Don't do it unless you want a lot of fatty fried food for less than $5 that will last you three meals. The place looks promising as a true Chinese place from the outside but inside, it is dingy, weird smelling, and there was no Chinese person in sight, noone working there was Chinese! The lunch was exceptionally cheapcheapcheap because of the HUGE portions and came with egg foo young soup but the fried shrimp, "far man" chicken, and sweet and sour pork were battered to oblivion, and their BBQ pork had no flavor. Ew. The pot stickers were obviously from a discount store, freezer burnt, and then over fried. The pad thai had a total of five shrimp on it. The crab cream cheese puffs had imitation crab and very little cream cheese and was extremely dry. Me and a coworker decided to try this little American/Chinese restaurant on our hour lunch. The restaurant itself had a rustic feel, similar to a couple of my favorite A&C restaurants back home. The service was welcoming and the seating comfortable. Little would prepare me for the food I would experience. The egg flower soup was slime ridden and crawled down my throat, the BBQ pork was oddly discolored in some portions, and the crab puffs was the cherry on top of the intense sense of regret I felt returning to my cubicle. Late night dinner, and Dennys did not sound good. Wife and myself ordered the number dinner, Americanized but good. The egg flower soup was good, and I didn't see any mystery meat. It was chicken. The only grip I had was there is way to much food. But what kills me is the price for dinner for two cost less than Dennys basic breakfast for two. If back in the area, I will skip lunch and try to eat the plate of food they serve. I don't expect good service anymore unless I spend forty plus per serving. The cheapest Asian food you'll find in the county, but for a reason. You get big portions for $6-7. Just don't look too hard at what you're eating. I got one of the big shrimp egg rolls and it was grey inside. The kind of grey that seems to suck all color from the world around it. No pink from shrimp and no green from veggies. Just one big grey blob surrounded in soggy brown egg bread. I didn't notice at first because I was famished and going to town and had covered most of it with dipping sauce, but my girlfriend pointed it out and I stopped eating post-haste. I imagine the horror that covered my face was sort of comical. It's become a long-standing joke for us: the unfathomable "Greyggroll." We actually went back again because it was so cheap and you get so much. Neither time have we gotten food poisoning, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened. The other restaurant clientele we did see (one or two people) were elderly and eating American food. Perhaps that's the secret? Also, only Caucasians work there, which is probably why the food all looks like slop and people were eating American food. The waitress was nice. Most people have mentioned the regulars in the bar. We didn't go into the bar because it looked slightly terrifying and loud hoots and hollering was emanating from the doorway. We peaked in as we walked by. It sort of looked and sounded like a cave of wild animals you instinctively wouldn't go near. It's filled with the sort of bar-fly, drink-cheap-beer-and-gamble-all-day types of older, rough-looking people. One might assume they come from all the low-income housing located directly behind the joint. One also might assume that this is how the place stays in business. I think this was the worst restaurant I've been to in Eugene/Springfield area. We got the all you can eat, noodles were old, hard and stale. Everything seemed like it had been sitting for hours. Even when they brought out "fresh" rice, it wasn't that good. I will not be going back here. read more

I went through all the rigamarole of registering to this site, just so I could leave this review. I've been living in the Eugene/Springfield area since I was 14. I am now well over.....let's say 40. I've tried multiple Chinese Restaraunts, even the over-rated "authentic" Chinese food ones. FAR MAN is GREAT! My AMERICAN stomach isn't used to sqid, sushi, monkeys eyeballs (okay, I'm exaggerating!), but I LIKE Americanized Chinese food. It's what I was raised on and what I like after trying the other kind. FAR MAN has outstanding food, of the type they do. Their BBQ'd Pork isn't fatty, the food is fresh and hot, and the flavor is recognizable as well as tasty. Okay, the atmosphere isn't going to win any awards....BUT, you don't pay an extra $50+ to get the quiet booths, the submissive waiters and the quiet lighting with music. You go there for good food, and you get good food! Food Snobs......just stay away and save us your crappy comments! read more

