I am SUPER PROTECTIVE of my face. Like seriously, I rarely wear makeup except for special occasions like being part of a bridal party or milestone birthday. I do my daily regimen (wash then moisturize with SPF). So you can imagine my level of anxiety after being nudged/bullied by my younger sister who used the "aging" card to get a facial. With a Groupon voucher in hand, I made it to the Waxing Studio NYC. It was gorgeous and exuded femininity - pink, beautiful mirrors, and calligraphy. Sweetie was a sweetheart. I told her that I was a first-timer and nervous. Why? I have often heard from friends and makeup artists that I had great skin. If it ain't broke, then fix it. Right? She instantly put me at ease and said that I was in good hands. The bed needed a few more inches in width to really be comfortable, but I laid with my hands clasped on my stomach. I was kinda ready for my 30-minute exfoliation and extraction facial. The steam was overwhelming (but necessary), so I had to breathe through my mouth. I couldn't tell you what was used on my skin, but it smelled and felt great until the dreaded extraction process. No pain, no gain. You will experience minor pressure, but totally manageable and worth it. Blackheads, be gone! My skin is as smooth as a baby's bottom and glistening (not the pregnancy glow). Got my eyebrows waxed for 6 bucks + tip and have minimal regrets at the end. I think threading is the best way to make sure your eyebrows look fantastic but take the longest and is the most painful (compared to wax vs threading). Wanted a place who was willing to wax not thread my brows. They waxed them and finished with threading. Seriously I have to be mentally prepared for threading, so when she finished waxing and told me to hold my skin to properly thread, I was super disappointed. Overall she did a fine job. I purchased a groupon for myself & when I went to make an appointment the lady who answered seemed nice and welcoming, for the most part. But when she found out I had a groupon her attitude changed immediately and she went from asking me what time I wanted my appointment to asking: "Do you want to buy the groupon or did you already buy it?" In a harsh tone. I wanted to ask the difference between the 2 facials they offered to see which would benefit me the most. As a customer, I believe it's a simple question. She just said "they're both good" and unfortunately left me with my question unanswered. As I wanted to ask my second question, she cut me off & rudely said "can you tell me what you want, I don't have time for this I'm very busy." So feeling pressured and surprised by her abrupt attitude, I said I wanted the diamond facial. She quickly said "ok" and hung up the phone immediately without even confirming the appointment or saying goodbye. If this how they treat customers before they even go in simply for having a Groupon THEY offer, I don't even want to know what kind of job they will do. Needless to say, I exchanged my voucher for a better a deal & I won't be attending the appointment. Save yourself the trouble and go to a spa that is professional. My question this business is: why would you guys offer a deal if you're going to get so angry at people for using them? You get what you pay for. I had a Groupon for a $15 facial that is normally $25. I didn't set expectations very high. The ladies are nice. The facial was 1 minute cleanser, 2 minutes exfoliating with St. Ives Apricot Scrub, 20 minutes under the steamer, 1 minute of extractions, 1 minute of lotion "massage", and 15 minutes of Queen Helene Mint Julep mask. All over-the-counter products, as expected. The exfoliation was too rough though. My skin felt almost raw when the cold air hit my face. The place is fluorescent and felt more like an old, grungy doctor's office. Somehow, it wasn't entirely awful but my biggest peeve is that she did not remove all of the scrub or mask. I had to go to the bathroom to wash off the rest of the products as much as I could and hours later, I'm still finding pieces of the scrub all over my skin and clothes. She used gloves so she likely did not feel the leftover scrub. read more

This place was OK. I've been to plenty of waxing salons around NYC and I wasn't impressed, or disgusted by the premises. I came here because I had a Groupon which, side note, you CANNOT book an appointment in advance so if you're trying to go on your lunch break keep in mind you might be waiting 15-30 minutes. The wax wasn't great, she used the same strip multiple times (obviously trying to be conservative) and I prefer new, clean strips every time. She also missed a few spots and didn't go over with tweezers so the hair is already growing back. Would I return? No because I know other places that do a better waxing job and actually allow you to book an appointment BEFORE showing up. read more

Don't know if I just went on an off day or if the person treating me really didn't want to work on a Sunday. However, here I am unfortunately extremely disappointed. I really try not to complain about these things because I get it - it's a weekend and I'm here with a Groupon so, it's not even like I'm paying full price for this service. The person doing mine and my bf's facial's was on the phone the entire time which is fine if she was able to multitask. Next, during the extraction she is literally pressing her body weight on me to get stuff out of my nose and misses an entire portion of surface area even after the fact. Then, she goes out to eat - while leaving my face with whatever else they use for more than the 10 minutes she stated was needed. When she finally comes back to take it off I can immediately note she didn't wash her hands because I can smell the food on her fingertips. But, the ultimate cherry on top of it all was that I had to ask her for moisturizer because my face was so incredibly dry it was flaking. I was there with a $15 Groupon for a $25 exfoliation facial. The place was clean and welcoming. Sweety (the lady who did my facial) was