Cheesesteaks were really dry. Fries weren't crispy and ate like cardboard. Really nothing all that great about this place.

We arrived around 3:45 PM without reservations and they immediately took us to an open table. Iced Waters were instant. Our server was very pleasant and she took our order. Bread quickly followed with two types served: Italian with sesame seeds and focaccia; however I was puzzled that it was served with a plate of hot peppers and onions in a juice. It seemed off but perhaps it's a Jersey thing. I've been all over in Italy and have never seen this. Olive oil would have been fine along with a splash of balsamic vinegar. Either way I skipped bread condiments. Next came the Fried Tomatoes topped with Lump Crab as an appetizer, but once again I had another head-scratcher, as this dish wasn't typical. First the entire dish lacked seasoning plus salt. Then red tomatoes were used and we all know what happens when you try to fry one. It turns to water after you cut it. The lump crab is what probably made this dish pricey but 3 thinly slices of a red tomato caught me off guard. Now for the final knock out: I ordered the Bone In Pork Chop and impressed that I was asked how Iiked it prepared? I said 145 degrees. She said, you mean well- done. I stated no, that would be in a range of medium. Lo and behold, it was fantastically preparation temperature, but it came topped with the same peppers and onions concoction that came out with the bread. I had no idea that this was a smothered situation. My broccolini was also a mystery. The mashed potatoes were mid. Now on to my daughter's chicken Parmesan: She said that it lacked flavor and had to add salt and pepper and also stated that the sauce was loose and there was too little of it. My wife enjoyed her Salmon. Jersey is cooking differently!!!!! I forgot to add: Underneath of my pork chop I discovered a mysterious piece of corn. I had no corn in my dish??????

We enjoyed a pre-dinner drink at the bar, and we were so impressed by how friendly the bartenders were. They were engaging and social. They set off our evening on a high note! My Pink Jaguar cocktail was beautiful and caused quite a buzz among the bar patrons! We opted to sit outside, and we are glad we did. The space is open and breezy but fully covered. No need to worry if a passing shower makes its way overhead. Steamed clams in white wine and Truffle fries for the table to start. Yum! All entrees are accompanied by a house salad or Ceasar salad. Our group ordered the Limone Chicken, Chicken Sfiziosa, Steak Frite, and the Eggplant Meatballs/Risotto. Everything came out piping hot and delicious. We loved everything. I know their linguine is house made, but not certain of the other pasta varietals. Cheesecake and Cannoli for dessert, because why not? Really nice experience! Our server was sweet and super-efficient. My only question for Filomena's Lakeview is "Where is the lake?" :)

The decor is cheesy Italian faux live walls and Italian music. We stayed with the fried mozzarella and the fried calamari with long hots (that weren't long hots) which was the recommendation of the waiter Lucas. The were good but extremely greasy. They were served on a paper doily that was fully saturated in grease. The flavor was good but the greasiness was off putting. We had two entrees the standard chicken Parmesan and a special which was clams and spaghetti with Calabrian chilis. The clams and spaghetti wasn't terrible but definitely not spicy as we had hoped. The chicken parm was non memorable pasta was cold and under sauced. We also had the broccoli rabe which was good . We wanted to try the tiramisu but they were out of the dessert. The service was ok - I say that because the guys were awkward like didn't know how to interact. Was on the slower side. Greasy food and cold pasta . Meh not my go to! 110.00 for two all in with tip. W O W We drove up to a humble building and entered into a welcoming and a very nicely decorated restaurant. I loved all the red "pops" for Valentine's Day! Giovanni seated us and Chris was our server. Both were warm and friendly. We really enjoyed our conversation with Chris and he gave us a few special treats as "first timers." I flipped for the focaccia bread! It reminded me of Lamberti's on Haddonfield-Berlin Road back in the day. This was even better though - I "kinda" had five pieces lol! We started with salads that were super good! I barely like tomatoes but these grape ones were so tasty! Now onto the star ... LOBSTER RAVIOLI in a brandy sauce! This dish was AH-MAZING and one of the night's specials - from the tender pasta and scrumptious lobster, to the incredible sauce and two succulent large shrimp. The chef added some sun dried tomatoes in, per my request - absolutely delicious!!! My Sir was grinning at me! I couldn't stop ooh'ing and ahh'ing at the "symphony " of flavors in my mouth! He had Veal Parmigiana with a side of Vodka Rigatoni, that he loved (it's his go-to dish that he bases restaurants on). I cleaned my plate, and took the remaining brandy sauce home - this gold wasn't going to waste! Chris hooked us up with two bread more bread baskets because he noticed how we were inhaling it- we took the remainder home too! A treat was meeting Peppe and his wife (?) on the way out. What lovely and gracious people! You can tell that they genuinely love what they do, which is why their food is so damned good! We already talked about going back - my eye is on the Calzone!

