USED TO love this place. Called them and specifically asked if they had Porterhouse Steak, they said yes but it is a custom cut which they do on Friday mornings. Great, I ordered two 18-24 oz, 1.25 inch cuts to be picked up in 3 days on the next Friday. Upon opening the package of meat at home the printed label said T-Bone, which I did not order. Called them and was told to freeze them and bring the back the following Friday and they would have my 2 Porterhouse steaks ready for me. I had the handwritten order to show them for Porterhouse, and the T Bone label still attached to the butcher paper. First lady opens the package and sees Porterhouse wrote on a freezer bag, she says it says Porterhouse, I tell her I wrote that when I separated the steaks. Butcher comes over and asked me what my definition of a Porterhouse is, I showed him a pic on my phone of a real one. He says they don't have that. I say I was told you do when I placed my order. Younger lady comes over and says they can't take them back as they are frozen, I tell her that was what I was told to do, by them. In the end they took the steaks and gave me my money back. No were no we are sorry, no words at all, she just dropped the money in my hand and turned and walked away. Made me feel like they thought this was all my fault. Will never ever go back. read more

Local butcher doesn't even compare to store bought. This place is delicious from the beef bacon to the steaks & beef jerky. We got lucky to get some eggs too all fantastic. We got some thin cut short ribs were finger licking good. So thankful to find this place I've ever had just an ok cut of meat, it's all fantastic! read more

They complied and changed it by a week ? Jon came out and was very kind talking with the other two owners and answered every question they had for him ! I understood that it would take a month to get our meat back ? Was not very patient with them and so here we are I picked my meat up yesterday, It was absolutely amazing , every piece of meat was what I had checked on the cut list ! I got a 7lb Prime Rib Roast bone in. The marbling was fantastic, they seasoned and vacuum bagged it while I waited. Where do you get service like that? I will be going back a lot more. I cooked the roast on my Traeger pellet smoker. It turn out perfect. I had just enough left over for some prime rib sliders today for lunch. Great service, great product. read more

I've been on this stretch of road a few times over the year and never noticed this place before. I wasn't sure where the day would take me, but if it brought me back this way, I decided I would stop. For a small place, I have to admit I was impressed, they had a variety of fresh and smoked meats as well as exotic meats and pet treats. The place appeared to be female owned, and I think everyone behind the counter was female. This place however did ultimately come up short for a variety of reasons, so let's dig in. The first thing I wanted to check out was the smoked meats. Unfortunately, they were out of both the jerky and pepperoni I was hoping to try. The girl tried to sell me on alternative flavors, but I'm not an adventurous when it comes to smoked meats. I did however, get a fist full of pig skin and my dog was extremely grateful for those. The final steak in the heart was the Hot Links. It's one thing to get a Hot Link from the grocery store and have it taste like a peppered hotdog, but at a butcher, I expect a Hot Link to be an homage to everything southern. Unfortunately, when I asked about the heat, the girl quickly explained that the name is the only think hot about the product. The jerky that I did buy was okay. It honestly wasn't as smokey or salty as I like a jerky, but I think it's clear that all the flavors here are mild. This may have been the best collection of Exotic meats west of the Mississippi, but unless that's what you are after, this is just another meat shack. 2 for the commercial meats, 4 for the exotic for an overall 3. read more

I was about to make my first pork belly dish, only to discover before I was started putting my mise en place in place that I'd left the fresh, thawed pork belly in the fridge at least two too many days. Farmer George's is the only place in town I know of that sells unsliced pork belly and I hurried over there. On this visit, I was acknowledged fairly quickly by a lady behind the counter, which I appreciated. I had already seen pork belly in the meat case and told her how much I needed, and that's how much she cut. So, Farmer George's saved dinner (the stir-fry dish turned out great) but although the lady was friendly, to provide better customer service she should have asked me if I wanted the skin removed. And since this was my first time buying pork belly from a butcher, I didn't know to ask since the pork belly that went bad had been bought fully trimmed. When I opened the package at home, the pork skin had nipples of one side and a layer of skin on the other side. I trimmed it all off as best as I could figure out. Only today did I look at videos which taught me how it could have been done more efficiently. So, that lapse in customer service earns Farmer George 3 stars, which is a higher rating than I gave them in my first review. But I'm more willing to visit them again to check out their other meats, like their popular skirt steak--a beef cut I dearly love. read more

I moved up to Port Orchard 5 years ago and I was used to the service I received at Stewarts Meats in Yelm and Farmers Markets Stewarts in Olympia. I was excited to try this place but after 3 x visiting just checking this place out, I thought no way, each time there was grumpy, short tempered employees. My daughter had gone in there as well 2 times and was met with the same customer service . We have both worked in customer service, healthcare and other people oriented fields and when you have limited time to enjoy your days off I'd rather avoid grumpy people. I'll drive back to Stewarts to get the old fashioned , happy feel of a local meat market! read more

My favorite source for beef bacon, looks and tastes like pork bacon. Call ahead to verify if they have in stock but it usually is.