very friendly and explained that the Groupon facial was just the basic cleaning and exfoliation that they normally do before the Gold and Diamond facial. But that's okay I guess, one cannot expect to get much from a $15 facial. The facial itself was okay too...the steam, scrub and mask exfoliated the skin well leaving it soft and clean. I've only came here to get my brows done and every time the ladies do a very good job at executing what I want done. However the customer service is a hit or miss. One instance I had a fabulous lady threading my brows, I wish I remembered her name because she was great. Another instance, I had Jatinder and while very skilled, she was not very professional. I had to ask her to sanitize her hands because she went in between touching the door and front desk station to touching my face. She also had her mask down when I went to go pay which is super upsetting either way. Plus the business had not made it clear that they were only taking cash that day when I had gone in despite on their door it said they took card, otherwise I would've brought cash. Easier to get an appointment with a doctor than here. Not worth wasting your time, even though it is an affordable place. Service is very poor and getting an actual appointment to get anything done is extremely frustrating. Even if you do manage to get a service it will almost always be rushed through. They are okay, if you want a quick short service like eyebrow etc. but not for services that require longer times like body waxing. They look clean outside, however their overall cleanliness is very average to not so clean in the cubicles. They gave me a very old dirty, oily, smelly used towel to use to cover myself while waxing. I have seen the same towel hanging there for months. I have been going to this place for over 3 years now. I used to go especially for Manisha for waxing and she was very good. She abruptly left last year. I have had issues with the salon ever since. Sweety who sort of replaced Manisha is impossible to work with and the most unco-operative. Earlier, I used to always walk-in and waited for 15-20 mins and was always attended to. Sweety will always send me back whether I have an appointment or not. First off, she refused to accept that they used to take walk-ins before. After which I started to always take an appointment. They are perpetually understaffed. She will always say she is busy. I live next door, I see that the salon hardly has any clients on most days. Since most of the time there is only one person handling the salon, they always rush through your appointment and do a shoddy job. I went to them because of the convenience. Last week I took prior appointment for waxing and. Sweety without even glancing at the appointment register flat out said there is no booking for me. I showed her my name and the time, yet she repeated that she is busy. It has gotten more and more frustrating dealing with them both Mahi and Sweety. Mahi is good with waxing though. She is always pressed for time. For 2 weeks in a row Mahi has told me the same (pre-recorded excuse I guess) that she cannot take me in for waxing as she has 2 facials to do that day. I cannot understand why 2 facials take up her entire day?! Sweety has never done my waxing for past year she has only sent me back for lack of time. After 2 weeks of struggle this time, I have finally given up and booked myself an appointment elsewhere. I went in for eyebrow threading and though the lady was nice, she literally threaded my skin off. I had so many scratches on both sides of my face. Also, I could tell her technique wasn't great because she was making really big loops with the threat and that shit hurt! She apologized but I shouldn't have as many scratches as I did. Parts were slightly bleeding. For my upper lip, again it was so rough. I really had to fight back tears. I didn't get her name so it could be a one off experience but I doubt I will be returning. Today I got waxed my Varsha and it was soooo good. So I got my Brazilian, underarms, stomach, eyebrows, upper lip, and lower legs wax and threaded. She was super nice, patient, AND FAST. I got the chocolate wax for the Brazilian. She worked so fast that the pain level was a solid 5 for 5 secs. I really like how she explained the different reasons for my hair growth and the aftercare. So disappointed. My first visit went terrific, but I can't believe my end results this second time around. The woman seemed a bit distracted as she kept talking to her coworker. I figured it wouldn't be an issue since I felt her outline the outer part of my eyebrows with what felt like Vaseline before putting on the henna. However, the end result was insane and I think she noticed when she saw my reaction in the mirror. She said she needed to clean a few edges up with some kind of solution. I asked her to clean a bit more off afterwards, but she said the solution is not meant for the skin. She touched it up some more and that was it. So I discovered this place on Groupon as I browsed over and over was looking for nice place and better deal. Then I found the best deal. The best part is they do Brazilian waxing for $17 and don't forget tax. Some of us are very ignorant and make a big deal of paying $2 tax. Groupon has the best deals in the city but they never cover tax on services like massages or facial etc. you can get deals on apps like living Social or fever. Living Social is owned by Groupon just a good to know information. Most of the places will honor the same prices instead of buying Groupon you could pay them straight the same price but you need to call and check with the merchant before you buy the voucher. Appointments are required as they are fully booked. The exfoliating facials starts from like $25 or so. Geeta is great. She has done facials both the time. The only cons are that the other lady is loud and on the phone sometimes and the loud Bollywood music. Rest all is great. The place is clean and they are kind. read more
