I've been searching for a brunch place that took food seriously since Brooklyn Star (RIP) closed. Finally, here it is. A previous review referenced the steak and eggs as some of the best steak they'd ever tasted. I had to challenge that overstatement, but I've failed. It was absolutely one of the best cuts, alongside over easy eggs that apparently shared a well-seasoned griddle. The bar service was exactly what one would want; friendly, attentive, and eager to offer suggestions or leave the party alone. You want a bartender who can read a room, and I'm happy to report he works here on Sundays. The ambiance is close and comfortable, you will chat with your neighbors. This appears to be a local favorite, and makes me somewhat wistful I'm not a local - but it is just 40 minutes from my new home, and worth every mile. I'm told the shrimp and grits is also worth a look if you're lucky enough to visit on a day when they are offering it as a special. Dodging the crowds from Crozet Pizza? Tried this place for lunch as we were driving through the area. It seemed like a local favorite, with lots of friendly people, but we weren't too impressed. He got a burger with bacon and I got two apps as my lunch - cheese sticks and chicken fingers. They took a really long time to be served. The chicken was nothing special, but the honey mustard sauce was great. Maybe we hit it at a bad time- near closing time for Sunday Brunch, but I doubt we'll be back. Small town vibe here, everyone seems to know each other here but still welcoming to the wayfaring stranger. Very cool place to hang out for a few drinks or a meal. Place was pretty busy on a Monday night but we were set at a table quickly. We noted a few tables were still waiting on food so it seemed the kitchen might have been a bit behind. We ordered the pretzel to tide us over in case the wait for din din got a bit long. But we didn't have much of a wait after all. Service was excellent. The food is well prepared and creative. We saw a no bull burger on the menu and the back story on this item is quite interesting, google it yourself. We opted not to get the no bull item and tucked it away for the next day at Boda Bagel in Charlottesville. The strawberry salad was really fulfilling, the pulled pork was perfect and the red pepper soup was a fastball down the middle. Stopped for brunch: food was really impressive, service was friendly, but food took quite long to come out. Their brunch starts at 10a and the menu is extensive. The pancakes tasted good but were an odd texture; super thin with crispy edges. She said the quiche was really good and perfectly fluffy, but it was a rather small portion. We stopped by on a very busy Saturday and were asked if we had a reservation, which we did not. We asked to be seated outside and they had the perfect spot over away from everyone else. Service was super friendly and accommodating to my one year old daughter, they offered juices or milk for her. Covid protocols were in place and they were throughly cleaning between customers, requiring masks (enforced), and had distancing in place as well. In addition to outdoor dining they also offer carry out. The food was pretty good. We had edamame potstickers (excellent) and mozzarella sticks (good) for appetizers. I had the yardbird wrap and fries for entree. The wrap was good and the fries were superb. Washed it down with a local dry cider. Everything came out timely and the servers were constantly checking in even though we were outside. Let's just say I wanted so much more from this small town establishment. I used to love coming here years ago however this trip was so disappointing. To start with, as my daughter went to the bathroom to wash up for dinner I was able to see into the kitchen where I witnessed a cook blow his nose, dig in it for a while, then walk straight out to the soda machine and grab a drink, then hop back on the line. I mean what is hand washing? Secondly, the only refills you get for drinks are the ones you ask for. Not to mention the mold right above us while we eat. Instantly thought this place could be on DDD, it had that rustic look and charm. The server who sat us was very attentive and smiled and definitely knew the menu, as she helped us make decisions on our food choices. The Ruben is AMAZING! Smoked in-house, it had an incredible, smokey flavor! Cole Slaw - AWESOME! Even the prep of the side salad and their specialty, soy ginger vinaigrette was nicely done and tasty! There's plenty of parking and a vast menu including a full bar with several local beer selections! I was pleased to see so many vegetarian options, and they serve such generous portions that we all brought half our food home. Our server was friendly, quick, and accommodating for our dog. Our last night on a mini-vacation to C'ville and we'd stopped at Starr Hill brewery. The kid needed to eat and it was between here and another place. Basically flipped a coin and ended up here. So, Crozet is tiny. Like minuscule little town. But both my husband and I walked out saying we could totally live there. Everyone was so friendly. The place was packed to the gills on a Friday night and it was early. Families, folks getting off work, all sorts. It's a small place, so I'd recommend calling ahead if you have a large group or know it's going to be busy. We were expecting run of the mill bar food. Boy were we wrong. First, the on tap selection is not average by any means. Stone's Milk Stout. Not even kidding. And others on the list are not the usual stuff of bars. Ordered a pretzel that came with Jomo (Starr Hill beer) mustard sauce. And the pretzel was a locally made thing of wonder. Us and our 10 month old LOVED it. Especially the sauce. Hubby got a burger and cleaned his plate. I got a wonderful cheesesteak. The winner, though, was the kid's mac and cheese. He went crazy for it. Clearly the whole section on mac and cheese should've been a giveaway.Even the hubby raved about it and he's not a pasta guy. Not sure what they did to it but it was wonderful. Our local joint isn't necessarily known for highbrow viddles. Have been coming her occasionally over the last 4 years and noticed a decline in food and service. By service, I mean that it takes an unusually long time for food to come from the kitchen. Tonight ordered a Cuban sandwich. New on the menu though it has been a special in the past. It was evident that the bread and the sandwich innards had sat on the grill an epically long time, rendering them brick tough and flavorless. Had to send it back to where it came. Was replaced by the Reuben. House smoked pastrami. I've had it here many times in the past but tonight it was cooked to shoe rubber. Kiddo had the shrimp skewers. Also new to the menu. He gobbled them up but was still really hungry after eating the six medium sized shrimp that priced out for what you might pay for a pound of the sea creatures. Wife had a chicken sandwich that she said was ok. Wouldn't brag about it but was cooked ok. I can often judge a dive by the quality of their pickles. I'm sorry to say these were sad and probably dipped out of a generic vault of mass produced dills. All said, there is so much potential and yet a lot lacking. Omg who would have thought about doing that? This place. Hubby had the Fardowner, Burger on a pretzel roll with onion rings. That thing was huge. I had a Mini burger with bacon and cheddar cheese.
