My husband and I were staying in New Glarus and stopped at Fat Cat Coffee Works for coffee and a light breakfast. I had a cappuccino and the veggie egg sandwich and my husband had a Cortado. The coffee was great and the sandwich was delicious, I loved the grilled naan bread! I ordered a lemon coconut cupcake to-go and ate that when I got home, it was amazing! It tasted good and I liked the texture. Also, the coffee shop is a lot bigger than I expected it to be! There was a lot of seating, including counter seating, where you can see them making the food. Stopped here en route to the New Glarus Brewery and had a threat experience. We enjoyed the caprese quiche, a blueberry muffin, a cold press coffee, and sausage roll --all of which were delicious. The shop itself is absolutely adorable, and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. I've seen some comments about the prices, but I think they're quite fair considering the rise in food costs. This review is long overdue. But this is the BEST coffee shop in Wisconsin, and possibly the country. Every coffee shop I go to, I get a caramel iced coffee. No extras added. So I am constantly comparing whenever I try a new coffee shop out. No latte has ever compared to Fat Cat's. The latte at Fat Cat just has this depth of flavor that's intoxicating. I literally dream about this coffee. Okay, next. Their cinnamon rolls are out of this world. They are flakey and ooey gooey but still hold their shape. The cream cheese frosting I could take a bath in. It's what dreams are made of. But not only do they make fantastic rolls, all of their treats are delicious. My other favorites include their brownies, ginger cookies and banana bread. They also serve a wide variety of other food like quiche, burritos, pancakes, lunch items, and so much more. Okay next, let's talk about the vibes at Fat Cat. It is the cutest, quaintest coffee shop with a ton of seating. It's a coffee shop you'd see in a Hallmark movie. Lastly, none of this would be possible without the exceptional owners and staff. They are always so welcoming. They all work so hard to make sure things run smoothly. It's a nice place. But service is not well thought out. Walk into the center of the place, wait in line to order, stand in that same small area for them to bring your drink to a different counter. If there's more than about 6 people it's terrible. I left. Though since there was. Pathing else open at the time, I did come back. As the only person ordering it was fine. Maybe a separate window for takeout only would help? Also maybe a sign explaining the process? I had to stop a server to have her explain it before I decided I wasn't interested in waiting through the dozen more than a dozen people waiting to get something. read more

This coffee house rocks! It's located in what I assume was the old railroad station right on the bike path (former railroad tracks). They serve Ancora coffee, and the baristas know how to make whatever coffee concoction you desire. We had 2 iced mochas, and they were fabulous! We also shared a fresh muffin, a yogurt parfait, and an oatmeal. What a lovely breakfast. Was I tempted by all the cookies, pies, and cupcakes....YES. Just yes. This coffee shop would be an excellent stop for an afternoon pick-me-up. May have to follow my own advice and come back soon! read more

