    Zab Pork Noodle Soup
    Anita Z.

The service here was quick and the girl who served us was very attentive. I ended up switching noodles with my friend as we liked each other's better and she asked if we'd like to have additional bowls for sharing since she remembered our original order! We were able to sit down, order, and finish our food within 36 minutes. Personally, I felt like the noodles did not soak up the flavor of the broth, though the broth for both noodles (khao soi and zab pork noodle soup) were very flavorful. I still enjoyed the experience and thought the restaurant had a nice casual atmosphere. It seems like a good place to get something warm on a cold day.

Given that this is my third time coming to Fat Mao Noodles it should be clear that I love this place. Vancouver has many great food options (poutine, Indian, comfort food etc.) - most I've yet to try but here I am again at Fat Mao. This time round it was the roti (well, every time) and the Khao Sol Chicken Curry with Shanghai flat noodles. The pictures tell you how much I loved it. The service is warm and friendly and the price is right too.

Located on a quiet side street The place: It's a tiny place with lots of seating. It doesn't feel crowded though. I think because there's a large mirror so it appears larger or something The food: I got the Khao Soi Chicken Curry which I loved. The menu description of it is Braised chicken leg in a rich and creamy northern Thai style curry. Pickled mustard greens and crispy noodles garnish. They recommended getting it with wonton noodles so that's what it did. It was so good. The chicken was fall off the bone, the broth was so flavorful and it was a very generous serving! I found this place on my last day in Vancouver and I really wish I would have found it on my first! They will definitely be seeing me again next time I'm in Vancouver.

We were craving Khao soi and Fat Mao totally hit the spot. We split a papaya salad and a large order of Khao soi and the food was plenty. The papaya salad was crisp, fresh and spicy, while the Khao soy was creamy and crunchy and perfect. The restaurant is quite small but we were able to nab a lunch counter seat right away. The service was prompt and friendly We will definitely be coming back again when we have this particular craving. So so good!

Wasn't mind blowing or something id go out of my way for but was good. Really liked the soups but feel the noodles can be hit or miss based on the noodle choice Duck braised noodle -3.5/5- sweeter soup which was nice. I enjoyed it but if i had to choose maybe enjoyed the boat noodle or khao soi soups better Khao soi -4/5- enjoyed the soup the most, i felt the chicken was just ok though Spicy Boat noodle 4/5- really flavorful and nice, id recommend the thick or thin noodle but not egg noodle Roti-3.5/5 i liked the roti texture and chew a lot. But the sauce didnt go the best w it Boozy Thai tea- really strong preferred the lychee cocktail better flavor wise. Would recommend regular thai tea if u want a yummy drink Lychee cocktail- pretty good and nice flavor

Came here because it's in the same complex as the Sheraton Wall Centre, where I was staying while in town. The inside is cozy and welcoming--lots of small tables and noodle bar seating, so it's great whether you're solo or with a few friends. The noodles are legit. We ordered the Khao Soi and Nham Ngeaw. Both soup noodles were on point, with complex flavors layered beautifully from the broth prep to the garnishes. You can tell there's care in how each bowl is built. Price is a little steep, but we both left satisfied. It really hit the spot on a rainy day.

This small restaurant in downtown Vancouver serves food with big flavor. The service was outstanding. We ordered the Roti with seafood curry dipping sauce. The roti was hot and the dipping sauce was very tasty. I also had a Singtao beer which was ice cold and served in a frosted glass. A nice touch For our main course I ordered the braised duck noodles and my wife had the braised beef noodles. The broth was rich and tasty and the meat very tender. My duck fell off the bones. The veggies were crisp and the noodles great With 1 beer, oolong tea, the roti and two generous portions of soup the total was a very reasonable $52 US (72 Ca). I highly recommend you give this place a try when in Vancouver. They also have a sister restaurant in China Town

A flavor bomb that is conveniently located near the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre. The place is small, so it can get busy pretty quickly. My wife and I came here on a whim and had to wait ~10 minutes to get seated. Since it's small, the place can get a bit loud. The staff are so friendly. The papaya salad was fire. It was one of (if not) the best papaya salad that we've tried. It had a great crunch/texture and some solid heat. The peanuts appeared to be dry roasted which added a really nice flavor to the dish. For entree, i ordered the Nham Ngeaw, which was the 1st time i tried the dish. It was pretty massive. Generous amounts of rib meat as well as pork blood chunks. The dish was spicy, fishy, sour, salty...a great umami bomb that makes you want to drink your beer. Really solid dish. Every bite tasted differently. Highly recommend this place.

