I came here for lunch with a friend from Toronto on a Wednesday. We were the only table in the restaurant. The restaurant itself is super small with only 4 tables. Most of the orders or business at Fat Tuna Sushi are takeout. This makes sense when the restaurant is so small. So I got the sashimi combo for $17.95. It came with: - Miso soup - Salad - Crispy Crab rice - 8 pieces of sashimi according to the restaurant but I was only given 7 pieces (please see photo) - 3 pieces of tempura (1 piece shrimp, 1 piece yam and 1 piece cucumber) Overall the food was very delicious. I really enjoyed my meal. It was sad that the menu said I get 8 pieces of sashimi but I only got 7 pieces. At the end of the day, I was full. The restaurant is Korean ran. Presentation of the food was quite nice. All the ingredients were fresh. Prices are good. Market rate I would say. There are plenty of free parking at the restaurant. So this is definitely a plus. I would definitely come back for sure. Service was good. All Covid protocols are in place.

Small shop with a nice staff. I visited on a weekday, specifically on Monday at noon. I had heard about this place before visiting. Food: Lunch Roll Special $18.50, which included a choice of 2 rolls, edamame, miso soup, and 3 pieces of tempura (shrimp, yam, and cucumber). Overall, I would rate it 7.8/10. The set was strong and filling. I opted for the chopped scallop roll and the spicy salmon roll. The chopped scallop roll was okay, but what stood out to me the most in the spicy salmon roll was the salmon itself. The salmon was meaty, and I could taste its texture with every bite. It wasn't mashed up like in some other places. However, the seaweed in the roll was tough and tasted stale, which was the flaw of that particular roll. The tempura was served in a cute deep-frying basket, which I believe was used for plating purposes rather than actually frying the tempura.

Small cozy restaurant, could fit 4-5 parties. Personally I prefer smaller restaurants but if you're planning on bringing a big group this is not the place to go. The hostess/waitress was quick to seat us and was friendly the entire stay. My husband and I tried the tempura vegetables, Teriyaki Beef bowl, and the fat tuna wrap. All were pretty great! Tempura vegetables - loved the presentation of this dish. It just brought it to a new level. And who doesn't enjoy massive vegetables haha Teriyaki Beef bowl - the serving size was very generous for this one! This is definitely for 2 people. The flavor was great but for some could potentially be on the saltier side but that's the whole point of getting teriyaki Fat tuna wrap - a great lunch entree! A light and refreshing wrap without any heavy dressings. I'd highly recommend this place !

Ordered takeout from here. We had the dinner combo A, spicy salmon sashimi, negitoro roll and some nigiris. I think the dinner combo is a good deal and there are some interesting combos (not just a bento with a california roll). Combo A comes with 14 pieces of sashimi, 2 prawn tempura, 2 veggie tempura, and a crispy crab rice. Enough for 2 people to be full. The nigiris were awesome - big portions and fresh. Toro is legit, tamago is thick and sweet, unagi is thick slices. Read my full review and more pics on my blog: https://sincerelyloewe.com/fat-tuna-sushi-takeout-in-coquitlam/

Sushi runs the gamut. From, "I would gladly submit to death by mercury poisoning for this sushi" to "Oh dear, the fish is paper thin and food-court quality". Fat Tuna is consistently more on the first end of the spectrum. I have never eaten in, only had it delivered. Now, I never walked to school barefoot and in the snow...but, I certainly remember the days when sushi was not available for delivery. We've come a long way Baby! The toro is buttery, the agedashi tofu is molten (the spicy is not very spicy), the garnishes are crisp... The custom rolls are clever and tasty. My choosy cat sampled the sashimi this round, and the licking of her lips declared it 'purr-worthy'. Prices are reasonable and portions generous.

The sushi was incredibly fresh, expertly prepared, and bursting with flavors. The staff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, making my dining experience truly outstanding. Highly recommended!

We don't find ourselves out in Coquitlam very much so I'm not really sure how we managed to wind up at Fat Tuna other than the fact that the name sounded interesting. Fat Tuna is located in a mini mall on Brunette and Lougheed Hwy and it's not something that you would really notice by driving by. We showed up for lunch on a weekend in November and it wasn't very busy but the restaurant itself is a bit small. We wound up ordering from their Fat Tuna Lunch Special menu which includes miso soup, 3 pieces of thick-cut veggie tempura, and 1 piece of prawn tempura. The Assorted Sashimi Lunch Special ($16) came with 2 pieces of tuna, 2 pieces of salmon, 1 piece of seared scallop, 1 piece of sockeye salmon, 1 piece of big eye tuna, and 1 piece of hamachi. Overall, I liked the variety of sashimi as many places only offer regular tuna and farmed salmon. The assorted sashimi also came with a bowl of Crispy Crab Rice. I was actually surprised at how satisfying this dish was with the contrasting textures of the crispy bits and the creaminess of the spicy mayo sauce mixed with the crab and rice. The Black Cod Teriyaki Lunch Special ($13.50) sat on a bed of cabbage, onions, zucchini, carrots, and broccoli but was a bit too saucy for my liking. One of the misses here, in my opinion, was the Beef Tataki ($10). Perhaps it's because I always think of tataki being thinner cut. The thick-cut beef tenderloin that they use here is seared and served with mixed greens, dry garlic, and a wasabi mayo sauce. Last up to the table was their House Roll ($7.75) made with tuna, salmon, seared salmon, cucumber, avocado, imitation crab and tobiko. As expected with a house roll, the roll itself was fairly large. Overall, there were some hits and misses here but I really enjoyed the crispy crab rice and the sashimi.

