Chicken casserole with Farmhouse caviar and corn nuggets.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Very quaint establishment just off Hwy 411.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Quickly seated and waited on. Full menu available, but the daily specials caught our attention. Senior players is same as non-senior, but $3 less. All food was very good, but cornbread could be moister. Will definitely return.

It was four minutes from our hotel and a block off the main drag. We loved the outside AND the inside. Five stars. Our waitress was a sweetheart and very helpful. When I asked about the coleslaw, she brought me a taste. It was good, but not the creamy kind I really like. So I ordered the Senior Special - one meat ( chicken casserole) and 2 sides (peaches and corn nuggets) with cornbread. Husband got the popcorn shrimp and crinkle fries. Five stars for service and varied menu - especially the inexpensive senior specials! When the food came, we could feel the heat coming off of it. Everything was so good! I loved the chicken casserole- like the inside of a pot pie with crackers instead of a crust mixed in. The corn nuggets were perfect, and corn bread tasted like it was made from scratch. Peaches were good. Husband had no complaints about his food, and ate it all. Five stars for the food. There was so much to see, all around us. The decor was eclectic- vintage Coca-Cola memorabilia, cows, old signs, horses, chickens, and lots of signs to welcome and show love. Five stars for decor. In a review, someone mentioned dessert. They regretted not taking it to go or eating it after dinner. We don't like regrets, so we ordered the carrot cake AND the peanut butter pie. They were equally delicious. Dessert gets five stars. This place has it all - including my vote for 5 *****! P. S. ASK for the Senior Special. It says it in the menu. I pointed - I didn't ask. But it was worth $7.75 (Senior Special is $6), so I can't complain!

After a fantastic train ride- what better meal than a farmhouse, home cooked, delicious lunch! I had already researched this place, but even the train recommended Farmhouse and a couple other local restaurants. John and I both ordered specials- a steal! I had the pot roast with mashed potatoes and corn on the cob- all of wish was delicious. I WISH I had ordered pie to go! John got the salisbury steak with corn on the cob, white beans with Virginia ham and applesauce and he devoured everything- loved it. Robert got a buffalo chicken wrap with fries that was enormous and he was stuffed and happy. They were very busy and cranking! Service was great, food was fantastic and the price was right. I left saying that may be the best meal we will have all vacation!!! My only regret- not taking pie to go. What was I thinking????????? Blasphemous.

Our meals. Husband loved the 3 bean salad

Service was good, food was good. Total came out to 38$. Only thing I didn't like that much was the popcorn shrimp breading.

Folks come in very casual attire, some arrive in fully formal clothes, and everything in between. It's a really comfortable vibe and that's something that I appreciate. Maybe you do, too? The owners are a couple and chances are they'll be the ones waiting on you, preparing your food, and treating you love a neighbor who came out to have a good time. Locals who I know LOVE it here. The food is always great, and if the have homemade egg rolls, try them. They're amazing! Also, one of the best burgers I've ever had, and among the ways that we're spoiled in Athens, we have several places with GREAT burgers. Seriously. I mean, don't come to Athens just to eat at a chain. Come on downtown and try places like this and nibble around the edges of town for a few other treats. The name is appropriate. It's THE OPEN DOOR in "the friendly city" in a small, pretty, southern town fercryinoutloud. So I expected that and T.O.D. delivered. Well, I ate-in several times and I don't even know if they Door Dash. It's just an expression, OK? This is not the review to take literally. It's still honest. I've had steak, chicken, prime rib, burgers, the aforementioned egg rolls, and a catfish dinner and it was delicious EVERY time. Every damn time. Folks enjoy the drinks here and this place has huge extra rooms that they open when it's warranted. They don't always have enough staff to be like a chain restaurant/bar and they employ some intermittent staff for busy events, so I don't come expecting a hostess type greeting, white linen, and tables set and ready. They're usually hustling to keep up, take care of their guests who are, from my observation(s), usually friends and neighbors and regulars, and a few folks who are just visiting sprinkled-in for good measure. Yet, it's not so local that the player piano stops and everyone stares when you swing through the saloon doors. Well, through the pretty front door and IF it had saloon doors. It's friendly and welcoming without people being all up in your business. If you're feeling like you're in a hurry, take a deep breath and relax and maybe sit at the bar.

Absolutely the best food in Athens. Best hamburger you can find and incredible service.read more

We were passing through and saw the full parking lot and thought, "Looks really busy, must be…read moregood." First of all, the menu is HUGE, for a bar! This is a red flag. When the special of the night is "Alfredo... with chicken, pork, or steak, take your pick!" and it's also already on the menu... this is a red flag. I quickly started scanning the menu for something that might not give me food poisoning. When the food is stored in outside freezers and there's a horde of live cats running around everywhere... it's a red flag. I love good bar food, but this was not good. My wife's Philly Cheesesteak tasted like propane gas. My chili dog was on par with something you might get at a junior high football game. Even my kids rejected their chicken tenders, which is saying something. Just 100% industrial, frozen, crap. The $13 margarita was even bad. It tasted like bad sour mix and may have had a drop or two of tequila in it. Giving one star for the server, who tried her best. And the location on the river was very nice. Service was slow too though. This was the worst $85 "dinner" I've had in a very, very long time. For the love of god, reduce the size of your menu and do a few things really well. No one wants a bunch of frozen entrees at a bar.
