I purchased a sleep apnea mouthguard from this office after being told it would be covered by my insurance. It wasn't. I ended up paying $5,000 out of pocket, and when the insurance denied the claim, I was left frustrated and never returned. Years later, I came back simply needing replacement rubber bands for the mouthguard. Not only did they refuse to provide them, but they also wouldn't show me how to attach them without scheduling--and paying for--another appointment. I left the office disappointed. The front desk staff was dismissive and rude. My husband posted a review recently about how upsetting this experience was for me. All I needed was a basic rubber band replacement. Today, I received a phone call from the doctor. I had hoped it would be a chance to resolve things professionally. Instead, she raised her voice, interrupted me repeatedly, and left me feeling deeply disrespected. I work in the medical field, and I've never encountered such unprofessional behavior from a healthcare provider. Patients deserve to be heard, not belittled. I cannot recommend this doctor. Last Tuesday September 23 I was out for my weekday morning walk. I wasn't paying attention because I face planted on a corner sidewalk. Neighbors called the paramedics and I was in ER, ICU and then home. After I was released my son was able to arrange a late afternoon appointment that day with Dr. Yasamy so she could assess the damage to my teeth. She immediately arranged for implants for missing teeth and (which I've NEVER SEEN BEFORE) DROVE US HERSELF IN HER CAR to her oral surgeon , who then performed oral surgery THAT DAY! Arrogant and overpriced dentist. She comes across as warm and kind at first. I really liked her initially. Then I saw the real thing. I went to her for two years. She was rude to her employees on several occasions. It made me uncomfortable. She charged $8000+ for Invisalign. She didn't have any experience with Invisalign. She was new to offering Invisalign as a service and was learning on the fly as she was providing it to her patients. She didn't provide thorough Invisalign service as I learned after the fact from a friend who is a well-esteemed dentist in the area. I asked her why she charged so much more than others and she had no answer other than her superior USC education and her response was so rude and arrogant and emotional and off the charts I was absolutely at a loss for words. This dentist is a scam artist. My wife had a custom mouth guard for sleep apnea made here. And the office told her it would 100% be paid for by the insurance. But in order to do it, she had to pay the entire amount of $5,000 up front. Because there's a process they have to go through to get it pushed through with the insurance. So she followed their lead. The mouth guard arrived. The insurance still had not reimbursed. But the office assured us they would. A month later, it was completely denied. And the office just said oops. Sorry about that. Not even a partial reimbursement or offer of office credit. Nothing. A year later, the rubber bands that hold the mouth guard together got disconnected. And my wife just went into the office to ask them if they could help show her how to reconnect the rubber bands properly. And they told her she would need to make an appointment in order to do that. They wouldn't just show her how to put on the rubber bands to the mouth guard she unnecessarily paid $5k for. She would have to pay to make an appointment for them to show her. First they stole our money. Now this! There are hundreds of great dentists in LA. Do your best to avoid this one unless you enjoy being robbed. read more

Updated: 6/29/2015 After coming to see Dr. Yassamy for many years, I still give her service 5-stars. For the past year, I've been receiving TMJ treatment for my teeth grinding. At first, I was given a custom made night guard but Dr. Yassamy felt that there was more to the teeth grinding and recommended that I use an orthotic to fix my jaw alignment. I notice that I do not grit my teeth as much during the day as I used to. I have less jaw pain and sensitivity. Dr. Yassamy and her staff are caring, knowledgable and I still highly recommend their services. I can't recommend Dr. Yassamy enough. I've been coming to this office for years and Dr. Yassamy finds the best people to work with her. I'm a nervous wreck just to get my teeth cleaned and even worse at the prospect of cavities etc. it is a pleasure interacting with her and her team! I also really like Dr. Yassamy's commitment to technology. Every time I visit they have new stuff and being a technologist I really, really dig that. It's small stuff like emailing reminders with a link to confirm the visit to the bigger items like their computers, digital imaging and other devices which mean they can see more and do more. She uses the newest materials which means when you have to have stuff done what they use is a better product, it's about quality and doing the best job not the number of patients they can pump out in one day, this also means it's a more relaxed atmosphere in the office. Since they focus on preventative dentistry it means I'm really only here for cleaning and care and not for the major repairs. The things Dr. Yassamy has recommended has been based on my individual needs and my wife's dental plan and needs are specific to her. This is how things should be. This is why I come back. More so, this is why I drive an hour to visit Dr. Yassamy and will continue to do so for a long time to come. read more

