Four of us recently had brunch here. The atmosphere is casual and the food and drinks were worth it. We shared the donut holes with a fruit dip - they were light and flavorful. I had the smoked salmon eggs benedict - colorful and flavors melded nicely. One person was able to customize the cold meat & cheese platter to her liking - all cheese and fresh bread! This place has really stepped it up with their updated design - the place feels warm and welcoming from the moment you walk in, and the staff makes sure you feel right at home. A special shout out to Racheal H. for her outstanding service: attentive, detail-oriented, and full of energy that truly elevates the experience. The homemade sausage platter (2 pcs) is a standout - the fact that the sausages are smoked on site really comes through in unique flavor. The wings were also tasty and enjoyable, though at $20.50 for 10 pieces they felt a bit on the pricey side. Beer selection is excellent with plenty to choose from. I especially enjoyed the blonde - rich, flavorful, and a perfect match to the food. A homemade 12,5% stout was another something to try. Just go for 5 oz. Our 1st time to visit this restaurant. We were pleased they have a parking lot. We were early customers and chose a comfortable but casual table for two. Lunch was a 1/2 Ruben sandwich with a cup of split pea soup and a Jambalaya. Very happy with both. We left filled and satisfied. read more

"Good Food, Good Service, Good Beer, Wonderful Staff in the Mountains?" This restaurant/taproom is a little ways from the cafes in the heart of Danville. We almost missed it in fact. It's a little bit on the rustic side, with a hard concrete floor, and old fashioned, heavy wood furniture. One interesting detail: They have sound deadening panels on the walls. Good thinking! It makes it a little bit quieter inside. I appreciate this detail. Parking is much easier than downtown Danville, with lots of spaces right next to the property. We found our parking spot in 12 seconds. For some reason, this place reminds me of being in Big Bear, in the San Bernardino mountains. You get the idea--it's like a mountain cafe. I ordered the fish tacos, and my wife ordered chicken quesadillas. Both were very tasty. Note that the fish tacos are a little bit spicy, so be careful if you're sensitive to spice. They have an extensive list of beers on tap. About 20, I believe. You can either scan the QR code or they have a LED display up front. They have great deals on happy hour Tuesdays through Friday. Since I'm a cheapskate, next time I'm coming during happy hour. So overall, a very good visit. It's not as fancy as downtown Danville, but I enjoyed our visit nonetheless. We had a chance to chat with the nice manager, Laura, who gave us a little bit of history on the restaurant. Definitely will never be back! The fry oil for the fries was so old and almost rancid. you could smell it a couple of tables away. I hope no one gets sick from it. The sliders had no seasoning at all on them. Service was ok but Mr. Mouthy manchild busboy Chastised me in front of the whole room because I wasn't happy with the busgirl not able to understand me. Updated review after 8 years: Wow, my last review of Growler was 8 years ago! Downtown Danville has a few places for adult beverages and a good meal like Danville Brewing and Revel. Go toward San Ramon in City Center and you have Fieldwork and Chow. What makes Growler special to me is that they are a very child-friendly gastropub, especially for weekend lunch, Big wooden tables, plenty of high chairs, and a welcoming environment. Our 2yo was a big fan of the Cheeseburger Sliders, and was able to eat 1.5/2 of them. Not overly greasy nor salty - just good classic beefy flavor. They are pretty generous with the helping of thick-cut fries. Everything in moderation of course! For adults, I recommend the Mushroom Swiss Burger. Just like good pizza, cheese, mushrooms, and ground beef seem perfect together. The Satay Burger was interesting with the peanut sauce and pickled jalapeños though I think the Mushroom Swiss is better. If you're a parent with young kids and still want a pub experience with excellent food that's kid-friendly, I recommend Growler! read more

We love The Growler! The smash burger is my husbands's favorite, my kiddos love the pasta and meatballs, the deviled eggs were delicious, and pretty much everything on the menu is fantastic. Delicious spicy margarita and on top of the amazing food, the ambiance and the energy is exactly what my family and I love. Relaxed, warm and welcoming, and Laura has made us feel right at home. This is one of our go-to restaurants in the area. Beer selection is good, staff is friendly and atmosphere is casual. I do agree with some reviews that you can get an occasional big party that can get loud --- not due to the adults, but the kids. Food is good but I have got an occasional miss. Think it's really a 4-star but rating up because I think some of the other reviews are a bit unfair. read more

