We decided we wanted something light for dinner (more on this later lol) so we stopped at Fancy Koi & Grill for the first time. It's a fairly new place that we've heard great things about. They're on Regency Blvd, just south of Home Depot and a little east of the AMC Theater. As I said, we decided we wanted something light, so we started with Edamame for an appetizer. I'll tell you this much: the gave you a huge portion for the price! It's a fairly basic appetizer so there's not a lot else to report but the portion size did stick out to me. I went in knowing I'd just be ordering one roll instead of a couple like I usually do so I settled on the Lucky Dragon Roll. What a fantastic roll! I don't use this descriptor a lot, but it was nearly a melt in your mouth type of thing. Really fresh ingredients that works well together then just seemed to desolve (in a good way) into taste. So here's the funny part, at least to me. Even though our intent was to order light, my wife ordered a Tofu Teriyaki Dinner Brenton box. Her thinking was "I'll get to try 'a little' of everything". Well "a little" is not the way to describe this box . I'm not even sure if my photo does it justice but the portions of each piece were huge! She did end up trying "a little" of each piece and she liked all of it. The things that stood out to me from what she said was that she really, really liked the texture of the tofu. She also liked that the shumai was lightly fried instead of steamed. She was also surprised the Cali Roll had 9 big pieces instead of the usual 4 or 5 small pieces you get in a box. This is another place we've heard a lot about that I'm glad we finally stopped at. There's a lot more on the menu we'd stop back in to try sooner than later. They're located fairly close to us as well, so that's always a bonus.

Fancy Koi & Grill 9527 Regency Square Blvd, Suite 107, Jacksonville, FL 32225 A stylish new addition to Jacksonville's food scene, Fancy Koi & Grill brings together sushi, hibachi, and wings in a setting that's as elegant as it is welcoming. The interior immediately stands out--warm lighting, tasteful Japanese elements, and an atmosphere that suits everything from quick lunches to relaxed dinners. The menu features fresh cuts of fish, sizzling hibachi plates, and flavorful entrées that make dining here a pleasant experience. The sushi is well-presented, and dishes like teriyaki and tempura deliver satisfying flavor and texture. However, there's one trend that deserves attention--and not just here, but at many sushi spots: the overuse of cream cheese in rolls. While it can add richness, it often becomes more of a filler than a thoughtful ingredient. It masks the delicate flavors of the fish, creates a heavy bite, and shifts the experience from refined Japanese sushi to something closer to a creamy snack roll. After visiting Japan, it's clear that traditional sushi focuses on fresh fish, rice, and balance--not cream cheese. Sushi shines when its flavors speak for themselves. Removing or reducing cream cheese would elevate the authenticity, allowing ingredients like tuna, salmon, avocado, and nori to take center stage--exactly how sushi was meant to be enjoyed. Overall, Fancy Koi & Grill has a beautiful atmosphere and plenty of potential. With a few refinements--starting with dialing back the cream cheese--it could easily become a standout spot for sushi lovers in Jacksonville. The service is friendly and warm.

Why am I just finding out about this place? Just finished dinner and it was great! Place is cute, clean, and the service is excellent! But the food? Phenomenal!!

The food was delicious! The service was excellent! I love the cute little tables and decor!

Delicious. I'm a sushi connoisseur, and I have never been this surprised by the freshness of sushi in a little hidden spot. Everything was incredible. The only thing I regret was not getting more. A very tidy place and the server was so sweet. I will definitely be coming back

Left plate is Vegetable Tempura. Right plate is Gyoza pan fried.