A great place to grab a coffee, pastry or breakfast sandwich. We had the sausage, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich on naan which was very good. Also grabbed fresh cranberry and orange scone and a ham and cheese foldover with herbs that was so yummy! A step above. Quite honestly, I never leave reviews because I never feel strongly enough to. However, this place just keeps letting me down. $15 for an eggs Benedict and my hollandaise was curdled, my eggs were rubbery and over cooked and while the flavors were nice it was lacking. The coffee is good, maybe not worth the cost, but it's good. The service is fine. You'd think they would pay their employees more, considering how overpriced the whole menu is, but alas, they do not. This morning walking past Fat Cat Coffee Works I thought coffee sounded nice, and suggested to my friend that we go grab a coffee after our walk, but things certainly didn't work out that way -- as soon as we started our walk we found a stray kitten which clearly needed rescuing. My friend went into the shop and ask them if they would be willing to give her a little something to rescue a stray kitten. This is a no-brainer, a scrap of meat or cheese or even a friggin corner of a croissant from a trash can would be better than what they gave her, which was a big old NO. Rather than take ten seconds to do something easily right and good, they turned their backs. I find that rather ironic considering the name of the business then realized it's actually quite fitting. So we asked the business next-door - they weren't even open yet but they obliged us by giving us a little something to entice the kitten with. I really, REALLY like this place. The atmosphere is top-notch, the food is made from scratch, and it's damn good too. Nestled within a totally revamped train depot, it feels like that down-home place we all dream about as adults (you know, that kinda place where they know your face and have your coffee ready before you need to ask? yeah, that kinda place). I had the special--a spinach/mushroom scramble that tasted like something my dad would make on the weekends we were on vacation--the kind that tastes delicious because someone took time on it, added just the right amount of seasoning and then just a pinch of love, besides. I also enjoyed a cup of marshmallow (yeah, I know--no judging lol) cappuccino. It was also delicious. This place is charming AF, and the staff seem pretty amazing. While in town for a wedding, I had the pleasure of stopping by this cafe not once, but twice. I couldn't resist making a second stop here after my great first experience! On my first visit, I stopped in on an afternoon coffee and sweet tooth run, and ordered a small chai latte and a blueberry-lavender white chocolate scone. I sat inside close to the register, and enjoyed my fare before heading out for some shopping. The decor is simple and well done, and everything was very clean and organized. Chai Latte - Perfection. Lightly sweet and perfectly spiced, this drink was a winner. +A Blueberry-Lavender White Chocolate Scone - This was an impulse buy, because it just looked THAT good. And let me tell you, it was worth every penny. It was light and soft, with the perfect balance of sweet from the chocolate, tart from the blueberry, and earthy from the lavender. They even warmed it up for me, which was the icing on the cake. GREAT. On our second visit, our whole group of 9 stopped in for breakfast on Sunday before leaving town. We were able to find enough room for our little group on the upper level of the cafe, and we all ordered a variety of breakfast foods, from crab and artichoke quiche to burritos, to avocado toast. A friend of mine made the suggestion to come here, and I am glad she did. The place is small but nice. Ideally located between the trail and Blumenladen. Parking is atrocious in New Glarus; more people in town, more circling every block trying to find a parking space. But I got lucky this time. I ordered the Caprese Quiche special and a cherry Italian soda. It was worth the $12 I spent. The Quiche was small but it came with a small piece of sourdough bread, warmed, and a small arugula salad, and a slice of orange. A nicely, thought-out presentation. The quiche was a bit too soft for my liking but the taste was appealing. Cherry soda was satisfying. The two points of criticism I have is that the distance from front door to order spot was way too short (the cafe does have a long, narrow shape). Also, where my friend and I sat was too noisy. Made it difficult to think or talk. Someone needs to rethink entrance/order point, and to make sure customers are not sitting next to constant slamming and repetitive, loud noises from the kitchen area. I'm definitely recommending this place. Will return when there is less foot/car traffic in town, and locate seating away from the kitchen noises. Keep up the good work Fat Cat! read more

The food is fantastic. A regularly changing menu of in house specials. I had the crab and artichoke quiche and a lot of bacon. Atmisphere is pleasant. They have a no phone call rule and a found wood counter over-looking the kitchen -like a fancy hipster Wafflehouse. If I weren't doing low carb, I would have gotten any of the hashes or skillets. They had a delicious looking Cajun skillet and also Hashbrowns and bacon casserole. A lot of bakeey options and fist-sized cupcakes. And when you ordet a cupcake they donate to local charities! The coffee is very smooth and the staff is Super friendly. They didn't seem to judge be low carb choice of lots of bacon.They were playing Lemonheads when I came in, and later I was listening and I was surprised to hear an obscure English band. My inner hipster squeed. Ate lunch on Saturday, and skipped complimentary breakfast to visit again. A bit pricey, but worth every penny. read more

Strong coffee shop with a great location. This was our second visit here and I remember liking it the first time around, too. Had my usual - - skinny vanilla latte -- which was excellent. I ordered a medium which was a large in my book. Could not finish it! I thought it as good as anything I have had in Madison or any other city serving Ancora coffee. For less than $5, I consider it a great value. Family had a strawberry smoothie and a mint limeade - - excellent reports all around. We did not have any food but it all looked good. Fresh pies, sandwiches...we even saw a good looking omelette being served during our mid afternoon visit. They also serve beer and wine. The shop is right across from Blumengarden and has ample parking. For those unfamiliar, Blumengarden is a popular flower/nursery shop right on the main drag. So Fat Cat is a great pre-, during and post flower shop respite. Definitely worth bookmarking and stopping in while in the area. See you there! read more

A must if you're in New Glarus. While traveling to the Crossfit games, made a stop to visit the brewery and of course grab some spotted cow. I was delighted by not only the quaint small town, but the incredible bites I got while visiting. Fat cat has a wide variety of breakfast and lunch items including but not limited to craft coffees, high end teas, CBD lemonades and even some beer and wines for an indulge. The sandwiches and pastries were all 10/10 on aesthetic and rate even higher on flavors! Kind staff and friendly locals made this place a true must go. I still love this place, but I think it's best for pastries and treats. We ordered sandwiches this time around for lunch. And while they were yummy, they were so very greasy! I mean (TMI alert) they slid right through with barely a warning! Plus for a $9 sandwich, I would expect chips or salad or some other small side to come with it. For two coffees and two sandwiches (plus tip), we paid $30. I still haven't found my "perfect" coffee drink there yet, but I won't give up! They have a whole seating area to the side, and upstairs as well which I wasn't aware of. Our ordering process was messy and confusing since there were like 4 people behind the counter doing things.
