Man, how do you describe this place? It is unique on so many levels, and all in a good way. It's like an event. Located about 20 minutes outside of Gettysburg proper, we had reservations for a weeknight dinner. We arrived to the very large parking lot in front of the massive historic red building restaurant and barn along with a whole lot of other people coming in to experience this evening at Hickory Bridge Farm. Once inside there were tons of people waiting to get called, and there are crackers and cider to enjoy while waiting. Once your name is called, you pass through another set of doors into the MASSIVE open dining area with wood ceilings and pillars and a sea of tables. Most of the tables were large round or super long wooden tables just filled with families. We were just a party of two, but they also have smaller tables for us as well. Our server was Ashley and she was absolutely wonderful from start to end this evening. Now about how this all works.... You pay one price, except for cocktails, and the food begins to roll out to your table...and keeps coming! Dish after dish was placed on our table, to the point we had to teeter some right on the edge. It's all family style service, so nothing is portioned out. It's large dish after large dish after large dish...LOL The food we were served on this evening was good home cooked items. They start you off with spiced peaches, and salad, then came Chicken, brisket, potatoes, veggies, bread, etc... and of course you have to have dessert which they offered us two, of which they said, "you can have one or the other..or both... OINK I say... Hickory Bridge Farm is not fine dining, it is absolutely a good old fashion down home family dining experience. Every table was having a great time, and the food was good and certainly filling...And the attention from everyone there from beginning to end was the best. read more

What a terrific experience dining at Hickory Bridge Farm Restaurant. We had a trip to Gettysburg planned for a few months and a few days before we arrived, our itinerary changed and we had to find a new place to have dinner. I was looking for recommendations on Reddit when someone said something something to the effect of, "Hickory Bridge Farm - best food in Gettysburg." So I did my own research and thought it looked like an authentic family dinner experience and that's exactly what it was. It literally felt like we were sitting down to dinner like we use to decades ago. The setting is incredible, the store is great, the event center looked like it would a wonderful place for a wedding or party, and now we want to come back to stay at the cottages. Most of all, the food & hospitality were both outstanding. We had a conversation at the end of the night with owner Mary Lynn (I hope I have that right) and she was as sweet as could be. We stayed at one of their cottages and it was wonderful. The breakfast was great as was the service. The country store is super cool to visit and reminisce of the good ole days. My family has come here several times over the last 10 years so we decided to make the trek for a Friday Thanksgiving meal. It was always very good and a kind of experience due to the farm aesthetic and ambiance. Post-pandemic we've all observed the price increases and cut backs so it was expected they would do so. They did. But there's no place around like this that I've heard of or been to. We drove from the Baltimore-area to come here and probably won't again due to the changes but it's definitely worth a visit for those who haven't been here before. They have a country store and bed-and-breakfast. The actual restaurant used to be a horse barn and they have hot apple cider provided for free while you wait. And generally you will wait because it's very popular, for good reason. There is a train that rides around the perimeter of the main room that is nice, especially for kids. The food is family style which means everyone shares and it's all you can eat which is nice. It's a preset menu which includes house salad, spiced peaches, vegetables, stewed apples, corn fritters, beverage & dessert. One of their big draws is the salad dressing which is this sweet homemade bacon dressing that comes with the salads. A family favorite also is their crab imperial but it was just okay this time around. The brisket was a bit tough. Most everything else was good, notably the spiced peaches and broccoli with cheese. They have a nice dessert selection though the servings were small. Bread pudding came about the size of a brownie. The angel food cake with berries looked really good and was about twice the size. All in all, this is worth a trip to eat in an old style farmhouse with lots of character and things to see. They have old household items scattered around. Plus it's near Gettysburg which is scenic in its own way. Ski Liberty is fairly close too. Great for the kids ($15 for ages 6-12) but maybe check out their menu for upcoming dates of meals you want to try and you may find a great new place to come. However, if it's holiday eating you want, be sure to schedule a year in advance or you miss out which speaks for itself of this loved and cherished restaurant. read more

