My date ordered the Birria Tacos and Mexican Street Corn which she did not enjoy. But overall, the prices were not expensive at all but the waiters do not take orders. How lucky am I that my Tattoo Artist is down the street from this Awesome Hoboken Gem. Anytime we are in town ( from NY ) we try to stop in. This place is soooo good. Food is absolutely Delicious, the decor is hip with a mix of traditional Mexican influence NYC disco type vibes ( if that makes sense ) with a DJ as all. The DJ's music hits you hard and is loud but a great rnb, throwback set. Shout out especially to the French toast, breakfast tacos, and burria quesadilla. Our Birria grilled cheese was burnt but they graciously replaced it. Yabba dabba pancakes was fun to order but taste wise it wasn't impressive and was kinda burnt/dry. Service tried their best. They were always coming around and at one point they ran out of knives. The people who ordered a grilled cheese couldn't eat for about 10-15 because they weren't able to cut into their grilled cheese. I loved the decor and ambience, it's very cozy and inviting on a hot summer day! We ordered passionfruit margaritas, the shrimp ceviche, and beef/chicken empanadas. I was very disappointed. The ceviche was a little bit on the sweeter side, and the shrimp tasted frozen. The empanadas were a bit burnt, and I wasn't a fan of the filling. The beef was way too ground for my liking, and the chicken was on the drier side. The margaritas were watered down. I appreciate our server; she was kind and honest. Checked out Fat Taco on a Friday night right before the nightlife began and it was so loud already- the dj was there when we arrived and we had to yell to hear each other. The decor was nice and our server was great and the food! Everything we had (queso and chips, birria tacos) was really tasty but definitely under Hoboken prices $$. The bucket margaritas were also pretty good and not overly sweet like a lot of other margarita places, it was smaller than expected for their regular price but we did wait for the restaurant to turn into nightlife that night to get the specialized price. The seating is not very comfortable with the chairs/stools being how there are but it goes with the decor/ambience of the place. It's Hoboken- so paid street parking especially in this area can be tricky, try to find parking a couple streets down and just walk or grab a ride here. Make the reservation! I'll take a taco any day!! I usually don't travel outside of New York for a restaurant but Fat Taco in Hoboken was worth the trip and it's only 25 mins and a $3 dollar ride on the Path train so there's no excuse to not check them out. Known as the House of Birria... they have an extensive menu of Mexican cuisine including a number of items with their famous Birria sauce. I tried their Birria Quesadilla's but they also had chicken and beef tacos, Mac & Cheese, Grilled Cheese, Birria Bombs and Dumplings so you have an option of the classic or something completely new! I obviously needed to try a bit of everything so I also got their Street Corn Mac & Cheese, Baja Fish Tacos and Flautas and omg.. everything was so flavorful. Let's not forget about the drinks. I love a place that offers a good flight and this margarita flight included the classic, mango, strawberry and passion fruit margaritas that were so refreshing for the hot day. I love margaritas and happy hour so I was super excited to try Fat Taco. They have awesome bogo deals for apps and margaritas during happy hour. You order via a QR code and start a running tab and the server comes over to check your order before it gets submitted. At first I wasn't the biggest fan of this system but it is easy to order more and close out without having to flag down your server. We started with the $11 bogo app deal: nachos and jalapeño poppers. We did the $14 bogo margarita deal: a passion fruit and a mango margarita, both on the rocks with tajin on the rim. We also got the Birria mac and cheese and 3 tacos: shrimp, chicken and chorizo. Nachos were so good considering that there wasn't any meat on them. Poppers were standard but good. The mac and cheese tasted like velveta and was super creamy. It was tasty but very heavy/filling. The tacos were good but are pricey, $6-7 a piece (depending on the selected meat). I don't think they're worth the price tag. The margs were strong and tasty - such a great deal for only $14. We ordered a Modelo and did another round of bogo margs: original on the rocks and a frozen strawberry. The margs really sneak up on you. After having 2 and sharing the 3rd I was really feeling it. Visited Sept. 2022. My girls and I checked out Fat Taco for brunch on a Saturday after hanging out at Tipsy Tie Dye! We were seated immediately and welcomed with a vibe. The aesthetics are cool and it wasn't packed at the time we went around 3pm. The menu didn't have many vegetarian options at the time but now, I checked their menu and there are so many more! For starters we ordered the Mexican street corn and carne asada fries. We decided on a sangria tower which was a great idea for a group of 4. We all were able to enjoy 3 glasses each. For my entrée, I had to order the churro french toast. Anything churro flavored is my jam! We all enjoyed our meals