My in-laws live in town and I have always wanted to stop by and try the Chinese food. Over the past 10 years I have read various some good some not so good. Lately I noticed some customers posting some very positive comments leading me to take a leap of faith in trying the food. I was very impressed. I ordered the #3 Dinner combo. You get Mongolian beef, fried pork rice, Almond sauce Chicken and Fried Shrimp. Great portions all around. The Mongolian beef had lots of fresh veggies, lots of beef with great flavor and a slight hint of spice, it's very good. The Almond Chicken was great, it was my first time trying it, the pieces were large, the sauce was good but lacked a little flavor but well cooked. The fried rice with pork was surprisingly it greasy and great tasting. The 4-6 shrimp were hearty and were served with hot mustard and cocktail sauce . I would recommend this dish. I am looking forward to trying a few more dishes the next time I am in town. The interior has plenty of booths and tables, the staff was very busy but were very friendly. I rarely order from HoHo because their food is just ok. I recently ordered General Tso's Tofu which is supposed to be just tofu and two random pieces of broccoli were included. I would drive to Eugene or Portland for better Chinese food over this. If you are looking for Americanized food, go here. We've been hearing that things at Ho Ho have changed and improved. Well we are curious because we haven't been here in years. Yep, it's changed. It's clean, brightly lit, friendly staff and it smells good. The booths and tables look roomy enough with plenty of walkway area. So I asked the hostess if they are new management and she proudly responded 'Yes! 3 1/2 months now'. We placed an order to go and waited about 15 minutes. To start with, what is in these potstickers!? That flavor is incredible! A very deep and rich taste and full with ingredients. The Sweet and Sour Pork is cooked very well. It is tender with a nice coating of batter that is firmly attached to the bite size pieces of pork. The Beef Lo Mein is tender, flavorful and well seasoned. The noodles were done well and the sauce was rich and thick. Next was General Tso's Chicken. Again, well cooked bites of moist chicken. The sauce provides a little mild heat and the chicken flavor really comes through. We are very happy to see that Veneta now has good Chinese food and that we don't have to go all the way to Florence or Eugene to find some. read more

It is time for an update since my last review; I believe they are now under new ownership from what I am seeing on other social media. A lot of people have been raving about how the food has changed since the change in ownership. We decided to come in, and give this place a try again since hearing all of the rave, and also seeing it pretty packed, compared to how it used to be. I am going to have to agree with the other's, it is pretty good now, and makes me actually want to eat their food again. We had a few items off of their menu. I didn't take pics, I am sorry. We had the pot sticker, which were good, egg flower soup, was okay. But I am the one who likes the hot sour soup. He liked the egg flour soup. They were out of the hot sour soup. We also ordered the orange chicken. Probably one of the best we have found. Kung pao chicken, also one of the better ones we have had. The last dish we had was Mongolian beef. It was so tender, and full of flavor. Each dish was so different from the other, and hard to compare to each other so I can't tell you which one I liked the best. Each one was pretty good. I arrived early to pick up a to go order today. 1. It was sitting there on the table waiting and getting cold. 2. The Hot and Sour soup there is hardly anything in it and didn't taste like it used to. 3. The Sweet and Sour soup didn't taste right and was cold. 4. When I drove home and it only took me 2 minutes all of my food was cold. I have no idea how long my food was sitting there however when we are told a time it should be coming out around that time and not sitting on the table getting cold. This is a strange Chinese restaurant. The food isn't really authentic because it's more catered towards Americans who don't know or want authentic Chinese cuisine. The restaurant looks pretty rundown and from another era. The exterior and interior both look unkept and from the 70's. They sell cheap jewelry at the counter. This place also serves mediocre sushi, subpar to say the least and it doesn't look like their fish were freshly acquired, either. That's a scary and risky thing to do to eat uncooked raw fish that's been sitting around for hours if not days. As for their Chinese menu, it is what one can expect from a small Chinese restaurant in a small town with low Chinese clientele. Their menu is for foreigners who don't really have the basis for what real Chinese food is supposed to taste like. Their lunch menu is so much more for unacquainted taste that it can't even measure to that of Panda Express, and that's really bad. Service-wise, they're not too shabby. But eating at this restaurant is more a desperation than anything since there is really no competition in the area being it's the only Chinese restaurant in Veneta. I don't know why there isn't at least one other Chinese or Asian restaurant in this town of 5,000 + people, you would think it has enough business if the food were to be decent. The only other potential competitor is a food cart that service hibachi style Japanese food that's also mediocre and it's a food cart, so what can one expect? Veneta really should relax a bit and allow more franchises and businesses to open up in town. Incentivize so to attract more eatery businesses to come to Veneta if this town is to grow and develop. read more

We had take out from there last night. We usedto eat there occasionally when it was a real restaurant and the food was ok but nothing special. The food we got last night was not fit to eat. Must have been all precooked. The fried rice did have some small bits of bbq pork but nothing else. The bbq pork was eatable but very dry. The sweet and sour chicken was old and hard to chew. My dogs didn't like it. The almond chicken was tough, overcooked , dry , basically uneatable. No soups either and the prices are up but that's not unusual however it is take out and not expensive cuisine to make. We will never eat there again and we have been patrons there they at least three previous owners. I almost never leave a bad review but I'm making an exception this time in the hopes that we get some change. This is a smaller community and we need some good food diversity here. One star is too much for the quality of the food we received last night. read more

It's American Chinese and I love it! The food is hot, good & traditional Americanized chinese. It reminds me of the restaurants my parents took us to as kids. My husband & I love their Hot and Sour Soup! We frequently get a large to go container to eat later. My husband orders different things every time but loves the almond chicken. I always get the same thing, the Szechuan Beef with $3 of fried peanuts. It's my favorite and I crave it monthly. The only item I don't care for is the fried shrimp. It's not like battered chinese style fried shrimp but more like frozen sea pak shrimp. Avoid that or sub a different protein! Overall, good food! read more
