You can find nice shoes at DSW. Be careful tho, this parking lot can get nuts on busy days. The cashiers and floor staff are usually friendly. They're periodically short staffed up front, so don't be surprised to see frustrated customers and employees. They have good clearance deals in the back corner. Recently had a card they sent by mail for $30 off purchase. I made a large purchase but forgot my card at home. Woman who checked me out said no problem. Told me to bring the card and my receipt and it would be honored to refund my $30. When I did exactly that, a man at the checkout told me they would not honor it. I told him a salesperson there said it would be done. I offered to bring the shoes back to return and recharge to get the $30. He still said no. And was rude. I recall it was the last day the card was valid, on Mother's Day. Clearly he had no issue being rude to. me. I will never go back. Ordered my shoes online and paid for them. Got a tracking number that FedEx had them on the way. They got as far as a neighboring town and stayed there and stayed there and stayed there. I finally called the CS number to ask why they were taking so long. After being put on hold a long time I was told that they should be arriving any day. When I asked why they were taking so long I got to put on hold a long time again then told that I needed to resubmit the order after weeks of waiting. When I asked why he said that it was because it had taken too long and I should resubmit the order and he would give me $5 off. When I said answer the question why was it taking so long and why was it canceled then it turned into $20 off. Then he offered to reorder them for me I said fine. Another long hold, then he told me that my credit card wasn't working and I should reorder them on my own and then call them back again to get the portion of the bill discounted that he was offering. Never would answer the question why I got a tracking number for a product that apparently didn't exist. Worst experience I've had in a long time but don't worry I won't be shopping there again so I won't have to put up with it again. Hope you don't either read more

Amber was rude as hell. She hates her job and should probably not work in retail because she's definitely not a people person due to her attitude and can't smile. I went to pay for shoes that have obviously have been worn. The stitches were coming out and when asked for a discount she stated no. Laila who was on the floor was rude as well just on her phone, and when I asked her to look for a pair of Dr. Scholl's shoes she looked at me dumbfounded after I said sneakers. Erm, this might get awkward but the last time I came here I was trying on a few shoes and I thought I noticed one of the employees (male) keeping an eye on me like I was going to steal something. I walked around for a bit doing the DSW aisle zig zag dance and making sure I scowered the clearance section (duh). Through my zig zagging and bargain hunting, I found a pair of espadrilles (out of season, I know- but it gets me excited for the impending warmer weather). I thought they might be something I could fit into my Sprin/Summer wardrobe menagerie, so I decided to try them on. I sit down, and and getting ready to try them on after I remove the 97097797274 pieces of tissue paper stuffed in the box, when the male employee comes over and tells me I have great feet and that he just loves feet. Uhm, thanks, Guy. (use sarcasm font) I'm totally comfortable with you sharing this piece of personal information while I'm sitting there, naked. Okay, I'm not naked... but my feet are and they really getting the heebie jeebies right now. That creeped me out a little but mostly because I was basically the only customer in the store at the time. If anything, I guess it was better than him telling me my toes are jacked up or something... at least I had a fun, creepy story to tell for the last few weeks. Besides that, which I really only used to factor in a small portion of this rating, I'm just not a fan of this DSW. I don't think I'm the target market for the selection of shoes at this location. Everything with a non stiletto heel reminds me of my mom's business casual shoes for work at the hospital... you know, some semi chunky square heel with a buckle on the front type things. Like if pirates went for business casual... or you were a 7th grade science teacher from Indiana... or if you were Rachel on 'Friends' circa 1995. The big give away for me is that in the 25 or so times that I've gone in this store, I've only purchased shoes once, and they were a gift for my mom. I mean, I have absolutely no self control when it comes to shopping and on top of that, how many ladies do you know who can go into a discount shoe warehouse 25 times and leave with nothing for themselves? So often, that the same checkout clerk that helps me most Sundays when I venture in here has noticed the trend that I rock at DSW deal hunting. The store in general, to me and my limited fashion experience, is pretty much like every other DSW I've ever been in. I haven't noticed the different in selection at all in regards to mostly work shoes versus party crazy stiletto pumps. I think this store has a good selection of both. Their clearance section is where the magic happens for me. Otherwise, very organized store. Friendly service. DSW's new location in the Springbrook Prairie Pavilion (where Whole Foods is) is even better than before! The actual space may be a little smaller but I assure you there are just as many shoes to sift through to find your perfect pair. I could spend hours at DSW (and normally do) walking down each and every isle. This new location made a few wonderful changes. There was a lot of people working when I went on a Saturday afternoon and they were all very friendly and helpful. The lighting isn't super bright and in your face but a lot softer. The new store feels more expensive and is well decorated. This DSW also has a larger clearance section which I like. I would definitely recommend taking a look because usually you can get a pretty good deal. I've gotten a pair of Betsy Johnson pumps for $30! I would also sign up for their membership (free of charge) because you get some pretty great coupons in the mail, such as $20 off. Overall, whether you're looking for new sandals for the summer, running shoes, or a great pair of heels, DSW has everything you need. read more

