So I asked if they could tell me what the size is of the main courses that come with the family meal and the employee sighed and said "Sir, we are really busy I can't answer-" and then I hung up. To get the correct perspective, this restaurant is located in Ontario, Oregon where the Chinese population is almost non-existent. I remember eating here in 1970 when visiting family and my father said it has been around since the late 50's. Being from Seattle with tons of Chinese friends and eating at Chinese restaurants frequently, I consider myself as a semi-expert on Chinese food. And this is American Chinese food. You will get filled up on the food since the portions are decent and you won't get sick from it. But it just isn't the Chinese cuisine that I'm used to. I gave this place 2 stars since the service was good, everyone is friendly and the portions were good. I'm picky about my food. I don't really recommend this place, hence the 2 stars. read more

I went in with apprehension, most of the Chinese places in the whole area. Don't serve Chinese food like I'm used to. I have the chow mein with pan. Fried noodles was pretty good. It was lacking a little flavor. I had a egg roll with the egg was very unique. I think it was one of the better eggrolls. I've had handmade not a little round one. It was fluffy like a pastry and pretty tasty, that was mistake. I'm supposed to get young so I got young and young usual brown sauce. It was a brown ginger sauce which was really good soup pretty much typical had a great waitress. She buried with me with all my indecisiveness. We have limited exposure to Chinese food in Ontario as we were just paying a short visit but this was on our way to the interstate, we were hungry, it was dinner time--so we took a chance and stopped in. this store appeared to be one of the more popular places for local diners as a steady influx of diners came in while we were eating. It is standard American/Chinese fare with few surprises so I would not expect gourmet delights. We all had combination plates that arrived piping hot and in substantial quantities , and with one exception the food was very good. The only downside to both of us who had it was the sweet and sour pork. It was exceptionally dry and tough-so much so I thought it was beef-and severely overcooked. Since I'm a local, I know what to order & what not to order: I go in for the Mongolian Beef (Extra Spicy). For people coming from out of town, I can't say I would recommend this restaurant too highly. It's okay - fine if you're just looking for generic chinese fast-food. The table was dirty. There was food was stuck to the table. When I got my food the rice was old and hard. My egg roll was burnt but the worst part was that I found a hair on one of the pieces. My experience with Far East was quite pleasant. I ordered over the phone for my family of five, which turned out to be a rather large order. The woman who took my order was very patient and pleasant, and she repeated the order back to me, which always makes me happy. When I got there, the place was mostly empty, understandable for an early afternoon on a weekday, when most people are still working, but the general vibe was comforting. It almost reminded me of an old diner. The Asian aesthetic is almost non-existent, but I'm willing to dismiss that. The amount of food that was handed to me was well worth the $80 I spent there already, and that was before I even tasted it. I walked out with three bags of food that day. I don't know who the chef is there, but I applaud them immensely. That food was delicious, and my mouth is watering just writing this review. I will happily order more from them when I can, and I recommend it to anyone who can afford to spend extra. read more

This is our favorite Chinese restaurant. We go to Canada just for this and have the same set of order all the time. We usually order several different dishes for us to share instead of a combo or set meal for each person. Our faves: House Specialty Chicken, Honey Garlic Spare Ribs, Black Pepper Beef, Chicken with Almonds, Sweet n Sour Chicken, Pork Fried Rice, and Chicken Fried Rice. We leave the restaurant feeling full and satisfied but still able to bring a LOT of leftover that we eat at home for the next few days lol and oh it's cheap! We pay no more than $100 usd for 7 dishes that can feed 6-7 people. read more

Been coming here for many years. Always a good, basic Chinese fix. Lots of fried, crispy goodies! Great egg rolls, always fresh out of the fryer. The sweet n' sour and mandarin sauces taste the same (overpowered with vinegar), fried rice dry and tasteless, pan-fried noodles coated in gooey (oyster?) sauce that was difficult to swallow (so much sauce!), and the only redeeming quality was it was served fast and they have huge koi in a fish tank. My husband and I are driving across the country, and visited my grandparents in Ontario. They wanted to go out for their 64th anniversary, and they chose Far East. I'm not a big fan of Chinese food, and when we pulled up to the restaraunt, I wasn't expecting much. The exterior looked aged and unkempt. Inside was clean but aged as well. The menu offered typical Chinese and some Japanese fare. All four of us ordered the lunch specials- I believe we all got Mandarin chicken. At $6 a plate, I wasn't expecting high quality. But we all were served tea and egg drop soup by our attentive waitress. When our entrees came, I was shocked- all white breast meat, cooked to perfection. I mean it- perfection. Taste was incredible as well. I was in disbelief. Overall- the ambience wasn't there, but the food and service was on point. read more

While it won't win awards for decor, the food was good. Wife and I ordered the special and received it in good time and it was OK. We had Mandarin Orange chicken and Hong Kong Chop Suey if I remember right. The Chicken was cooked well with the skin nice and crisp while the meat was juicy. The sauce over it was out of a can and not exciting. But not bad. The Chop Suey was a little heavy on celery, but it was a vegetable Chop Suey and the veggies were crisp and fresh not canned. Price was really nice, coming in at $9 a plate. Will go back again. read more