If I could give them 10 stars for the experience we had with them I would. Super professional and quick when it came to the slaughter and butcher of our lambs. I would call Joe again in a heartbeat. Bought two grass feed New York Stakes and BBQ'd with big baked potatoes. Cooked to only med rare and the steaks were so chewy, like jerky, and "marbled with Grizzle" throughout. So hoping I had a cranky employee who does not represent them. We have been loyal Farmer George customers since our daughters were little and Denise always asks about them for over 15 years. Called to order our Thanksgiving turkey like always do and asked about COVID safety. Are they limiting customers in store? Are there any special provisions in place? The employee said no they weren't doing any of those things and seemed to brag how busy they would be! We missed our Barron of beef at Christmas and are so very sad about not being able to support our local business. Hope they revise policy and follow safety guidelines ! read more

I wish I could give it negative stars in the review! Farmer George should be shut down for being a liar! My little sister took her FFA, grain fed pig to farmer george, and we didn't even get one piece of her original pig! He gave us cuts from some other pig!!! When we started sharing this with other FFA members and local pig farmers that almost laughed at us for being so naive as to bring our pig to Farmer George. Apparently he has a reputation of pulling this pig switch on unsuspecting victims! He then turns around and sells YOUR pig in his shop for profit, and you're stuck with his cheap gross boar! read more

This place was gross. Literally and figuratively! Really small, dirty. But worse than all of that was the fact that their cured meats were made with MSG. MSG is an excitotoxin and "flavor enhancer" that actually excites certain cells in the body so much they self destruct. I'm sure a chemist could explain it better but that's the gist of it. I guess it's good that they actually tell you they add it? That's worth the one star I suppose.. Anyway! Besides all that, their prices are really high and it's just not worth it. read more

I cannot comment on their service with respect to bringing in an animal and having them prep it for you, we have only visited to pick up some chops/chicken/red meat. We were very happy with this place and when the chicken is not sold out you can really tell a difference between theirs and the grocers. We ordered a ham for Easter and it was perfect. read more

This is a small locally owned busness that is a full service meat store. (I'd say meat market, but you might get the wrong impression.) They also offer a variety of meat preparation services. It has alot of history in the Port Orchard area. Their jerky is GREAT!! It's a cute store that reminds me of a simpler time. It smelled like fresh blood when I was in there. Go figure. Only reason for the 4 stars; the building...way too small! as far as meat and I mean just about any kind of cut or kind you need, Farmers has it. Custom meat packs and special requests are outstanding; I have eaten meats from other local shops and none compares to this place, its locally owned, operated and the pride shows; I have had deer, elk and moose prepared here and have been blown away with the taste and freshness. well once again, horrid customer service. I recently traded a hog for a steer. well the hog was done at home meats which is who I use. the steer was done at farmer George. The only conversations that happened where between me and the person I traded with. farmer George NEVER called me to ask what cuts I wanted or to let me know it was done. So I had no choice in the cuts at all. the wrap is once again horrid. thin cheap saran wrap and no butcher paper to prevent freezer burn. the cuts where inconsistent at best also. needless to say I am less than pleased more like horrified and if I trade again I will arrange to have it cut and wrapped elsewhere. Had a 240 pound pig butchered at Farmer George. When we picked up the meat, the first thing I noticed was bacon. We ordered fresh side, not bacon. The next thing I noticed was that there was only one package of 2 pork chops and one single roast. We had ordered chops and roasts, but somehow they are not here. The next thing I noticed was there were 3 hamhocks. I know that pig had 4 legs when it got to Farmer George. We called right away and the woman we talked to (owner's wife) said she didn't take the order, and the woman who did take the order would be back Monday. Monday comes, no phone call. Tuesday my wife calls and speaks to the owner this time. He agrees to investigate, and calls back the next day saying he found our missing meat, and would also make up for the fresh side we ordered, and someone would deliver it to us. The delivery person would call and arrange the time. Haven't heard anything from them again. Called Thursday before they closed, no answer. Left a message. No return call that night or the next day. Tomorrow is July 4th, so I am sure we will not be hearing from them. We paid over $1300 so far, and are being treated horribly. They screwed up our order on several counts, and are not even trying to get us the meat we paid for. I would definitely not recommend anyone going there because they have horrible customer service and don't seem to be bothered by the mistakes they made with our order. read more