Our party came in while waiting for another seating to try the Khao Soi. The soup base was done very well and the dish was delicious overall. We also shared a string bean appetizer which was great too!

    Menu

Came here with friends for dinner. The waitress warned us at the start there would be an 18% automatic gratuity charge because we are a group of 6. Each family was planning to pay their own, and so the automatic gratuity was waived. We ordered: Khao Soi Chicken Curry $24 - tasty and not heavily creamy. Braised Duck Noodles (with rice sheet noodles) $26 - tender duck quarter leg, soup was very dark like soy sauce and unexpectedly sweet? Braised Beef Noodles $24 - beef was very tender. Zab Pork Noodle $24 - at regular heat, it was notably spicy, but the milder version had a more pleasant balance of sour and spice. Pork rib meat was very tender. Hot & Sour Seafood $25 - moderately spicy, included 3 pieces each of fish balls, squid, and shrimp. All of these items were in a broth. Oberall, there was a good balance of protein, vegetables and noodles in each bowl. It was nice that none of the food was overly salty or made us thirsty. To end our meal, we shared a Fat Mao Shaved Ice $12 - a bowl of coarse shaved ice over a small amount of panna cotta, surrounded by tea flavored jelly cubes with Thai tea syrup poured over. While not a big fan of tea flavored desserts, this was actually light and refreshing to have, especially if you needed to cool off from a spicier main. The service was generally good. The food was priced higher than average, but was good quality and quantity. Glad we tried this restaurant, and it was just a 5 minute walk down from the Scotia Bank Cineplex Theatre.

I had been looking forward to trying Fat Mao for a while and heard many people rave about it. I was pleasantly surprised to find this secondary location that we didn't know about. We got the Beef noodles ($23) and Khao Soi chicken ($22), and honestly we were disappointed. Not only was it very expensive, it lacked flavour which was shocking considering how good it looked. I generally love beef noodles and we found ourselves adding spices to be able to finish the soup. The restaurant is small and cosy inside and was pretty busy for a weeknight. Service was average, nothing to complain about there. Overall, I'm not sure I'd return as I think there are better places for these dishes at a better price point.

    Laksa noodle soup

The service is very welcoming though there is a bit of a wait we were seated quickly. The laksa noodles was delicious. We what tried the blood soup noodles and while it was flavorful, it is not to our taste. There was a electric shortage where the lights flickered and water dripped down on some of the seats. Overall the did was great but can use a bit of maintenance.

A few days ago, I stopped by Fat Mao Noodles and it turned out to be such a satisfying meal. We ordered a couple of noodle dishes and everything came out beautifully presented and full of flavor. The broth was rich and comforting, with a deep, savory taste that felt carefully balanced rather than overly salty or heavy. The noodles had a great texture, perfectly cooked and able to hold onto the sauce and broth well. One of the highlights for me was the beef dish. The meat was incredibly tender and well seasoned, with a nice depth of flavor that paired perfectly with the fresh herbs and greens on top. I also appreciated how generous the portions were. It felt hearty without being overwhelming. The atmosphere was casual and relaxed, making it an easy place to enjoy a meal without feeling rushed. Service was friendly and efficient, which added to the overall experience. This is definitely a spot I would come back to when I'm craving comforting, flavorful noodles done right.

Downside was the calamari, the pieces are quite big which make it not as crispy as it would be. My partner really wanted to try their Boat Noodle for a while now so we were quite excited to try that dish. The waiter was nice and recommended a couple dishes for us. Som Tum (Papaya Salad) 3/5 The texture was nice and it tasted refreshing but it is QUITE spicy. I appreciate the authentic Thai spice level but it was too spicy for us. I liked the sourness and I know this rating is a very personal rating based on our spice tolerance. Roti with Curry Sauce 3.75/5 Nice, flaky roti that wasn't too oily. I wish there was a little more sauce. Pad See Ew with Crab Meat 4/5 Great flavor. There was a decent number of clumped up noodle but the portion was great. Good amount of crab as well. Boat Noodle Soup 4.25/5 This was the best boat noodle we had so far. Flavorful broth with generous portion of various meats. There could be an option to get more noodles but my partner got this and she was satisfied with the amount since there were good chunks of meat. Good heat that creeps up. Roselle Drink 3.75-4.5/5 Great compliment to the dishes as it lightened and refreshed our pallette. Slightly sour. It tasted better with the food than by itself. Thai Milk Tea 3.5/5 Good enough. Wasn't the best but wasn't bad. Rainbow Sweet Sticky Rice 4.25/5 We were surprised it came in a cup and that it was soup-ier than we imagined. I was hoping that they had mango sticky rice but we thoroughly enjoyed the coconut I think it's also important to keep in mind that this is a relatively fast paced restaurant. There is some wait so you want to finish your food, pay, and leave. The staff was nice but we could tell that they wanted to keep the flow. We would be coming back again for sure! We loved the staff and the food.

