Nothing fancy, but it's my favorite restaurant on Nantucket. It's where the locals go, because it's affordable and the food is decent. They have a salad bar, and if you like simple foods, like fried clams and such, it's just fine. read more

This place is opened today even though the Yelp site says it's closed lol Anyway, I had the best Quahog Chowder on the island here. It was full of flavor and clams! I tried five different restaurants and the Faregrounds had the best chowder. Along with it being delicious, it was very fairly priced at $5.99 for a bowl. I also had a massive piece of fish in my fish and chips lunch plate which was good as well. Give this place a try. They have a cool sports bar section that I would recommend sitting in. read more

Poorest service I've had in years. Waiter, of 20 years there, sullen. Couldn't be bothered. No reply to email from management. Food poor. Food overpriced. Order mixed up. Long wait. No apology. I went here growing up and they had a great salad bar. I was happy to see that they still had it. Flies and all. I feel like this is an unmistakable film of stick over everything. Almost like everything has been wiped clean with the same rag for the past fifteen years. The staff is nice and food is middle of the road. I've been here a few times with the children I nanny for, is it anything special? Not even slightly. The food here is sub par but kids seem to love it. The food seems all overpriced for the quality of food. Service is slow night and day so plan accordingly. If you have kids or everywhere else in town is busy then here is a good place to try. Loud bar,good food and pizza, what else could you want?

Wish I could give 0 stars but that's not an option. Took 30 mins to even get a glass of water. I had to ask the waitress three times to bring our table water. Multiple people I was with received the wrong food orders. I personally got a chicken caesar wrap that was dryer than the Sahara desert. I suggest you spend your money else where. There are so many other great restaurants on the Island. Take your business elsewhere. read more

We only came for drinks - the bartender was friendly, gave us great service, and very helpful. We had a great conversation about the island, locals, etc. There was a wedding reception going on, and they all looked like they were having a fabulous time. He gave us great recommendations when asked for an upscale restaurant for another evening. read more

Our new go-to restaurant on Nantucket. Had shrimp and prime rib and salads. Very reasonable prices.

Overall not bad, service is typical for the Nantucket summer. Food was good, if you get one of the " all you can eat" specials they run be prepared to wait. It's very nice to have the salad bar option as well. Not big but plenty to chose from and fresh produce is used. read more

Worst pizza ever! The tossed salad and Greek salads were ok. Not the place to go to for pizza on Nantucket.

We went here twice, only because it was on the way back from another place we were going. It's apparently for locals, and the help treated us like we were aliens. The first day, the waitress said she was going to take our order right after she put some menus down. She then proceeded to take the order of another guy, go over to the cash register to do her business, and finally come back to us about five or 10 minutes later. The second day, the guy was a lot nicer and quicker, but probably because we were one of only two parties in the place. The food was not much to write home about, although we liked the hard cider. read more

The best this about this Nantucket restaurant is their parking lot. With an island full of great places to eat, why bother with this spot. We made a mistake & ate here 1 time last week. Never again. Fairgrounds and Pudley's Pub are reliable places for consistent offerings. The service is very good, the prices are reasonable, the menu is varied, and the food quality is consistent. The dining room offers a full salad bar (in the summer), the pub is a sports bar, and the outdoor dining and bar area is open in good weather. The restaurant is a regular place for locals, especially family groups, which can be it's only negative. Family groups often include small children which can become loud and boistrous, upsetting to other diners looking for a quiet dining experience in the dining room. New visit, 9/27/2017. Tonight was not one of Faregrounds best nights. The quieter dining room was closed, forcing us into the boisterous sports bar pub. Service was haphazard at best. For example, my wife ordered a special drink and a special appetizer. I ordered a drink and a full.dinner which included salad bar. Normally accepted food serving protocol is drinks first, appetizer and salad next, then finally the main course. While waiting for our drinks, my wife's appetizer arrived. I went to the salad bar and while there, my drink arrived but not my wife's drink. While eating these first courses, my wife was informed the bar couldn't make her drink special because they didn't have the ingredients! My meal arrived before I had only taken a sip of my drink. As a result, where I would normally have ordered wine with my meal, my food was accompanied by my gin martini... not the most appetizing of combinations. My wife's dessert was served while I was still eating my main course. As a result of the above, Faregrounds lost a wine order and a dessert order from me, as well as having two less than satisfied customers. We tolerated the discomfort of having to eat in the noisy bar because overall the food at Faregrounds is good. But if they need to close the dining room, the least they could do is provide decent, proper dining room etiquette in the bar. Faregrounds gets 2 stars for the food, otherwise it would get 1 star for its haphazard service. read more

We needed to find a spot in a pinch to take our kids to last night, Tuesday August 16th, we found Pudley's online saying it was kid friendly so we went there. Atmosphere was nice, older inside but we chose to sit on the nice deck outside. The waiter we had spilled a tray of water cups on my wife and daughter to start out the experience, we are the type of diners that found it funny and told the waiter not to worry, little did we know that this was a foreshadowing of our dining experience. My sister and wife ordered the lobster bisque that was missing the lobster, I on the other hand went for their homemade French Onion soup that had plenty of onions and was the best part of the meal. I guess they could spare using plenty on onions in an onion soup but not any lobster for the bisque. The kids ordered a pizza that was a bit greasy and oily but after patting down with napkins the kids were able to eat it. The nachos supreme came out burnt, may have been the worst nacho plate I have ever tried. I also ordered their loaded potato skins, they came out way over cooked that took some muscle to cut through the burnt skins. We also ordered the asian seasoned calamari but the waiter forgot to add it to the order. I'm happy that we didn't pay for any entree's because if they can't get a couple simple appetizers right I can only imagine how bad an entree would have been. So if you go to Pudley's go with the onion soup and that's about it! read more

The service at The Fairgrounds is horrendous. I was there early evening for drinks/dinner on 8/17/2014. Many of the tables on the front patio were empty, but were not clean. When I asked for a table, the hostess said that she was not sure if she could seat me. Perhaps it was because I was alone. A number of people were smoking on the patio, so I decided to move indoors. I moved myself since nobody paid any attention to me. While inside, I overheard the same hostess speak extremely disrespectfully to a customer, who asked that two tables be joined so that she could sit with her friend's family. Despite that the indoor dining room was virtually empty, the hostess seemed very put out by the request and told the customer that she should have made a reservation in advance. As the customer became more irate, the manager on duty asked the customer to step outside to discuss the situation out of earshot of other customers. I really hope that the customer left. I will never return to The Fairgrounds. There are many other restaurants much more deserving of my business. The management and staff need a major attitude adjustment and overhaul. read more
