The guy in the front with the accent has a really bad attitude and is not customer or staff friendly at all... he was actually so rude that we decided to leave - this was supposed to be our 3rd time here but will never be coming back.... Maybe its a language barrier issue but I remembered him from the last time being rude a bit of a european accent. Get a better HOSTESS. Plenty of other great places in town and you would think by his attitude the place is the hottest in town - i have news for you its not. The only thing good we ever had there was the chicken. 4.5 stars My last visit to Viv & Jules had been during its opening week with its limited menu, so I thought an updated commentary on my more recent experience would be beneficial. The restaurant was still a scene and was even packed on the early evening hours of our Saturday visit. We checked in for our reservation and were escorted to a table in the quieter, rear dining room. We were then immediately greeted by our server in order to capture our water preferences, which we provided while beginning to assess our options for something stronger from the cocktail list. My selection was newer to the seasonal menu and included pisco and passion fruit; it was a tart, sour, and refreshing concoction. However, the large glass contained a great deal of ice and a straw, so it was difficult to avoid finishing it in a quick manner. Right after our drinks arrived, we received individual, crusty slices of whole wheat sourdough and fresh, salt-topped butter. We skipped appetizers on that trip, heading straight to our entrees. I selected the Roasted Salmon. Its crispy, seasoned skin was in tact, and the moist filet was cooked to a perfect medium temperature. While the salmon was delicious, I thought the piece was very small for $30. However, it was plated in a beurre blanc broth that had been infused with a yuzu-tobiko caviar, which likely had been a factor in the pricing. The sauce also encompassed creamy mashed potatoes and diced late winter vegetables that all lay hidden within it. It was an absolutely delicious plate! My companion found the Dry-Aged Burger enjoyable, and we both particularly liked the Beef Tallow Fries, which had a stronger flavor than those typically cooked in other fat sources. After dinner, I ordered a Guatemalan Drip Coffee and found it pretty disappointing. It was very bitter, acidic, and too fruit-forward for my liking. In fact, the cappuccino also received negative reviews, and the Espresso Martini that I had ordered once at the bar a few weeks earlier was similarly strong and reminiscent of chicory coffee. Overall, I think Viv & Jules had improved their efficiency, expanded their culinary options, and implemented a seasonal menu to keep things interesting, all while maintaining its trendy buzz. I just would not recommend ordering their coffee. read more

We came here after Mother's Day! Dinner we actually google places in the area where we can just walk and we were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is very warm and cozy we sat at the bar and the bartender was very welcoming and friendly that's always a plus and we ordered our cocktails The Yuzu Lychee Highball was very good and perfectly balanced and the Pisco Sour with guava was also good but a bit too sweet for my taste! we also ordered the fries which are made in beef tallow and omg they were so delicious I could not stop eating them reminiscing of the McDonald's fries when they first first opened up not now lol They also served warm bread with butter also yummy! Stopped back in with 3 girlfriends on Friday night around 7:30pm (yes we had a resy) and was able to try multiple dishes! The service was great and it was very packed. We ordered a bunch of apps, crab hash, stuffed gougeres, cavatelli pork sugo, and lamb. We also each ordered a burger and tried the piri piri chicken. The food overall was good but a little underwhelming? The apps were kinda small and the burger just ok. Fries were very fried/ crunchy (for my liking) but tasted hot and fresh. Overall we prob won't return for food but cocktails are excellent and the bartenders are great! Would recommend for drinks!! read more

Went Wednesday night after work with some girlfriends and had a great time. The space is really cute and the service was excellent. We ordered a bunch of shareable plates plus the short rib for the table, and everything was delicious. The standout for me was definitely the beef tallow fries, which were perfectly crispy and salty. For dessert, the peanut butter chocolate tartlet gave Reese's vibes, and I loved the salted caramel sticky toffee pudding. Cocktails were also a hit - the fig Manhattan was especially good if you like something on the sweeter side. Excited to come back next season and try more of the menu. read more