while dancing in our chair with music from a live DJ. Our waitress was attentive the entire visit which contributed to the good experience. Since they have more vegetarian options for myself, I definitely want to visit again and try out more menu items. I am never ever inclined to write a review in general, but this place really changed my mind. I have come here twice- both times for a friend's birthday. First time we went, we had used the QR code to order, and the four of us ordered the same drink, a regular margarita. They show up at the table, two are frozen. When we explained that we had ordered all of the same drink, instead of being nice and helpful, the staff basically just said that there's nothing they could do and they would remake the drink, but we would have to pay for it. Second time, we come in for another birthday and instead of using the QR code we asked our server if she could just take our orders for us as there was a lot of us. She took all of our orders, and about 25 minutes later the food comes out. My friend's entree arrives and it's incorrect. We had all heard her order her entree and she had expressed that the server misheard her and gave her the incorrect plate. Instead of trying to be kind or helpful, the server argued with us and said that's what she ordered and that was that, didn't even try to help or anything. As a fellow restaurant employee, i do understand that it can get frustrating at times with the "customer is always right" attitude but to be blatantly rude to customers who approached you with kindness and were simply asking for a simple fix is ridiculous. I had stopped into Fat Taco shortly after it had opened for a terrible margarita filled with sugary mix. But, several years later, the place was always packed and their weekend club vibe was likely the envy of other local bars. So, I figured that there had to be something positive about the place, and I wanted to give it a real shot. So, we headed over there for dinner the other night. We were able to get an enjoyable table outside, which was ideal for people-watching. However, when we sat down, we were instantly annoyed by the fact that we received a real menu, but still had to order and pay through a QR code and order management website. In fact, it created a good deal of chaos, as it changed my order of 3 tacos to something like 25 tacos. It was impossible for me to notice this in the app, but our server soon came by with the ticket from the kitchen to confirm that I had not meant to order that much food. He said there was a glitch in the system, ugh. Aside from that hiccup, our server, Joshua, was a delight. He was beyond helpful in getting our order squared aware and making sure the final payment was accurate. We were there on a "Thirsty Thursday" evening, which meant that a few drinks and appetizers were available at half-price. My companion opted for the special $8 mojito, which was oddly very green in color, but was extremely well-balanced in terms of flavor. My skinny, spicy margarita was from the standard menu, and it was excellent! It was strong, fiery, and not super sweet. We then went back to the menu of specials to get a half-price Tropical Guacamole, which was packed with fresh mango, pineapple, jalapeño, red onion, tomato, and cilantro. The generous bowl of guac was chunky with ripe fruit and herbs; it was excellent. The accompanying chips, however, were too fried for my liking. When it came to the main dishes, my dining partner found the steak fajitas decent, but the meat too thickly sliced. I thought my tacos were fine, but far from perfect. The Pollo Asado included chipotle-marinated chicken breast that was very dry, despite being topped with pico de gallo and cilantro sour cream. Though I did not think it would have been possible, the Margarita Shrimp taco's tequila-marinated shrimp were even more overdone and not very fresh. Again, the guacamole and pico de gallo accoutrements did not do much to save the taste. Lastly, the Veggie Harvest variety was a bit better, but also not perfect. It supposedly had contained diced sweet potatoes, zucchini, squash, black beans, and shaved brussel sprouts that had been tossed in hot honey. I thought the vegetable taco was the best of the three, but I could not find any brussel sprouts in it. I let Joshua know, and he had the chef send out a small bowl of the shaved greens, letting me know that I might have just missed the thin strips within the taco. However, I really had not detected anything. The taco shells were all also very processed tasting and did not resemble corn in any way. We concluded that Fat Taco was fine; the food was better than simply edible, and the service was friendly enough. We would be willing to return, but also did not need to. read more

My daughter went there to eat last Friday night and her meal and tip came to about $27 which they charged on my card. Three days later there was another charge to my card for over $35. We live over 40 miles away from this place. It's not like somewhere we frequent. Obviously somebody took a picture of my daughter's card and use it again. I have not been refunded yet and I'm still waiting for the manager to call me back. This is what happens when people see kids come in and they pay with the card.
