Absolutely delightful! We got the duck breast, half fried chicken, Mac & cheese and biscuits and everything was great! Highly recommend a stop here. Will definitely be back for our next special occasion.

The waitress was very attentive and polite. The food was absolutely delicious! I had Shrimp & grits and I can actually say they were the best shrimp & grits I have had in the North. My husband had BBQ spare ribs that he said were very good. He added French fries and they came with 2 different sauces. The ambiance was a nice industrial look. Tables were set with old china, a very nice cloth napkin and a candle. The only negative was the sunlight coming through the drawn shade. The light was almost blinding. We will definitely be back. Yummy!

This was a solid dinner in Chesterton. We skipped the cocktails, and ordered biscuits for the appetizer. I didn't realize it only came with two, but there were two of us, so it worked! The biscuits were so fluffy! I like a saltier biscuit but there was flaky salt on the side so I could adjust to my taste. The decor is cute without being too much. We didn't find the chairs all that comfortable but it was manageable. I ordered the peach salad. Peppery arugula, sweet peaches, hot honey adding some spice, and of course burrata. It was really good! For my entree I went with the fried chicken. It doesn't come with sides but since I had a salad and a biscuit that was not a problem. The fried chicken was well done but needed more seasoning in my opinion. My husband had the brisket meatloaf that came with potatoes and asparagus and he really enjoyed it. Root and Bone is a good addition to the Chesterton dining scene.

Great food, Jen delivered excellent over the top service and made it a welcoming experience for our first visit. The ambiance was amazing although just a bit loud but it didn't take away from my review. We had the deviled eggs for an app... I had the famous fried chicken and my husband had the grits and shrimp, The half chicken portion was HUGE. I still took some home. The grits were very tasty, and so were the drinks! We want to go back again and again and share items so we can try it all!

A lovely restaurant with great decor. My rating is more related to the price point for the volume and quality of food being served here. We had a good variety of things starting with crab cake hush puppies that were limited in flavor and were paired with a green goddess sauce that didn't add anything to the dish, at $14 (which is typical for an appetizer) it came with 3 which was surprising because they were pretty small. For entrees we tried the roasted butternut squash and what they call the crowd favorite their famous fried chicken. At $21 the roasted butternut squash was just okay and something I felt like I could make at home, it was their only vegan dish and I wished there was a bit more of a wow factor or at least had a pairing that complimented it as it came with none so we just got fries for the table. The fried chicken wasn't bad, but if you're titling it as "famous" it would've been better to have more seasoning throughout but the quality of the fry was awesome. The staff were welcoming and the restaurant itself was beautiful. The drinks were good and we got 2 rounds! Overall it was a great experience but when it comes to value I thought the price point was too high for what was received and left not feeling super full.

What a gem in this town!!! I had the apricot chicken. The taste was fantastic, seasoned well and the presentation was beautiful. Started with the deviled eggs and they were delightful. Great taste. The waitress was so kind and gave awesome suggestions. Finally, just a wonderful place to be. Quaint ambiance. A place for all to come even if you were driving through

Decided to take the trek out to Chesterton to try out this new eatery, about an hour drive from St. John. The restaurant is part of a little strip center with other small restaurants and stores. We made reservations and were seated within a few minutes. The restaurant appeared to be full with only two other people waiting to be seated. The decor was somewhat minimal, but I would call it farmhouse chic? There were old plates hung on the wall and wooden doors hanging from the ceiling. Not sure if there's a backstory. Didn't really understand the whole thing. Service was fine. Waitress was friendly and attentive. Ordered all apps so we could try out a lot of different things. We tried fried chicken and biscuits, BLT, crabcakes, mac & cheese and Brussel sprouts. Chicken & biscuits was my favorite. They add some type of jam or glaze to it and there's a good balance of sweet and savory. Next fave was the Brussel sprouts. Not sure what all is in it but it if you closed your eyes it tastes like a warm McDonald's apple pie from back in the day. If you know, you know. Didn't care for the other apps. Mac & cheese had no flavor. The BLT was just a fried green tomato with pork belly on top. The tomato needed to be cooked longer. Too crisp. The crab cakes were a bit too fishy for me although wife like them. I'm not a big seafoodie so you can probably disregard my opinion on this. The coleslaw that came with it didn't taste right. No me gusta. All in all, I would have rather saved the trip and had Culver's or something. But seriously, it's not bad. A little pricey. We just had apps and one drink and it came out to over $100. Would probably come back if we were in the area. They had some other dishes that seemed intriguing. Give them a try and see what you think!

Root & Bone is truly an elite dine in experience! The food was absolutely fantastic, the service was top notch, the ambiance was peaceful and comfortable. I would recommend to everyone who finds themselves in the Chesterton Indiana area!

We came in for opening weekend and had a good experience. The decor in this restaurant is so nice and fitting for the menu. We started with crab cakes and biscuits. The crab cakes were really crab heavy, which is the way that they should be! They were awesome with the remoulade. The biscuits were good, but I would prefer both sweet and savory condiment options, they only have a savory option. I had the half chicken and hot honey sauce, which was definitely the star of the show. The hot honey sauce is incredible! We had fries, mac and cheese, corn soufflé, and grits. We preferred the fries that come with a great (ranch?) sauce on the side. Another standout was the banana pudding crème brûlée. I never order dessert, but this is worth it! The service was a bit slow and clunky, but I would chalk that up to only being open for a few days. If you're nearby, I would give it a shot!

I really like the ambiance of this place. Nice fixtures and color scheme make the place very open. Old doors on the ceiling are a unique touch. We each got a drink, the garnish on the bloody mary was decadent without being an entire meal. I was disappointed in the chicken & biscuits appetizer the biscuits were small and over cooked and the chicken was dry. The deviled eggs were really great, although I wish there were more than 3 on the plate. The eggs benedict was good. Service was excellent! Would go again maybe try something else.

The space is cozy and fun with travel- themed decor, and the food is fresh, delicious, and perfect comfort staples at a reasonable price. Highly recommend the skillets - the Spicy Chorizo was excellent and I also super enjoyed the Porky Pig Skillet with extra vegetables. Can say I never had sausage gravy on a skillet before and it was perfectly balanced. It's a fan-favorite for a reason! Also, the biscuits are light and fluffy and delicious. Will definitely come again if in the area - bonus is the cute little downtown and park to walk a bit afterwards if you eat too much.

It's a fixture in Downtown Chesterton, such as it is. Often busy with locals. It's diner food at a good price. Not huge but adequate portions, but most customers really do not need to eat huge portions anyway. (There is an obesity epidemic in this country!). Service is usually good. Parking in back and on the street. Air conditioned. Coffee is standard diner coffee that one finds in thousands of similar joints and most restaurants (robusta beans- the cheap stuff), which lacks flavor although it is hot. If you doctor your coffee, makes no difference since you can't taste the coffee anyway. I opt for orange juice or ice tea usually. Has a bench out front if you want to sit for a spell. It's been awhile since I checked out the restroom (there is a comment on that), so I do want to survey as that is what the cooks and wait staff use- and it's important that the facilities be spotless with soap, towels, etc., to avoid disease vectors migrating into the food from the cook or servers' hands. They do not have "bussers", so your waitress will be handling your food and the last customers' dirty dishes, which is a common restaurant money-saving practice that I do not think should be allowed anywhere. We've got immigrants who need work, so let's get them a job instead of chasing them with masked men.
