I also tried the regular pork taco, personally I would go with the carnitas style.. not to say it was funky tasting or tough .. however the carnitas has that extra flavor. Fat Burrito is a decent Mexican spot in Chesterton. The food was fine (not bad, not amazing), the service was great, and it was cute inside. I had steak tacos. The serving of meat in each taco was generous, but the steak was a little dry. I put some lime and guac on it and it was pretty good. If you. like to over pay for small portions, this is your place. They used to be way better when they first opened, but like all other places it was a bait and switch. It is no wonder their parking lot is always empty now. The food is decent but you don't get enoug to justify the bill at the end of the meal. TOO SMOKEY!!! eaten at the Fat Burrito in Highland and it was pretty good so thought I'd try another location closer to home. Service was good, food was ok, not as good as the other location. Meat in the burrito was burnt and the guacamole had no flavor. The reason I will NOT be returning is because of the smoke in the restaurant! My husband had the brilliant idea of ordering burritos from here and I gave it a chance! I ordered a steak burrito which is $12 to go. Got home to find out that 75% of the burrito was beans and I don't know what else it definitely wasn't steak! The burritos are very small here They don't give you any sort of hot sauce or anything with your to go order, they charge you for every little thing I'm sorry since when does Mexican food not come with hot sauce? Stopped in for a late dinner while staying in the area. My wife and I both had the Carne Asada Dinner. The food came out pretty quick and was very good. The steak was cooked well and had lots of flavor. Everything was excellent. We had the fried ice cream for dessert and it was massive. The pork fat burrito is Everything we tried was excellent. Salsa, very fresh and with very good flavor. Guacamole was on point! Again fresh with excellent flavor. Wonderful Mexican food! Their Far Burritos are amazing! However, the store next door is a tobacco shop and the smoke comes in heavily! The owner explained that they've changed the ventilation, sealed the walls, but it's overwhelming! Had to wear my N95 mask to breath. Owner kept apologizing. He said customers now get food to go. I've tried one of the chilaquiles entrees, I've had the chimichanga dinner, and a variety of tacos - including the chorizo and the lengua. Everything has been delicious!! The salsa is top notch, the queso is so yummy! The guac is great, but needed a touch of salt, in my opinion. The margaritas are fantastic, too. And when it comes to service... IMPRESSED! The first time I came in, it was as a group of 8. Our server was Jenn and she was awesome. Friendly, gave great input when we asked for her opinions on things. The next time I came back, maybe a month later, I didn't have her as a server, but she remembered me and chatted with me a bit. We've also done take out and the food was hot and ready to go. Stopped in because I love Mexican food and wanted to try. Was seated and had to get up to find a waitress after 10 minutes. Maybe 10 total people in there. 25 minutes later my taco finally came. That was pretty good. Never received any chips/salsa even when I had asked for them. Server never returned to see if anything was needed and had to look for her again to get my check. While I understand this is a new place , went there today around 11:45 to try it out . Had take out and was told 35 min. Waited for it . I was ok with that .Put my order in paid for it and waited in my car . As I waited noticed people coming and going . Some people went in and ate and and then it was time to get my Order . Gal was on the phone taking a huge seven separate orders . She hung up with customer and said to someone they wanted to pay , all separate. I told them we were slammed with orders. And laughed . First of all I counted 4 separate tables with people. The restaurant wasnt even full. So finally waited on me , got my lunch and went to the park down the road . Beautiful day to be outside.Open it up, and it was huge ! A burrito of course.first bite and I was disappointed. It was cold . Something I wasn't expecting. Who wants it cold ? Secondly, the people I saw come in and eat was done eating before I even got my food . How is that right ? I order before they were even there. What happened to first come first served ??? It Shouldn't matter whether you walk in to eat or you take out whoever comes first gets to eat first that's how it supposed to be I think you guys can do better. read more

I tried this place out for the first time and it was SO good. I tried the gorditas with pork and my husband got the fat burrito with steak. The meats were incredibly flavorful and the other ingredients were so fresh and tasty. The prices are so affordable, especially for Chesterton. Highly recommend! read more

Tried this place out last week. I ordered the fat burrito with a side of chips and dip. The burrito was massive (the size of a football) which was good because I was starving. The first 1/3 tasted great but the more I ate the more I started to taste a lot of seasoning in the meat which was throwing me off. If I had to rate the flavor of the burrito alone I'd give it a 6.5/10... but all in (size, flavor, value) probably a 7.5. Seems like a fun place so I plan to give it another try. read more

We went there 3 different times, the food was good but the service not so much. We went there during their opening week, food took a little long to get there but we told ourselves, they are just working out the timing. Went back a second time, not as busy, food still took at least 30 minutes to get to us but again, we thought, just trying to get the "bugs" work out. Try it for our 3rd and FINAL time, went in the afternoon, took at least 15 mins for our server to come to our table, and bring water. Waited another 10 mins for our server to come back but this time is was the owner. I am allergic to beans and nicely ask, may I substitute the beans for rice. She rudely answered NO!! I will have to charge you. What? Beans cost more than rice and all of the Mexican restaurants that I have ever been too and always done this. It is her choice however, being RUDE is unacceptable.....sorry, I will never go there again!! read more