I made a reservation and we arrived on time. We stood in the front awkwardly for about 10 minutes while the host and the host that she was training bickered about where they were going to seat us. The manager caught onto what was happening and did offer us a starter to compensate for that, which was nice. Unfortunately the service still felt lacking throughout. I saw my drink sit at the bar for quite a while while my husband sipped his beer. The server was super sweet, but not as attentive as I'd expect especially since it wasn't busy. The fish tasted fresh and mostly everything was really good. My favorites were the drama queen roll, the blood orange akami, and the truffle unagi roll. I wouldn't get the truffle enoki mushrooms again- the texture was off (chewy/stringy). The cocktail I got was the nori margarita and didn't feel it was anything special. The glass and straw it was served in was kind of throwing it off for me. I'd go a different drink route next time. I liked the vibe of the restaurant and felt like the ambience was great for date night. It had a sexy feel. I wish there was music or if there was I didn't notice it, because I could hear everything the table next to me was saying. They also brought a refreshing treat for my husband's birthday. We'd be open to coming back.

Prior reservations were made so we were quickly seated. The aesthetics of this place is so nice and the service is on the same level. We were bringing the whole family and hoping for a fun night, but unfortunately the experience didn't match the ratings. From the start, the tone felt off. When I called to make the reservation, the host immediately said, "We don't seat incomplete parties. We only wait 5 minutes or we give the table away." The policy itself is understandable, but the delivery came across harsh and unwelcoming. A more thoughtful approach like, "We kindly ask that your full party arrives within 5 minutes, otherwise we may need to seat other guests," would have felt very different. When we arrived early and asked if we could be seated sooner (with the rest of our party just minutes away), we were met with the same response again, which felt unnecessary given that there were several empty tables. Unfortunately, the service inside didn't improve. Our initial waiter was inattentive and at times dismissive. We had to ask for basic things like utensils and plates for shared appetizers, and the responses often came with an unwelcoming tone. At one point, when I asked for a plate and knife to share, the interaction became uncomfortable, and I ended up asking to speak with someone. The situation was handled poorly, and the waiter did not return. On the food side, I ordered the Massaman chicken curry at the lowest spice level, and it was still too spicy to enjoy. That said, most of my family did enjoy their meals, which I appreciated. Thankfully, a different waitress stepped in later and was kind and attentive--if the service had been like that from the beginning, the experience likely would have been very different. I also spoke with the manager, Jorge, who was receptive to the feedback and said he would address the issues, which I did appreciate. Overall, I was really disappointed given the strong reviews and the lively atmosphere happening around us. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I wouldn't return.

We started with the edamame, with the sea salt and truffle oil, which is always delicious. The service over the evening was very slow, and we spent a lot of time waiting on food. We sat in our favorite spot at the bar window so our server also appeared the be working behind the bar and was busy making drinks. We love sake and usually get a bottle of the Noble Arrow. We asked for a recommendation and the server recommended the Soul of the Sensei, which is $107 for the bottle. We were celebrating our 24th anniversary so we went for it. He said it was on the dry side, but we found it very unexpectedly sweet, almost like a moskato wine. It wasn't surprising when we read the back of the label and saw the flavor profile was all the way on the fruity side, with notes of Muscat grape. We definitely made a mistake by not tasting it first, so we ended up asking for a bag to take it home and ordered 2 glasses of the Noble Arrow. It was a disappointing start. Next we ordered the yellowtail carpaccio, which was very good, although the size of the fish pieces overall seemed smaller than usual. Everything we ordered over the evening was undeniably tasty, but small. We got the Usuzukuri salmon and when they brought it, they had the tuna carpaccio as well. The person who brought it said it was a gift. Later, we were charged $2 on the bill for the "gift." It's not much, but it's just that giving us a gift and then putting a charge on the bill for it was very strange. Overall, I still love the food at O-Ku, but this was not the best experience. We had gone there previously for our anniversary and they made it feel special. This time there wasn't any kind of recognition besides possibly the "gift" we had to pay extra for. And the service was so slow that we ended up drinking the bottle of sake we didn't like rather than waiting for another drink order. Every place will have its off nights, and this unfortunately seemed to be one of them. I would still recommend going there, because even though the portions are tiny and expensive, the taste is delicious.
