This is a store that caters to runners and their athletic shoe needs... not the usual place I would…read morebe seen shopping, but my sibkid needed some good fitting, supportive, ergonomic shoes for their cosmetology program so this was a recommended store to check out. The store is located in a relatively small storefront on J St., but the interior is spacious and with soaring ceilings, so soaring in fact that I did have to put in some earplugs at one point because there were so many people talking at pretty high decibels. It was like being a restaurant. We went on the MLK weekend and the store was packed with shoppers, many of whom seemed to be repeat customers. The focus of the store is getting the proper fit for the activity, and then aligning that with a particular style and brand/model of shoe that would theoretically work best. They are focused on selective and particular brands, such as Brooks and Hoka. The shoes are pricey (average price $200 for the Hokas) and they weren't advertising any sales, nor clearly pricing the shoes. In fact, the shoe browsing that you experience in a typical store- looking at and picking up shoes doesn't see to be encouraged here. Instead you're greeted by an associate immediately upon entering who is your "guide." They can help you with testing for sizing and gait, and they bring shoes for you to try, while helping you try on the shoes. It's definitely a full service shoe store. The foot testing on a walking/gait testing pad and a low platform was done for my sibkid by Alyzza, whom proved to be a knowledgeable, helpful, and pleasant shoe saleswoman. The results led to several shoe models and the resultant try-ons. A few extra were added as Alyzza tried to determine the best fit for her customer. Two different arch supports were tried and one pair was the winner ($60). Ultimately one pair was selected as the winner (Hoka/Bondi model in wide). The color desired (black) was not available in this store. We found out that if the shoe was available from the Elk Grove location it could be ready for pick up on J St in a couple days, but the ownership/reciprocity of the other two regional stores (Folsom and Roseville) was different, such that we had to physically pick them up ourselves. She double checked that the shoes were available in Roseville with a phone call, and said they'd be held for my sibkid for three days. There was also an online ordering option which could take upwards of two weeks. We ended up making the drive to Roseville where the transaction was handled efficiently. It was irritating to have to drive ten miles out of the way because the stores don't share ownership nor do reciprocal regional deliveries. It would have been a much worse drive on a normal M-F, so we lucked out. Alyzza definitely made this whole process positive and is a huge asset to the store. Pros: Foot testing, hands on fitting, big selection. Helpful staff if you luck out and get a great associate. Great return policy (30 days, worn outside ok). Cons: Limited brands, no sales, little customer self- selection, potential perceived time pressure to test shoes (I would hate this but my sibkid was fine with it), sizing availability and possible need to travel to pick up shoes. Street parking in Midtown.

I went here to buy some proper running shoes after years of just buying whatever Nikes were on…read moresale. Not necessarily because Nikes work best for me but just due to brand recognition. I've been running off and on for years but really know nothing about shoes or what I should be wearing for my body/running form. I arrived at 4pm (they close at 5), figuring an hour was plenty of time. There was a little bit of a wait for an employee to help with the 3D foot mapping- which was fine- plenty to see while waiting! The employee who ended up helping me was super friendly but I got the feeling they were new to this job. As someone who was buying their first pair of really nice (& expensive) running shoes, I was really relying on the staff's expertise. I was expecting someone to look at my 3D mapping results and tell me what shoe(s) would work best for me. The employee brought out several pairs for me to try but was hesitant to actually recommend anything. They just kept saying "well it's your personal preference". Which is fair. The problem is: I am inexperienced and relying on your expertise. I felt a bit rushed overall. Maybe give yourself 1.5-2hrs if you don't have a brand/style in mind. I ended up buying a pair of ($150) shoes that work pretty well for me. At first, they set off my planter fasciitis but I bought some specific innersoles ($50) and fixed the issue. In summary: I think this store is great for people who are experienced runners and know what they like/need in shoes. If you are a novice and need deeper help, maybe try one of the stores who put you up on a treadmill and watch your gate, foot strike etc.

