Dinner, a rarely found IPA, is the only beer I follow on Beer Menus. Pleased that the beer was so fresh, and then surprised that it was only $7 a pour, a happy hour bonus. The definition of elevated bar food and an amazing beer selection. We shared the thankgiving egg rolls which I NEED to get every time I come here. They're the best! I also usually get the short rib grilled cheese. It has this amazing maple glaze or sauce on it which makes it the best grilled cheese you'll ever have in your life. My husband had the steak sandwich. He raved about the jalepeno cheese sauce and how tender the steak was. First, let's consider the name. A lark is a bird. According to my lazy Wikipedia-ing, "Larks are passerine birds of the family Alaudidae. Larks have a cosmopolitan distribution with the largest number of species occurring in Africa. Only a single species, the horned lark, occurs in North America, and only Horsfield's bush lark occurs in Australia." There are several hyperlinks in that sentence, including for "passerine," "cosmopolitan distribution," and, of course, "bird." Do not click them unless you want to travel down a fruitless rabbit hole or, worse, a lark hole. None of this will help you learn more about the Lark. I assume its name comes from its location on Larkfield Road. Until I learned that a lark was a bird, I'd assumed the name was just a cutesy abridgment of the street, like calling a bar on Jericho Turnpike "The Jer." But the logo (mascot) of the Lark is a dark bird, and one could assume that bird is a lark. As a non-watcher of birds, I'll take their word for it. Or their bird for it. The Lark is located in East Northport, which is more accurately SOUTH Northport, but that's a discussion saved for a chapter of one of my many works in progress, "'What's So Central about Central Islip?' And Other Questionable Long Island Naming Conventions." I haven't even started describing the bar yet. Well, let me tell you: It's easy to miss if you're not a denizen of that part of East Northport, because Larkfield Road is mostly a sometimes-clogged thoroughfare connecting Route 25A to Parts South, so you might cruise right on by while you ignore the other storefronts, which include a barbershop, a restaurant whose patrons tend to have been born during the Eisenhower administration, and probably a couple of other bars. If you don't drive past the bar like I've done a few times, you'll be able to park in its moderately spacious lot, a rarity in that part of town. Otherwise, you're condemned to parallel park on the street, a precarious enterprise when there is even a flicker of traffic. You walk into the bar and you get, well, a bar -- plus a handful of tables that are served by a waitress or two, depending on how crowded the place is. And I'll tell you, it does get crowded. Apparently, not everyone is driving past it. When you sample the category of drinking establishments that offer edible consumables, also known as bars serving pub grub, the results can be hit (food that's actually prepared) or miss (a "pizza" festering under a heat lamp). Fortunately, the Lark is the former, and while I'll never consider the place a food-forward establishment like, say, Sapsuckers, it's a reasonable choice if I want to tie one on in order to temporarily forget my myriad troubles while also sating my appetite -- and without having to navigate the more crowded environs of Actual Northport or Huntington Village. Most important, and the obvious way to judge the fitness of a bar, is the beer selection. I am a bit of a beer snob -- an aficionado of Belgian beers, to be precise -- so the fact that they have both La Chouffe and Gulden Draak is a plus, more so because my La Chouffe arrived in a La Chouffe tulip glass, not some random Greenpoint tumbler that happened to be clean. What else? The bartenders and servers are friendly, and would probably be even friendlier if I knew how to have a normal conversation. Instead, I'm asking them questions like: "Do you serve any lark? Can I get the chicken sandwich with lark instead? What do you think lark tastes like? Is it OK if I get the chicken sandwich with chicken instead of lark, but after I take a bite I shout loud enough for everyone to hear, 'YUM YUM THAT IS THE BEST DAMN LARK I HAVE EVER HAD'?" While lazing around on New Year's Day, the question came up. "We really should eat something. Where do you want to go?" The Lark sprang to mind because I heard about their Thanksgiving Egg Rolls and really wanted to try them. This was the perfect opportunity. I called and thankfully they were open. I snagged a space right out front on the street and they also have off-street parking When we walked in, the place looked pretty busy. There was only one person working the front of house. I girded for the worst, but was pleasantly surprised. She (I apologize for not remembering her name) was the combination hostess, bartender, waitress, and busboy, and she excelled at each of those roles. We sat at the bar where large TVs were broadcasting the football games. (It was a Sunday after all.) She took our drink orders. I had a Downeast Cider and my girlfriend ordered a lemonade. The cider was crisp and refreshing and tasted more like cider than beer, like some ciders do. For our meal, we shared the Thanksgiving Egg Rolls, my girlfriend had a North-Shore House Salad (mixed greens, golden raisins, walnuts, feta, grape tomato, and balsamic reduction) -- hold the feta -- with Grilled Shrimp. I had the California Burger (with Lark's special sauce, guacamole, and feta cheese) -- no bun and a side salad instead of fries. (It's the New Year. Got to eat right for at least one day, right?) The egg rolls were fried to perfection. Crispy on the outside with fresh-roasted turkey and homemade stuffing on the inside. They serve it with a maple honey glaze and turkey gravy dip to complete the experience. Amazing. I might just close my kitchen and order them next thanksgiving. They're that good. The burger was also very good and cooked exactly to order. I commented that a burger without a bun looked pretty lonely. But that's how I ordered it. The grilled shrimp on the salad looked pretty good. The salad greens on both plates didn't look farmer's market fresh. But they were tasty nonetheless. When things quieted down a bit, the hostess/bartender/waitress/busboy explained that they were understudied because they almost weren't going to open (they weren't last year because of Covid) and just didn't anticipate the crowd. But I, for one, am glad they did open. The evening went off without a hitch. And it's always nice to start off the new year with a good meal. read more

