The ice cream here is tasty with the right amount of creaminess and they have unique flavors such as the bananas foster, blueberry stratticia, and almond cloud. And with the name Fat Cat, you'll notice a lot of cat references in the names of the flavors and concoctions. We tend to get scoops in the waffle bowl since those always hit. Love the new location! They moved from shepherd to 34 street and I think that was a really good thing. They have a cutie community outdoor seating area shared with the businesses in the plaza. MF'n WOW!!!! I had heard of this spot and found myself nearby one day and had to stop by for a taste. They have a number of unique flavors on the menu and are super accommodating to let you try as many flavors as you'd like. I didn't realize it at first but I had stumbled upon the Stomping Grounds before and when I looked into here they had such a long line that I didn't even wanna find out if the food was worth the hype. Now that I've gone there on purpose I am fully aware of what the hype was about. The very first flavor I tried was one of their seasonal flavors, Peanut Butter and Strawberry Jam, and hot damn it was good. I'll let you know in advance that this is one of those situations where I tried multiple other flavors only to go back to the first amazing flavor. The other flavors I tried were, Milk & Cookies, Milk Tea & Strawberry Cake, Strawberries & Cream, Cat's Meow Mexican Vanilla and Graham Central Station. All of them were pretty good with Graham Central Station being my favorite of the bunch. I like a cone with my ice cream, but they can be messy, so I like that they have waffle cone bowls. I got 2 scoops in a waffle cone bowl. I knew I was getting the PB & Strawberry Jam but when I was asked if I wanted the same flavor I went with Graham Central Station for the second scoop. Now it was really good but I must say that as I drove away I immediately felt like I should've just gotten 2 scoops of PB & SJ. It's not that GCS wasn't good, it's just that the flavors got muddled and I wanted more PB & SJ. It's also super cute that the ice cream scoops look like bird eggs in a nest with the waffle cone bowl. The place is pretty chill and has an artistic vibe that I enjoy and plays into the cat theme with some signage and decor. My next visit I had to make sure the PB & SJ was still on the menu and once I called and confirmed it was, I KNEW EXACTLY what I'd be getting upon my next visit. Still tried a few flavors though lol. I tried the Kitty Snax, Mango Sorbet and Coconut Ube. The Mango Sorbet was really good but the Coconut Ube is the one that shocked me. It had a very unctuous flavor. It surprised me how good it was especially when I reread and realized it had coconut, which I generally don't care for. Again another great service visit and great experience. Fat Cat Creamery is a woman-owned, Houston-based ice cream company that started in 2011 after the founders couldn't find good craft ice cream in the city. They make small-batch ice cream completely from scratch using Texas whole milk, heavy cream, egg yolks, and locally sourced ingredients, and they also emphasize environmentally friendly, compostable packaging. The ice cream itself is clearly high quality, with unique and well-executed flavors. That said, I am very particular about ice cream texture and prefer a harder, more frozen style that you can really bite into. Fat Cat's ice cream is very soft and melty, which just isn't my personal preference. I was so sad when the location on 19th closed in my neighborhood, but the Stomping Grounds location is a great place to spend an afternoon hanging out, eating good food, and then getting ice cream before leaving. They have the same great flavors. Of the usuals, I like the amaya coffee and cream, and the chai tea coconut - you can't even tell it's dairy free. By far one of the most disappointing customer service experiences I've had -- especially for the price. The portion I received was clearly smaller than what another customer was given right in front of me. When I politely asked about the difference, I was met with a cold, dismissive attitude instead of any attempt to address the concern. For a business charging these prices, basic fairness and professionalism should be the bare minimum. Instead, the interaction felt careless and unwelcoming. It left a very bad impression and completely took away from what should have been a simple, enjoyable purchase. Between the inconsistent portions and the poor response from staff, I left feeling frustrated and undervalued as a customer. Fyi they did move locations! So this is the newest location. Which the other location for some reason I liked more it was more small and intimate. This location is bigger and there is an outside patio area which is very pretty cozy! There are other local businesses connected. Service was well and welcomed in! We were able to try different flavors! The only thing that was off was a big bee flew into the ice cream and the worker preceded to fix our ice cream and cleaned the bee out once we walked away. There weren't any gloves used for fixing ice cream. The ice cream flavors are pretty good and also the cones. The parking lot is shared with other businesses but there is plenty of parking. Got a cone which was HUGE and with hot fudge and we also got a create your own with sprinkles, kitten chips and fudge. I will say kitten chips were the best And a must get. The area had beach chairs to relax at night and had multiple restaurants with other places to try. Kids were playing outside too so a fun spot. I am organizing an informal group event and the owner is such a pleasure to deal with (not to mention super generous and accommodating). There is always a line when we go to get some yummy sweet treats, but it goes quickly. Patrons are limited to 2 samples each, which is usually more than enough for me. There are also adult floats that look yummy and pre-packaged to-go treats for convenience. My son loves it here and the exotic flavors allow him to expand his palette some. Glad to have them in our hood! PRO PARENT TIP: Bring a ball or other outdoor toy for your kids to enjoy in the large green space right outside the shop. I barely made it right before closing, but they were still happy to serve my small group. I ended up ordering one of their ice cream cocktails. It was delicious, complex and also a bit pricy for what you get. I was expecting a larger cocktail than just a shot. Otherwise, their ice cream flavors are delicious, unique and abundant. So when I saw anything cat related on my way to grab some pho I had to stop what I was doing and see what it was. I chose Fat Cat despite my crowd wanting Cold Stone- because we can get Cold Stone anytime and we've never had Fat Cat. Walking in, the smell of the waffle cones was intoxicating, so much so my "ice cream strictly in a cup" husband opted for a waffle cone. The waffle cone unfortunately was somehow disappointing and lacking flavor. I sampled two flavors and was disappointed with both but committed to Salted Nutella which got too salty quickly. Thankfully my sweet husband traded me for his, which also wasn't the best. Great flavor ideas that just missed the mark, for me.
