This was our first time at Famous Toastery. Came here on Sunday for brunch around 12:30pm. The hostess said the wait would be 15-20min, but we were seated in about 5min. So that was def a plus. I ordered the Vanilla Latte to start and that was very tasty. We considered ordering mimosas, but then found our they were $7. In my opinion, that is a bit too pricey for a regular mimosa. The breakfast/brunch menu has a lot of different options and items to choose from and the prices were pretty reasonable. I ordered the Two Eggs any Style entree, which came with breakfast potatoes and toast. I also ordered a side of sausage. My husband ordered the Classic Flapjack combo, which came with eggs and sausage. Our food came out fairly quickly, and they give you a decent amount. While we both agreed that the breakfast potatoes were tasty, everything else was just okay. The sausage patties could've been browned a little longer and the toast was pretty dry. Overall, the hostesses, waitresses, and manager were all super nice and helpful. However, I don't think I would go out of my way to visit this location again. read more

It's like waffle house except 4 times more expensive. The prices are nonsensical; their profit margins on a 10 cent waffle or toast must be astounding. They also are incapable of cooking an egg any way other than scrambled or sunny side up, and the concept of over easy or over medium is seemingly impossible for them to grasp. Stopped by on a Saturday morning, and even though the place was only 2/3 full, they had to stop taking orders for 20 minutes because the kitchen was so backed up. Then when we got our food the bacon was almost burned the toast was cold the pancake was cold, luckily the syrup was hot. I love diners, but this place is just okay. There is nothing stand-out, and the basics are pretty basic. I've gone multiple times and not even got a refill on my coffee, and even when I have, it's not like a real diner would. I feel like a lot is missing in just the way they do service there. In concept, everyone is your sever, as they work on a team. But, in this system, no one is your server. You deal with a bunch of people who are not vested, and no one to keep track. We love the Famous Toastery food chain. After recently moving to the South Charlotte area we are now right down the street from the Tega Cay location. We've been to this location about three times and each time it gets worse. Today was New Years Day, so we expected it to be a bit busy. But the wait to be seated actually wasn't bad. We might have waited two minutes for them to wipe off a table. We ordered the breakfast bowl and cinnamon raisin French toast. The breakfast bowl didn't quite taste right. Something was off with the sausage. My husband said it tasted like tofu. But the potatoes in it were delicious. I had the French toast and I normally get the stuffed French toast, which is usually good. But today I tried something different and got the cinnamon raisin French toast. It was very disappointing. It tasted like they put the toast in a toaster and sprinkled some cinnamon, raisins and powdered sugar on it. Also, my husband ordered OJ which looked terrible and tasted like sunny delight. Nothing appetizing about it. By the end of our stay the juice part floated to the top and with water was at the bottom. It looked like a science project. The food was very disappointing. The staff was okay. Our drinks didn't get refreshed as often as they should. We were literally out every time they finally came around to us asking if we wanted a refill. After today, this will be our last time visiting this location. read more