Great for takeout! Ordered through DoorDash and the food was amazing. Had the salmon aburi and it was very flavourful. I definitely recommend checking them out.

Decided to get delivery from Fat Tuna through Skip the Dishes. The presentation upon arrival of my sushi was great! I ordered the chicken teriyaki roll, spicy salmon roll and salmon roll. The chicken teriyaki roll was all fried batter with little to no chicken; I definitely would not order it again. The spicy salmon roll was the salmon roll with mayo and Sriracha on top. The salmon in the spicy salmon roll were long strips and very chewy; I definitely would not order it again. The salmon roll was the best of them all even though it was the most plain roll. The salmon in this roll was better; not as chewy or dark in color as the spicy salmon roll. The quality was definitely not the greatest in any of the rolls. Unfortunately I don't think I'll return.

Love to discover new sushi restaurants around the neighborhood. Fat Tuna is one that my husbabd and I recently discovered in the burquitlam area. We tried their dinner combo A and the Fat Tuna Tempura. The dinner combo was a great deal for $24 there was a platter of 12 assorted sashimi that were thick and fresh, bowl of rice with imitation crab, miso soup and tempura. While the Fat Tuna Tempura had a generous portion of your regular tempura along with 2 pieces lobster tempura and 2 pieces of tuna tempura - it was neat to try but I would probably not order again because I find the lobster tempura a bit small and didn't taste as great as I was anticipating it to be! Overall a great experience and would come here again to try out their rolls next time!

Good sushi at an okay price. The biggest problem with this restaurant is the extremely limited seating space.

The donburi looked good with sufficient portion for a strong man. It was tasty, however as I kept eating the soy chicken karaage got more and more salty. Finally I couldn't have anymore. I finished the rice and it was well cooked. I drank two cups of tea after having the donburi. I didn't try other dishes, perhaps I will give them a try when I come here next time. I do hope the chef could make it less salty. Apart from that, service was fine and the ambient was quiet and tidy.

sometimes the best dinners are the ones you don't plan…read more our party of five ended up at mika sushi on a saturday for an impromptu dinner and a chance to catch up. the restaurant was lively without feeling chaotic, with a bright, modern dining room, high ceilings, warm wood finishes, comfortable booths, and an open sushi bar where you can catch glimpses of the chefs at work. it felt casual, welcoming, and easy to settle into for a relaxed evening. the hardest part wasn't finding a table...it was deciding what to order. the menu is extensive, with pictures of a variety of sushi, sashimi, specialty rolls, bentos, noodles, donburi, and plenty of vegan friendly options. i spent far longer than i'd like to admit staring at the menu before finally ordering the "my favourite combo." for $24.95, you get to choose four items, which turned out to be a great value. i went with the tuna sashimi, salmon sashimi, dynamite roll, and a negitoro cone. my order initially came out with negitoro maki instead of the cone, but it was quickly corrected with an apology, which i appreciated. everything arrived looking fresh and nicely presented. the tuna and salmon sashimi were thickly sliced, buttery, and fresh, exactly what i was hoping for. the negitoro cone was generously filled with chopped tuna and green onions, and the nori still had a nice crisp snap to it. the dynamite roll was probably my least favourite of the four. i was surprised to find a slightly soggy piece of yam tempura tucked in with the prawn tempura, crab, and avocado. i'm not sure if that's normally part of the roll or if it was added by mistake, but it wasn't something i was expecting from a dynamite roll. i also would have liked the prawn tempura to be crispier. it was missing that satisfying crunch you'd normally expect from a dynamite roll. it wasn't a deal breaker, and i didn't mention it to our server, but it just wasn't the standout dish for me. one thing i appreciated was that the portions were generous without being over the top. i left feeling comfortably full and never once questioned whether the combo was worth the price. with such a large menu, there's something for just about everyone, including plenty of vegan friendly options, making it an easy place to bring a group with different tastes. unlike some japanese restaurants where everyone shares dishes, mika sushi feels more like a place where each person orders exactly what they're craving. between the fresh sashimi, generous portions, reasonable prices, and relaxed atmosphere, mika sushi delivered exactly what we were looking for that evening. was every bite perfect? not quite. but the food was fresh, the value was excellent, and spending a few hours catching up with family made it a night well spent. sometimes the best dinners really are the ones you don't plan.