I do not eat seafood and was confused by the fishy smell and presence of meat. Luckily it was a simple cross-table mixup. Furthermore, the mushroom gnocchi was horrible. It was made with pure whipping cream, which is probably a valid Italian approach, but it had to have been 100g of fat, and it tasted like warm thick milk, with no flavor and minimal mushrooms. I felt sick to my stomach the rest of the night. The restaurant was packed and tastefully decorated. They have a great signature cocktail list but I couldn't hear myself or anyone at my table. Average decibel level was 85 through the course of our 90 minute stay. My ears felt raw once I got outside. Lastly, it's a mandatory (and complimentary) valet for parking. Just be prepared. We had reservations at 6:45pm on a Saturday night. We arrived a few minutes prior to our reservation and were seated in the corner of a little off-shoot room with only a handful of other tables. It did not feel like we were out to eat at an upscale restaurant. It took a long time for our server to greet us and we placed our drink order. Wine and cocktails. Our server came back a long while after and informed us the bar was backed up and she was still waiting on our drinks. After another very long wait, our drinks were delivered to our table. Everyone enjoyed their wine and my Manhattan was very good. Slow service was a very common theme all night long. It seemed like 30+ minutes between table visits from our server. Between four of us, we ordered two Caesar Salads to split. We also had a Shrimp & Clam Fra Diavolo, Gnocchi, and a Homemade Tagliatelle dinner special with clams, shrimp, and crab served with white wine sauce and arugula pesto. Again it took a very long time for our salads to come out and ages for our entrees. By the time our food was brought to our table I think we were all ready to leave. I think it's safe to say everyone enjoyed their meal but I cannot justify paying the prices Il Villaggio charges with the service provided. I also thought the portions were extremely small which again, I wouldn't have minded if the service was adequate. We did voice our concerns, which I dislike doing, but that's how bad it was. Our server apologized and advised us that they weren't expecting the restaurant to be as busy as it was. Not sure if that was an excuse or if they were actually short-staffed. They did offer complimentary Limoncello and desserts for the table. The Limoncello was probably my favorite part of the night. My wife and I split cannolis and there was also a Key Lime Pie ordered. The dessert tasted good, but after spending 3+ hours in the restaurant, we wouldn't have ordered dessert if it wasn't offered. To say I was underwhelmed would be an understatement. I don't think I've ever waited so long for food and drinks at a restaurant in my life. The only way I'd consider coming back is if our plans were to have cocktails and appetizers at the bar. This was difficult for me to write. I don't enjoy leaving poor reviews. This was not worth our time or money.

The location is easily accessible with plenty of parking (although not always right near the entrance unless you opt for valet service). And the food is pretty good too, seasoned just right, served at the right temperature. I would say this place leans more on the fancier side of Italian restaurants in the area with prices that aren't outrageous but are a tad higher than your typical Italian chains. But this isn't your typical chain. This is a welcoming, one-of-a-kind establishment with quality cooks and equally friendly servers. However, the one thing that really shines is the decor. Both indoors and outdoors. Especially on the back patio (my favorite spot). But be warned, there were mosquitoes that bit my date twice while we were out there on a warm summer evening in August. **PRO TIP: Pay with cash to avoid the mandatory 3% credit card fees added to your bill at the end.
