When it's good, it's good. But when it's not, well... I live literally down the road from this place. We used to go frequently, but cut back due to the inconsistency. Sometimes when you go, the food is great, service is great, atmosphere is great. Other times, the food is cold and the service is subpar. I used to really enjoy their chicken wings. They were always crispy and didn't hold back on the dressing. But sometimes they're slimy on the inside, the skin isn't crisp at all, and you have to ask for extra sauce. I tried Fat Jacks today while in Walterboro, SC. The hostess and waitstaff were very good. For appetizers we had southwest roll which was tasty with a nice dip. We also had catfish bite which come with cocktail and tarter sauce. The portions we quite large. I ordered crab cakes which were cold when I took my first bite. My dudes were okra and potato salad which I enjoyed. My partner had grilled chicken Caesar Salad which she enjoyed. Again large portions and more went home than was eaten in the restaurant. As a former chef and college foodservice professor I must say from a taste perspective all was good. But the cold crab cakes put a damper on things. I packed up the leftovers and decided I would reheat everything in my home kitchen at a later time. At the end the waitress asked if we would like a beverage to go which we declined. Long day on I-75 & 95; so glad to finally get a good restaurant that serves more than BBQ. The cat fish (blackened not fried) was excellent. The fried Okra just right n the Holy City Porter were 5s. During our road trip we decided to stop at Fat Jacks to get some seafood. When we pulled up it looked like a pretty nice place and had nice patio. The salad was really nice as far as a side salad would go. But the pasta was just OK. Definitely not the greatest quality. This was more like fast food pasta that we had ordered and did not seem to be made from quality ingredients. It was not very busy that day since we were there in the middle of the afternoon. When we were served our salads our meals were served within 30 seconds. We ordered the pasta with shrimp and scallops. Ok place if you're really hungry since portions were large. Stopped in on our return trip to VA, and was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was really clean, the soap in the women's bathroom smelled WONDERFUL (it was like a watermelon fruit aroma) and the service was great! I ordered a 5 piece wing appetizer, sweet tea and Salmon entree, my husband got the seafood pasta. Wings- the're are the breaded kind, and I like my kinda crispy (and these were not) but they had a good coat of sauce and nice flavor. Our meals came with salads and opted for the houses salad. I was surprised at how fresh the salad ingredients were, definitely not the bagged kind so that made for an excellent dish!! My salmon entree- another great surprise here! It was well seasoned and perfectly cooked! It was nice and flakey and I definitely order it again. The downside- my baked potatoes was terrible. I had to send the first one back because it was cold the second one although a little warmer, it was definitely past it's prime. Not going to hold that too much against them since it was nearing closing and baked potatoes are hard to keep fresh after a long day. As far as my husbands seafood pasta goes, he lived it! This was kind of an impromptu stop for my wife and I; we were running some errands and thought we'd stop in. It was 4:30, so well before the rush (they are usually packed at peak hours). This restaurant is still relatively new. It's very clean inside and out. Our waitress seemed nervous and had to go and ask the answer to questions we had. She told us it was only her second day, so I understood and didn't mind. After that her trainer started coming over with her. The food was mostly good. I had the Black and Blue Burger with sweet potato waffle fries. The burger was wonderful; big, juicy, flavorful, and did I mention BIG. I may not need to eat again for a week after that burger! The sweet potato fries were disappointing, they were greasy and I had to use a lot of salt to give it some flavor. My wife had the Wings, which she offered me to try, but after my burger I couldn't eat another bite. She really enjoyed them and said I should get them next time. When the woman next to us stood up to leave I overheard her say "Man, that steak was tender". So that's a good sign. I would recommend the place if you're in Walterboro or traveling on I-95 (exit 57). read more

Was staying in the area for the night and decided to try this place out after looking what they had to offer. Seemed like a place a lot of locals were at. Very friendly staff, never had to ask for drinks to be refilled and after our party ordered, all the dips/condiments were brought before our meal and without asking. Portions were great! Pasta dish was enough for 3 people! Scallops were delicious, as was the steak and smashed potatoes. My husband and I just ate lunch there and he got the loaded fries and a Caesar salad. I got one of their lunch specials, fried whiting, side of fried okra and a sweet potato. My food was very good but my husband's fries on the other hand were not. They were not seasoned at all and the bacon wasn't cooked well. He couldn't even eat them, but he said the salad was good. I've been to the previous location several times before the move - and I could never eat all of my food ( it was always too much!!) This is a great restaurant! This was our first visit, but probably not our last. We both had the pork ribeyes & they were great! I had the incredible mashed potatoes with green beans & my wife had the baked sweet potato with green beans as well. The Caesar salad as well as the tossed salad were also out of this world!