We visited The Famous Toastery on 5/2 around 8:30-9:00am. We had an excellent waitress who went the extra mile to be sure we were taken care of efficiently. I ordered the classic waffle which was delicious! My husband had the cinnamon raisin French toast, which he also enjoyed. For the price you pay and the amount of time you are there, it hits the spot. I've only eaten at Toast for breakfast. The food is fine. But $9.00 for pancakes and $10.00 for stuffed French toast (which at Toast is just jelly between the bread)? If this was French toast made from a wonderful egg challah and stuffed with fresh fruit and maybe a fresh fruit syrup? Heck yes, I wouldn't squabble with $10 or more. First timer and last timer. Went around 1030 on a Thursday.. You dont have a waiter so you can flag down anyone which is different to me but I roll with it. Got the 3 egg breakfast with toast and potatoes. It came out in about 5 mins(alarming to me) The eggs were decent. The potatoes were cold, flavorless, mushy outside and hard inside(undercooked and had been sitting) The toast was cool to the touch too. Coffee was menh. I head up to pay my bill.. It was around 11 bucks or so, I paid with 15. The cashier instead of handing my change to me just asks if I want to put the rest in the tip jar... I was going to leave the tip but that isnt how you do it. She mustve seen my face and started to correct herself but I just let it ride and chalked it up to a loss. I've taken folks here on several occasions and to date they yet to disappoint. Fair warning: Be prepared to wait a bit before being seated! It's a popular brunch destination. One cool thing about FT is they have adopted a program where "every server is your server" and I think that is very helpful because it doesn't necessarily leave you sitting there waiting on your original server if they 'disappear!' When it comes to the menu, there is plenty to choose from and typically takes me a bit to decide what I want - even if I roll in thinking I have a slight idea what I'm craving! I haven't really been disappointed by any of the food. Some of the drinks are questionable... my girlfriend ordered the bakon bloody mary and it very confusing how it came out almost 'frozen?' - the crushed I was a weird way to do it... I also ordered a peach bellini (my first) and I didn't necessarily care for it (not sure how to compare to others since it was my first.) The food is always on point and always fulfilling! There is no walking away hungry. You definitely pay a premium for it, but it comes out as described and I've never had to send anything back - which is always a plus... The menu seemed nice and I didn't care for the prices. Am I dining with royalty? I ordered from the breakfast menu, I believe it was the Country Benedict. 2 eggs over medium, served on a split biscuit with country ham and sausage gravy. Along with a hot cup of coffee, as the morning temperatures were in the mid 30s, I was looking forward to a harty hot breakfast. My son ordered a wrap sandwich. The food presentation was delightful, it looked appetizing with the country ham on top of the biscuit, then the eggs, with a spoonful of sausage gravy, which appeared thick, and it was very thick, I was able to cut it with a knife. I was anticipating my first bite to be scrumptious but it ended in disaster. The country ham was so salty, it was as if someone accidentally poured a carton of salt on the meat and left it there. I couldn't taste the egg nor the gravy. I was able to taste the biscuit a bit. Was nice, but not worth the $11.00 of nice. I looked for a server to take back the food, but they must have that maneuver well timed not to appear after serving "food". I hate wasting food, so I ate the one with all the fixings, biscuit, ham, gravy, and egg. I looked for a server, and no one around, nor did anyone come back to check and see if this ocean water catastrophe was good! The second half of the biscuit breakfast ordeal, I removed the briny meat hoping it would make a difference, it did, a little. I stared at the meat and pondered as I chewed the salty remanent of its flavor in the gravy and remaining egg; "How old is this piece of meat? Why does it have so much fat on it? Parts of it is crunchy and parts of it, seems, mushy". My son and I muddled through the meal. Finally a server arrived with the check "How is everything?" Famous Toastery was one of the first establishments I visited after moving to Charlotte. I'm a grits fanatic, but the only thing resembling a traditional Southern grit in Hawaii was rice. They have rice everywhere and look at you dumbfounded when you ask about grits. "What's a grit?" Now Famous Toastery does understand what a grit is. They make them not to hot and not to cold. They're just right. They even have a fantastic taste that requires very little, if any, additional butter or pepper, let alone cheese. Grits are not the only southern delicacy in their repetoir. They have a full selection of comfort foods ranging from their Pumpkin Spice Pancakes, which we had in November, to the Greek Omelet with spinich, onion, tomatoes & feta. I had that on Sunday. I have not ventured much beyond their standard fare. I've had their toast, some eggs, and a few slices of bacon. We had the hash browns too: although that was more like a roasted potato dish. It was good, but nothing more. Their eggs Benedict and Florentine are likely part of my future as well as their Buffalo Chicken and Blue Cheese Wrap. In fact, all of their wraps look and sound delicious. Although I generally think of this joint as a breakfast stop, their menu is beyond extensive. It's borderline encyclopedic. From sandwiches and burgers to salads and meatloaf, I think they've covered your pallate. They even have tofu if you're the sort that prefers to go meatless. To go orders have been a challenge for me on the occasions I chose not to dine in. It often takes much longer when you call ahead than waiting to be seated and served. I live 15 or so minutes away and when I call I'm told it'll take 10 minutes. Unfortunately when I arrive 20 or so minutes later, they are usually still preparing my meal. I've waited as much 15 more minutes at least once after arriving. That wasn't to my liking. Also things usually get missed on these orders. Didn't get the toast this last go around. Bummer. Love that toast. Another challenge with their to go orders is their boxes are paper based. If you're planning to drive somewhere make sure you get there fast. The box falls apart fast: it's like serving steaks on a paper plate in my opinion. I know it's environmentally friendly and all, but by the time I get home the food is just a bit to soggy for my liking. The omelets are easy to resuscitate on the grill or in the microwave, but potatoes and bread can get messy. I usually have to put those sorts of things in the toaster oven to drown out the paper taste they absorb. A good to go box should last at least a half hour in my opinion. All in all, I give their food a 5. It's great comfort food. They have a lot of choices and I could take all my meals here for a month without trying the same thing twice. Their service is a 3. They always seem rushed and that can make for a less enjoyable experience, especially when their is a line of folks waiting to get in. I'd also say their atmosphere is a solid 4. It's nice inside and they have a decent waiting area when there's a crowd. They even serve beverages outside while you wait. If it weren't for the less than stellar to go experiences, I'd rate this place a 4. I think they are a solid 3 for the moment and I'll keep trying them out and update in the future. read more

Hello Jason, I'm glad to know you have a passion and pride in your work. But, I am stating the facts of my visit. I did not order nor comment on the lobster. The syrup is good. My comment was on the pancake itself. I did not realize I needed to request my pancake flavor to be mixed in. If I would have ordered chocolate chip pancakes, are the chips just sprinkled on top? And as far as the sausage patties go, they ARE the exact same as McDonalds sausage. As stated, my daughter even agreed but she actually LIKES McDonalds sausage so she knows EXACTLY what it tastes like. I also said that it was replaced for me. I did speak to a manager. That's who replaced the sausage! Yes. I explained it tasted like McDonalds. I did not swoop into your restaurant to write a bad review. We WANTED to have a good experience. I'm being honest in my critics and experience. Sometimes it can offend as it seems to have you. But I did try to rectify some of it with a manager and it was handled well. No attitude or remarks. It was not taken personally. Just an apology and resolved. By the time we got to the pancake, it wasn't worth it to say anymore. I paid our entire bill, without incident or holding up other customers, and we left. Please remember that if you come across another displeasing critic, just apologize and try to resolve it. I came for breakfast at about 9am on a Saturday morning. It was a little busy but not terribly packed. The service was excellent, from the hostess to the busboy. GET THE COFFEE. I can't stress enough how good the coffee is. I had The Usual omelet which was sausage cheese and onion. It came with stone ground grits and toast. Before the food came the server brought two slices of cornbread with apple butter. Yum! I was only disappointed with the side of bacon. It had good flavor but it was soft and a little cold. It is a little pricey... My one meal cost $20 with tip. For breakfast that's a bit much but considering the quality of the food, I guess you get what you pay for. As a Southerner I judge a breakfast place on their grits and their biscuits and sausage gravy. This is a very good breakfast joint. I do enjoy stopping in with the family. Sausage gravy is nice and creamy. Grits are a little runny but it's not a deal breaker. Perfect eggs, fluffy biscuits. It is a tad cramped but at the same time it's nice to see a place thrive so it's easily able to be looked over. Really wish the entrance and exit wasn't through one door.
