Overall 4.5/5 stars I wasn't expecting much. Yelp reviews were hit & miss. But it was the only place close. The entrance is a bit long and the carpet is a bit worn. But inside has got to be the cleanest restaurant I've been to-ever. Even under the table legs were extremely clean. We ordered hot & sour and egg flower soups. They were both good. I like my hot & sour quite hot & sour and this was mellow but delicious. For entrees, we got chow mein with the crispy noodles on the side and a side of white rice. The other was a Combination Dinner number 8 with pork egg foo young, with some to friend rice, sweet & sour pork and fried shrimp. The food must have gone from the wok to the plate to us in seconds because it came out super hot. Everything in the chow mein was super fresh, cooked perfectly and beyond delicious.I was told the other plate was good, too. The fried rice had flavor which is a nice change. Usually it's just has a bland brown sauce and little of the fried flavor you want. I definitely recommend trying Szechuan Chinese Restaurant.. I would love a place like this near me. Portions were good and prices were fair. Food was really good, service was super good and ambiance was ok. The carpet is dingy at the entrance and they had some boxes and supplies sitting out which didn't bother me at all. It's real and a good place to eat and that's the most important to me. read more

Lived here for 9 years and last night was the first time we've eaten here. Not sure why, other than bad reviews. We decided it was time to try it and we were both pleasantly surprised by the food. We ordered the family dinner for 2, option F. It was HUGE! Definitely enough for 4 people. Not the best, but far from the worst Chinese restaurant I've been to. Dirty, flies all over the place. landing on you and your food. Food taste sour, spoiled and some even soapy like dirty dish water. seats are in bad repair as the floor looks dingy. Service is not the greatest. Wouldn't recommend this place , it's prices are high for the quality of food. Being a former sous chef and from Los Angeles I know what good authentic Chinese food taste like. Me and my family were doing a road trip to Oregon and Washington. We were craving Chinese food as I was about to open my yelp app. We saw a sign on the freeway posted Szechuan Chinese restaurant next exit. So we Exited and followed our GPS at first glance the building looked old but then again I think in Oregon thats their style even new built buildings we noticed had an old look. We have gone to Szechuan for years and used to love it. Got takeout tonight and was very disappointed. The pan fried noodles looked like normal spaghetti noodles that were overcooked and had a tiny bit of sauce or coloring, but tasted like soggy plain noodles. The marfar chicken tasted like fried fish and they were skinny little pieces - that used to be my favorite thing there and they used to be large chunks of flavorful chicken. The general tso's chicken barely had flavor. The BBQ pork was dried out. They don't offer egg flour soup for takeout either. The best part of the meal in my opinion was the red sweet and sour sauce and the fortune cookies. Not to mention the prices have skyrocketed! And I'm not talking the normal inflation like we've seen everywhere lately, I'm talking insanely expensive for food that was not worth eating. I don't like to leave bad reviews, but there was nothing current to give us an idea of what the food is like now. Dirty and dilapidated on the inside and out. The menu choice looked good and seemed to be a good value. Then the egg flower soup came. There was so much corn starch in it that I was almost able to hold up the spoon in it. No flavor, just glop! Then came the cashew chhicken. The flavor was okay, but again , too much corn starch. into the bathroom to wash my hands and saw dust hanging down from the air vent to the top of the stall door! As far as Americanized Chinese restaurants, this one was lacking. I had the sweet and sour chicken which had more breading than chicken. The pork chow mein was the best thing I had on my plate, and was still only 3/5 stars. My fried rice was more like soy sauce flavored rice with egg in it. My husband's General Tso's chicken was good (3.5/5 stars). Wait staff and employees were very friendly and polite. Restaurant was clean. However, if I'm craving Chinese food, I will probably go somewhere else. read more

We live in Creswell and wanted Chinese food tonight, the Local place was closed so we opted to try Szechuan Chinese Restaurant in Cottage Grove. This was by far the worst Chinese food we have ever tried eating. I have Pork Fried Rice, Spring Rolls, Sweet and Sour Chicken and Sub Gum Chow Mein and my Husband had the Pork Fried Rice, Sweet and Sour Chick, Sweet and Sour Pork and Egg Flour Soup. The Pork Fried Rice Tasted like a dirty pan. The Spring Rolls, Sweet and Sour Chicken and Sweet and Sour Pork tasted like Sour Old Oil. The Egg Flour Soup was bland and Flavorless. The only thing that was Half Way Edible was the Chow Mein. We would NOT ever go here again. As we now have to figure out something else to eat. read more