Very poor customer service! I made a reservation for 8 in December for a May show. I requested a specific table and was assured that we would be seated there. Two days before the event, I called to confirm and was assured that all was well and we would be seated at the table requested. On the day of the event, we were seated at a different table, far from the stage and not where we had expected. The manager was unapologetic ( actually never apologized) and stated that they had a larger group that wanted to sit together. Never did she take any responsibility for the change nor did she acknowledge our disappointment with the situation. Apparently the prospect of the $$$ from the larger party, took precedence over our reservation which had been made earlier than that of the larger party. Perhaps if we had been told of this change prior to arriving, the disrespect that we felt may not have been so sharp. Needless to say, I do not recommend this establishment based solely on the complete lack of customer service and the discourteous treatment that we received. read more

We were fortunate enough to stay in the country suite. Incredible it was like staying in a museum. We just had dinner here and I was impressed from the moment I walked in the door. The interior is original with the most amazing floor! Now, on to the food... I have Celiac Disease and called ahead and asked about gluten free options. I was told that they can make anything they serve gluten free and that is exactly what they did. I was able to have the same meal as my husband, with just a few alterations to my servings. They even served me gluten free dinner rolls! Everything was so good! This is a 3rd generation owned and managed restaurant in a barn with broad American Chestnut flooring. The fixed price meal includes coffee/tea and is many courses that vary depending on the day you visit. Ours started with bread and spiced peaches, yes peaches, which are delicious. This is followed by salad and then by a number of side dishes we lost count of that included glazed carrots, very tasty potatoes, green beans, spiced apples, and other things. The entrees served to us are a fantastic crab imperial, good ham, and good baked chicken. After this we had refills on crab imperial and some side dishes, and then dessert. We could have tried them all but had the very good apple crisp and the ice cream pie. Some other points are there is plenty of parking, it is a restaurant comfortable for the whole family including young children, and the service is energetic. We were impressed by the service. We had arrived for lunch, which we assumed was served based on the hours posted by Yelp, and the parking lot was empty. Bert's mom (generation 2) took time and came outside and asked if we needed help. She explained they were open for dinner at 4 and fit us in with a reservation which was quite nice. We also met Bert (generation 3) again and he sat with us for a few minutes to discuss the families philosophy of among other things making food fresh each day. All-in-all it was nice to try everything without having to decide what to order, the food varied from good to exceptional, and we will return. They are a strong 4 stars. If all the food had been hot, some was warm, I might have rated them higher. Suggestion - call ahead. The Yelp hours reflect office hours and they have days when they do serve lunch, dinner, special meals (e.g. Lincoln's birthday), and have large parties that may require a reservation to arrange your meal around. read more

