So went to dinner here on Monday night, yes a slow night for most restaurants, so myself and my friend took that into consideration. I will start off with the service as that was my main contention with the establishment. We were seated promptly and the waiter was welcoming. However, after delivering our menus the waiter started talking to the chef (the kitchen is open to the seating area) and proceeded to discuss something on the waiter's phone. Finally I motioned for him to come over to take our order. He did. I ordered a Rob Roy, a pretty standard classic cocktail. The restaurant had a sizable bar so I thought they could handle this. The waiter had no idea what a Rob Roy was, but I figured their bartender would. It isn't a complex drink. After much conversation between the bartender and waiter the waiter came back and asked me how the drink was made (!) Two seconds of Google would give you the recipe. I decided to order a bourbon and water instead. Given the conversation the waiter had with the cook he obviously knew how to use his phone too! The food was great, but the service was disappointing, surprising too as I have been here before and the service has usually been great. FYI for the bartender, get a cocktail book. 5 for food, 3 for service, 2 for bartender (which is generous IMO), averages out to approximately a 3. read more

Saturday, October 3 was a fun Saturday to get a juicy burger and some beers. It was crazy because me and my friend couldn't find any open restaurants around that time. We went to 3 different spots, which were all closed. But we found Maddie's through YELP Back when we went, there was in door dining. Our waiter was nice, and gave us suggestions. I went w their Jalapeño burger and IPA beer. Medium rare is my taste Wait was not long, and we were served quickly. After 15 min of chatting and eating, we were delighted by our experience. OK, I'm going to try to help this restaurant out. For some reason, mgmt here has a strong aversion to menus (and Yelp) so I'm going to post their latest menus here for Yelpers. Oddly, they don't have any menus on their web site, the ones on Yelp are old, they have no online ordering system or app, they also have no take out menus, and when you call the staff does not really know what's on menu - and they just changed it a few months ago. So customers ordering take-out are flying blind. When I asked the mgr why they had no menus available for take out customers or even online to review before ordering she looked at me like I was a crazy person. And the restaurant was nearly empty! I think the mgmt team needs to go back and take the Intro to Running a Restaurant class 101. Anyway, here the menus. After a few hours visiting the Blackhawk Museum, we were looking for someplace to have lunch in the Plaza because we might want to go back to the museum as we had only visited the Old Wast and China exhibits. There were many other sections of the museum that we had not yet seen. Someone suggested the Blackhawk Grill right in the Plaza. We were seated immediately, given menus and water in glasses. While perusing the menu, I noticed that they had a Grilled Chicken Salad. I wasn't in the mood for grilled chicken but I did notice they had a fried chicken patty sandwich on the menu. I asked if I could sub the protein of the grilled chicken to the fried chicken. I was happy to hear that, yes, that substitution could easily be made without additional charge. So, that's what I ordered. My wife had the Crab Cake Sliders. For drinks, I ordered an Arnold Palmer and she ordered an Iced Tea. It didn't take long for our food to arrive. It all looked good but it did not impress us beyond the presentation. I was disappointed with my "Fried Chicken Sandwich" because I was looking forward to the nice crunchy and tasty chunks of fried chicken and this was nothing like that. When they fried the chicken patty, they did not fry it until the exterior was nice and crispy, Instead it was bit soft/soggy. And that coated layer separated from the flesh of the chicken. The salad greens and the dressing were fine. My wife had the Crab Cake Sliders (2). She said it was just OK. She complained that there was too much filler and not enough real crab. She also was expecting it to be a bit crunchy on the exterior of the crab cake patties - but such luck here, either. The whole luncheon with two glasses of Ice Tea came to $51 that included tax and tip. So from a cost standpoint, the prices were just OK. The one single bright spot was our server. He was excellent! He's young, has a good sense of wit about him and he was very attentive. I'm sorry that I can't recall his name and I can'r find our receipt that would have his ID on it. After a few years, decided to try Fat Maddie's again and am very happy to see that it has turned around and is a very good restaurant. The quality of the food is great and we like that the menu is so large. Lots of options for everyone. The garden burgers are really good, the normal burgers are too. We discovered this gem in Danville. The food was delicious with a beautiful presentation. Lovely atmosphere and great service. Our server was very attentive. We met the owner, Kelly. She helped us arrange our National Association of Clock and Watch Collectors Danville Chapter 107's Holiday luncheon in December. She could not have been more accommodating. She personally helped with the food selections and we are looking forward to seeing her again and our members enjoying this delicious food. The restaurant is located in the Blackjawk Mall. Whole family loved it. Everything was super delicious. One of the best po boys I've