Wow, the other posts are all so old. If you haven't tried the Far Man lately, or at all, I highly recommend that you do. The Far Man has remodeled the restaurant, updated the menu and removed the buffet. The food is cooked to order, the serving sizes are generous, the staff is friendly and the prices are quite reasonable. So for Eugene this is one of the best places to go if you want good Chinese food. The service is awesome and super friendly, the food is really awesome, price is awesome, seating is nice as well as the location of the restaurant. A MILLION times better than Kowloon which is disgusting and over priced... Only Chinese place I will go to now is House of Chen. If you do can't figure out what to get there is not a single thing on the menu that is bad, it is ALL good! Yes... I have been there that many times and have tried everything on their menu!!! I had Pony Express deliver several items for dinner. The food seemed ok and tasted fine but within hours I was vomiting, diarrhea, sweats, chills. Be careful with their food, doubtful it was Pony Express as the food came very hot so contamination was probably at the restaurant. I contacted the Health Dept. they believe it was either food poisoning or Norovirus, possibly from a restaurant worker. read more

Do not eat here. Period. If you do go there, smell the place as you enter. It smells unclean aka dirty. Turn around and leave. There's a Subway in the same parking lot. All workers were wearing dirty clothes. Our waitress was personable even advised us on what to eat. Later I figured this was because that was all they had or it was already ready. It arrived at our table too quickly for it to have been freshly cooked. What we ordered was all in batter so thick we started pulling chicken, shrimp and pork out to avoid eating so much batter. Did I talk about mystery meat, gristle and tiny shrimp yet? Egg flower soup was a tasteless yellow gooey substance. Bar was noisy, smelly and dark. Our Chardonnay was almost undrinkable. Worst experience ever! We went there on February 22, 2017 and it was so terrible we walked out. The host was gracious and kind, he tried to accommodate us as best he could, but the rest of the staff was awful. We first walked in to the "lounge" section, it was small and busy while the rest of place was empty, so the bartender was slightly overwhelmed and pretty rude. There was someone in the kitchen, which you have a clear view into from the bar, sitting on the floor playing on their cellphone and it looked like they didn't even work there. When the bartender fiinally got to us, we ordered 2 grape bombs which are drop shots and he literally dropped them for us and used his hand to stop the backsplash from coming out of the cup so I got nasty bar germs from his hand in my drink! what made us leave was the middle aged Caucasian "waitress" who was also rude, had no idea what amy of the orders were, was yelling them out across the dining room and someone who walked in literally in 15 mins got served but we were there for over an hour with no food! When our food finally came, im not sure if it was even the right dish because the waitress had no idea and im a vegetarian so im not taking any chances. The waitress tried to bring mi shu veggies which is what I ordered, but she called it mu shu chicken so I told her I didnt order mu shi chicken, I ordered mu shi veggies, AND SHE STICKS HER FINGERS IN MY FOOD AND STARTS DIGGING AROUND!!! Then she without saying anything gets up and takes my plate back to the kitchen and then a few minutes later comes back and comfirms "its egg, theres no meat in it." SHE TRIED TO BRING ME BACK THE SAME PLATE SHE STUCK HER FINGERS IN! And when I told her that because she stuck her fingers in it, I obviously can't eat it and we were tired lf waiting and we just wanted the check so we could leave, SHE STARTED ARGUING WITH US! My fiance had to step in and also say that he most definitely saw her touch my food with her fingers, and then she kind of guffawed at us and angrily stormed back to the kitchen. We still tipped the host who I think was the manager that night too because hes the person who apologized for the waitress. The food however looked really old too, it was literally grey and had very little life in it from what I saw. My fiance never actually got his plate, but what I saw from mine it looks like it was a blessing in disguise, im sure that waitress probably saved us from getting food poisoning by sticking her fingers in my meal and making it even more inedible. Chow mien with no noodles. The cashier said that the chow mien didn't come with any noodles or rice and said that the chow yuk was "the same thing" but came with rice and cheaper (it was more expensive). Ive never gotten chow yuk before, but the thick sauce they put everything in was disgusting. I wish that their menu had what they put in each dish, because I get a couple bites in and I find out it has peppers in it (Im allergic). read more

