The lunch deals here are pretty awesome! I got two tacos (chicken and pastor) with a side of rice and beans. I love that you have a selection of tacos instead of a single option or two. Flavors were on point, especially paired with the red and green salsas included. I split the carne asada fries as an appetizer. The portion was gigantic and definitely needs to be split with a friend! The horchata was delicious though quite sweet for me. My theory was that they hoped the ample ice would eventually dilute the drink down for takeaway. In terms of picking up food, the restaurant parking lot was a little difficult to get into at the time given a carwash nearby. This place was so good! The restaurant was really cute and clean with bright colors and friendly atmosphere. The service was excellent, and the person who served us was very friendly and helpful. The food was really packed with flavor, and everything was nice and hot and fresh. The sauces were very flavorful, with nicely roasted peppers and what seemed to be good, fresh ingredients. I stopped in for a quick bite to eat. As I told the cashier that I will be eating in she politely told me that I can sit anywhere. The dining area is full of bright, vibrant colors with a decent outside eating area. The hostess came over and gave me chips and salsa to munch on. The chips were warm and crunchy. The red salsa was my favorite. It was smoky and hot without blowing your head off. The green salsa was mild with a little lime flavor in the background. My Carne Asada burrito dinner came out quickly. The burrito comes with beans, lettuce, tomato cheese, and sour cream. My favorite thing about the burrito was the protein, good flavor, and I love the little charred bits. The burrito is a nice size. The rice was good and so was the beans. Awesome quick taco place, clean and crisp interior. Basic, no frills, sometimes that's just what we need. Especially since chain restaurant prices have increased it's less expensive to get something local and fresh! I really like this place! I'm a professor at Oakton College and stopped here a couple of years ago. There are many options on the corner and when I had a class in Skokie again I drive by and decided to see if it was as good as I had remembered. It's not. It's better than I remembered! It is now the stop I visit on my way home from class at night. Their hours are great for that and their place looks fantastic! I get mine to go so I can't speak on the service but the tacos are PACKED with meat and are delicious! My favorite is the chicken. The fish is okay... the beef is great. I like it. I recommend it. I am unapologetically *obsessed* with Verde Avocado in Skokie. I happened upon the spot when I was at Best Buy one evening and wanted to grab a quick dinner. Little did I know, their quesadilla dinner was going to change my life. Next thing I know, I've asked friends to meet there for lunch twice, I've stopped in to pick up meals, and I've doordashed it countless times at this point. The beans and rice are good and fresh - the rice is soft which I like. The quesadilla though is so good. They give you the option of corn or flour tortillas. My husband really liked his burrito dinner especially for $15. I thought my $10 milanesa chicken torta was just ok and not worth the price. The chicken was paper thin so it was not much meat. I wouldn't get it again. They offered free chips and salsa (red and green, both of which were spicy but the red was spicier) Our friend got a steak dinner but I think it was $27. Verde Avocado is a solid choice for Mexican food in the North suburbs. I came here with a dear friend a few weeks ago to catch up and have lunch. Post meal, I have nothing but good things to say about the place. Chips and salsa are complimentary offering red and green sauce. I like heat but have a heat threshold. I personally preferred the green over the red. I love the range of food they offer. Aside from the standard tortas, tacos and burritos they also serve beef birria tacos and posole. The ambiance is bright and fun with an adequate amount of indoor and outdoor seating. Alcohol is served here and next time I go with the hubby, I'd love to check out their drink menu. I love stumbling upon hidden gems like this joint that is in some sort of former fast food space nestled next to a super busy car wash. Once you move past the randomness of the setting, this place is great. The service is friendly and the food is straight delicious. Some of the best mole I've had in a long time and my wife's fajitas were light and perfectly seasoned - not your typical mess of ingredients bathing in a bunch of grease on a far-too-hot cast iron skillet. I got the dine-in weekday lunch taco special which included 2 tacos, rice and beans, and a horchata. The pastor was spiced perfectly, and there was a slight char which added depth and texture. A fellow Yelper recommended this restaurant and I'm so glad we tried it! We sat down and the server was friendly and fast! She immediately brought out chips and two types of salsa. The salsa was cold and yummy. The red one had more spice but was not extremely spicy. We ordered our food and she brought it out quickly. Our meals were both really tasty and portion was great! I never went to West of Edens but when I saw the Verde Avocado sign driving down Niles Center Road, it piqued my curiosity. Lots of windows, not a lot of tables but a nice patio. I was waiting on my friend, who is a vegetarian, so I anxiously scanned the menu to make sure there were options for them (there were plenty). As I was waiting I received chips with two salsas (one spicy). I love Chilaquiles so I had to try theirs. I picked the green sauce and it was a little spicy but very tasty. This came with rice and beans (wonderful!). My friend had a torta. We both enjoyed our food and the service was very attentive. Of course we will have to come back to try the tacos. 04/07/23 - Last night I headed to Verde Avocado to check it out. Verde is located on Niles Center Road just north of the McDonalds on the NW corner of Touhy & Niles Center Road. Verde Avocado has only been there a few months & replaced a mediocre Mediterranean restaurant that use to be there. Verde Avocado has pretty good tacos. I ordered the 3 taco dinner w/1 carne Asada & 2 carnitas w/pineapple pieces mixed in. They were both pretty good especially the carnitas w/the pineapple that gave the taco a slightly sweet flavor. This came w/the standard rice & beans & some tortilla chips (no salsa?). Pretty good food @ a reasonable price point of $11.00 for 3 tacos rice & beans plus tax. This is a hidden gem. I have been craving Mexican food for weeks and wanted to try something new, and this place exceeded expectations. Guacamole was fresh with just the right ratio of ingredients. The queso fundido was outstanding and my husband confided that next time we go, that's all he wants for dinner. The burritos are the size of someone's head-- and approved by my picky 9 year old daughter. My 12 year old son, the quesadilla connoisseur, chomped happily. And that taco salad I was craving so badly was gigantic and finally assuaged my cravings. Over dinner, we were already talking about the next time we go back.