Great little restaurant & bar! I came here after visiting my wedding venue (Larkfield) for a delicious early dinner. They have many different specials each day of the week. I came on Sunday and the $5 apps were a great Located on Larkfield Rd in E. Northport, the restaurant has minimal street parking in front. There is a side lot with a back entrance. They also had a tent set up outside in the back of the restaurant. Inside, there's a large bar and quite a few tables. I came in at around 3:30pm on a Sunday and the restaurant was fairly empty. I was able to get a table right away. The prices are fabulous! They have tons of specials and deals depending on the day of the week. The service was very friendly and attentive. There was a small mishap. We ordered soups, apps & burgers. Our soups came then our burgers. I think they forgot our apps. We had to remind our server about the apps. They were brought out rather quickly after. We didn't feel rushed here. Drink refills came around quite often. The food was amazing! I really enjoyed myself. I will be reviewing what I tried: -French Onion Soup: Absolutely loved this!I know my French Onion and this one highly impressed me! 5 out of 5 stars -BBQ Boneless Wings: $5 during the Sunday special!! Came in yesterday (Sunday afternoon). First time since this was the Blue Moon in the early 1990's. This is a one of a kind pub you just can't find anymore. Great vibes, excellent food and super friendly staff from the kitchen crew to the front of the house. Found my new go to place. The menu is extensive with food for every appetite and prepared with passion. This place is the perfect storm that brings everything that you crave together at one place. I hope one day they will do a VIP point card for regulars that will encourage guests to build points to earn birthday brews and special occasion discounts. I must've passed this place a million times and never saw it, but someone recommended it because of the extensive beer selection, and we decided why not? They have a big parking lot, although there is a bunch of street parking as well. We both started with a couple of beers, both awesome (unfortunately don't remember the names), but the hubby commented on how many different ABV choices there were. We got the wings, sauce on side, had the buffalo and BBQ- we did ask for the Thai chili and got the bbq instead, but no biggie. The wings were crispy and decent sized, which is always super appreciated, love love love crispy wings. The thanksgiving rolls were also awesome. Great flavors, not oily, just awesome. They were served with a side of gravy as well. For an entree we split the short rib/brisket grilled cheese with Gruyère and maple butter, and it was soooooooo good. Very unique but also really tasty. The fries were also super crispy and the onion rings are beer battered (so much better than breaded). Our server was the bartender and she was very nice, attentive, and we didn't feel rushed at all. Pub and Grub That Hits The Spot! This pub has a long list drafts TVs all over playing different sporting events and an outdoor patio during those nice hot summer days, what more can you ask for. I would expect this would be the type of bar that is packed for sporting events. I went here with a small group of people and were great by the servers who were very nice. It took about 10mins to get a table which wasn't bad for right during dinner time on a Saturday. The selection of draft beers on tap are really good and you will deff be able to find a beer you haven't had before. For the food we got the fried mac and cheese appetizer, Mediterranean spread (hummus,feta, olives....) and I got the Lark burger (jalapeño cheddar sauce, bacon, deliciousness) with the fries. If I was local you can bet I'd be one to lurk around the lark. I really dig everything about the place. It's on the north shore which I don't get to as often unfortunately (patchogue boy) but man do I dig this spot. The menu is big enough to satisfy my whimsy, but small enough to be well managed and on point. The craft selection is great and so is the service. Joe's the man! He infuses his own Jameson with banana, yup, banana! If Jamo ain't smooth enough for ya, try this mans amazing concoction, I can't wait to come up with some mixed drinks with it. (already thinkin') The lark reminds me of so many good things; the infused jamo reminds me of the fig infused jim beam from a spot in Port Jeff, the name "Lark" reminds me of some fun times up in Albany at the bar of the same name, the vintage Mac n cheese reminds me of the incredible béchamel Mac from a spot in Hauppauge, and the location reminds me of some good times with some good girls.... we'll call them good girls. I digress. The patio in the back is cool and the bar is pretty spacious but it can get crowded regardless even on an off night. First time at this neighborhood bar, and found the food quite good. Ordered the French burger, which had cheese and carmelized onions, and a onion soup sauce. I ordered the salad, but my hubby had the french fries, which while different may have been better than McDonald's. It was Happy Hour, so the Cabernet Red was only $5.00. They have TV's here and there. Quick Draw games, but it had a small screen. The waitress was excellent. Good parking. Lunch menu of $5.99 on Monday to Friday. The fried Mac n cheese was pretty good nothing to write home about. The