had. Such good portions of the ingredients in it and fresh bread. French fries were delicious. Ate lunch here for the last time... I wish it was better, but they have gone down hill. I might go back for drinks and apps because the back patio has a nice view of the water. The menu is limited and not the same as San Ramon. I love the San Ramon location and will be going there for lunch or dinner. I ordered the ribs. They were horribly over cooked, not smoked, most likely baked in the oven with some simple seasoning. Nothing special or tasty, then served like meatloaf with a thick layer of BBQ sauce on top only, and not a good sauce. My wife's pull pork sandwich was not that great, mainly dry. Fat Maddie's Blackhawk RUINED MY MOTHER'S DAY! I had made a reservation. It was confirmed by text. When we arrived, the entire restaurant was in a state of confusion. They couldn't find ANYONE'S reservation. I showed them my text confirmation. It was 11am and they couldn't figure out how they could seat us WITH a reservation because they had another reservation at 12:30pm and that was going to mess everything up. We were seated outside in the FREEZING cold meanwhile the restaurant was empty with a bunch of empty tables inside. We waited over 15 minutes to get a heater turned on. When we asked our waitress to turn it on she said our server would come out and do it. Guess who "our server" turns out to be? Like I wasn't going to remember it was the same girl who just gave me attitude & left us freezing outside for 15 minutes. The heater NEVER WORKED the entire time I was there. We were freezing. It was horrible. But wait, it gets worse. The food: It clearly says a Bacon and Cheese SCRAMBLE. We paid $14 for instant hash-browns and an OMELETTE- not scramble. Their cooks don't even know the difference. Well then again their "cooks" make instant hash browns so that will tell you everything about the quality of food there. Our food was immediately COLD when it was brought to us, of course, because it was freezing outside. After all that, I paid the bill in cash and got out of there! What a terrible experience and we just wanted to leave ASAP and forget about the whole thing. Here's where it gets even WORSE! This is the reason I am writing this review. Because we were ready to leave and forget it but then this happens. My waitress (the red head pictured) stole the cash I left & had a another waiter follow me to my car and accuse me of walking out on the check! I was livid! After EVERYTHING, they want to try and steal cash! I went inside the restaurant to confront the thief and I made sure to record an extensive video of the incident that I am happy to share with any customer upon request. When I confronted the girl, all of a sudden she had found the money and the 20% tip I had left her DESPITE the horrible service. That's who I am as a customer and this is who they are as a business and employer. There's nothing to make up for this absolutely TRAUMATIC Mother's Day experience at Fat Maddie's Blackhawk. The seafood pasta was excellent. The sauce was quite tasty. The seafood was fresh including shrimp, mussels, and clams. Fat Maddie's is located in the indoor/outdoor mall next to the Blackhawk Museum in Danville, CA. The restaurant is large, has an attractive bar, and a very pleasant outdoor patio with views of the pond, waterfalls, and geese. The patio is an excellent option for the warm days. The mall is attractive, but when I was there, Friday noon, there were only a few people in the mall; but Fat Maddie's had about 10 tables with customers. The waiter was pleasant. We went there for lunch today and ordered a sandwich, a burger and fish and chips. When our server took the order we asked him if the dishes came with any sides and he said yes...also gave us the options of fries, onion rings, salad etc. So we asked for a side with each dish as it was free) However when the bill arrived we saw that they had charged us for the sides! We arrived in plenty of time to be seated outside, which worked well for us. Our server was sweet, but maybe had a few too many tables. I like the *Coffee Shop New* menu. Also, no brunch items mean it is not swamped on Sunday. Hubby in not fond of brunch food. Hubby had a Patty Melt and Fries. I had an order of Popcorn Shrimp and a Side Salad, and a glass of La Crema Chardonnay. Is was great... fresh, well prepared food. We'll this was our second time having dinner, and I was nervous because nobody was there! We'll 2 other tables had people at 5:15. We sat down and met our waiter Andrew. He asked if we had any questions, and I asked about the fish and chips, he wasn't sure but said it was liked by others. I then asked about the jambalaya, he said he had not tried it but it looked really good to him. It was kinda cold outside so I decided to go with the jambalaya. I sure am glad I did as it was delicious! Could have been a touch more spicy for me, but that's what pepper flakes and hot sauce is for. The second location of Fat Maddie's has replaced the Fieldhouse Sports Bar in Blackhawk Plaza. The original Fat Maddie's in San Ramon is a small, casual cafe thats a local favorite. The Blackhawk location keeps the TV for sports and has a more upscale feel: high ceilings, chandeliers, and big windows. It also has a full bar and cocktail and dessert menu. The food is just as good as the San Ramon location, and price-wise looks very similar to me. I got the beef and lamb gyros sandwich with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was huge and piled on high with grilled meat and shredded lettuce atop a soft pita bread. Their Tzatziki sauce is refreshing and goes well as a meat condiment and dressing for the lettuce and tomato. I would up eating the sandwich with knife and fork since it would have gotten really messy otherwise. Fried were crispy and piping hit. Service was friendly. I did not catch the name of the waitress but she looks like actress Kirsten Dunst (blonde version, Elizabethtown). read more

