Delicious sandwiches that are perfectly crafted. There is no way to find something wrong with this place. I custom ordered a turkey on rye sandwich with my favorite toppings. All I learned was to ask for "light" mustard because their standard mustard application is a little much for my liking, the sandwich was soo good regardless that even too much mustard couldn't ruin it. My husband got the Reuben which he said was perfection, and my dad got the turkey sub which hit the spot. It's not a cheap sandwich but it's quality. Great sandwich shop in Ojai! While visiting, I overheard several people talking about MJ's and couldn't resist trying it out! I placed an online order, and it arrived incredibly quickly. I ordered the Three Peat, but I requested it to be prepared "Hot/toasted." It was quite saucy, so be sure to bring have some napkins. They also offer pickles if you'd like! I don't cook. I only eat out. I love to eat out and am thrilled when the total experience is above my expectations. MJ's is one of those places. One thing I look for are indications that the restaurant I'm paying for is a great place to work. I'm not going to subsidize a restaurant owned by some jerk. Evelyn at MJ's has so much charisma and emotes that MJ's is a great place to be. The sandwiches are above standard grade sub shops in quality and deliciousness. The prices are below what I'd expect. So glad I got to try this deli out! I ordered an everything bagel with lox and the chickpea salad. Everything was so fresh and flavorful, and the service was wonderful as well. There isn't a lot of seating indoors but there are a few tables outside, so probably best to get the food to go if you're able to. read more

It's great to have a place in town where you can go to grab a delicious reasonably priced sandwich either to go or to eat in - there are a few few tables, but it does get pretty crowded. The staff is friendly and helpful. There can be a little bit of a wait for your sandwich as it does get pretty busy, especially on the weekends. The food is fresh and delicious, the prices are reasonable, and I love getting a pickle with my sandwich. The sandwich shop is cute and there are some tables inside and out, but as I noted, it can get crowded, especially during the lunch hour. read more

Writing this review because 1) their sandwiches and potato salad are incredible and 2) the staff are the kindest people ever!! They mailed my bag back to me when I lost it! Diving into the details 1) I ordered the New Yorker sub and it was STACKED! The sandwich is so big that I I shared it with my partner and it was plenty. The best part of the meal though was their potato salad. The seasonings and flavor were very stand out. The potatoes were the perfect texture too! I loved it and would highly recommend! The entire meal was perfect for a hot day. 2) I lost my reusable bag here when visiting Ojai and was honestly pretty sad about it. I figured I should just call and see if I left it at the deli. Delicious! Loved the Topa Topa sandwich - enough for two meals. Potato salad was good, too. Coleslaw I wouldn't get unless you like spicy. Mom's ham and cheese sandwich was good. Loved the Planter's Punch Tractor Drink, and the Tractor Lemonade, too. Cookies were good, too! and little bags of chips. Husband had the breakfast sandwich and he was thrilled to get to have "all day breakfast." Gal behind the counter was kind, and personable, and efficient. I finally made my way into town to try MJ's. I had many friends tell me that it was solid so I was excited to give it a try. I ordered the Reuben while the misses had the spicy turkey. The Good: everything we ordered was amazing. The Reuben was a great value for the price. I love the pastrami, it is offered with corned beef but pastrami is the true Reuben. The pastrami was well cooked and juicy and the thousand island was the perfect level of creaminess to cut through the sourness of the kraut. The rye was soft and pillowy. They also add a pickle which are excellent. I didn't try the spicy turkey but my wife really enjoyed it. And she is a very tough critic. The Bad: nothing bad about the food but parking is challenging. Not only is the parking lot always packed, it is tough to navigate once you get inside. Best to park on Ojai Ave or one of the side streets. The ugly: nothing ugly here my friends. If you are looking for a solid sandwich without breaking the bank, MJ's is what you are looking for. I built my own sandwich, turkey, bacon, avocado, tomato, lettuce, mayo, chipotle aioli. The best thing i've ever had. Not only was the food good, but the service is amazing. Came to Ojai for a Saturday day trip not knowing much about the food scene and we were pleasantly surprised by this small, unassuming deli located in a small shopping center. It has about two tables outside and then a couple of smaller tables inside with a bar counter. As a sandwich lover originally hailing from Brooklyn, these were some of my favorite sandwiches I've eaten in my near two years here on the west coast. We ordered the: Pastrami Sub Three Peat Super Sub Mike's Super Dog First off, the cashier who took our order was incredibly kind and helpful as we tried to solidify our picks, as it was very difficult to choose. Our biggest question was whether we should get a regular hot dog vs the Super Dog. She said we would not be disappointed...and we were not. All of the things we ordered were absolutely excellent. The bread was pillowy soft and fresh and meats were of the highest quality. The combinations of flavors were classic and executed perfectly. They don't skimp out on the fillings either. The Super Dog was very special and the most unique thing we ate. It was served sliced/flattened covered in melted Swiss, bacon, thousand island, and coleslaw nestled in their amazing bread. Don't skip out on this treat - it was remarkable. With a water + tip...this all cost about $47. We didn't finish everything as the sandwiches are huge, so it really is a great value for the price. Coming from LA, I'd consider these cheap! My only regret was not buying some merch. We truly can't wait to go back! read more

We were looking for a little picnic food since most of the restaurants and eateries in the town weren't exactly family friendly (tight spaces and no room for any strollers). We opted to check this place out. It's in the same plaza as Nest with some parking. It gets chaotic during the weekend brunch hours. We got a modest tuna sandwich, a cold cut turkey sub and a grilled cheese sandwich. The prices for the sandwiches were a little too much for me but what do you expect being in Ojai. I felt the sub was more fair considering the size. I thought all the food was pretty good. We had leftovers of each sandwich when we were done so I can't complain. Good service and clean bathrooms and seating inside and out. I do want to check out their pastrami next time! read more

We were lucky enough to find MJ's Deli this morning and it was amazing. My husband had the breakfast bagel with bacon and scrambled eggs and I had the lox and cream cheese with red onion and capers. What a find! Thus little gem, tucked away in a shopping center with ample parking, is like a little New York deli in the middle of Ojai. The owner, Michael, makes a mile-high turkey club that is a work of art, piled high with tender white meat turkey, crispy bacon, shredded lettuce, sliced tomato, sliced cheese and Thousand Island dressing. We had our sandwiches on toasted sourdough and could only finish one-half. It was super-fresh, made-to-order and absolutely delicious. Ask for a pickle on the side and don't miss an order of the outstanding homemade potato salad, which Michael also makes. The deli is super-friendly, thanks to Michael's Mom, who takes the orders and explains all the menu options. I already personally thanked the MJs team for making an awesome set of sandwiches for my girlfriend and I who were visiting from down in Long Beach. The quality of the cuts and the way they stacked everything was super awesome and flavorful. NOTHING fell out of my sandwich, I got every single bite full of flavor and fixings edge to edge.