The food here is mediocre at best. The only one of the several items we were served that could be described as "good" were the corn fritters. The vegetables (carrots & green beans) tasted like they came directly out of cans. The turkey & ham were pretty much tasteless. The ambience was very nice. Came here for a Saturday dinner with my husband. Was in Gettysburg for weekend and google, yelp and word of mouth brought me here. Made a reservation about two weeks in advance. Arrived at the restaurant from Downtown Gettysburg about 20+ minutes early. The drive there was filled with long rural winding roads (I'm from the city so it was different). I wouldn't want to drive it at night but for my early dinner with sunlight before and after I thought the drive was fine. As soon as we arrived we were greeted promptly offered refreshments and taken to our table. Our table was the first two top table to the right after walking in. A little bit wobbly but no big deal. Took in the rustic decor. The place is cute and quaint. We were given a beverage list (which included alcohol) that were not included in their dinner price. So the first faux paux happened when I asked the server the brand of their house wines. She didn't know so she asked the manager in front of me who stated all their wines were local to PA. I know PA wineries aren't that acclaimed but I wanted to try one. So I ordered the house wine Pinot Grigio because it was a local PA wine. My wine bottle arrived and I had to laugh once the server left. I was delivered a Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi California wine. Definitely not local. However, I didn't say anything I think I was more happy it wasn't sutter home, barefoot or yellow tail. And best believe I drank the wine! Bread was delivered to our table along with canned peaches. I like canned peaches. Childhood staple growing up. However I could do without it. No true value. I am not sure if I can say the bread slices were homemade. It wasn't bad. But I have had chain restaurants provide better starring bread. Salads came next. Omg the warm bacon dressing one of the top salad dressing I have ever tried. It made that salad and it was just divine. The salad was just iceberg and shredded cheddar. Thank god the dressing saved the day because the salad was kind of sad like throw me a cucumber or even a sliced red onion. Anyway moving on our entrees served family style arrived. Roast beef, oven fried chicken, crab imperial and some sides. Roast beef was sad. It look processed too. It was okay. Given very two small pieces. I looked at yelp reviews it did not look like some of roast beef from other ppl's pics. We did not ask for anymore. Chicken was okay. Not entirely dry, kind of moist but blandly seasoned. It was not crispy and it was supposed to be oven fried chicken. The crab imperial. I tasted crab but consistency was different than crab imperial that I have had. It was creamy mushy like. When I worked in restaurants in my college days crab imperial had some give to it. This was almost the texture of yogurt. We didn't finish it all but thought it was good even despite the texture. The sides were mashed potatoes, mixed, apples, corn fritters, stuffing and gravy. Mashed were not homemade (maybe 3/4 instant and 1/4 real - I have known some restaurants to do stuff like that) anyway they weren't entirely too bad gravy helps and I just love mashed potatoes. I am not a stuffing person but this stuffing was the second highlight of the meal behind the bacon dressing. It was so good. The mixed vegetables were a joke (bland overly steamed and unseasoned) and went untouched. The corn fritters were okay. I have had so much better elsewhere. Apples went untouched. They looked okay. No refills on the food for us. Ordered carrot cake for dessert after. It was okay. My husband ate it all. I thought It was way too rich but not too bad. Disclaimer though I'm not a big sweets person. Service was friendly. Sometimes I thought we should have been checked on sooner and more frequently as getting water refills took a little too long but no big deal. Place wasn't that packed but as we were leaving it was starting to fill up. So the verdict. I paid $27.95 (each) for a family style seated limited buffet. Was it worth it. For quantity absolutely. You could eat as much as you want. The menu of the night certainly made me feel the price was reasonable prior to eating - chicken, crab and roast beef. I have paid more than $30 just for a single entree elsewhere. But after tasting it and walking away and saying the bacon dressing and stuffing were the best things ever I wasn't sure if it was worth it. Definitely don't feel ripped off though. I think the ambiance and style of dining was worth it. I wondered if some of the food was just reheated from night before since this menu was Fri-Sun. But I'm glad I experienced it. So we paid just under $100 with tip included which was 2 adult dinners, $20 bottle of wine and $18 tip (for buffets which yes I consider this a seated limited buffet I usually don't tip the standard 20% and will do 15% but since it was more individualized and curated I gave 22%). We left stuffed but nothing crazy which I liked. We were in and out within 40 mins - not bad for a 3 course meal. read more

Went for Easter dinner and it was delicious. Everything was hot and tasty. We love the warm salad dressing with bacon. The servings weren't as large as in the past but we were asked several times if we wanted more. I'm not a ham lover but their ham in pineapple sauce was exceptional. The staff was friendly and attentive. Rustic atmosphere, several other buildings on the property with antique farm equipment etc. It's a little pricy but my family and I really enjoyed our meal. read more

Pretty much an annual trek to celebrate our son's birthday each year and this year was no exception. We've been coming to HBF for many years now and the food has always been hot, delicious and accompanied by a great service team. My son and I went through three dishes of the crab imperial and the oven fried chicken was delicious on this weekend. The country ribs were a touch dry, so I focused more on the seasoned potatoes, spiced apples and fritters that tasted like mini funnel-cake balls. As much as we love coming here, it's become more of a special occasion than a regular thing now. The hour-long drive for us, as well as the $26.95 price, plus tip, plus alcohol made it a $200 meal for six of us...delicious as it was, it's just starting to get out of our range to come more often. We had the pleasure of eating here tonight and LOVED it! My in-laws who live in the area made the reservations and surprised us. Since we're from Los Angeles we aren't used to these types of dinners. My grandmother was of German descent from Pittsburgh, so much of the food we ate this evening reminded me of her. It brought tears to my eyes. The spiced peaches were my absolute favorite. The turkey dinner with stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes and vegetables was incredible. After dinner as we were walking out the owner of the property asked if we would like her to open the general store for us. We were the only ones in there! There were tons of antiques all over including many items that had never been opened from a store at the turn of the century. It was incredible!! She was so friendly and kind, we all felt like we could've sat down and talked with her for hours. This place is special. Excellent food & service, great atmosphere, and old memories for my mother who's father used to farm the land many years ago.