The old Field House Sports Bar is gone at Blackhawk. In its place is Fat Maddie's Grille! Really like this new lunch spot, Eat at the bar, the dining room or of course the beautiful patio. We chose the bar... The bartender/server was chill, I never caught her name but my receipt said Amanda. Hubby had Eagle Rock Manifesto beer and enjoyed it, he stole my lemon from my ice tea, He likes lemon in all his beers! We ordered Portobello Fritters to start $8 they were fantastic and the sauce they served complimented them perfectly! For lunch we had a grilled seafood sandwich$14 and fish and chips$13. My first thought was Uh oh not enough food!! my husband added a bowl of clam chowder that never came (thankfully) Because... I was WRONG!! The food was very good, AND very filling!! All the food was delicious but they don't care much for presentation, they could pretty it up a bit (IMO). Left here stuffed to the gills then had to walk it off... Dined at Fat Maddies last night for the second time... so here are my thoughts... Service: The Bad - service can be slow, annoyingly slow. The Good - during my first visit, the manager noticed our table of 6 was patiently waiting for our cocktails, which we could clearly see sitting on the bar; so she got a tray and brought our drinks over. She also realized that our server was nowhere to be found, so she took our order right away, made sure we received our food in a timely manner, and continued to check on us. Last night's visit started off slow as well, BUT, once our server noticed my husband and I sitting there without menus or water, he came straight over and took great care of us. So yes, service can be slow.... But management is quick to acknowledge it and fix it. Food: The Bad - The food isn't entirely "oh my goodness!! This is foodie heaven!!" nor is it inedible. It's good. It satisfies your hunger. The menu has enough variety to fulfill anyone's craving. The Good - I can't recall what my gfs ordered during my first visit... but I can say that everyone enjoyed their meal. In fact, no one asked for a take out box as we cleaned up our plates. Last night, my husband ordered the Barbecue Burger.... And there wasn't a single crumb left on his plate. On both occasions, I ordered the Mushroom Risotto (first time with shrimp, second time with chicken). Obviously I'm a fan of this dish considering I ordered it twice.... BUT, I will comment that the first one was a bit on the dryer side... and last night's risotto wasn't dry (yay!) but it did have more of the brown sauce on it which gave it a sweeter flavor. Clearly, this is all personal preference =) Location: The Bad - unfortunately, Fat Maddies does not have a sign at the front of the restaurant indicating that it IS indeed "Fat Maddies". Therefore, if you're not familiar with Blackhawk Plaza and its past restaurants, you may be wandering around searching for it. The Good - I know Blackhawk Plaza like the back of my hand.... So I can tell ya where to find it! =) Fat Maddies is located directly in front of Club Champion (specialty golf store). If ya'll remember The Fieldhouse..... Then you'll know where to head because Fat Maddies took over its location. Would we return? Sure! read more

It's truly very very difficult to leave a negative review but I am. I have been coming here for a very long time. I love the shopping center and I want to see it win. Last week, I joined a former colleague for lunch and as always suggested Fat Maddie's. I love their Strawberry salad this time of year. Well sadly that was my last visit. After only a few bites, I found a recently deceased fly in the salad. I say recently because it wasnt completely smooshed. I think with a food option like salad, a quick rinse, especially if not covered is owed to their patrons. I get it, this happens, but it just sucks because I absolutely loved going there. The menu is good with a number of options for vegetarians. The food is good and we come back for the taste and varieties. The place is most of the time clean. However, the staff can be flaky. We sat outside the other day and the service was beyond pathetic. They brought me coffee without a coffee spoon. They wouldn't come to take our order and I had to go call someone at the front desk. They wouldn't clean up our table, wouldn't come to check on our table. I had to go back to the front reception each time to get help. I doubt if we would ever return here. read more

3.5 stars just for the fact of the Beer selection! I have never been to Danville before, but wanted to check out the Blackhawk Museum near Fat Maddies in the shopping center. Fat Maddies is located at a pretty nice outdoor shopping plaza. Not too much open and not too much stores. Mostly good restraunts, but Fat Maddies seemed like a good try. Ordered some Fish Tacos. Had a choice with grilled or fried and went with grilled. They were okay. Good enough to get some food in your tummy. Had some items that sounded pretty good on the menu. Burgers sounded tasty. Shoutout to all my Beer peeps! There Beer Selection was the highlight for me! I am a big Beer fan and they had a good amount of dranks on Draft. Russian River: Pliny The Elder, Blind Pig,STS, Henhouse, Atamont, and FIELDWORK all on draft. Went with the Henhouse Oyster Stout. Was great!