I was very pleasantly surprised when Jessica told me that they actually had 4 pairs of them in stock, in her size! I bought them over the phone right then, and received the receipt via email almost right away. This lovely person didn't even mind my making a quick follow-up call to make sure I indeed gave her the correct size. Just a great experience overall, and quite possibly the best service from a Birkenstock store that I've had. The Birk's arrived, and another package is under the tree. Thank you, Jessica, for your kindness and courtesy.

An instanation of this was the sales person snickering to the second sales person thinking that she wasn't being observed but I gave my gf space to try on shoes so I just happen to glance up at the same time as the rep making the dismissive expression. Not cool. I get that working sucks for most people, but I was surprised at how it was directed at us. We go through shoes often as we are nurses. Maybe I'll keep it to online where everything else is..

My wife had a field day here thanks to Dan A!!! Thank you so much bc she bought the whole store…read moreout! Well almost! Can I tell you we had driven a hundred times past this store??? Bc my wife retired from working at the Med Center & basically can only wear good supportive shoes due to her plantar fasciitis, neuromas, flat feet, high arches & osteoarthritis in her knee. Yup! Ever since the Walking Store closed their doors she needed to find a local shoe store where she can try on shoes IN PERSON!!! They have been closed for over 4 years though they are online only. Online sucks for her. She needs to try on shoes in person. She prefers to buy shoes close by to home. Unfortunately Nordstrom's closed their doors at Arden. We could probably go to the Rack. Nawww not the same service. Dan basically gave my wife personal service! She got spoiled here! Dan even brought out shoes from the back not shown out on display in the shoe store. There were a few styles she never heard before and needed to try them on in the store. They even sell Hokas & Aetrex here! She was so HAPPY & totally in SHOE HEAVEN! Woohoo! Thank you Dan for taking care of my wife bc we will absolutely be back! My wife is so happy. She bought 5 pairs of shoes & a pair of Aetrex orthotics! Thanks DAN A!!! It was my wife's first time in this store & it will NOT be her last! She almost went again today! Heehee. Oh btw shoes here are not a dime a piece. You must be ready to spend a fortune. But excellent quality does come at a PRICE. Dan told my wife the busiest day in the store is Monday. Bc people from the industry shop here more so than the weekends. She just so happened to appear the following day...

My research and Yelp reviews led me to Becks. Heather took me thru the entire process and based on scan information and accurate measuring of both feet, she recommended several different types of shoes. I ultimately purchased a pair and have had no further heel pain. Heather was patient, knowledgeable, and answered all my questions. The store was stocked with a nice variety and I do plan to return to purchase more (the shoes were a good price). What I really was thankful for was that there was no pressure to purchase or join anything. I wasn't made to feel like I had to be a hard core runner to buy good shoes. I felt valued and my purchase was appreciated.

Alright alright alright... channeling a little Matthew McConaughey energy because that's exactly…read morethe vibe walking into the Nike Clearance Store. This was just a quick stop before a comedy show with friends, nothing serious... or so I thought. At first glance I'm like ehh, maybe not today. Then I slow it down, start actually looking, and boom--same shoes I've seen online for $150 just sitting there for $40. That's when the mission changed real quick. Next thing you know, I'm stacking boxes like I'm prepping for a season, not a night out. I pass a guy holding six pairs and think "that's wild"... then I catch myself with three like hold up, I'm not much better . That's the kind of place this is--you go in casual and leave doing math you didn't plan on doing. Deals just keep popping up if you take your time and dig a little. Gotta give credit to the crew too. Everyone was polite, easygoing, and helpful without hovering. And the checkout? Moved faster than a NASCAR pit stop, no exaggeration. In and out with bags in hand and still made it to the comedy show on time. Yeah... I'll definitely be back.

I don't think I have ever been without seeing a reseller walking around. Bags filled with shoes. But I think that shows they have good shoes and good prices. Recently picked up some Jordan cleats. They were just released and at Dick's for $165. And we picked them up at The Nike Clearance store for $80. Staff is always nice. So consider checking it out.
