers pay upwards of $10 a month for Yankee games on YES, whether they're baseball fans or not -- with the vast majority screaming to move the games to a higher paid tier thus allowing actual fans to pay full freight for the privilege without having it buried in the weeds of an incomprehensible cable bill. For their part, the Yankees are not pleased, having predicated their salary structure and operating budget on this monthly windfall which flows even after baseball season is over... trust me, the Brooklyn Nets are not sufficient compensation when baseball goes fallow. So, we have a stand-off that Comcast will ultimately win in the short-term however, only hastening the day when MLB will offer streaming packages for all teams with no blackouts. The Yankees for their part have hastily constructed the Gotham Sports Network as a stand-alone streaming package for $40 a month (about the same cost in tolls from Princeton to attend a single game at Yankee Stadium, which is now close to a $1,000 evening for tickets parking and food.) It remains to be seen how deep fans are willing to dig for the privilege of night games in April... and how many fans will ultimately ditch cable when their last tether to Comcast (ie Live Sports) is cut. As a former Comcast customer and lifelong baseball fan it's hard not to imagine a cable-free environment by 2030 where all games and teams are available for a much more appropriate fee. Also, as a former Comcast customer, they have a long history of removing content because "it's too expensive" and then pocketing the difference without lowering bills a commensurate amount. In the meantime, I'll wait patiently while the beancounters in the Bronx tumble the numbers and pray for the next player lock-out and the inevitable salary-cap that follows. A resounding NO to YES... and Comcast for that matter.

Whether you're a lifelong Yankees fan or just visiting for a game, the energy of the crowd and the iconic setting make for an unforgettable experience. A first-class ballpark that perfectly blends tradition with modern amenities. Highly recommended for any sports fan. Can be better with some little upgrades

Our first order of business was visiting monument park right as gates opened at 5:30 since it closes before first pitch. Best access is entering in through Gate 8, and surprisingly there was no line for a Friday evening game! This is a must for any baseball fan and you can see all of the retired Yankee numbers along with a monument plaque for greats. We also had a good field and dining experience. Tried the angry lobster roll, grub and tub chicken bucket, and ice cream chicken bucket. The chicken was alright, nothing too amazing but it is a lot of fries and a good amount of tendies. Pretty decent value for $23 since it comes with a souvenir drink. Lobster roll was great! I really liked the seasoning, and it came with a side of chips too. The real highlight was the ice cream chicken bucket! The hype is real with this one! Each drumstick was made intricately with yummy cornflake coating and the chocolate pretzel bone is a great touch. Seating in the 212 section was pretty fun. The Yanks are doing great right now so the energy in the crowd was amazing. We went crazy during Ben Rice's homer! Only downside was some people got a bit too crazy and threw up right behind my wife's seat...not great but it is what it is I guess. We enjoyed walking around the stadium, talking to fans, and taking in all the different views while getting our food. The one thing I'd say is that while our experience was good, can't help but feel the stadium lacks a bit of character. The concourse is just okay compared to most other modern stadiums, and there aren't many things other than monument park and the Yankee museum that make the place stand out. The great hall is cool, but you don't really spend much time there. It's a good stadium, but I feel like there were some missed opportunities during construction that could have put it in the upper echelon of MLB ballparks.

Honestly, the age of a bowling alley is not a huge detractor for me. Bowling alley "experiences" these days attempt to add on a lot of other demands for alleys, but all that's needed really are the shoes, the balls, and the lanes. I wouldn't be opposed to some nice seats too in between bowls. Bar-Don does feel like the kind of bowling alley I'd find out in the PA suburbs. Old newspaper clippings of heroic efforts from bowlers of the past. The American food-serving bar in the back, next to the arcade machines. Lanes where you have to manually lift and lower the bumpers. Some people find this outdated, but I'd say that this just means this place is classic and has longevity. I had a great time bowling here with good house balls, good lanes that I could continue to practice spinning on and not be completely baffled, and seating that was not super painful. That being said, there were some technical breakdowns between our two games. Our lane wasn't resetting at one point, and at another our ball return got stuck. Both ended up being resolved, and seem to just be par for the course if you come to an older place like this that's not running full cylinder like it used to. Final upside? A lot cheaper than the city, and honestly if anyone complains about the prices, then they need to get their bar reset.