Something about the layout just isn't right. They made it nearly impossible to find my type of shoe. Most places sort by style, or price, or even size. This one... not so much. I was on the hunt for a pair of discount ASICS. My friend bought some recently and told me to check it out. So I went to the clearance section and everything was a jumble. They vaguely have shoes sorted by size, but it's a rack of size 8s and then another rack with 8-8.5 and then another rack with 8-8.5 and then half a rack with 8.5. I didn't even want to bother checking which were 8s and which were 8.5. They didn't even have the styles organized. A salesperson was putting away shoes and I asked her where the running shoes were located. She goes, "You mean you didn't check that section over there?". Then she sort of flicked her wrist in a nondescript direction and started to walk towards them. I was trying to put on my shoes to go over there and she says, "Oh, you don't want me to show you?" I'm like, "That's OK. I see it now... Thanks." Over at the running shoe section and just as confused as ever. There was no rhyme or reason to any of it. The row basically went ASICS, ADIDAS, Puma, ASICS, Puma, Sketchers, Nike, K-Swiss, ASICS, ADIDAS, Sketchers. Yea, you tell me if you get it. Didn't think so. Ended up with one pair of ASICS that cost almost as much as they would have if I had purchased them from an actual running store. Some were as low as $50, but there was nothing to explain what made them cheaper and what functions they had. I had to go on what knowledge I had before coming to the store. read more

DSW's since moved into its new location in the old Loehmann's space next to Nordstrom Rack. I hope healthy competition between dear old Nordie and DSW spurs better sales and selection, as DSW could sure as heck use it. I used to go to the DSW when it was adjacent to Performance Bike on Route 59, though I like the new space a great deal more if only because the environmentally friendly parking lot rocks my socks. Environmental Resources student, I can't help little touches like that. Consider it a shoe superstore with a taste for middle of the road brands, ranging from Madden Girl and Sketchers to Guess and some pricier brands. Top price point is about $200 for boots, so that puts them squarely in Nordstrom Rack's territory. DSW has a bad tendency to run out of size 10 (mine) at the drop of a tissue, and I can be there on stocking day to find no 10s. Staff will search other stores to see whether they have it, but either all the women of Chicagoland have large tootsies, or DSW simply stocks only one pair in all the styles I like. It's a conspiracy, I'm sure, to keep me stuck in limited shoes and trawling eBay or Zappos or Amazon out of frustration. DSW's prices are fair. I always check Zappo's as a baseline because more than once, I've trotted out of the store only to find I paid $10-30 more than I might've elsewhere. On the other hand, if you cannot wait for shipping and need something for right now, right here, by all means that difference could be no issue at all. Sadly for me, I never go in looking for something in a pinch and come out with something suitable. My relationship with DSW is set up on unmet expectations, much to my frustration. If I see something I want, it's invariably in the wrong size, too expensive, or not the right colour. When I want something fitting fairly easy constraints -- a brown walking shoe -- they are completely out. It's like coveting a man you can never have, and it only exists in your imagination. DSW is famed for its clearance rack. Why? The prices here aren't any better than anywhere else, and in many cases are much higher. I've never found any of the feted 60% off shoes (size 10, again, good luck with that). Nordie Rack treats my feet much better when it comes to a sale, and I would sooner go to Lori's Shoes or Zappo's and pay full price. Not a love affair for me. DSW, you lose 1-star for your employees hounding me about the rewards program. They really need to designate one person per shift to ask about this. It gets annoying when you are browsing or in the middle of trying on shoes. "Yes," I grunt as I tug on some strappy heels, "I have one." The selection doesn't get much better than this. And I love that the store is in aisles, not a maze of round displays commonly found at department stores. I know I can stop browsing when I get to the granny clog aisle, and then move on to the clearance section. The clearance is hit or miss. I've gotten some great stuff, but it's clearance so you never know what you will find. Employees are also willing to call other stores if they don't have your size. But I need shoes that are fashionable, yet meet specific requirements to be orthopaedically safe and comfortable for me to walk in. Looove their clearance section. I can usually find a few good pair here. And if they don't work out? I haven't had any problems with them letting me make returns so far. Tonight, I had anxiety on my way to the store knowing I need new boots before the snow hits. Need: * cute enough to wear to work, out to dinner, out to bars, etc. * rubber slip-resistant soles that are flat enough not to let my foot/ankle turn, so nooo heels! * must have a zipper, as pulling on shoes can be difficult and painful. * gotta be black to match everything * high enough on the calf for trekking through deeper snow * not so high that walking becomes even more difficult Now, would you wanna be the salesperson dealing with me? Didn't think so. Found a pair I thought might work, but alas, my size was nowhere to be found. The store was busy, and all employees were on registers. So, I got in line to ask if there was someone the cashier could call to check the back room. He said no problem, he'd go check himself! He disappeared to the back, and after a few minutes, returned with the sad news that that style only had 11's in the back. *sigh* He offered to call another store, which I wouldn't have time to go to. Almost directly across the street from my gym which usually means I'm here once a week. Their regular price shoes are okay. But I always make a point to hit the clearance rack. Yes I've picked up a couple cute shoes for a great price back there. That's even for my freak size 11 feet. I was here looking for a pair of running shoes and maybe a pair of boots. I can't say anything about the customer service. There were no employees around, but I prefer not to be hassled. Seemed to me the selection was very awkward. A lot of styles but none of them really a must buy. I have an embarrassing amount of shoes, so me saying that says a lot. And the prices weren't super enticing either, even in the clearance section. Maybe I'll try next season in hopes of a more well rounded selection. read more

