The people that work at this Geneva, IL., store are very friendly, patient and knowledgeable. My sales person was Jef. I was sent by my podiatrist, my toes are all dislocated from RA. After several surgeries and each foot being different shapes and sizes he very kindly and patiently brought out several shoes and sizes until we found the perfect ones that my foot and orthotics fit in painfree and comfortable. I have to wear a brace and need one shoe bigger than the other to accommodate the brac. I was in 2 months ago, and at that time my brace only required 1/2 size difference. I told the employe that I wanted I wanted 1 in each size. He said that I would be fine with hav both a half's size bigger. NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR. Today I went in and asked just to buy the left shoe 1 full size bigger. they made me buy both because someone said that in order to get the 25% off you had to buy both sizes at the same time. So in less than 2 months I just spent 300 dollars on 1 par of shoes and one is actually a half size too big. If you need 2 sizes because you were a brace on one leg. I'm glad this store is still around. I wear a size that's hard to find. I don't care to buy shoes online, I prefer to try them on, before buying. I buy a shoe that is a bit more costly than some of the other shoes, but nice to know that it is made in the US. It does seem to last longer, also. The salesman suggested some shoe laces called bubble laces, that don't come untied like the others do. They come in different colors, I got turquoise. They are great. Nice to be able to go about your day, without retying your laces all the time. They won't come undone until you take them off. I highly recommend them! I buy all my active shoes through New Balance. They have the quirky sizes that fit my feet. Basically, I'm a sure sale. Went in today knowing the shoe I wanted. I saw it online and knew i wanted it. She didn't have what I was looking for and noted that it would take almost weeks to get the shoe I wanted. Not once did she offer to check online for me. I needed a pair of shoes and she kept pushing the priciest ones. I bought them. I got home and looked online and noted that the exact shoe I wanted was available and in stock. I understand the difference between retail warehouses and online warehouses. They're different stock. But why wouldn't she offer that to me? Irritated that this wasn't an option, I returned them. She asked me the reason, and I told her I felt like I was settling. I found the pair I wanted online. "We can order them for you." "We don't want to lose your business." "Each retail store is independently owned." She even offered to waive shipping. Where was that service three hours ago? I feel your plight. But if you want to retain my business, perhaps you should have offered me that option before I settled for shoes I wasn't happy with. I told her she didn't lose my business, and I mean that. They know their active product and about active shoes. But perhaps you should go out of your way to make sure I want to come back. read more

Great customer service and extended business hours. I did my research and called in to make a Professional Fit appointment (for my father). They were able to schedule same day appointment and encourage us to come in that evening. In speaking with them over the phone, they prearranged a selection of shoes to try on based on his anticipated activity type, est. size and width. Went to this store about a month ago with my grandmother (83yo) to purchase shoes for her. She was referred by her doctor due to her foot problems. Loren was so attentive and patient with us. He brought out multiple variations and sizes of shoes in addition to his knowledge of the shoes. Most people in customer service would have become irritated with all of the questions and requests. The only positive thing I have to say about this location is that they are always willing to order shoes for you. Mine even arrived earlier than expected. That's where the customer service ends. I've been running in the same model shoe for six years. I recently bought the 860 V-8 and it was a bad pair of shoes. Something was throwing off my gait and I was experiencing excruciating pain while running. The pain ceased immediately when I switched shoes to my older pair of the same model. It was clearly the shoes. When I took them into exchange them, the woman was very kind condescending and rude to me. The first thing she asked me was if I had ever run in a shoe with a medial post before. I am in ultramarathon her. This was not my first rodeo. I really just wanted to exchange the shoes. I even called the day before and was told that would be possible. I had an older, grumpy woman who has zero knowledge of customer service. I can go to any other running store and get less harassed to exchange shoes. I will not be going back there again. read more

I bought some shoes online, drove to the store to return them, brought all the originally packing items including, shoes, box, and packing slip. They wouldn't return them because I didn't have the email confirmation. I didn't have access to my phone and couldn't get that. I went to the New Balance store in Geneva on 9/6. I have trouble finding shoes due to severe ankle pronation, fallen arches and misaligned toes. In the past I had gone online to purchase specialty brands such as Orthofeet and Mephisto. I have a closetful of very expensive shoes that hurt my feet. Mary at New Balance was very attentive. She listened carefully to my litany of problems and took pains to make sure my feet were measured correctly. She recommended a couple of different models that she felt would provide the medial support I need. I tried them on and Mary immediately determined that my usual size 7 was actually too short. My toes were rubbing up against the top of my shoes, aggravating a chronically painful callus on my toe. She suggested trying a size larger and the relief is dramatic. The new shoe is deep enough to accommodate my AFO. I can now walk with a more normal gait and best of all my feet don't hurt. Thank you Mary!!! read more
