I had a great experience shopping with my elderly mom for shoes. Mother has foot problems as well as Alzheimer's, and has a lot of trouble with her motor skills and communication. Not as much selection as DSW, but the store is still a decent size and carries good comfort brands like b.o.c., Dr. Scholl's, Clarks, and more. They have my favorite brand of sandals too (Italian Shoemakers). They also have nice sales like Buy One Get One Half Off! Even during a big sale (and at a time when a billion parents were in the store for back to school shoe shopping) the place was still quite organized! The manager here is so nice and very hands on! I have been here shopping for kids shoes as well as women's shoes and have received lots of help. If you are looking for kids' shoes, the selection is quite limited for boys. My oldest is now wearing a size 6 men's and there were like 2 pairs in his size. As far as the women's shoes go, they have lots of stuff, but not lots of sizes. This manager will call and see if they have any in the warehouse and they will ship it to you for free! They also have a frequent buyer program where you get coupons and they'll send you a $10 coupon for your birthday. So all in all, not a bad chain shopping experience. Don't have expectations to find what you saw in the newspaper though. read more

I had to blink to make sure I wasn't seeing things: the same pair of Keds I purchased at DSW were $15 less at Famous Footwear! Famous Footwear reminds me of Shoe Carnival. It isn't trying for the DSW boutique experience, and they focus more on big sales to draw in customers. I don't think I've ever shopped at a Famous Footwear without there being some kind of sale going on. I was here during a Buy 1, Get 1 at 50% off sale. This included all of their shoes, even clearance. They have a lot of name brands (Steve Madden, Keds, Sperry, and Carlos Santana to name a few), but nothing that I'd call overpriced. The sandals were picked over, and the store overall feels a little disorganized including narrow aisles in the clearance section. If you don't mind a warehouse kind of feel, there are some great deals at Famous Footwear. In addition to my Keds, I found a darling pair of Carlos Santana flats in a platinum shade with laser cut-outs on the clearance rack. They were marked down to $20. My Keds and Carlos shoes cost a combined $43, which was still $5 less than what I paid for the single pair of Keds at DSW. Customer service is great. I noticed one girl bending over backwards for a customer who wanted to special order a pair and have them shipped to her home. The girl who rang me up was also very friendly and she walked around the store greeting customers and asking them if they needed any assistance. It's not the level of service I'm used to at discount retailers, and for my tastes it was a little bit too much, but it was still nice to see. read more

I like this place. I wind up here a lot when I am looking for shoes for work, as they have pretty much every style I could possibly want. My only issue is the whole instant gratification one, as, since I wear a common size, they frequently don't have my size. Sure, they ship for free if they don't have stuff in stock but I usually need my item right then hence the trip in. Otherwise, this store is usually fairly tidy and shoes aren't just hanging around all over the floors - it seems like someone is always out there, picking stuff up. Also very friendly and helpful, if I need suggestions or if I did, heaven forbid, leave enough time to order something rather than need it right away. Good sales, good clearance area, and I'll continue to grow my shoe wardrobe here. read more