Unfortunately I was unable to finish my meal as I lost my appetite shortly after trying the first bite. I ordered the special number 14 which includes rice, general tso chicken and spring roll. The chicken was bland, sauce had a very thick and syrupy texture. The rice was cold and tasted of masa, not good at all. I try not to be negative Nelli, but cmon. Shouldn't to go orders have some utensils, napkins, and maybe fortune cookie? Unless , of course someone says that they don't want/ need the stuff. I get that I have had hot n sour soup many times in my life. I understand that there are different methods, chefs, etc. but this soup here had way too much vinegar for the 'sour' I guess. The rest of our order was fine, but not great. I'm not sure this restaurant has much Umph to please these days. The decor fish tank inside the restaurant tells the story. Neglected! read more

Szechuan Chinese Restaurant - Yummy food!! - Chinese Near Me - Cottage Grove, Oregon

Friday night payday and its time to splurge on Chinese food. I have eaten here on 3 occasions. The first time was dine in and it was fantastic. The second was to go and it was terrible but decided last night to give them another chance. (After all, we all have bad nights.) Last nights food was damn near indescribably bad. ( no kidding, our dog would not even touch the happy family). The happy family is supposed to be according to the menu, veggies, chicken, shrimp and scallops sautéed in a yummy broth. One bite of the broccoli and i about lost it, had to spit it in a napkin and excuse myself from the room. It was honestly that bad. This was no bad night kind of bad. More of a "who gives a fudge" attitude. Who ever cooked it should not be allowed to cook at a correctional facility in the worst of the 3rd world countries. There was various temperatures going on through out (fire hot not pepper hot) and you could tell it was from different ingredients be added at different temps. Scolding hot pieces of celery that were so large I had to cut one into 3 pieces to take a bite. (Where the heck did they get Jurrasic celery). I could not stomach the flavor again. Wow! $12.50 there must be something in this mess worth eating. Aha! Scallop! It was RAW! A frozen in the middle raw scallop! Next was a rubberized shrimp that must have been cooking all day. This whole mess was drowned in a powdered brown gravy mixture that still had dry clumps in it. This was the nastiest flavor combo I have ever in my culinary adventures had the misfortune of experiencing. The rest of this $30.00 meal wasn't much better. It all got tossed and I spent the better part of my evening dry heaving in the restroom. All I can say is never again! I suggest that you go anywhere else, ANYWHERE!!!! This place is not a good idea. I have given it three different chances while living in the Cottage Grove area. I am not sure what part of China these folks are from. But apparently they enjoy corn starch and corn syrup as their main ingredients. The egg drop soup that comes with the meal, is gelatinous and overly sweet. The rice is not washed and lacks texture (very much like minute rice). And the main dishes lack authenticity and creativity. I am pretty sure the Chinese cook at Safeway puts more effort into his countries food. I think the orange chicken dish served across town at the Thai place, blows this places away. Even the fortune cookie was bad, probably from the 80's. Thumbs down. If you really want to go back in time, check out the lounge. read more

My son loved the noodles! That's not a good thing- he is 2 and has no taste. My 6 yr old enjoyed the won ton soup with BBQ pork...(he was starving) My shrimp veggie soup was thick and bland- but they brought me a ton of hot sauce to cover it up! Our dumplings came out after our main course, and they were greasy and soggy (I didn't know that texture was possible!) but my husband said the sweet and sour chicken is what you'd expect anywhere- so if that's your thing , more power to ya. My family and I have visited Cottage Grove twice (once as we were on our way to WA and this current time as we are heading back home to CA). The first visit we ordered dinner to-go and ate it in our hotel room. This second time we ate lunch at the restaurant. Szechuan Chinese has a pretty good menu and the service is on spot! Frankly, my family and I like it so much we went there twice! I liked the Mar Far Chicken. If I had to make a suggestion, I wish they could add a non-crispy noodle option that could be added to their lunch/dinner combination platters. The Won Ton (bowl) soup that my father ordered looked so finger-licking good that I had to have a spoonful and, boy, was it good! After an early afternoon work meeting I stopped by Szechuan Chinese for a late lunch. I arrived about 3:10, finding I was the only patron due to arriving mid-way between lunch & dinner. Thankfully, the lunch specials run until 3:30 so I ordered Mongolian Beef with steamed rice and a spring roll. I selected hot & sour soup. The soup is good - not at the all-star level as it lacked the crisp, fresh vegies found in the better Salem-area hot & sour soups, and I'd suggest toning down the black pepper a bit, but I did enjoy it. I was still eating my soup when the meal arrived. I had ordered Mongolian Beef, one of my default orders when checking out a new-to-me Chinese restaurant. It was also good - generous pieces of beef, nice and spicy, and a good mix of tasty vegetables. Service here was lightning fast, my server was very nice, and the space itself is clean and up-to-date. This is our "go-to" place for " American Chinese". The food is good, the prices are very reasonable, and the service is amazing. (My son requests the egg drop soup any time he is sick, says it makes him feel better). The only reason I did not give this 5 stars is because they need to put some $$ into upgrading and painting the place. read more