If you have never been in a DSW, it's like being in a candy store! They carry more merchandise than almost any other shoe store I've ever been in, and their prices are very competitive. Since everything is self-serve, it's even more fun to try on shoes that you might possibly never purchase for yourself, and then find out they didn't look so bad after all! DSW is a GREAT value if you purchase from their HUGE selection of clearance items! These shoes may be the last size of its kind, extras that just didn't sell quickly or sometimes very quirkly shoes! However, they are CHEAP! In my last shopping spree here I was able to find 3 pairs of shoes for work (basic black, brown & boots) for $60 total! A complete bargain! The staff here is always busy at the registers, but they are organized and well-trained. Kudos to the managers who have ALL of the answers and to the floor staff who have always been very helpful and seem to keep chaos in check by neatly replacing every shoebox into pristine organized rows! You need shoes, and here you can buy three pairs instead of the mere single pair you really need. It's a free-for-all, but the prices are outstanding and the styles are pretty varied. Great bargains, but HORRIBLE service. My hubby and I went shopping here for several pairs of shoes. A clerk randomly comes up to us and asks to take our 3 pairs of shoes and "hold" them " up front." We agree, hand them to her and we continue to look at shoes. I found one more pair and then we headed "up front" to the register. After it seemed like hours in there, we were ready to check out. We stood in a very long line and once we got up there and asked for our shoes that were "on hold", nobody knew what we were talking about. OUR SHOES WERE GONE!! They non chalantly told us someone must of put them back. What???!!! These shoes we picked out were the only shoes in that size, so naturally I was freaking out. They store clerk went in the back and retrieved only one pair of shoes that we had on hold. Weird?? Why were they in the back?? Well, I ended up searching the shelves where we found them in the first place and thank god they were still there. The clerk checking us out continued to say she had nothing to do with it . Ummm .. Love this store! Has a great selection for shoes, sandals, heels, wedges, pumps, etc. You can always find something in the clearance section as well. The only reason I'm giving it a 4 out of 5 is some of the staff members are not friendly and don't have much knowledge about the items in the store. My mother and I both experienced that, finally both of us found this one guy who helped out and took his time, really appreciated him for doing that. read more

I am writing this out of frustration. My issue isn't with their products, it is with their online website. I have been trying to order a pair of sandals for 2 days now. The website will not let me put in my size or width. When you click on the size, it highlights in blue, but won't let me put in my size or add the sandals to the cart. I have been trying to chat for 2 days also but I keep getting the message that their shoe lovers are tied up right now. Check back later. I have been checking back for 2 days now - morning noon and evening and they are always tied up right now. I am totally disgusted at this point. I was looking for a very specific shoe for an event tomorrow and the nicest woman found me 5 pairs in the style I wanted and even looked for the clearance version. I wish I had gotten her name because no one there gets credit for sales so she was just going the extra mile - and I am grateful. While we were trying to pick the perfect pair, she suggested the new BCBG suede mary jane that came in today. I was overjoyed and told her my size - when she brought the box over, we opened it and realized someones old raggedy shoes were placed inside the box - because they had STOLEN the shoes. I am slightly color blind but still like to wear nice shoes. I have to wear dress shoes for work and was looking for a nice grey pair but have a difficult time seeing what is black, what is grey and what is blue-ish. The nice lady there (I asked for her name but already forgot, nice brunette) took her time helping walk me around showing me different shoe options and telling me what was indeed grey and what wasnt. It was very nice of her and she most people would go out of their way to help me. I even asked a customer in the store before I asked her and she seemed bothered by the fact that I was color blind.