country sliders were good just make sure they don't over bake the biscuit. The Reuben burger on a pretzel roll made the visit worth it! Outstanding and messy just how I like it! The hospitality industry might have changed due to Covid but what hasn't change is the great food and service coming from the Lark! I had my family over for dinner the other evening, with a range of ages and taste buds. I decided on an alfresco tasting menu from the Lark. With the help of Christina and Lindsay they guided me through on what to order and what would work best for my group. They were efficient and friendly and the dishes were warm and juicy and filled with flavor. Their recommendations did not disappointment. We ordered the cod tacos, Thai chili wings, beef sliders, Mediterrean platter, buffalo chicken fingers, spinach dip ... just to name a few. I was here once a long time ago with a friend, and was in and out. Now, after spending my second time here, this place gets my stamp of approval. They had 4 Sand City beers on tap, I guess that is a perk of having them nearby. Now, I did not have any food while here, but their food looks and smells delicious. The real reason i'm writing this review is because I happened to check my CC statement, and was charged twice, for two different prices after visiting here. I called and spoke with Danielle, and she took all my information and relayed it to the person who was in charge of sifting thru a bunch of information. A few days later, I receive a phone call saying that my receipt was found, and that i should have been charged X, (which i was), but that i was also charged a second amount, for more money. Long story short, no argument, i was compensated for the error without even a hesitation (barring proof was given). The customer service that this place offers from top to bottom is unparalleled. After hearing great reviews about this place I was very excited to try it, people are very nice and the wait staff was attentive and they practice good social distancing. the appetizers were just so-so, the Bavarian pretzels were ice cold, the buffalo chicken dip was good. The shrimp tacos were horrendous, the shrimp were cut up to give the illusion that there were a lot of shrimp when in fact there was not. The shrimp also smelled fishy like they were old. I sat down at a table for waiter service and waited 15 minutes before the waiter showed up at the table next to me. He took their refill order and never even acknowledged me. Great place! Very good craft beer selection and a nice sized menu thats a bit elevated from the standard "bar food" fare. Highly recommend the mashed potato egg rolls! As others have said, there was never a feeling of being rushed. There was plenty of time to enjoy the food (and get a second order of those egg rolls) and have a conversation. The waitress was attentive and never missed a step. It's a bar first and foremost and so it gets loud and rowdy. Not really a family restaurant though if you go earlier in the day it might be less noisy and crowded. No complaints here at all other than the fact that it can be difficult to get a table as there is limited seating inside the bar (though there's outside seating in warmer months). If you're distracted at the bar someone else can just swoop in and grab a table youve been waiting for, but the staff is pretty attentive to those who they know are waiting for a seat. I have a big love hate relationship with this place... and by that I mean I hate how I somehow keep ending up here anytime I try to go out anywhere else. But I actually don't hate that, because this place is pretty great. Why do I keep coming back? This place isn't trying to be something it's not. It's a pub- they own it and do it well. They have a great selection of craft beers that rotates out constantly so I try new ones anytime I come in. They have the kind of pub food you want, but have some fun twists (hello shepherd's pie potato skins special!). The bartenders are great and the patrons won't hesitate to strike up a conversation. The place was PACKED for the Isles/Rangers game (the Isles fans came out of hiding). Luckily they had 2 bartenders and a bunch of wait staff on hand who handled the chaos well. Let's start with the drink...Great brew selection! The rotation is funny, but not in a bad way. For instance, when I was there at least 4 kegs got tapped. They replaced the beer swiftly, but it was a completely different brew that took it's place. The replacement is equally awesome (they put on Victory Golden Monkey, Chimay White, among others) but you can see how it's tough to come here for your favorite brew bc they run out and rotate so often. Again, not a big deal bc there's bound to be a few gems on tap you'll drink anyway. If the taps don't do it for ya, there are dozens of bottles to choose from. Holy heart attack with the menu. This place is a chubby kids dream. Mashed potato eggrolls? 4 kinds of mac n cheese? Droooll. Unfortunately, I'm eating better these days, but I still rocked a round of Bottle Caps (sliders) and turkey chili. Turkey chili came out boiling and was awesome. A little spice, some chips to dip in it and a layer of cheese and sour cream made this the best dish of the night. The sliders were solid, but the buns weren't warm so it threw these off a bit. Two & a half stars, but in a good way, kind of....Without a doubt the best beer selection in the immediate area (Npt-Enpt). The best you can hope for when it comes to the food however is mediocrity, and unfortunately often times you won't even get that and instead will wind up with food that is not even edible. Simple solution here; avoid food at all costs unless of course you are completely wasted, at which point the quality is completely insignificant. Service is also somewhat spotty, but the place serves a valuable purpose by offering the aforementioned beer selection while most other bars on the Larkfield strip are apt to offer something along the lines of Shocktop as its premium beer selection. read more