This dentist is really not ethical. I agree with the other reviewer who says she is greedy. Her technicians tried to convince me that I needed a $1,600 teeth cleaning - which is Insane. She also made me a terrible nightguard that was broken in the back and cut up the inside of my cheek. I called the office in terrible pain and was given the run-around with two or three different assistants and then the doctor. They had zero sympathy for me even though they knew that I had been having TMJ problems for months, and this was my third nightguard. They also tried to pretend that the nightguard wasn't defective. When I went to see the doctor, she said she had contacted her lawyer because I was so incredibly rude on the phone. I admit I was in a lot of pain and pretty upset, but her technicians and she really made up a bunch of boloney that was rotten and that I never said. She tried to have me sign some absolutely ridiculous paperwork about legalities (basically admitting she messed up big time and that I wouldn't sue her for being in total pain), and then she stole my nightguard right out of my hand in the office and refused to return it! She wouldn't let go of it, and grabbed my arm and her assistant grabbed my arm too. I had wanted to keep it as proof of her botched job, and send a picture to the California Dentists Board. After she and her technician assaulted me, I just gave up and took the check she had offered me off of the table, even though she had said I couldn't take it unless I signed legal paperwork. So in agony, and pretty blown away by the office behavior, I rushed with my husband to see his dentist - who is awesome and took impressions for a new nightguard right away - she is my dentist now! Then the story of the refunded money - she refunded for the nightguard as well as the work they had done too. I deposited the check - which they then cancelled, and my bank charged me a fee for that. Then they sent me another check, for the cost of the nightguard alone - and more legal paperwork that they wanted me to mail back to them! What a laugh! This doctor and her staff are quacks, greedy, suspicious, lying quacks. She tried to tell me that I couldn't report her to the California Dental Board because she was a member - my new dentist knows better! She is on the Board too, and anyone can be reported and observed for malpractice. If you don't want to be ignored, belittled, cheated, lied to, waste precious time, or trust your medical care to a completely terrible dentists office - go somewhere else. Dr. Yassamy took over the practice from Dr. Goodreau whom I had seen for many years. I do not quibble with Dr. Yassamy's technical skills nor her chair-side manner. My problem is that every time I (or my wife) went in I felt like I was being sold something. One time the doctor and I casually discussed the possibility of a certain future treatment. To my suprise after speaking with the doctor I was escorted into a room followed by a young woman prepared with a treatment plan and a financial commitment. I have been going to Dr. Yassamy since she took the practice over from Drs Goodreau and Sundbye (who I also saw for several years prior to their retirements). She has spruced up and modernized the office in many ways both aesthetic and technical. It was a perfectly nice place before, now benefitting from a little feminine TLC. I like her practice a lot. I'm reviewing now because a couple of days ago I managed to chip a corner off my porcelain crown (in a non painful way, thank goodness). The office got me in the next morning, and I now have an invisible repair less than 45 minutes later, good as new. Dr. Yassamy is an excellent dentist, who repaired some bad work that had been done in the past (pre Goodreau/Sundbye). I had some amalgam fillings from long ago that were expanding and cracking my molars, which she gently repaired with crowns or new fillings--placing an emphasis on keeping as much original tooth as possible. Her hygienists are excellent with my kids, who both like the office as well. My youngest had a small cavity fix to a baby tooth that went without a hitch (he didn't even mind), no novocaine required. Dr. Yassamy is always brimming with information about the latest in dentistry research, and the classes she's taken (I ask, I am a curious person) and is cheerful and charismatic, with a cute accent. Since taking over this practice several years ago, she has put more emphasis on selling some services (whitening and invisilign), but I can't say I blame her when I see the insurance reimbursement rates on my statements. She was also aware of any discomfort I was experiencing during the procedure and did her best to mitigate any pain. I have been a patient of Dr. Yassamy for over 5 years. As a result it is with deep regret that I write this review. Though I do not question her experience within the field of dentistry, I take issue with her ethics, management ability and style. Since acquiring the business from Dr. Goodreau, over 5 years ago, the practice has slowly shifted in a different direction. Dr. Yassamy has more persistently and aggressively attempted to sell additional procedures. There has consistently been some type of sales pitch during each of my cleanings. More concerning are the pressure tactics and exaggerations used by Dr. Yassamy and her staff to convince patients of unnecessary treatments. Dr. Yassamy has sadly deviated from Dr. Goodreau's practice, which acted in the best interest of the patient. She is motivated by greed and is an unethical individual. The final straw came this week. Two weeks prior I had called to schedule my appointment for my yearly cleaning. When I went in, I was pleased with the hygienist, who I felt did a through job. However, when I went up to the counter, after my cleaning, to schedule my next appointment, I was surprised by the amount that was owed. I was then informed, after the fact, that a special cleaning had been performed. I found this concerning, considering I had never been made aware of what was done to my teeth and the fact that I never gave authorization. When I brought the issue to Dr. Yassamy's attention, she was dismissive and defensive. She stated that it was the patients responsibility to ask what treatment would be performed and that it was her common practice to perform procedures that were "necessary" for her patients. I explained that when I called in to schedule my appointment, I clearly stated that it was for a cleaning. I also explained that my concern was that I was not made aware of the procedure that was done and that I would incur an additional cost. She once again dismissed me and went on to say that she had been practicing for over 17 years and had never received a complaint. Based on other reviews, I find that statement to be false. I will not be going back to Dr. Yassamy's practice, and I would like to warn perspective and current patients to exercise caution. read more