Made last minute brunch plans here with a girlfriend on a chilly, dreary Saturday at the end of May. The restaurant was practically empty when we arrived at 1:30 pm. There were only a few other tables full and a couple seats taken at the bar. The restaurant is very pretty inside - it has Grand Vin and Olivia vibes - nice florals, candles, a fireplace in the back, several mirrors, etc. The drink glasses and plates were dainty. Good place for a girl's outing or a date night. Since it was our first time here, the waitress was really helpful with describing the various brunch entrees. I decided on the ricotta pancakes - which is in fact one gigantic pancake. It was delicious and could easily be shared. My friend got the mushroom omelette which she enjoyed. I would have liked to try the Tiramisu french toast but it's a huge portion and too sweet for an entire entrée and sadly they don't offer it in a half size. I recommended they offer a petite size like Anthony David's used to offer with their french toast. I can't remember which brunch cocktail I had but it was also delicious. I hope that the day we were there was just an off day and its usually livelier - it's a beautiful place and the service was very good. It would be interesting to see how the service is at a busier time. I'm less into their dinner menu than I am the brunch menu - the dinner has limited entrees that are mostly on the pricier side. read more

It's been so hard to get reservations but we got lucky with bar seats for a last minute girls night. Shared a few apps and dessert (and wine and a mocktail). The crab hash brown and fries were great. Fried and thin and flavorful. We also shared the toffee pudding (which is more like bread than pudding) which was yummy. I will say I wish the menu was a little more enticing it was hard to pick things to share that sounded good. Viv & Jules is a newer restaurant & cocktail bar in Hoboken, NJ. My Fiancée and I had an absolutely amazing experience, our server Michael took great care of us throughout our entire time spent. Firstly, if there is one thing to order it would be the Cavatelli Pork Sugo - this is a must have 'Share' but can easily be an individual's main if they choose. The tuna special was impeccable as well, and the burger received a 10/10 from my fiancée (a girl who loves a good burger), make sure to get the fries extra crispy as well. Solid waitress who was able to handle a party of 10 with ease. Whole staff was very attentive and friendly Upscale quaint vibe with a touch of modern class The Cavatelli Sugo being an appetizer makes my blood boil. It was by far the best thing that was on the table that night. I should have ordered it again for my entree after my party ordered a few of them for our apps. The entree section is very limited and I think they could definitely expand there. I ended up getting the chicken peri peri which was very well seasoned and cooked to perfection. Mashed potatoes were delicious as well. Would love for them to pick an identity - their menu is a bit diverse and would probably benefit out of leaning in further to the "Modern Italian" style. Came here last night for a girls night dinner with some friends and it was great! The ambiance is very sleek and fun and reminded me a lot of a place you would find in Manhattan. We started with some dirty martinis which were good but would have been even better if they had blue cheese stuffed olives. For food we shared the crab hash brown, the gem salad, the stuffed gougeres, cavatelli, grilled cauliflower, and the burger. Everything was delicious but the cauliflower and cavatelli were standouts to me! The service was great too, but they were very hasty to clear our plates. Some of the plates they cleared when they still had a few bites left on them but we didn't really have a chance to say anything, and our cup of French fries was still half full when they took it away. read more

We were a group of three and ordered quite a few dishes from their menu. I'd say some items were better than others: - Hamachi Carpaccio: Tasty and super thin. The fish was stuck on the plate, so it felt just a bit odd to be scraping the fish off and trying to roll in the addons. You also couldn't tell when one piece ended and another one started so it was definitely a guessing game. - Leeks: Taste was fine. We are probably not leek people, so we'll leave it at that - Crab Hashbrown: This was interesting. The hashbrown was warm but the crab was ice-cold. The contrast threw us off a bit. I enjoyed the warm hashbrown and waited for the crab to warm up on the plate. Taste was fine for both as well. - Roasted Cauliflower: Ah this is a MUST! It was truly perfect! - Petite Steak: Delicious! Cooked to our perfection/liking and well seasoned. - Short Rib: Also a MUST!! Even if you can't finish it, bring it home. You will not regret this one. I heard the drinks were good but we are not big cocktail people. That said, the bar is the main part of the restaurant, and it is truly beautiful.