Yuk, I just spent $100.00 for 4 people to eat this garbage. This was a order to go, after getting it home, one of the meals were not even in the bag, had to call and return to get that meal so the 4th person had food. Chicken was like steak, needed a knife to cut it. Shrimp is rubbery and not de-shelled. Very disappointing. The Original ownership had good food, this is the second time eating there since new ownership has taken over. Both times now have been very disappointing. I don't think I will be eating there again, last night was very over priced and very very unappetizing. If you own a restaurant, you need to eat your own food and see how good it is. One star for merely existing, I guess... I had been eating here several times a year for the last 15 years or so and, while it was always a bit hit or miss, there were a couple dishes that I really liked. It is generally effing disgusting now. I brought my mother here for lunch and was totally embarrassed and concerned for her health(as well as mine) by the time we left. Her iced tea in a dirty glass tasted like mold and they flat did not give a flying whoop. "You want somethin' else?" Slime-soup. Everything deep-fried tasted like road kill. By the looks of the grungy dining area, I don't even wanna know what the kitchen looks like. And this is NOT "Americanized". I don't know any Americans that enjoy eating rancid meat. I would, though, recommend a trip through the bar for a double shot of 151 rum on your way out to 1) sterilize the glass you're drinking it out of and 2) to disinfect your gut of god knows whatever it was you just ate. We went there b/c it was one of the few places open on Christmas Day. What a terrible mistake that was. One dish with lobster sauce had huge chunks of seemingly uncooked onion. The Mar Far chicken was deep fried disappointment. Even the water was terrible and we had to send it back because of the noticeable medicinal taste. Frankly, I felt sorry for the help, who were friendly and did their best to accommodate. I used to enjoy their buffet a few years ago. But the quality seems to have taken a nose dive. read more

My family and I ate here on the 21st of March before I left on my vacation. I found that the food was great and huge portions. The downstairs was pretty dirty. It needs a good paint job. We have dined there on a few occasions and done take a few times, mostly because of larger portions of decent but not exceptional food. Tonight we brought home take out and started in on it right away. As we opened the boxes, three of them contained hairs, one of them actually had knotted up hairs wound up in the noodles. Im no priss. I work in a restaurant. One hair would give me pause, but I could consider the idea that it was ours. That may be gross, but its possible. But three, that's a hell no. My husband called and took the food back, rejecting the offer to remake the food. Sorry. 3 strikes, you're out. Things happen though, I understand. But what earned the bad Yelp review was the rude way the gal at the counter took the food, loudly chucked it in the trash in the back and then threw our money on the counter. Went to Far Man for lunch with my son. The egg flour soup was disgusting. The thickening agent was coagulated. Lumps, just weird and disgusting, told waiter and he said it always looks like that, no apology, told person at cash register after he asked if everything was alright and still no apology. Just ordered a combo platter off their online menu and found out a few unexpected things about their service. First off, the delivery service listed on their website no longer exists. They should probably update that in case someone wants delivery. Note also that although the menu says that combination platters include Egg Flower Soup, Hot Tea, and a Fortune Cookie, you only actually get the cookie if you order take out. So don't expect that soup and tea. Or demand it. I ordered the shrimp egg roll, sweet & sour chicken, and pork fried rice. Honestly it's not the best Chinese food out there, but i'm giving them a few points for being the only Chinese restaurant that's open past 10 PM in town on a Saturday night. The food, though bland, is a lot in quantity so it was definitely filling. Most surprising about the food was that the egg roll is giant. It looks like a small burrito.