What an absolute incredible dining experience. We went here on a whim last night since we were staying in the area with our two young kids and we are so glad we did. Our waitress held open the door as we walked in and gave us a warm, friendly greeting. Even when we walked in, everyone stopped what they were doing and greeted us! I've never had that happen before at a restaurant. I wish I would have gotten here name. She had glasses and bright red hair. I hope the owner knows who that is so she gets credit for this review. The menu is not your typical pub fare. The classics are on there but there is a variety of other options for those who want something a little lighter. I loved that! We ordered the chicken nachos, chicken teryaki bowl, Reuben sandwich with fries, grilled cheese and fries for the kids. All were excellent. I also loved their beer menu. It was extensive! At a glance too, they do quite a bit of events every week. I absolutely love that they offer a seniors special every Wednesday from 11-2 pm. The best part though was our waitress. She was absolutely the best waitress we have ever had! Ever. So incredibly sweet and friendly. She made my kids feel very special when she brought out coloring stuff, stickers and even little squishy's! I hope she gets to read this and know how incredibly grateful we are for her care and high level of service. Recommending this place to all of my Danville and San Ramon clients! The Growler is our favorite place in Danville to get dinner. We have a baby and we love that The Growler is so family-friendly. It is really rare to find a restaurant that is good for kids, that has great food, and that has a wonderful - seriously wonderful - beer selection. The Growler is that spot. Food: we particularly love the Happy Hour menu for shareable food. All day Happy Hour on Tuesdays - how awesome! We also love their burgers and sandwiches (try the Cuban Midnight, it's really great). They also have great salads and fish tacos. Beer: They have a full selection of craft beers on tap, always rotating. They take special care in ordering really delicious beers from a wide range of breweries. I also personally love that they always have a sour beer on tap. Their fridge selection is also great. It's a fun way to discover new brews. Staff: The staff here really feels like a family. They are all so friendly, attentive, helpful, and welcoming. Everyone is incredibly nice and genuinely wants to make sure you have a good experience. Ambiance: They have lots of TVs so you can watch the major sport events. This is a hidden secret because it's really good, but with all the other flashy restaurants in Danville, this gets missed. The day we went, we wanted something good, but not your typical Downtown Danville restaurant. We just came from a party and wanted to share something for an early dinner. The Growler came up in our conversation and my husband was craving the Poutine and I went along with it. He likes beer, I prefer wine and they have it! We parked in their lot and dined inside. There's also outside seating but it was too cold that day. Service was fast, friendly and our server always made a point to check on us. We did get the poutine because my husband is all about the cheese curds here and we split a mushroom burger. What we did wrong was we didn't get our own burgers! That was probably one of the best mushroom burgers I ever had! It was the best combo of everything and it was so good! I would definitely do it again the next time I go or having a burger craving. Meals were terrible on Valentine's night. We were four and all plates were cold and even hard except for my boy's burger. The saugsage platter was not the same as last time.(There was a few slices of pickles and hard dry cold sausages) and flatbread was too cold to chew, and my girl's mac'n cheese was dry and obviously not hot at all. Our last visit was a good experience ,but their meals from last night were totally different. I know the chefs were busy on Valentine's night, but seemed like all of the meals had been prepared a long time ago and reheated to be served. This review is for a DoorDash order. We chose the growler because on DoorDash they had burgers available in 30 minutes which was perfect in between meetings. I ordered the Reuben and the jalapeño burger without reading the reviews. The Reuben looked hearty in the pictures. However, this delicious looking sandwich didn't taste like anything. It didn't taste like grease, it didn't taste like salt, it didn't taste like sauerkraut, it didn't taste like thousand island. I mean, the rye bread barely tasted like rye as it tasted more like wheat bread that looked like rye. The Diablo burger looked appetizing in the pictures. I like the idea of jalapeños on burgers for that extra kick. Unfortunately, there was no kick, the burger was cooked thoroughly which was good but it was pretty flavorless. I really liked how the food looked but it didn't taste like anything and for the price, it's not that great. I do like that the food was cooked it really quickly and they were able to deliver really quickly. So if you like bland and quick food, this is the place to go to. read more

