    Rye Toast
    Alex M.

3.5 overall. I ended up at Farmers Cafe as my original breakfast destination was closed for vacation. The restaurant does appear to be located within a farming community, and it is part of a strip of businesses. There is a parking lot onsite. The cafe has a community feel, which as someone from outside the community, it felt as though all eyes were on us when we walked in. Most of the patrons within the restaurant were talking to each other across the tables and booths. Our server greeted us right away and was very welcoming. We ordered a variety of dishes to try, and the prices were very low. They offer most of the standard breakfast fare, including pancakes, french toast, skillets, and biscuits and gravy. The breakfast menu filled an entire page, and the subsequent pages were dedicated to lunch items. We ordered the standard breakfast with scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, and rye toast, plus pancakes, and biscuits and gravy. The portions served were a good size for the price, and I liked that I could order 2 pancakes instead of 3. Overall, this breakfast was fine. There was nothing revolutionary about the food. The biscuits by themselves did not have a lot of flavor, but we're better once the gravy was added. The pancakes were hot and fresh, but were a little on the tough side. The scrambled eggs were overcooked compared to how I typically like them. The hash browns were very good, crispy on the top but soft on the bottom. The star of the show was the rye toast, which I would definitely recommend. I personally would not drive out of my way to return to this restaurant, as there are better options closer to my home. It does seem to be a hit among the locals, and it appeared that most patrons knew each other and were having a great time. If you find yourself in the Carleton area, you might want to give the Farmer's Cafe a try!

Not a bad dinner in the place! My family and I go there often. I highly recommend this warm, friendly, nice cafe out in the country.

This is not the type of restaurant that you'd expect in a coastal fishing village. My four star rating is based on the above and value. As pictured, the cuban sandwich and onion rings. I prefer battered rings, but these were breaded and seasoned. They were the best breaded rings i've ever had. The cuban sandwich was traditional with ham, pulled pork, cheese and pickles. It wasn't pressed, but that didn't affect the taste, just the appearance. The servers were very attentive and refilled my iced tea three times. Very clean eating area and restroom.

We chose Habor Hook & Grille. This restaurant sits right across the street from the harbor, hence part of the name, and the food pics looked appealing. It was almost 9pm on a Tuesday night, so there weren't many people. It was rather dark when we entered, so I inquired if it was too late to get dinner and we were told the restaurant was serving until 10pm. The restaurant and bar area was a large open area with very high ceilings. There is an outdoor area for seating and what looked like a bar area as well. I asked about daily specials and our server told us there weren't any due to the Harbor Hook & Grille just implemented a new menu with several new offerings. Our server was very friendly and attentive. We ordered the Calamari appetizer (served with a thicker marinara sauce), the Harbor Cubano sandwich with fries, and the Tuna Poke Bowl. Tha Calamari was good, but could've used some additional seasoning as it was somewhat bland. The Harbor Cubano sandwich was also good - roasted pork, sliced ham, Swiss cheese, dill pickles, and mustard. There wasn't much mustard if any, so our server offered any of their sauces - a garlic aioli was selected. This sandwich was served with fries. I am not sure if it was because we arrived so late or what may have happened, but these fries were somewhat mushy and limp. They may have been sitting for a while or undercooked. The Tuna Poke Bowl, in my opinion, was the highlight of our food selections. The flavor of the tuna, cucumber, carrots, radishes, and pickled onions were topped with a spicy sauce that paired very well with this dish. All-in-all a decent dining experience. I would've gone with 3.5 stars if available in Yelp! scoring.

We were escorted to our table by our lovely host, and when we arrived at our table in the back of the restaurant, there was a cute "happy birthday" table card waiting for us. This was incredibly thoughtful and a nice touch for our celebration dinner. Also, I love how this restaurant is decorated - the art work, the furniture, and plants - all come together to create a welcoming, cozy, warm atmosphere for any dining experience. I also love how the menu continuously rotates and highlights fresh produce from local suppliers. We both ordered a different dish and shared, plus we had some leftovers, so the portions are very generous. We also tried some of the oysters with vinaigrette they were fresh and delicious. To conclude our dinner, we were gifted with a DELIGHTFUL banana pudding with a scoop of ice cream and a candle to make a wish (though our wish for a wonderful meal and dining experience was throughly satisfied already ) Thanks again for a great time bellflower!

The salad was fresh and well dressed - simple but good. The second starter was sardine tin. Very very good. Not overly fishy and the garnishes served with it were perfect. OMG these sautéed garden veggies were the best! The other main was a Japanese curry dish. Here is why the five starting dropped to a four. It was just ok. We would not order again. For dessert we had the bread pudding- another star for the night! To the owner, terrific staff. Everyone we engaged in, were positive and knowledgeable. They are a great team! Looking forward to a second visit!

This is kind of a hard review for me. I REALLY wanted to love this place, but a few things went…read morekind of wrong, and the ambiance, although really interesting, was off. The drinks were good, but again, a hitch. Service too... So, two of us ordered the French dip sandwich. They were just OK at best. Really no flavor, the roll was kind of wrong and the jus was tasteless. I asked (several times) for some horseradish, and I would guess it's still on its way to the table... 2 folks ordered the fried walleye, and one said it was REALLY good and the other said it was really over cooked. 1 person ordered the burger and said it was great. The last person ordered the salmon and did like it. The standout sides were the brussels sprouts and the fries. Both are very, very good. No comments about the other sides. The person across the way ordered the bruleed sweet potatoes and they looked amazing. The ambiance. What a cool place inside. A cool mix of furnishings with some kitsch factor. Not in a bad way from aesthetics, but in practicality, a big miss. When we were taken to our table, we were presented with a 1950's style dinette and chairs. Again, really kitschy, but not at all fun to sit in. The place has a cool mix of all kinds of stuff, but the noise was deafening. We tried to talk to one another, but it was really hard. Just too much background noise from all the people in a concrete, brick and steel room. Too bad. The drinks... So, I took a chance and ordered my martini. I explained how I wanted it mixed, etc. and the bartender did a superb job! Hats off to him for making a great martini! The big issue was one of our guests wanted a Bloody Mary. The waitress explained that they have great Bloody Mary's as they make their own mix. After the drinks were ordered, the waitress came back to the table to let us know they were out of Bloody Mary mix. Mind you, this is 6:00 on a Saturday. That shouldn't happen. The service... All of the drinks were ordered at the same time, and they came out in a staggered fashion over a period of 15 minutes. Same thing with our dinners. Interestingly, the hold up with the entrees was the 2nd French Dip. I would guess if the guy making the sandwiches saw 2 of the same thing on the same ticket, he'd make them both at the same time. That second sandwich took at least 15 minutes to get to the table. We're all being polite and waiting for his meal to deliver so we can all eat at the same time. Cold fish, anyone? And I'd still like to know where my horseradish went. Oh, parking in the lot to the left of the building is stupid expensive. Park in the garage across the street and save $20 bucks. All in all, our check came to about $100.00 for 3 of us. That's without the tip. My meal was a solid 2 to 3-star event but factoring in the others' opinions and negating the Bloody Mary incident and service, I'll give it 4 stars. Pretty sure I'll go back, but probably not too soon.