My husband and I went here tonight for a quiet dinner but it was pretty noisy tonight. We have been there many times in the past and really loved it. But this time not so much. The price went up to over $33 and the food was OK but nothing special. I think they changed their crab imperial recipe from before it seemed kind of watery. The peaches also were different, they used to be spiced but now just taste like they come from a can. Warm bacon dressing should have a little real bacon in it. And I was never a fan of the oven fried chicken especially paying that kind of money. But other than that the setting and restaurant are always very cozy and welcoming. The corn fritters were good. My husband wanted to go and try the brisket but did not enjoy it like he thought he would. Overall I don't think we will be going back. It's too bad because this was always our favorite place for special occasions. And we always recommended it to people visiting. read more

We were out picking apples and getting cider at a nearby orchard and decided to ask google to find us a place to eat. This is what popped up. What a pleasant surprise it was. Our family of five enjoyed a wonderfully prepared family style meal with all the sides and fixings. From the salad with the tasty bacon dressing, corn fritters, barbq ham,chicken and a great tasting crab imperial with glazed carrots and broccoli and potatoes on the side. Add fresh Arnold palmers to drink and we each finished it off with a tasty desert. The hot apple crisp was mine and it was tasty. I enjoyed every bit of the food served. We finished our visit by spending a bit of time in the old museum building and checking out the general store and post office. I do believe that the stuffing... a crunchy, buttery delight...is illegal in 37 states and the District of Columbia! Lucky for everyone in PA, it's legal here! From the warm apple cider and cream cheese/pepper jam spread while we waited to be seated to the family-style 3-course meal, everything was incredible! Hickory Bridge is a restaurant that when you tell people about it and they ask where it is you have to tell them that if you have never been there, you will never find it. Hidden back in the country outside of Gettysburg this place truly is special. My family and I go here on special occasions and have yet to have a less than favorable experience. Beautiful dining room with a family style meal and attentive staff. If you plan on going to Hickory you should definitely check their website first. It is family style dining! There are no menus. You get served what the meal of the evening is, that being said the meal is diverse enough that you shouldn't have a hard time filling your stomach, not to mention that its all you can eat. You should also get a reservation, not always packed but it would be a shame to drive all the way out and not get a table. The crab imperial is not to be missed. We have made it a stop, a couple times a year, in our travel from Dayton Oh to our sons in Boston for a number of years, even though it is considerably out of the way from a direct route for us. I went last Sunday for the first time, the chicken wasn't even brown, I had to hold the little piece of chicken, and use my fork, the chicken was so tough, I could barely pull it apart, the pork was ok, the apple cinnamon stuffing was really sweet, plus the crab Imperial tasted like it was full of bread, after half the bowl of Imperial?? I only tasted crab 3- times, , we never asked for a refill on our food, not one thing, I thought the waitress would have asked what's wrong, but she didn't, she talked my wife into looking at the desert menu, we didn't even want that!! I absolutely LOVE Hickory Bridge Farm. One of my top 10 restaurants in the world! I've been going here with my family since the 80's and have never been disappointed. Even if you don't like one of the entree's, you will LOVE the crab imperial. It is the best I have ever had. So creamy and crabby. VERY crabby. My favorite entree's are, obviously the crab imperial, the baked ham with pineapple dressing and the fried chicken. I'm a little embarrassed to say that I have never had any of the pit cooked meats in all the years I have been going. The ribs are great. The chicken with cordon bleu sauce is really moist and creamy and delicious. I love the warm bacon dressing on the salad. It's a simple salad of iceberg lettuce, cheese and dressing but it is so yummy. The green beans taste like they were fresh, then canned....so very good. I realized today that I don't even remember if I've ever had dessert there. I'm sure I have. But the dinner is so good that it is more memorable. MaryLynn and her family are so friendly and welcoming. She makes you feel like she is having you over for Sunday dinner with her family. I like that we can bring our own wine. It's a little expensive. But it doesn't matter. I've eaten so much crab imperial that it is totally worth every cent. And I like that I don't have to pay overpriced bar prices since we can bring our own wine. Oh those fritters............I forgot about them. So yummy and moist on the inside and crunchy deliciousness on the outside. And I LOVE those spiced peaches! I make them at home a couple times a year, thanks to the recipe on their website. I've lived in Oklahoma for 20 years now and every time I go back east to visit family, Hickory Bridge Farm reservations are already made while making my plane reservations!