I had been praying to get another job down in the Danville area just so I could drop by the GROWLER and get some savory brewskis and of course my go to...Buffalo Cauliflower Bites! Today I toasted the weekend by starting with a 1/2 Acre Brewery (Chicago) Pale, then a Mai Tai PA by Alvarado Street Brewery (Monterey), and finishing with a Transcending Universes IPA by Original Pattern Brewery (Oakland). Now you tell me where you can get such variety at Happy Hour...yes...Happy Hour prices! I was on my way home after seeing a job in San Ramon and was inclined to drop in and spend some much needed R and R time with Crystal (my eye candy) and team. Always well-received and made to feel at home with great beer, wine or mixed drink--whatever suits your fancy. The food is fresh and organic and always delicious in my experiences with this establishment. Find out for yourself. Never take another man's word, but give them a chance, see for yourself. The crowd is starting to pool in and I have to get back to doing what I know best in these situations...toast life in the company of friends and a welcoming host! We went out for one last outing before the lock down. Their were also plenty of other people with the same idea. Plenty of restaurants we're also busy and very crowded. We found out this place which was not so busy and we were able to get a patio table and plenty of seating. The servers were great and super friendly. We had double dipped fries and burgers and vegan chili. Everything we ordered was good and portion wise was generous. They also had the Sunday Night football game on, as well. The food and beers are spot on. I enjoyed my classic burger. The fries are dry however get salad on the side instead and the dish is great.

I'm not a fan of IPA's or beers that are supposed to be something else but still taste like a bitter IPA. It's a common problem on the West Coast. Had trouble finding a red, amber, Irish type beer. I picked something to be nice and left a good tip but won't be going back. I'm sure if you love IPA's you'll have a different experience. read more

We have going to the Growler Pub for Saturday breakfast and some days we'll hit the Happy Hour. The Growler in Danville is a very unpretentious and comfortable place just outside the main section of town but easily within walking distance. The beer selection is always very good and varied. I like that we can get pours from 10 - 16oz. The wait staff is profesional and efficient. Food is really good with a good selection. The only downside I have seen and this is maybe 5% of all the times we have visited is that the kitchen can be slow. Most times our omelet is out in no time but every once in awhile I finish my 16oz beer before I see my food. That is not a good experience. Luckily it is not too slammed but if the food takes 30 min with 3 tables what would be like of the restaurant was full? Other than the hit or miss kitchen it is well worth a visit and we continue to go back every week. read more

Came on a Sunday afternoon cause I had a gift card and the first 3 things we tried to order couldn't be ordered at that time due to them being out of a specific roll. This was a bummer cause we really wanted to try the house made sausages. Ended up getting the chipotle chicken sandwich which was good loved the bacon on it which makes me think breakfast might be the way to go here. My husband got the patty melt which had way to many onions and they were not very caramelized. The fries could have been great if they weren't cold and had some salt. Service was friendly but nonexistent considering how many people were standing around. No refills on waters or asking how things were. I might come back to try the breakfast but not again for lunch. read more

My meal was good. I had the double smash burger and a great beer, from their usual great selection. My wife's experience was not so great. She origionally ordered the Curried Vegtabke Bowl, but was informed by the server that the chef informed him that it was not available. Ok, no big deal, so she then ordered the Chicken Satay Skewers, that were on the main menu AND happy hour menu. Our server hesitated, stating that he needed to check with the chef if they had that item. They did not. My wife stopped at that point and did not try to order anything else. The server was truly apologetic. We felt bad the him, as it was apparentlyhis first week there. We were a little perplexed about not having these menu items available, as the occurred on a Friday night at 5:45pm. Our immediate thought was maybe they were about to out of business, as we have experienced the same lack of menu items at a restaurant in the past that immediately closed down after a similar experience. The restaurant was packed, the server was new, so we concluded that closure was not likely imminent, which is great, as we do like the ambiance, and do want to try it again and see if this last experience was an anomaly. read more