We have been using Farmer George's for a long as I can remember to butcher our hogs and steers. We have always received excellent meat back. We also buy our raw dog food and family meats from them. The only reason I took one star away is that its in a slightly inconvenient place, Bethel is the busiest road in Port Orchard, and the building itself is very small. I love Farmer Georges Beef bacon and pork sausages. They are always nice and helpful when I go in to shop. I love they have a variety of rare meats like alligator, kangaroo and rattle snake. It's a nostalgic building with an old fashion feel to it. I have been cautioned by many people to take my butcher animals somewhere else due to order mistakes. How do you ruin a pig? Bring it to Farmer George! The place is a madhouse, which can explain that they have screwed up every order, and every one of my friend's orders. So when you are the only game in town, you start to think you can do no wrong. So, let's start from the beginning. Customer service. Chaotic, confusing, non-existent. Order sheet, chaotic, and makes no sense. Which is OK, since they usually don't follow it. So you get the wrong stuff, or someone else's stuff. Their cutting/packaging, very poor.I have found bones in the weirdest cuts, that you would never have bones in. 300 lb. hogs with almost no ribs. They don't pay attention to size, so you get a tiny chop with a large one, so portion control is, a pain. Hams that should be halved or quartered, are instead, cut like steaks, how do you carve that? Of course nothing is more fun that defrosting one thing, to find you have something else there (mislabled). Or trying plan a meal for four and finding out the roast you defrosted is MOSTLY BONE!!! Of course you can't tell, since everything is frozen, and wrapped, so you have to wait until you defrost to see what you have. Then their is their smoking! Disgraceful! They most smoke the hams for such a short period of time, since when you cut into them, they look like steak (pink and very soft) an almost no flavor whatsoever. The bacon, the same. Basically their work is way sub-par! This is NOT a butcher in the real sense of the word. Hopefully someone new will open up and get some competition going, because they are terrible. If you are coming off the street, and want some meat... probably OK. The place is a mess, and don't bother asking for help, they are WAY to busy to help you. read more

My husband and I have had our half hog processed there two times now and have been very pleased with their level of customer service in addition to the delicious taste! We also now only get our beef and breakfast sausage from them. Not only is it less expensive but the grass fed beef is local and I feel good feeding this to my family. I've used a lot of slaughter houses for my animals over the years and my first experience with this one will be my last. When you run a retail operation you at least need to be personable and kind to customers. Secondly be organized and clean. But most of all don't short the customer on his meats being processed. Farmer George's is absolutely amazing! Best selection of meats I've ever been privvy to. My favorite is the tri-tip, and their bacon is the best I've ever had. They have a wide variety of cuts, sausages, jerky's, and "exotic" meats, at a pretty fair price. Kangaroo, frog legs, turtle, alligator, rattlesnake (very pricey), elk, ostrich, buffalo... it's truly wonderful what you can bring home from this place. And it's all fresh. Sometimes you'll walk in just as they're butchering some newly killed herbivore--it gets no fresher than that! I wish I had another set of hands, so I could give this place four thumbs up! read more

Poor service on cutting order. I had a hog and lamb farm slaughtered on October 1, 2009. They finally cut my 92 lb carcass this morning and I received 60 lbs of cut product. A lamb should only hang long enough to chill and there should only be a small hand of waste. I did not receive my riblets, they were boned out and put into stew/ground. They cut my hog this past Saturday. A hog should also only hang long enough to chill. When I called to express my displeasure and question as to why there was so much shrink on my lamb, Chad told me I would need to be more specific next time if I wanted my meat cut a certain way (he took my cutting order) I replied that there probably wouldn't be a next time to which he replied, " Then why am I even talking to you?" It has become apparent that in there bid to have more business they are no longer interested in customer service (or simply hire people who lack service skills) I would rather load my animals onto a truck and drive to another county than have my animals go through this shop again. I would rather shoot them and let them rot in the field than deal with Chad again. This ends what had been 20 plus year relationship. I'm sorry Joe, but I will be going elsewhere. ADDITION: When I defrosted my Thanksgiving ham there was a fly wrapped in with it. That was just super. I picked up my smoked meat after the, " Then why am I even talking to you?" conversation. read more

Service is iffy at best. They do have tons of meat though. Went in asking them to shave meat like you would get at a deli, instead they cut it in strips like for teriyaki. Will not be coming back. read more