Even on a weekday evening, the restaurant was nearly full. We started with the papaya salad, which was fresh, crisp, and nicely seasoned. We also ordered the roasted duck curry. I'm not usually the biggest duck fan, but the curry itself had great flavor. The broth was a bit looser and soupier than I was expecting, but it paired wonderfully with rice. I was also surprised to find pieces of whole fruit in the curry, something I haven't encountered in Thai curries before. The standout of the meal was definitely the Crying Tiger platter. We ordered it with both beef and pork jowl. While the beef was excellent, the pork jowl was especially memorable. Both meats had a wonderful charred, smoky flavor from the grill and were served alongside fresh vegetables and sticky rice, making for a satisfying and well-balanced dish. The prices were also extremely reasonable for the quality and portions. There are still so many dishes on the menu I'd love to try, and I'd happily return on a future visit to Vancouver.

As usual, I'm late to the party. I've heard about Phnom Penh…read moreand its famous chicken wings ever since I moved to Vancouver, nine-ish years ago. My fellow Yelpers raved about this place when I first moved here, and my kid came here with her school pals 5-6 years ago and also raved about the wings. It's been on my list to come here forever - and last night, finally, I did. It did not disappoint. My kid warned me, there'll probably be a line up waiting to get in (they don't take reservations here. I checked), so we decided to go at an off-time and get an early dinner, around 5pm on Friday. We walked there and, miracle of miracle, there was no line and we got seated right away. (Granted, we got the last vacant table in the place, and when we left after our meal, there already was a line of people waiting to get in). Food-wise...wow. I am NOT one for adventurous eating, so there were dishes on the menu I couldn't comfortably order (I wish I could, but hey, I'm better now than I used to be!). Still, there was lots for me to choose from. And first and foremost, I HAD to try the famous chicken wings. And I can honestly say, they were the best I've ever had: SO SO crunchy and crispy on the outside, and hot and moist on the inside. OMG so so so good. I can't speak highly enough of these! My kid ordered the butter beef. It was tasty and soft ("like butta!"), and the marinade was lovely, but personally, I couldn't get over the...rawness and redness of the meat and juice (which looked like blood to me). For fellow non-adventurous eaters out there, this might not be for you, despite how flavorful it tasted. It was just hard for me to get over how it looked. (I know I'm in a minority here. This dish is one of their most popular and asked-for dishes). We had the garlic dry spare ribs. I love spareribs. These were delicious but a tad too salty and greasy. I brought most of them home and had them today for lunch. I gotta say, they were so much better for me today: less salty, and I blotted off the excess grease. Delicious! My kid ordered a "small" sweet and sour soup with prawns, and wow, it came in a huge black cauldren. I can't imagine ordering a large size. Anyhow, this soup was a stand-out soup - especially for my kid who said she had dreams about it all night (lol)! So complex in flavors - spicy, sweet, savory, chock full of prawns and sprouts and lotus shoots and pineapple chunks and and other delicious stuff.... For me, it was a wee tad too spicy, but wow, even I thought, this is a special soup. So delicious and warming. 10/10. Our servers were prompt and impressively able to efficiently tend to a full house of diners. They got it all down to a science here. One issue of note: my kid had to use the washroom at one point and she left for a very extended period of time. I actually thought at one point that something had happened to her or she was ill, she was gone so long (VERY unlike her). When she returned, she told me it was "quite a hike", around the back of the restaurant and up a flight of stairs, too. I only make note of this in case anyone has mobility issues, know that the bathroom will be difficult (or impossible) for you to access.
